1* TechnologyMarchesOn: While widely considered to be one of Gordon Korman's funniest works ever, the basic plot wouldn't work in the Internet Age. A mildly tech-savvy teacher could have uncovered the truth about the real Gavin Gunhold within minutes and it would be virtually impossible for Sean to keep his grandfather's double life as Gavin Gunhold a secret from his parents.
2** Sean's parents are tech-obsessed, and are extremely proud of their high-tech laser pointer, which...shines a dot into a bookcase. Just a few years later, laser pointers would become so cheap and common they'd be considered children's toys and tourist tat.
3* ValuesResonance:
4** The ending of the book was resonant at the time, and probably feels even more so today. [[spoiler:Sean's parents see the spectacular failure of "the windmill" and decide to cut back on their tech habits. These days, a lot of the people who read the book as kids could look at their own kids with noses buried in their phones and go "Huh."]]
