6	In a poor, Southern black town, as many of its residents get dressed for church (or "[[TitleDrop Sunday go to meetin' time]]"), a lazy black man named Nicodemus would rather spend his Sunday shooting craps. When his wife catches him trying to skip church, Nicodemus runs off and tries to club a chicken... until he gets hit by a fence post and gets sent to Hell where the Devil himself goes over all of Nicodemus' sins.

8	The outdated African-American stereotypes have put it on the infamous WesternAnimation/CensoredEleven list. It is easily available online, even though it's never been released on home media or streaming (and probably never will be, due to being on the aforementioned list).

13	* EarAche: Nicodemus’ wife at one point drags him by the ear to the church building while scolding him for attempting to miss out on it.

The judge then says [[AndThatsTerrible “That’s bad!”]], and sends him down to Hell.

18	* PinballGag: When being sent down the pits of Hell, Nicodemus lands in front of a puller in a giant pinball machine game. A giant, demonic hand then pulls on the puller to send him banging around the game like a pinball.

20	* TitleDrop: The cartoon opens with a preacher and a minstrel show dandy singing the song for which the short is named.
21	* TrapDoor: When Nicodemus is deemed to be a sinner by the devil, he gets sent down to Hell by one.
