* AndYouThoughtItWouldFail: Many people had their doubts about the film's chances, but while it was no critical darling and never set the box office on fire, it also proved to have remarkable staying power, remaining in the top five for months.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: As usual, the catchy theme song, which the film admittedly does a faithful remaster of.
* CriticalDissonance: Holds a 45% "Rotten" critical score on Website/RottenTomatoes, but a far higher (69%) audience score.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Any fan of [[Series/TheAddamsFamily the original sitcom]] could spot [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/addamsfamily/images/7/72/Ophelia_Frump_2019.png/revision/latest?cb=20200124053922 Ophelia Frump]] from the crowd and wanted to see more of her.
* LesYay: Both Wednesday and Parker become utterly ''fascinated'' with one another as they spend more time together, and many of their interactions are easy to read as budding attraction.
* MagnificentBastard: Wednesday Addams, reimagined here as a MadScientist, retains her [[TheStoic stoic]] charm and quick thinking. Repeatedly coming up with creative ways to kill her brother and wanting to make her own way in the world, Wednesday starts public school, where she revives a bunch of dead frogs to cause a school-wide panic and humiliate an AlphaBitch. Befriending Parker and eventually imprisoned while Margaux tries to kill her family, Wednesday uses Parker's hairpin to escape and rescues her family, while having Parker film Margaux's freak-out and costing Margaux her show. When Gomez forces her to go on a family trip and enter a pageant, Wednesday uses a bunch of red paint to ruin it. She captures Mr. Mustela, who has been following her family, before dropping him to his death. Being led to believe that Cyrus Strange is actually her father, Wednesday uses Lurch's musical talents to convince a group of bikers to take them to Sausalito and later saves her family from Strange, before using her quick thinking to turn the mutated Uncle Fester back to normal.
* MoralEventHorizon: InUniverse, it's bad enough that Margaux insists on "helping" people against their will and forcing everyone to conform to her standards, but [[spoiler:what finally turns the whole town against her is the revelation that she planted cameras in everyone's homes to spy on them, ''including while they're on the toilet''. When this is revealed in the climax, even the townspeople who supported her conformist ideals think that's going way too far.]]
* OlderThanTheyThink:
** This isn't the first ''Addams Family'' movie to incorporate modern music in its soundtrack. The first two live action movies have rap songs (which Cousin Itt--voiced here by Music/SnoopDogg--also had a taste for) and the third has an ''a cappella'' R&B-style cover of the TV series' theme song.
** The fan-disliked "ugly" version of the family is actually a reversion to a style that recalls [[ComicStrip/TheAddamsFamily the source material.]] Unfortunately, some fans believe the stylization went too far.
* QuestionableCasting::
** While the acting casting choices of the titular family were very well received, some fans felt that the actors [[note]]Particularly Creator/OscarIsaac and Creator/CharlizeTheron as Gomez and Morticia, respectively[[/note]] would have been dead ringers to play the characters in a live action version, rather than just doing the voices for an animated film.
** Cousin Itt is voiced by, of all the CelebrityVoiceActor options... ''Music/SnoopDogg''? Even with Itt's [[TheUnintelligible method of speaking]] It's kinda difficult to not tell that it's him with getting billing in the opening and Itt's entrance to the gathering by gaudy limousine with "Drop It Like It's Hot" blaring out, dressed exactly as how Snoop Dogg would dress most days. [[note]] Though this is a MythologyGag to the [=90s=] film which at the time had a song by the then popular Music/MCHammer who made a music video for the the first movie and whose song is heard playing when Itt comes to the family reunion in that film. [[AdvertisedExtra He barely even appears, anyway.]][[/note]]
* SoOkayItsAverage: The general consensus is that, while the voice cast is great and [[JustHereForGodzilla it's always fun to see The Addams do their thing]], the plot is weak and [[LighterAndSofter too lighthearted compared to other Addams adaptations]].
* TheScrappy: The film's BigBad Margaux Needler is disliked for no other reason than being a KarmaHoudini despite having committed very serious offenses that are worthy of jail time.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The AdaptationalAngstUpgrade the family receives in regards to their creepy nature, and changes such as Mortica being more closed off and reluctant to interact with outsiders has received this response from many fans, who felt the changes miss the point of the Addams Family and why they're humorous.
* UnintentionalUncannyValley: While the designs of the established characters are adapted very faithfully from the source material, this more exaggerated art style doesn't translate as well to the film's [[CanonForeigner original human characters]]. This is particularly egregious with Wednesday's friend Parker, who has huge lips, no chin, cylinder nose and a body like a toothpick, which makes her [[{{Irony}} by far the more weird-looking of the two]].
