->''"EVERY EXTREME IS ON THE SAME TEAM"''
-->-- ''From the song of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hc8m_5tBxYM same name.]]''

The ''[[https://www.youtube.com/user/flavacrava jREG]]'' [=YouTube=] channel is operated by Greg Guevara, who is a satirist, artist, Ottawan mayoral candidate and content creator who makes sketch comedy and music videos. The satire is often political, focusing specifically on extreme and obscure political ideologies.

''Jreg'' blew up upon the release of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mPazYL5Nks "Political Compass Rap"]], which led to the invention of the satirical ideology Anti-Centrism, which advocates for political extremists of all kinds joining forces to kill all centrists and political moderates. This concept has been turned into a full-on webseries called ''Centricide'', in which a Nazi, an authoritarian communist, an anarcho-communist and an anarcho-capitalist are assembled by Jreg to fight a league of centrists and moderates.

Many of jris videos are oversimplified parodies of political science that try and explain various ideologies through visual compasses and memes. Thanks to PoesLaw, some people have mistaken the videos as genuinely advocating for the political ideologies that the videos make fun of.

Jre's also a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTgoSa7nzjo&list=PLGALsgF3LJjxyENrze17HHLCYUx1sDhLS musician]] with a couple of originals, parodies, and web series-specific songs under jris belt. Both jris main web series, ''Centricide'' and ''The Mental Illnesses'', feature musical numbers.

In 2021, jre [[MeaningfulRename rebranded jremself]] as ''[=JrEg=]''[[note]]Pronounced "Junior Egg"[[/note]], marking the beginning of the second [=JrEra=] and the move away from political content. After the conclusion of ''Centricide'', ''[=JrEg=]'' began a new series about personified mental illnesses appropriately titled ''The Mental Illnesses''. In January 2022, Jreg publicly came out in a video titled “Gender Tier List”. Jre had came out to jris livestream audience a month prior when the Gender Tier List livestream was recorded. Jre uses jre/jrem/jres (also spelt “jris”) neopronouns.

In August 2022, jre renamed the channel again to Gregory "Jreg" Guevara and announced jre's independent mayoral run for Ottawa, promising to build a giant wall around the perimeter of the city and then make it an independent state among numerous other positions that can be seen [[http://greg.guevara.angelfire.com/ here]]. Jre have denied claims of running a "joke campaign" and has promised to actually intend to implement the policies if jre are elected. Jre are taking donations of up to $1,200 from private individuals living within the city.

In November 2022, jre once again rebranded into a [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial totally normal, non-mentally ill, non-politically extreme channel]], this time called "[=jREG=]", short for "J-Regular". Despite this, jre has occasionally continued to post suspiciously irregular videos on jris channel which deal with frameworks, identity, and sparsely, politics.

'''Note''': This page refers to both Jreg the ''Centricide'' character and Jreg the [=YouTuber=]. This page assumes the character goes by he/him while the [=YouTuber=] goes by jre/jrem.
----
!!''Jreg'' videos contain examples of:
[[foldercontrol]]
[[folder:General ''Jreg'' Tropes]]
* TenMinuteRetirement: On July 22, 2020 Jreg uploaded a video [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzPGtRF5fTs "I'm Quitting YouTube"]] and cited reasons like stress from being a public figure, problems with family and friends, and lacking motivation, saying that it won't be like others where jre'll return in an hour or so. Exactly an hour later, jre uploaded [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Vg9SIsSTnM "I'm Returning To YouTube"]].
* AmbiguousGenderIdentity: While whether jris gender is a subject of {{Kayfabe}} or not is up for debate, Jreg has deliberately added fuel to the fire with "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyR5BLqtx8E I'm Trans]]", in which jre claims to be [[spoiler:"male-to-Male" or "mtM" transgender, as in a male who becomes extremely male through the use of steroids to accumulate muscle]]. Is this video a joke or not? Even with the obvious satirical edge, no one can say for sure.
* AndIMustScream: In "Negative Politics", by the Eight Circle, political dissidents are given robot bodies that are impervious to lava but can still feel pain, and are then dropped into lava for all eternity.
* AnarchyIsChaos: What Nazi says will happen throughout "Anarchist Uprising", expecting the anarchist society to crash and burn.
* AnthropomorphicPersonification:
** The ''Centricide'' characters are personifications of political ideologies. Other political ideologies, including made-up ones like communo-capitalism/capcom[[note]]a compromise between communism and capitalism where they occasionally EatTheRich[[/note]] show up in other videos.
** The ''Mental Illnesses'' characters are personifications of mental illnesses, mental disorders, trauma disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, and possibly more. The Neurotypicals are personifications of how non-mentally ill people treat those who are mentally ill.
* BadBadActing: In "The Election of 2024" which parodies a movie trailer.
* BecomingTheMask: In jris video [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsuSveDAlpI "Post-Irony, Meta-Irony, and Post-Truth Satire,"]] Jreg brings up a hypothetical case of someone initially pretending to be homeless ironically, finding themselves enjoying the lifestyle, and starting to live on the streets because of it as an example of post-irony.
* BlackAndWhiteInsanity: [[https://youtu.be/4JqarVypv9M "Modern-Day Political Satire"]] [[ShowWithinAShow parodies a TV satire]] that portrays President Trump saying blatantly stupid things, after which "The Script Writer's Preferred Candidate" arrives to [[spoiler:shoot him with a gun]], subsequently declaring that Trump's ideals have died with him. The viewer appears to take this all in stride[[spoiler:, but then he actually prepares to shoot himself]].
* BlatantLies: In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz9m_kYE_cc Addressing Allegations That I Have Ties To The Far Right]], Jreg strongly denies having far right ties- while wearing a Nazi uniform and using the War Ensign of Germany as a background.
* BreadMilkEggsSquick:
** “5 [=WaCkY=] Ways The World Could End!” lists implausible apocalyptic scenarios. That is, except for number two, when [[SuddenSoundtrackStop the music stops]] and Jreg gives a speech about how humanity needs to deal with climate change before it’s too late.
** In Jreg's song "Ottawa!":
-->''Ottawa! Ottawa! Justin Trudeau!\
Ottawa! Ottawa! The Parliament buildings!\
Ottawa! Ottawa! The canal!\
Ottawa! Ottawa! Ottawa! Unceded Algonquin land!''
** In "Incelclopedia", Ian Celibate describes Involuntary Celibates(Incels) who want to have sex but cannot, Voluntary Incelibates(Sexhavers) who want to and do have sex, Voluntary Celibates(Volcels) who choose not to have sex, and Involuntary Incelibates, who are-*[[ImpliedRape Ian stops and looks very concerned for a moment before a transition cuts him off]]*
* ButtMonkey: When they collab, fellow Canadian Political Youtuber J.J. [=McCullough=] often plays this role, who as a moderate conservative is often mocked and (jokingly) abused for being the type of centrist that [=JrEg=] despises.
* CastOfPersonifications: Most of the videos involve one or more [[AnthropomorphicPersonification personification]] of a political ideology, especially the Centricide series.
* CuttingTheKnot: Jreg’s solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict is to [[NukeEm nuke the Middle East]].
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The video "A Hugh Conspiracy" posits the existence of a worldwide conspiracy headed by people named Hugh that wields power behind the scenes in a manner deliberately similar to far-right anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
* DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans: In "Negative Politics" Jreg designs a society meant to maximize human suffering.
* EasyEvangelism: In the "Anarchist Uprising" video, The East (a character embodying non-western society who is planning to invade the communes that have taken over America) is [[spoiler: instantly convinced to embrace anarcho-communism by one of the Ancoms asking if everyone could just get along and joins quem in chanting "Hail Anarchy!" at the end of the video.]]
* EatTheRich: Often mentioned by the leftist extremists.
** One video posits a compromise between [[PrivatelyOwnedSociety anarcho-capitalism]] and [[DirtyCommunists communism]] where the political system is structured like the former, but at the end of every year the top 1% are executed and their wealth redistributed.
* EqualOpportunityOffender: Jokes are made at the expense of all the many ideologies portrayed.
* FateWorseThanDeath: In "Negative Politics" by the Eighth Circle, people get trapped in a VR world and are forced to repeat their worst experience over and over for millennia.
* GoodCapitalismEvilCapitalism: Minarchist brags about treating his trade partners like family and is heavily implied to have considerable sympathy for the less fortunate. In contrast, Ancap is extremely cutthroat in his business practices and blatantly exploits his workers.
* GrandTheftMe: "A Neo-Nazi With They/Them Pronouns" is subject to this with his other four personalities (a nonbinary person, a demon who repeatedly says "I AM LEGION," self-declared 'Wacky Frank' and a regular dude).
* HypocriticalHumor:
** A t-shirt that says “Fast fashion is destroying the planet” with the crossed-out image of a t-shirt on it.
--->Authoritarian Right: It boils my blood when I hear someone call me something that I’m not.
--->Interviewer: So then would you call someone by their preferred pronouns?
--->Authoritarian Right: [[LiterallyLaughableQuestion Ahahaha!]]
** [[https://youtu.be/qz_272Wsey8 "lefttube"]] portrays a left-wing [=YouTuber=] "humbly" asking for support on Patreon to "defeat capitalism", until funding grows to a ludicrous degree. [[spoiler:In the end, they are making $21,163 a month and have converted to Libertarianism.]]
** In the video [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTA0yTrUA0Y "Political Ideology Tier List,"]] Jreg ridicules the idea of an ideology whose only trait is being against something, despite the fact that jris ideology is Anti-Centrism, an ideology whose main trait is opposing centrism.
---> '''Jreg:''' I mean, can you imagine making an ideology that's nothing but against something? Anyway, let's continue with this Anti-Centrist tier list.
* InAWorld: Is said in "The Election of 2024" which is a parody of a movie trailer. "In a dystopian future ruled by centrists..."
* InTheFutureHumansWillBeOneRace: Jris "Race Accelerationism" video.
* ImportantHaircut: At the beginning of jris "jREGULAR" jrera, jre cuts jris messy unkempt afro from jris mentally ill days and shaves jris scraggly beard and moustache, signifying jris becoming "regular" and jrim no longer being mentally ill or politically extreme.
* {{Kayfabe}}:
** It is impossible to verify whether or not Jreg is an legitimately extremely mentally ill person with a dispassionate outlook on society who attempts to fill the void in jris head where a framework should belong with noise or if jre is just doing some kind of gigantic act as a way of expressing jris thoughts.
** You may have noticed the use of "Jre/Jrim" neopronouns to describe Jreg the human being on this and the related pages; that's because it's [[AmbiguousGenderIdentity also unverifiable what jris gender identity is]], given that jre's said contradictory things about it in the past and has made multiple "schizopolitical" videos that examine the intersectionality between politics, mental illness and gender that have jrim [[TrollingCreator claiming to be every gender simultaneously and therefore none of them]]. It could potentially be an act with Jreg still being a cis male underneath it, but it could also be the closest thing we'll ever get to the truth about the subject.%%[[Invoked]]
* LiteralMinded: In the video "A Neo-Nazi With They/Them Pronouns," the titular character has they/them pronouns not because they reject the gender binary, but because they have five entities possessing their body.
* MantisMatingMeal: In "Inventing New Sexualities", jre describes how "Mantisexuals" consume their partners' heads after having sex.
-->'''jREG:''' Fellas, tell me how many times that's happened to you, [[MetaphoricallyTrue spiritually or otherwise]].
* MediaScaremongering: In "Do NOT See Joker!!!!", Liberal Media warns the viewer of the movie ''Film/Joker2019'', saying it glorifies violence. He predicts that an incel will shoot up a theater because of it. When weeks pass and ''Joker'' becomes a box office success, [[spoiler:Liberal Media decides to put on a clown wig, grab a gun, and take matters into his own hands.]]
* MidwordRhyme: "If the world was ending I would go to Mars", a parody of "If the World Was Ending" by JP Saxe:
--->[Greg, '''Liam''':]\
''If the world was ending I would grow a farm\
I’d be like Creator/MattDamon from [[Film/TheMartian the Mar...]]'' ('''[[Film/TheMartian -tian?]]''')
* MindScrew:
** Jris channel intro video is this combined with TrollingCreator, featuring jremself constantly contradicting and interrupting jremself and ends with jrem curled into a TroubledFetalPosition and swirling on screen with the extremists at the corners of the video a fire consumes the background.
** The ''Schizopolitics'' videos feature Jreg speaking into a microphone for an extended period of time. The videos contain themes of frameworks, politics, and schizophrenia explained in a mind-boggling, surreal manner. Little explanation is given by Jreg as to what's the purpose or meaning of these videos.
* [[MrFanservice Mx. Fanservice]]: Parodied in multiple videos where jre disparages people for making pornography and then proceeds to [[spoiler: strip down to jris underwear and showing off jris 8-pack abs.]]
* MultipleChoicePast: One of the examples of Jreg being a TrollingCreator was jrem uploading a series of videos outlining jris unironic political beliefs and how they influenced jris satire-the issue being each video differs on what jris views are (centrist, progressive, libertarian, identitarian, Marxist-Leninist or unironic anti-centrist) as well as details of jris personal background (for instance, the Marxist video has jrem claim to be a distant relative of Che Guevara, the identitarian one has jrem claim jre is of a mixed European background and the progressive one has jrem claim to be of Jewish descent) and motivation for making jris content (some of the videos have jrem DoingItForTheArt, but the libertarian one has jrem claim jre's OnlyInItForTheMoney and each one has jrem claim that ideological standpoint informs jris takes).
** Jris other channel averts this, and it's clear jre had a conservative background years ago, but it's never revealed if that past is indicative of jrem today.
** Centricide 6 shows what seems to be jris actual DNA results, and jre's 50% Jewish and 50% Basque (A Spanish-French ethnicity). While said genetic chart was actually for [[spoiler: Nazi, who is initially horrified but decides to become a Jewish fascist instead,]] It's most likely Jreg's actual results.
* NotMeThisTime: In "Illuminati postpones world domination due to pandemic", a spokesperson for TheIlluminati explains that, while they are trying to bring the entire human race under their rule, they had nothing to do with the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. In fact, it forced them to delay their plans due to multiple key operatives of theirs being sickened by it.
* PoesLaw: Be careful while watching jris videos. You will definitely run into this all the time while watching jris videos. Remember that jre's a satirist.
* PoliticalRap: “Every Extreme Is On the Same Team”
** Before that, "The Political Compass Rap" was the video that introduced the earliest iterations of the extremists.
* {{Postmodernism}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fav-SS0L78Q Parodied or even mocked]] as an entity that aimlessly kills the personification of God, Community and Truth, leaving Modernism upset without any purpose. Realizing that all he can do is destroy without actually giving people a foundation to be happy and find meaning, he [[SuicideAsComedy simply offs himself]] which forces Modernism to become Post-Postmodernism to gain any semblance of sense.
* RiddleForTheAges:
** What ''are'' Jreg's actual political views? Jre plays this as the biggest RunningGag in jris channel especially when jre released a 6 contradictory videos that while framed as sincere, were about jrem being a centrist, anti-centrist, Marxist, Identitarian Nationalist, Progressive and Libertarian at the same time. Jris other channel, however, notes that jre had a conservative background years ago with Christian groups that may or may not reflect what jre believes today.
*** In "Mistakes I Made While Making My Webseries", a relatively unironic video where Jreg reflects on the process of creating ''Centricide'', jre says that jre'll release jris real political views once jre reaches 400k subscribers. When jre reached that goal, jre released a 9-second video proclaiming to be a social democrat with no elaboration. Ensue [[https://twitter.com/mc_swm/status/1490422443428745216 multiple]] [[https://twitter.com/mc_swm/status/1491572961932886022 tweets]] [[https://twitter.com/mc_swm/status/1487184804021866496 by Jreg]] claiming how much jre "loves" social democracy, along with putting a sock emoji in jris Twitter display name. It's still unclear if jre's actually a social democrat and this is an example of post-irony, or if jre is joking about the popular assumption that jre is a moderate leftist.
** Being the SpiritualSuccessor of the political views question: what ''are'' Jreg's actual mental illnesses? A question prevailing many times since ''The Mental Illnesses'''s inception. The only one Jreg's confirmed is depression. For a long while, it's been a running joke that Jreg's schizophrenic. Jre mentions it jokingly in many videos. Same with ADHD, Schizotypal Personality Disorder, and BPD, the latter of which jre claims to be diagnosed with in jris channel's trailer video (the seriousness of which is debatable). People wonder which disorders Jreg is writing from a personal point of view, but it's unlikely jre'll reveal them. The [=JrEg=]/Junior Egg character in ''The Mental Illnesses'' claims to have ''every'' mental illness.
* RageBreakingPoint: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX6FrN6hXHc&t=139s I'm Gonna Snap!]]" is a song all about this, though it degenerates near the end into Jreg beating the shit out of jris colleague, who is [[LiteralMetaphor dressed as a camel]].
* RunningGag: Jris hatred of the "Centrists". Expect jrem to immediately rate anthing centrist in nature an absolute bottom tier in any tier list video jre makes.
* SelfDeprecation: Jreg is not averse to taking potshots at jris own content, jris status as a [=YouTuber=] or jris own political leanings (wherever they may fall Jreg has made fun of them).
** Reaches its apex in Centricide 6 where both Jreg (the anti-centrist character) and Radical Centrist accuse Greg (the [=YouTuber=] hosting Jreg in-universe) of being a narcissistic self-promoter.
* SitcomArchNemesis: {{JReg Gaming}} (a completely unrelated gaming Youtube channel that happens to have a similar name) is jokingly portrayed as a rival.
* ShownTheirWork: Behind all the silliness, Jreg clearly knows quite a bit about a number of political philosophies, even fringe ones like [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_International_Posadist Posadism]] or [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National-anarchism National anarchism (though jre refers to it as anarcho-fascism)]]. Several of the videos jre makes involve discussing these fringe ideologies in depth in ways that, while PlayedForLaughs, are largely accurate.
* StylisticSuck:
** The fact that ''Centricide'' is made by one person in an apartment with a crappy green screen only makes the comedy better.
-->'''Jreg: (in the description of "Centricide 1")''' [[TheyCalledMeMad They told me I could never make a series in my room all by myself.]] They were absolutely right and it was a mistake.
** The main character design for ''The Mental Illnesses'' are the characters wearing giant posterboards on their heads with their names.
* TakeThat: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFMaX6ZS_vU The Worst Possible Political System || Hell || Negative Politics]]" was designed as a way for Jreg to come up with the most unbearable political system that maximizes the suffering of those in it without collapsing the society that practices it entirely... only by the end that jre realizes that jre is basically describing [[spoiler: modern Neoliberalism]].
** In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6u1Cgw4v5Q&t=0s A Message From America's Future]], future Jreg warns jris past self not to wreck America by voting for the 'old, senile, decrepit pedophile' in the 2020 presidential election. Present Jreg fails to act on this advice because when jre considers each point jre determines [[EvilVersusEvil they apply to both candidates]].
** Jris [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dptwqG_qqAI appearance on]] [[PropagandaMachine Russia Today]] was mostly Jreg doing jris usual Anti-Centrism bit, but Jre also made some brutal digs by way of [[SarcasmMode sarcasm]]:
*** When the hosts discuss how Trump supposedly wins even when he loses:
--->"Meanwhile Biden only wins if he wins, which is a bad strategy."
*** When discussing anarchism, and jre calls out the fact that they [[ManipulativeEditing removed the part attacking Russia]]:
--->"...if people start off as anarchists and end up uh disliking you know liberal democracy because its uh devolved into a corrupt oligarchy that only benefits the wealthy unlike a good country like Russia..."
* TakeThatCritics: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6m9hptgroI ''Removing Problematic Centricide Characters'']] has Jreg responding to the controversy of playing "offensive" characters like Nazbol by removing them, which means that Centricide ends early with Queer Anarchism being the only one left who proceeds to bore Jreg by reading queer feminist theory.
* TechBro: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gfpn-BLMbjc&pp=wgIGCgQQAhgB Somewhere In Silicon Valley]] satirizes these, portraying them as a bunch of drug-addled psychopaths who are constantly coming up with nonsensical ideas like "Uber for bongs", "Web 7.0", and "An app that fucks you in the ass" and then all collectively [[YesMan hyping each other's terrible drug-induced pitches up]].
* TerriblePickUpLines: In "[[TestosteronePoisoning How To Be An Alpha Chad That Slays Mad Poon]]", said "Alpha Chad"'s idea of a pickup line is this embarrasment:
-->'''Jreg:''' ...I demand SEX!...''Please! Pleeease, give it to meeee!'' MMM, FEMOID! RAWR--!
* TickTockTune: In the song "I Watch My [=YouTube=] Videos At 2x Speed". The ticking is continuous throughout the song, but it becomes more prominent in the latter half as the song speeds up.
* VillainBall: Defied in "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWoYScyO-oA Illuminati postpones world domination due to pandemic]]" in which the Illuminati, who'd been planning a global takeover for centuries, asks why they would randomly start a coronavirus outbreak while they'd been working for decades on their 5G surveillance/mind control system.
* WarHawk: In "Accelerate"
-->''Class war now! Race war now! Honestly, I just want a fucking war.''
* WarIsGlorious: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si7dl6BU78E I Want To Die In A War]] offers a look as to why young men would want to enlist and die in combat despite the advent of WarIsHell tropes. Namely that many of these young men are so disconnected from society that war offers them a chance to die for a cause as part of a collective team of like-minded people. That, and it offers their DeathSeeker lives a chance to have an impactful death to escape the harsh realities of the modern world since many still aren't willing to kill themselves or fear dying for nothing.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Tropes present in ''Centricide'']]
* AntiVillain: It goes without saying that the Extremists are of the WellIntentionedExtremist variety type because despite being genocidal or willing to resort to violence really quickly, they do want what's best for a select group of people and are genuine in their beliefs (Except arguably [[TokenEvilTeammate Nazi]]). Ancap skirts the line more into NobleDemon in Centricide 4 [[spoiler: due to acknowledging that his unrestrained capitalist beliefs can kill millions like the authoritarians, but refuses to engage in any further purges or aggressive behaviour outside of his domain.]]
* ArcNumber: 4. 4 quadrants of the political compass, a 4 sided shape. 4 colours are used to [[ColourCodedForYourConvenience colour-code]] the characters (red, yellow, green and blue. Black and gray are ''not'' colours). 4 Extremists representing the 4 corners of the political compass. 4 Moderates representing the 4 corners of the Overton window, also a 4 sided shape. 4 ideologies inhabiting Ancapistan (Ancap, Libertarian, Minarchist, and Hoppean). 4 letters in Greg, Jreg, and Nazi. Jreg is possessed by the ghosts of 4 notable extremists, each representing a different quadrant. 4 ideologies in Centricide 4.5 wear a nice hat (Nazi, Tankie, Ancap and Libertarian).
* ArtificialLimbs: Robot arms are portrayed as the goal of [[{{Transhumanism}} transhumanists]].
* [[AsHimself As Jremself]]:
** In-universe, Jreg is Greg Guevara with 4 spirits possessing jrem. Jre formally debuts in ''Centricide'' in episode 6, "Identity".
-->'''Greg Guevara''': Hi, Greg Guevara here. I started off by playing Jreg as a character [[BecomingTheMask but I can no longer differentiate where [jre] ends and I begin]]. Soon, Anti-Centrism will be my entire artistic identity. I'll stop making songs and poems and I'll just become an ideolog. Won't that be fun?
** This reaches its apex in Centricide 7 "Greg Guevara", where Radical Centrist tears apart the fabric of reality to speak to Greg Guevara the content creator.
* BittersweetEnding: Centricide 8 ends with [[spoiler: Accelerationism and the centrists all dead]] though quite a few had to perish on the way. The Extremists [[spoiler: also decide to get along and ''not'' fight as the world is their own to control, though by the band getting back together they've restored their status quo in episode 1, much to their shock.]]
* BlackAndGreyMorality: Oscillates between this and EvilVersusEvil. Every ideology is deliberately portrayed as either unhinged, lazy or bizarre with their only saving grace being a few good points they raise to show why people follow their ideology.
* BlackDudeDiesFirst: When the Impossible Ideology Monsters attack, Pan Africanism is its first victim. Homofascism [[LampshadeHanging feels like he should've seen that coming]].
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Ancap is the most prone to this since his end goal is money no matter what, but in general the ideologies are either eccentric strawmen or so unhinged that your personal views are the only thing bound to determine who is right. Likely invoked on purpose in order to keep with the satirical spirit of the show.
** All said and done, Nazi and Commie [[VillainHasAPoint take Ancap's morality to task]] in the 4th Centricide when they note that despite him not being politically violent, he still advocates for an ideology that kills millions due to the shitty conditions unrestrained capitalism causes. This causes Ancap to have a bit of introspection.
* BombThrowingAnarchists: Anarchist Left.
* BreakupSong: "Leftist Unity", though not [[HomoeroticSubtext officially romantic]], between Ancom and Commie.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: The distinction between Jreg the [=YouTuber=] and Jreg the anti-centrist character is increasingly muddled as the series goes on, culminating in the latter outright arguing with the former during Centricide 6 when the latter begins discussing the underlying logic of the video/setting and promoting the upcoming installments.
* CharacterCelebrityEndorsement:
** Centricide 2.5 ends with a long sponsored ad, all performed in-character by the four extremists. The jokes and character exploration delivered in this ''ad section'' alone are entertaining and interesting enough to keep you watching, though.
** "Print Money" ends with an ad from Raycon and has Ancap and Nazi talking about how much they endorse the earbuds.
* CommieNazis: The ideology of National Bolshevism is portrayed like this.
* {{Countrystan}}: Ancapistan, which has no government and is completely driven by capitalism. Communist and Nazi have to go through it to reach the Centrist HQ, but Anarcho-Capitalist makes them pay the toll and sings about it with several other inhabitants.
* DeathFlight:
** Ancap talks a lot about having statists (particularly communists) thrown out of helicopters to their deaths.
-->''And if you're a commie the NAP cannot stop me\
From throwing you out the choppie and then [=McNuking=] your body!''
** Hoppean openly brags that in his territory, anybody he considers degenerate gets "forcibly removed into the ocean". The background of his section in "Ancapistan" is the inside of a helicopter.
* DeconReconSwitch: The sincere moments of the show deconstruct the foundations of an ideology and highlight their flaws, but also show why they are supported anyway based on the valid points they can raise.
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: In Centricide 6, [[spoiler: Jreg reveals the true leader of the anti-centrist movement is {{JReg Gaming}}, the similarly named SitcomArchNemesis of the channel. However, it ends up being subverted when Jreg admits jre only used {{JReg Gaming}} as a means of delaying Radical Centrist until Tankie can arrive.]]
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: In the original ''Political Compass Rap'':
** Ancap used to be purple, not yellow tinted.
** They all spoke with Jreg's normal voice as opposed to their signature accents (Tankie being Russian, Nazi with a manipulative tone, Ancap with a flamboyant one and Ancom being whiny and screechy).
** A character just named "Centrist" appears at the end, whose character is based somewhat off of what Moderate Lee would become, although the Centrists are split into multiple entities representing different forms of centrism in Centricide.
* EnemyMine: A common premise to many of the videos is [[DirtyCommunists different]] [[BombThrowingAnarchists extremist]] [[PrivatelyOwnedSociety political]] [[ThoseWackyNazis ideologies]] joining forces to fight centrists.
* EverybodyHasLotsOfSex: In "Anarchist Infighting", the video ends with Queer Anarchism revealing that all of the anarchists are in a polyamorous relationship and they're all definitely having sex. Even the indecisive Post-Left Anarchist is cool with this.
* EvilVersusEvil: Oscillates between this and BlackAndGreyMorality. The 2 ringleaders of the series are objectively both [[BigBad Big Bads]] in their own ways, with Jreg being a sociopath who cares nothing for his pawns and possessed a teenager in order to sew discord for [[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist questionable intent,]] while Radical Centrist similarly treats his soldiers as having no value, and [[spoiler: deliberately murdered one of them in order to spark a war.]]
* FlatWorld: Centricide 6.25 reveals that the world of ''Centricide'' takes place on a flat Earth. Justified as the whole series technically takes place on the political compass.
* [[invoked]] FoeYayShipping: In-universe. “lil’ nas(bol)” contains art shipping [[UsefulNotes/WorldWarII Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin]].
* {{Foil}}: So many examples to count, given that Jreg likes to point out that even enemy ideologies are simply parallels to each other in ''some'' way whether it be goals and methods. As for the most recurring use of foils that are based more on personal dynamics than ideology (which are in turn found on the character pages):
** The extremes always bicker but can at least accomplish things over their willingness to use all means given regardless of morality, while the centrists are friendlier to each other but are indecisive.
** Ancom and Authleft tend to be friendly but acknowledge their long term desire to purge each other. Ancap and Authright throw blows at each other but secretly intend to keep the other as an attack dog in the long term. Also, Ancap and Ancom tend to be more chill with each other even if they'll never acknowledge the similarities between them in order to claim the title of "true" anarchist, while Authleft and Authright are willing to begrudgingly agree they can be similar at times even if they constantly bicker.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: The early Anti-Centrist theory videos such as "Know Your Enemy" contain multiple pieces of foreshadowing for the Centricide series.
** When talking about centrists who believe in horseshoe theory, Jreg says, "keep them away from the Nazbols". [[spoiler: The Nazbol kills Horseshoe Centrist.]]
** After mockingly saying that Dead Centrists just so happen to believe that the answer to all political issues lies in the exact center every single time, Jreg says [[spoiler: they die first]]. This is exactly what happens in Centricide 1.
** Many plot points in Centricide 6 were foreshadowed in earlier videos.
*** The DNA test Transhumanist mentions providing for one of the moderates [[spoiler: was a test of Nazi for Conservative which reveals Nazi is actually of Jewish descent.]]
*** The various mentions of {{JReg Gaming}} lead up to him [[AsHimself actually cameoing]] as [[spoiler: the true mastermind of the anti-centrist movement...except not really.]]
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: In “Anti-Centrism: Know Your Enemy”, one of the lyrics of the end credits asks the viewer to [[TooDumbToLive type what kind of centrist they are in the comments]] so they know who to kill first.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Nazi is this for most of the Centricide series, as the other Extremists hate his genocidal political views. [[spoiler: However, once Ancom leaves the Extremist cause and Commie and Nazi strike up an OddFriendship, Ancap ends up taking this role as Commie and Nazi tear into him for commodifying people's lives and accuse capitalism of killing millions more than their regimes did.]]
** [[CommieNazis Nazbol]] exaggerates this. His social and economic views make Authleft and Authright dislike him, he's not a centrist since he embodies extremist viewpoints and he's technically a coherent ideology even if strange, so he rejects the Wacky Ideologies. Probably for the better though, as a future where he was chosen as world leader due to Jreg enabling anti-centrism too much has him create an omnipresent totalitarian state. He does join up everyone for the final fight though, where it's hinted one of the reasons the ideologies fear him is that he'll make sense as indicated in a BadFuture episode where he took over.
* FusionDance: In Centricide 5, Commie and Nazi perform one of these to form Nazbol and defeat the Horseshoe Centrist.
* GodNeedsPrayerBadly: The characters are all embodiments of political ideologies, empowered by the beliefs of their followers. The Centrists are under threat by the Extremists radicalizing people away from their beliefs.
* GoldIsYellow: While the color associated with right-wing libertarianism on the political compass is usually purple, in ''Centricide'' it is colored yellow because "it definitely works better aesthetically." Various ideologies that fall within this section of the compass are tinted varying shades of yellow (Anarcho-Capitalist, Libertarian, Minarchist, Hoppean, etc.) and considering they are defined by their greed and wealth, this was the intention.
* GoldenMeanFallacy: Centrists are portrayed as falling victim to this.
* GrandTheftMe: Jreg is canonically the result of the real-life creator of the channel being possessed simultaneously by the ghosts of Kim Il-sung ('''J'''uche), Ayn '''R'''and, Julius '''E'''vola, and Che '''G'''uevara.
* GreedyJew: Nazi, naturally, buys into this stereotpe and hates capitalism in part because he thinks it's being controlled by Jews. [[spoiler:Ironically, after the revelation that he's half ethnic Jew, he starts acting like one himself. When Conservative gives some entirely justified criticism of his decision to continue his racism (albeit as a Jewish supremacist rather than a white supremacist), he accuses him of anti-Semitism and demands "reparations".]]
* HistoricalBadassUpgrade: After they died, Kim Il Sung, Che Guevara, Julius Evola, and Ayn Rand went on to possess Greg Guevara and became the embodiment of anti-centrism, forming Jreg. Together, they led the Extremists in their quest to eradicate centrism in the Centricide.
* HorsemenOfTheApocalypse: Used symbolically in the music video of Agree With Me, with each of the Extremists being represented with one of them:
** [[DirtyCommies Communist]] is Famine.
** [[ThoseWackyNazis Nazi]] is War.
** [[BombThrowingAnarchist Anarcho-Communist]] is Death.
** [[CapitalismIsBad Anarcho-Capitalist]] is Conquest.
* TheHorseshoeEffect: In the Political Compass Rap
-->Totalitarian Left: That's right! Wait why am I agreeing with you (Totalitarian Right)?
--> Your ideology's killed millions! (''Nazi gives Commie a {{Disapproving Look}}'') Okay, true.
** Horseshoe Centrist takes this position to its extreme.
-->’’The way I see it, [[InsaneTrollLogic there was no difference between them having Civil Rights and not having Civil Rights]]’’
* HypocriticalHumor: In Centricide 6, Nazi insists that the centrists are all Jews because of their hair and noses. Since he's played by the same actor as all of them, he shares their "Jewish" features. [[spoiler:Then Christian Conservative reveals Nazi's of Jewish descent, driving the point home]].
* IAmSong:
** "Political Compass Rap" for totalitarian right (what will turn into Nazi in ''Centricide''), totalitarian left (what will be Commie), anarchist left (what will be Ancom), and anarchist right (what will be Ancap).
** "Ancapistan" for Minarchist, Hoppean, and Libertarian.
** "All The Same To Me" for Horseshoe Centrist and Nazbol.
** "Lil' Nas(bol)" (a parody of "Old Town Road" by Music/LilNasX) for Nazbol.
* IronicEcho: In Centricide 5, [[spoiler: the titular line of the song "Every Extreme is on the Same Team" is quoted by Horseshoe Centrist to show how the extremists have proved his point for him.]]
* JustJokingJustification: In Centricide 7, "A Joke", Jreg explains that all of jris videos are just a joke, as it's funny to image a capitalist teaming up with a communist, or to have people guess what jre is and getting it wrong. It's all just one big, very serious, joke.
* LooseCanon: Centricide 7 is described as "dubiously canon" by Jreg InUniverse.
* LuckyCharmsTitle: One of the videos is called "🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡NOW ENTERING THE CLOWN ZONE🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡". Flowcharts for Centricide 7 usually simplify the emojis to "[CLOWNS]".
* MindScrew: Centricide 7 starts as a confrontation between the Radical Centrist and Jreg, but breaks out into this as Radical Centrist confronts [[spoiler: Greg Guevara who gives a tutorial to follow the video through the youtube annotation system. From there, the viewer is sent down a rabbit hole of more than forty short videos.]] It only avoids GainaxEnding because it isn't the ending and Centricide 8 features the Extremists vs [[spoiler: Accelerationism]].
* MultiPartEpisode: Centricide 8 is split into 3 parts.
* MultipleEndings: While there is only one ending for ''Centricide'', the LooseCanon StoryBranching Centricide 7 contains several endings, some good and bad.
* NoFourthWall: A lot of the videos have a pretty thin fourth wall, but Centricide 7 ends up being this completely, with the rabbit hole of videos largely being [[spoiler: Greg Guevara musing on jris overall creative process and jris relationship with jris audience and the work jre has created.]]
* NoSongForTheWicked:
** Despite being the main antagonist, Radical Centrist never gets his own song. The only proper centrist song is "All The Same To Me" sung by Horseshoe Centrist.
** To a lesser degree, Nazi. Although he sings his part in "The Centrists Gotta Go" and in the proto-Centricide "Political Compass Rap". However, he is the only extremist who doesn't get a song focused primarily around him. Ancom and Commie get "Leftist Unity" and Ancap gets "Ancapistan".
* NotSoDifferentRemark:
** "Political Compass Rap" includes a line where Nazi tells Tankie there are many they agree on. Sure enough, after [[spoiler:Ancom becomes Post-Left Anarchist and leaves the Anti-Centrists]], the two end up bonding due to their ideologies holding a lot of common ground.
** In Centricide 6, [[spoiler:Radical Centrist invokes this on Anti-Centrist while channeling the powers of the horseshoe, noting how both of them hold wildly incongruent beliefs and are willing to sacrifice their pawns for slight advantages.]]
* NukeEm: Ancapistan's response to violation of the Non-Aggression Principle is a "recreational" nuclear bomb. The Posadist believes in using nuclear war to cleanse the world of capitalism. He's shown making an offer to Ancapistan for their nuke in Centricide 4.5.
* OffIntoTheDistanceEnding: Centricide 8 ends this way with the four extremists bickering among each other as they walk into the horizon.
* OneWordTitle: The "Centricide" is the extermination of the centrists, led by the Extremists.
* OurSpiritsAreDifferent: Usually, when a human dies, their soul passes on. But when their will is strong enough, their spirit lingers around. Spirits are also able to combine into "mega-spirits." Ghosts can only possess blood relatives, which is how Che Guevara was able to possess Greg Guevara, also allowing Kim Il Sung, Julius Evola, and Ayn Rand to possess jrem too by combining into one mega-spirit.
* PayingForAir: "Centricide 4.5: Ancapistan" has the Capitalists mention that in the episode's titular city, they pay 12 bucks each breath of air, but everyone's a billionaire (except for the cripplingly poor).
* PocketProtector: [[spoiler:In Centricide 6, it's revealed that Conservative survived being shot twice by Nazi thanks to two books he had on him at the time. One was a copy of Literature/TheBible, and the other was ''12 Rules for Life'' by Dr. Jordan Peterson]]
* PrivatelyOwnedSociety: Anarchist Right wants this and forms this in ''Ancapistan'', which even gets its own song.
* PuttingTheBandBackTogether: By episode 8 [[spoiler: the extremes unite again, including an Ancom that TookALevelInBadass, and defeat Accelerationism. They decide to subvert the expected ending of turning against each other and decide to hang with all the centrists now dead as per their objective, though they realize to their horror that getting back together means they've restored the ''status quo''....of their friendship.]]
* RecapEpisode: Centricide 7.05 recaps the entire series up to that point within a minute. It is not listed on the official Jreg channel, but it gets linked to in the middle of Centricide 7.
* RejectedMarriageProposal: If you go to Centricide 7.4, Jreg will ask you if you'd marry jrem. Centricide 7.4B is called "No", selecting it makes jrem start talking about how this was not intended to be this long, then start saying jre doesn't want to do this anymore repeatedly.
* RewatchBonus: [[spoiler: Radical Centrist explicitly describes the Jreg channel as "pure unchecked accelerationism" in the first episode. This sentence seems innocuous until TheReveal when Jreg's EvilAllAlong intentions are to form Accelerationism with Radical Centrist.]]
* RidingTheBomb: Posadist in the final part of Centricide 8.
* RoyalInbreeding: Monarchists are on the receiving end of jokes about being incestuous whenever they’re mentioned.
--> “The monarchists will kiss their sis”
** Especially with Absolutists (aka Absolute Monarchists).
--> If monarchists are inbred, absolutists died in the womb.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler: Ancom abandons the anti-centrist cause after being converted to a post-leftist. Ancap and Libertarian do the same to the anti-centrist and centrist cause respectively after the former is pushed away from the extremists by the united authoritarians and the latter is nearly converted to Neoliberal by the Centrists. Nazi gathers up a few other ideologies to form his own team.]]
* SeriesContinuityError: Centricide 6.25 shows the Wacky reinforcement going up against Radical Centrist. But at the beginning of Centricide 6.5, Anmon and Anprim appear in the anarchist commune before leaving to join the battle. It'd be more accurate to describe Centricide 6.25 as Centricide 6.75.
* SexIsEvil: Subverted. Post-Left seems initially taken aback by the revelation that all the leftist Anarchist ideologies are also a polycule, complete with ominous music, only to reveal that qui is totally okay with it, and the resulting off-screen orgy [[spoiler: helping to stabilize quis physical and mental state and reassume quis original form as Ancom for the finale and the battle against Accelerationism.]]
* SingingVoiceDissonance: Horseshoe Centrist's southern accent is dropped completely when he sings in Centricide 5. [[spoiler: When Nazbol joins the fight and begins singing, his staple wacky voice isn't present as well.]]
* StrawmanPolitical: Literally every character is some form of strawman.
** The extremists are all ideological caricatures-Authoritarian Left is a HuskyRusskie who threatens his opponents with the gulag, Authoritarian Right is ANaziByAnyOtherName who gleefully supports genocide, Libertarian Left is a StrawLoser who alternates between doing large quantities of drugs and assaulting opponents while screeching that they are Nazis and Libertarian Right wants to privatize all government functions, own private nukes and has several child sex slaves.
** The centrists are likewise all strawmen (save for Radical Centrist and the PosthumousCharacter Dead Centrist). Political Nihilist regards all politics as stupid and is apathetic about practically everything, Horseshoe Centrist does not see any differences between any two positions whatsoever, Anti-Radical reacts to the words 'extreme' with anger and Ape-Political will beat up anyone who expresses any form of political belief. Nazbol, meanwhile, is a [[CommieNazis Commie Nazi]], but that is TruthInTelevision.
** This is Downplayed with the more moderate members of each quadrant-Socialist and Progressive are depicted as fairly reasonable and mostly realistically. However, Conservative mixes more realistic espousement of conservative positions with strawman elements such as praying to Jordan Peterson and saying he hates black people but 'not enough to do anything about it.' Libertarian, meanwhile, is an absolute StrawHypocrite who espouses anti-government beliefs but makes most of his money selling weapons to foreign governments.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: The four political extremists don’t get along with each other, especially Authoritarian Right. That is unless they're fighting centrists, in which they're united.
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: Downplayed, but in Centricide 4 [[spoiler: Ancap realizes he doesn't want to be a purge-happy fanatic and realizes his ideology unintentionally kills more than what Authleft and Authright could ever hope to do. After leaving the Extremists and rescuing Libertarian, however, the two still decide to come up with various illicit ways to get money.]] By Centricide 4.5 [[spoiler: he's acted on this by finding Ancapistan which while a hellhole, doesn't wish to attack anyone that avoids crossing it.]]
* TokenEvilTeammate: Multiple
** For the Extremists: Authoritarian right/Nazi/[[InsistentTerminology White Identitarian]] is the most blatantly evil extremist and is the only one depicted as having no valid points whatsoever, with anything that does come off as positive being a smokescreen for a bad idea or already being said by Authoritarian Left or Ancap.
** For the Centrists: It's Anti-Extremist/Anti-Radical, who is notably more violent and bloodthirsty than the other centrists, who are usually too apathetic/confused/contradictory to do anything and don't have particularly violent instincts.
** For Ancapistan: Hoppean who is such an elitist that he has genocidal views on race and wants to exterminate poor people as well who are no better than queer and POC in his eyes.
** For the Anarchists: Insurrectionary Anarchism is only in it for toppling whatever he sees as a hierarchy ''without'' something to replace it given that he's just a BloodKnight. He mocks the idea of a better world while Anfash is at least capable of conceptualizing an ethno commune where people get along. Not that Anfash didn't try to be this as he believes the state is the only thing preventing him from committing genocide.
** For the Moderates: Averted with Conservative, who highlights the positive aspects of traditionalist thought and unlike Socialist and Progressive, isn't idle and tries to reform his extremist counterpart. Though it's a bit downplayed with Libertarian, who isn't totally evil as well, is a CorruptCorporateExecutive just like [=AnCap=] and gives into his greedy urges in Ancapistan.
** For the Wackies: Also averted with Nazbol given that his ideology ''technically'' makes sense despite having both totalitarian economic and social policy and ''won't'' leave humanity in a contradictory mess, hence him getting kicked out of the Wackies. He's also ironically less unhinged than Nazi and Commie so far in the series.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Depending on the definition, Ancom or Ancap could qualify. Ancom's positions are depicted as being the most reasonable of the four extremists and while the other extremists favor genocide, gulags and child sex slaves, quer most unreasonable position is giving children drugs. On the other hand, Ancom is eager to assault anyone que thinks is a Nazi (which happens to be essentially everyone who isn't quem). Ancap, meanwhile, while endorsing a number of morally dubious policies, is the least violent extremist [[spoiler:, lets his more moderate purple quadrant colleague Libertarian escape unharmed rather than kill him as ordered and displays far more angst over whether or not he's a good person than the rest of the extremists do]].
** Transhumanism qualifies as this for the Wackies, as while the other ones want societies that are dysfunctional and likely hellish to live in (or bring about in the case of Posadism), Transhumanism just wants to get 'that robot dick' which is far less objectionable. [[spoiler: Ironically, he is the only one who betrays all the others once Accelerationism manifests, since he wants to exist in a post-human world.]]
* {{Transhumanism}}: An extremist ideology occasionally mentioned. Portrayed as wanting [[ArtificialLimbs robot arms]].
* UnderestimatingBadassery: [[spoiler:Nazi and Commie think the Horseshoe Centrist poses no threat to them, especially since they have him outnumbered 2-to-1. But their teamwork only proves his point for him, allowing him to use his abilities to put them both on the ropes.]]
* VillainTeamUp: From the centrist perspective, this happens whenever the 4 extremes hang out to oppose centrism. The ideologies that get along better end up with VillainousFriendship.
* VillainousBSOD: Nazi suffers one in Centricide 6 when he is informed [[spoiler:he has Jewish ancestry.]] It hits him so hard he stumbles backwards [[OnASoundstageAllAlong taking his greenscreen down with him]]. He recovers by [[spoiler: becoming a Zionist, reasoning that it means that "his people" are the smartest and richest as well as secretly in control of the world with their own ethnostate]].
* WhamLine: In "Centricide 6"
-->'''[[spoiler:Conservative]]''': ''(to Nazi)'' I confirmed my suspicions. [[spoiler:[[YouAreWhatYouHate You're a Jew]].]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes present in ''The Mental Illnesses'']]
* ArtisticLicensePharmacology: When characters drink from the Fountain of SSRI, they are granted immediate positive results. Depression describes himself as feeling amazing directly after drinking. Actual [=SSRIs=] take a few weeks before the person begins to benefit. Side effects of the SSRI are prevalent in the first weeks as the body adjusts.
* AsideComment:
** In ''Robbery'':
-->'''Anxiety''': I'll have a, uh... I'll have a, uh... ''[InnerMonologue]'' ''Oh God, oh God, oh fuck, I knew this would happen. I knew this would happen. Oh God, why do I even try? How could this possibly get any worse?''\
'''Sociopathy''': ''[pulling out gun]'' This is a robbery. Everybody put your fucking hands in the air!\
'''Anxiety''': ''[to audience]'' Oh, that's how!
** In ''Laugh Track'':
-->'''Schizophrenia''': Oh, should I go visit [Autism]?\
'''PTSD''': Hm, no, he doesn't like to be disturbed so... ''[looks to camera]'' I wouldn't go there.
* AudienceWhatAudience: PTSD's reaction to Schizophrenia's fourth-wall breaking.
-->'''PTSD''': Yeah, Schizophrenia, I guarantee nobody's laughing.
* BaitAndSwitch: In an example of TrollingCreator, the entire series is technically a bait-and-switch. The original “The Mental Illnesses” video came out directly after the last ''Centricide'' video. The video portrays the concept of [[AnthropomorphicPersonification personified]] mental illnesses as flawed and possibly harmful due to how complex disorders are simplified. Some took it as a satirization of ''Centricide''’s concept. At the end, Neurotypical declares the series a very bad idea and states “there should not be any more of this.” On [[https://twitter.com/mc_swm/status/1361800381408415749 Twitter]] Jreg posted the video and made a poll captioned “Should this be the next series” with both answers of the poll being “no”. Three months later? It’s an actual series.
* BungledSuicide: In episode 4, [[spoiler:Depression tries to shoot himself and discovers he cannot die.]]
* BurgerFool: Depression works at a fast food joint. He doesn't appear to like it, considering his experience in life is so bad that he actively wants to stop living.
* CannotSpitItOut: [[spoiler: Anxiety to Depression in "The Mental Illnesses 4", possibly an InterruptedDeclarationOfLove.]]
-->[[spoiler: '''Anxiety''': Depression, people really care about you. ''I'' care about you. I... I might even l...lo--...l--.]]
* CompanyCrossReferences: Schizophrenia, being a FourthWallObserver, references ''Centricide'' multiple times.
** In "Laugh Track" he says they're the "spiritual successor of a web series about political ideologies", referencing the concept of ''Centricide''.
** In "Schizophrenia Explains Schizophrenia", he describes people with schizotypal personality disorder as having "magical thinking". Saying "they might believe in some wacky stuff that nobody else believes, like some random - like some political framework that doesn't exist but they believe it unironically for some reason." This is a callback to anti-centrism, a fictional ideology that's the driving force of the ''Centricide'' series.
** In "The Fountain of SSRI", a mysterious figure that calls himself "Junior Egg" appears before Schizophrenia, represented as the Anti-centrism Webcomic/PolcompBall.
* DestinationDefenestration: Socipathy pushes Neurotypical out the window from at least the second floor in "The Mad House"
* EdibleAmmunition: Inverted in episode 5, where normal bullets are used. Pica eats the lead bullets PTSD shoots at her. Although according to him, he was just offering her a meal.
* EnsembleCast: ''The Mental Illnesses'' features a cast of over 7 main characters.
* EpisodeTitleCard: Present for the first three episodes. Absent from ''3.5'' and the fourth. Returns in the 5th.
* EverybodyLaughsEnding: Played straight in the first episode of ''The Mental Illnesses''.
* ExploitingTheFourthWall: Schizophrenia is aware he's a 2D sheet of visual information. He exploits this in episode 5 in a fight with a neurotypical where he manipulates himself to dodge the neurotypical's weapon. But the neurotypical also exploits the fourth wall by pulling back Schizophrenia's green screen and "smashing" reality, sending Schizophrenia into a temporary daze.
* FriendsRentControl: The Mad House has at least 10 residents. It has multiple stories and is next to a city. The only characters shown to have some way of making money is Depression and Autism, who has a McJob and trades stocks respectively. So unless Autism is ''really'' good at trading stocks, this goes unexplained.
* HealingSpring: The Fountain of SSRI is a spring. The fountain spews selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), which are used to treat depressive and anxiety disorders. The fountain grants drinkers immediate positive effects.
* HypocriticalHumor: In "The Fountain of SSRI", PTSD chastises Sociopathy for using a gun, right before proceeding to gun down Neurotypicals.
* LaughTrack: In keeping with the {{Sitcom}} theme of ''The Mental Illnesses'', the series utilizes canned laughter. [[MoodDissonance The laughter plays even when nothing funny is occurring]]. [[spoiler: At the end of the third episode “Laugh Track”, it’s revealed that the laughter is coming from a group of neurotypicals next door who are watching the mental illnesses through their TV. Although it’s not clear if this applies to the entire series.]] Schizophrenia is the [[FourthWallObserver only one able to hear the laugh track]].
-->'''Schizophrenia''': There was nothing funny about what you just said but... but they laugh. Why do they laugh?
* MelancholyMusicalNumber: "Stockholm Syndrome With Being Alive" from the ''Mental Illnesses'' episode of the same name. The song details Depression's bleak worldview and how he views the "normal ones" as having StockholmSyndrome with life, disillusioned with reality. Yet, at the same time, Depression desperately wishes to be like them.
* TheReveal: In episode 5, [[spoiler:the [=SSRIs=] triggered "Depression's" mania, revealing he's actually Bipolar Disorder.]]
* RoommateCom: See {{Sitcom}}.
* ShoutOut: In the "The Mental Illnesses" video, the background music of Dementia's section is "Everywhere At The End Of Time" by Music/TheCaretaker, an album relating to the illness.
* {{Sitcom}}: Compared to its predecessor ''Centricide''’s MythArc, ''The Mental Illnesses'' takes a more sitcom approach to storytelling. Schizophrenia outright calls the series a sitcom premise in “Laugh Track.” The series is a RoommateCom centering around the many residents of the Mad House.
* SpiritualSuccessor: ''The Mental Illnesses'' is the spiritual successor of ''Centricide''. FourthWallObserver Schizophrenia outright calls it a spiritual successor in the third episode.
* StealthPun:
** DID's segment in the "The Mental Illnesses" video mostly consists of him ''switching'' his name; from "Split Personality Disorder" to "Multiple Personality Disorder" before settling on "Dissociative Identity Disorder".
** The house the mental illnesses reside in is called "the Mad House", named in the first episode title. A "madhouse" is an informal, somewhat offensive term for a psychiatric hospital that houses mentally ill patients.
* TraumaButton: PTSD's trauma is accidentally triggered multiple times, usually by another character asking what traumatized him.
* AVerySpecialEpisode: "Schizophrenia Explains Schizophrenia." The episode has no plot and is light on humor. Schizophrenia [[NoFourthWall speaks directly to the viewer]] about what schizophrenia is and how it's like to live with it. He also talks about things similar to schizophrenia such as schizotypal personality disorder and schizoid personality disorder. Near the end, he elaborates on the deep-rooted stigma surrounding schizophrenics and the ableism they face. He urges the viewer to treat schizophrenics like people while also cutting them some slack if they act a little off.
* WelcomeEpisode: The first episode of ''The Mental Illnesses''. Neurotypical is introduced to the residents of the Mad House.
