Go To

'''''WARNING: Unmarked spoilers ahead. Go on at your own risk.'''''

[[WMG:The game will be dubbed in the U.K. (like the original ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'') or in the U.S. (like ''VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX'').]]
* With 8-4 not translating the game, this is looking more likely
** Apparently, kinda confirmed by the sounds of the second trailer! It seems they're using a combination of American and European voice actors this time.
** It has now been outright confirmed that Nintendo of Europe is handling the game's localization just like the first game.
[[WMG: This game is not a sequel, but a prequel.]]
* It could detail a previous cycle before that of Shulk and his friends' adventure, given the existence of some of the same monsters as before and the existence of different Tuitans, possibly previous versions of Zanza and Meyneth.
*** Jossed. [[spoiler: The game isn't a prequel, but it isn't really a sequel either. It takes place alongside the first game, and does reveal more about the origins of both worlds]].
[[WMG: The pronunciation of "Nopon"]]
* Characters with British accents will pronounce it as [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 "Nopp-on"]] while characters with American accents will pronounce it as [[VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX "Nope-on"]].
** Jossed. Mortals and Blades alike use "Nopp-on".
[[WMG: The Architect is evil.]]
* One of the prerelease directs mentioned a figure known as The Architect, implied to be a god-like figure since the Titans are considered his servants. The Architect will turn out to have forced humanity into a terrible situation for petty reasons, be a tyrannical ControlFreak, and serve as the final boss.
** Given that the ''Xeno'' games regularly take influences from {{UsefulNotes/Gnosticism}}, a religion where GodIsEvil, this seems very likely.
*** Jossed [[spoiler: The architect is the good half of Klaus who wishes to atone for the sins he has committed to Morytha, the real final boss is Malos controlling the Arifice of the end: Aion. Aion basically looks like Deus with a wilder color scheme.]]. However, [[spoiler:this certainly would apply to the architect's evil half that looms over Bionis]].
[[WMG: Rex and Pyra will have a romance subplot]]
* Because of the link they share with Pyra's lifeforce.
** It's not the first time Tetsuya Takahashi makes [[VideoGame/XenoGears a game where the protagonist literally moves heaven and earth to catch a redhead's eye]]
** [[spoiler:Confirmed, it's a similar relationship to Shulk and Fiora]],
[[WMG: Zeke has some sort of connection to Torna]]
* Just a gut theory.
** Seeing as in the footage, [[spoiler:he's fought as a boss]], I wouldn't be surprised.
** Jossed. The closest connection he has is that he's Tantalese, who are distant descendants of the original Tornan people.
[[WMG: Going forward, there are two ways the [[VirtualPaperDoll customizable outfits]] can go from here]]
* They will either be back with a vengeance in the next game [[AuthorsSavingThrow after the negative reception of its absence in this game]].
* Or they will never reappear again, as Monolith Soft is moving away from it (after the negative reception to the previous game's [[{{Bowdlerize}} Bowdlerization]] to blame).
* [[TakeAThirdOption Or it'll be downplayed]], with a slot for changing gear, but the gear will be restricted to single skin parts given the importance of some characters' articles of clothing.
** With the Land of Challenge prizes, whole outfits are unlocked and used as Aux Cores and driver trinkets.
[[WMG: Only Blades from fresh Core Crystals are permanantly affected by their resonating Driver]]
* It's explicit that a Blade's mentality can be changed depending on the wishes of the Driver; [[spoiler: Malos is directly spelled out to have been basically lost to Amalthus's nihilistic desires right up until the final battle, unable to find his own identity, and Pandoria acknowledges that she probably wouldn't care about her next Drivers probably being bandits while Zeke is dying. However, it's not clear how much influence a Driver has on Blades that aren't fresh cores; Rare Blades retain their appearances perfectly between incarnations, as seen by Vess, Wulfric, Brighid, and Aegeon. How much their identity changes between incarnations is a subject of much debate in-story, with Brighid even keeping a diary between instances of herself. However, it does seem that a Blade's first Driver leaves much more of an influence on them than any other; the only three Cores we can be reasonably certain were brand-new when being resonated with were Haze's, Malos's, and Mythra's. Malos, as mentioned above, maintained afanatical devotion to Amalthus's ideals even when directly opposing him, without even realising it and Haze physically resembled Lora to the point where it was called out in-story. Mythra also disliked her own power, possibly in-tune with Addam's dislike of what he saw behind the 'third' Aegis blade. None of the other Rare Blades change to any significant degree between Drivers; Vess in particular stands out as being almost completely unchanged from her prior incarnation, regardless of which party Driver she resonates with. The possible exceptions are Wulfric, who is actually very kind, belying his own appearance and actions when initially supporting the giant Arachno that seemed to have been his first Driver, and Dromarch who resembles one aspect of Nia (her faux-Gormotti appearance) and being basically everything she wanted in a companion; unyieldingly loyal and exceptionally faithful.]]
** Wulfric is no exception: He used to be bonded to the Elder Arachno boss, and the giant arachnids are aways shown to be social animal which tend to build giant communal hives. So him being kind and eager to help humans once he's bonded to one makes perfect sense: [[FridgeBrilliance he's still adhering to "Help and Assist my Driver's Brethren" drive that got imprited in him when the Elder Arachno first woke him up]]
[[WMG:[[spoiler:Niall was OnlyMostlyDead]]]]
* Specifically, they took wounds that would have been fatal within minutes, but circumstances conspired to make it look even worse. [[spoiler:Niall wasn't killed instantly by Giga Rosa's explosion, "just" severely maimed, and Aegeon reverted to his Core Crystal due to damage taken from his part in shielding all the others. Both these things conspired to make it look like Niall perished instantly, and Nia could tell nothing short of her unsealed restoration abilities would save him, so she acted immediately. She didn't actually resurrect anyone, just miraculously saved a hopeless case.]] Incidentally, this makes the "First aid" comment [[ExactWords technically true.]]
** Potential flaws in this idea include that we never see any blade take damage from using their deflector shield, unless said shield breaks (and it didn't when Aegeon used his). Further, unless their core itself is badly damaged it doesn't matter to any normal blade what damage they take from anything, as they rapidly heal afterward, and cores are not easy things to damage (its doubtful an explosion that failed to kill Bana would have managed to mortally damage Aegeon's core crystal, and if it had then Aegeon would have been permanently dead anyway, he wouldn't have been able to regenerate as the new Aegeon Morag awakens).
[[WMG:[[spoiler:The world everyone goes to in the ending]]]]
* [[spoiler:is the world somewhat created by Shulk at the end of Xenoblade 1. The timing lines up perfectly for creation; Shulk and Rex are having their final battles simultaneously, and Shulk creates his world soon after his [[{{Pre-Mortem One-Liner}} Pre-Mortem One Liner]] heard in this game. It would also explain Alvis's final words to Shulk in Xenoblade 1; "This new world is boundless. It is home to not only you, but many forms of life." The many forms of life could be Xenoblade 2's new races; Urayans, Gormotti, Blades, etc. It is also perfect sequel bait, though each game's characters in the other's art style would look out of place.]]
** [[spoiler:Alternatively, Shulk didn't use the Alvis's/Ontos's/The Conduit's power to create a new universe, but to transport the dying and collapsing Bionis corpse to the original world where Xenoblade Chronicles 2 takes place, dumping it in the middle of the ocean. At the end of the first game, the party is fishing in the ocean and Reyn notes how the sea is salty as if it was the first time he's ever swam in a saltwater sea. Had the world been the remains of the world Zanza created, this would not be possible as an endless sea can't be saturated with salt and Zanza never intended to have life leave Bionis, so oceanic life would be counterproductive. Both of these things, however, are completely plausible if the Bionis Corpse was dumped in Earth's oceans. Additionally, it does not make sense for Rex and company to have traveled to a new dimension since the "rift" Azurda crossed wouldn't make sense to be a dimensional rift since the Conduit is gone. In all likelihood, he's probably referring to the outer boarders of Alrest, where the Leftherian Cloud Sea Barrier used to be, since abandoning the world Klaus tried to restore would have conflicted with the major themes of the story. Plus. the World Tree is still visible from Elysium, so an alternate dimension is completely out of the picture.]]
[[WMG:All three titans that sank during the Aegis War were for the same reason]]
* As in, [[spoiler:the other two had manned Titan nurseries just like Torna. Amalthus/Malos/Indol started fights there to make sure knowledge of the Titan life cycle died completely.]]
[[WMG: [[spoiler: Rex marries both Pyra and Mythra]]]]
* One implication of the very last image in the game, the title screen image that showcases the setting of what happens "next" in the story [[spoiler: is that Rex ends up in a {{Polyamorous}} relationship, namely Rex holding both Mythra and Pyra's hands as they look over the new world. While your choice of what Rex calls Pneuma determines whether its Pyra or Mythra who mouths "I love you," earlier scenes (such as where Zeke says Pneuma is the girl Rex loves, and much earlier when Zeke asks which one he fancies and he says he doesn't think of them as two people) makes it clear Rex sees them as two halves of the same person and loves them both. They likewise see each other as two expressions of the same person, so sharing Rex once they get separate bodies may well feel quite natural. No indications of a OneTrueThreesome though since neither Pyra or Mythra exhibit any sexual interest in the other, as again they regard themselves as in a sense the same being. Another hint to such an ending for the trio can be seen in the last of the illusions Rex experiences when Klaus looks inside his heart, with Pyra and Mythra living with him as if they were both his wives.]]
** Then we have the title screen for finishing New Game + [[spoiler: which can be seen as implying Nia may well get involved in a One True Foursome with the trio.]]
** Confirmed; [[spoiler: ''Xenoblade 3'' reveals Rex married Pyra, Mythra ''and'' Nia.]]

[[WMG: Xenoblade 3 will be a crossover between this and the original]]
* [[spoiler: Considering the links between the two, Klaus being there, Alvis/The Monado being heavily implied to be the third Aegis, and dimension travel being possible in here; there's so much questions left unanswered here.]] It will also be called Xenoblade 1+2, and pull a BaitAndSwitch on us, making us think it's a CompilationReRelease when it's first announced.
** Shulk will be the protagonist again, but if the Blade system returns, his Blade would either be Fiora or Pyra/Mythra, [[MoneyDearBoy for cynical reasons]] and explained via plot contrivances (such as the even more cynical but entirely possible move of [[PutOnABus benching Rex]] via even more plot contrivances in Pyra/Mythra's case).

[[WMG: Being a driver is hereditary.]]
* On multiple occasions closely related individuals are shown to be drivers, Niall and Morag for example. Also Tora, his father and his grandfather are all non-drivers. As well as [[spoiler: Akhos and Patroka, whose Drivers were siblings.]] These two details combined indicate that being a driver is hereditary.
** Jossed according to ''Torna: The Golden Country'', as blood relations don't guarantee being able to resonate with core crystals. Addam's uncle, for instance, was unable to bond with Mythra's core crystal. Hugo also had an older brother that was unable to bond with Brighid and Aegaeon. The fact that Mabon didn't simply pass down Vess' core crystal to one of his children may also imply that they were unable to resonate.
** Hereditary traits are not guaranteed it's possible that these older siblings simply did not inherit sufficient resonance. Whithout knowing the driver status of both parents these examples are not conclusive.

[[WMG: Being a Driver is based on personal ideology.]]
* When awakening Blades, the Idea Stats such as Bravery, Truth, Compassion, and Justice are taken into consideration when deciding what kind of Blade is born from the Core Crystal. All the Drivers seen through out the game exhibit excellence in at least one these traits. Jac, the Gormontti recruit from Torigoth, became a Driver out of compassion for his family. Morag became a Driver out of a sense of Duty to Mor Ardan, exhibiting Bravery, Compassion, and Justice. Zeke is iconic for his Eye of Shining Justice and values knowledge of the world outside of Tantal, seeking Truth. Even Amalthus has a sense of Justice, twisted as it is, seeking to purify the world of those he deems unfit for it. Meanwhile, the five failed resonance we see across both the main game and the expansion occur from more ambiguous or selfish characters. Tora's family gets off easy with simply a nosebleed since they are kindhearted Nopon with some questionable tastes. Zettar is badly injured, but survives to tell the tale since while he does do what he thinks is right for Torna, he does them with his own interests in mind. The Gormontti who died before Jac tried to resonate with Yachik was clearly arrogant and tried to become a Driver for selfish reasons. Given the fact that [[spoiler: Klaus made the Blades to monitor humanity and its development,]] it wouldn't be surprising if this was how they operated.

[[WMG: Blades CannotSelfTerminate]]
* Through the game we see a number of Blades that express that they want to die, but none seem to actually try to. The closest we get are things like Pyra being willing to sacrifice herself, but even then she is dependent on an outside force doing the job. Blades are able to kill their own driver and thus return to their core, but truly killing themselves seems beyond their ability, perhaps as a consequence of them having been made to collect information (ending their own life brings an end to that purpose). This is perhaps most clearly illustrated by Herald, who outright will demand that the party destroy her core crystal, but she makes no attempt to try to do so herself. Certainly destroying a core is not easy, but she should have had enough power to at least make an effort at it. Jin and Mythra/Pyra are a bit murkier as examples, as they had other reasons to keep living for the time being.

[[WMG: The great war that brought Klaus to use the Conduit was fought over land and resources]]
Appropriately enough, everything comes full circle by the time ‘‘2’’ takes place. Just as tensions rise from Gunbu dying from his resources being plundered and Mor Ardain’s occupation of Torigoth, Klaus’s earth was set upon by overpopulation and increasingly limited resources. It’s very possible that, like Rex’s view of Elysium, Klaus believed if he could find or create a new universe, resources and room would be plentiful enough for all of humankind.

[[WMG: [[VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX The Samaarians]] have some tie to the Conduit, and may have even created it]]
As this game elaborates on the Conduit’s true power and purpose, it is revealed to have the ability to travel to and create new universes. The Samaarians from ‘‘X’’ are explicitly stated to have come from another universe before they created the Ganglion and their descendants evolved into humans.

[[WMG: Alternatively, [[VideoGame/XenobladeChroniclesX the Samaarians]] are merely survivors from Morytha]]
Perhaps a chunk of Klaus' world not only got thrown out relatively unscathed in an parallel universe but back in time as well. Having arrived with advanced technology and in a much younger universe, the survivors might have had the time, resource and opportunity to build a gigantic, Super-Cluster-sized multi-species civilization, while on its own little corner of the universe, Earth followed a very similar path than Klaus' World, eventually giving birth to a species so similar genetically to the Samaarians that their client-races would mistake them for descendants of their masters.

[[WMG: The experiments Klaus conducted were on Mira rather than Earth.]]

[[WMG: KOS-MOS is secretly looking for [[RobotMe Elma]].]]

[[WMG: KOS-MOS helped build the World Tree.]]
KOS-MOS taught the humans how to use the Conduit, since she has prior knowledge of the Zohar. Humans gained a far quicker grasp of the Zohar/Conduit than any other because of KOS-MOS. It leads to the developments of the Trinity System (as a far more humane system than in ''VideoGame/XenoSaga'') and the futuristic technology before its time. In fact her heart to heart suggests she already knew how The Beanstalk was built, because she was the one who taught the humans how to build it.

[[WMG: The [[VideoGame/BatenKaitos Great Whale]] [[DisneyDeath revived]] Pyra and Mythra.]]

[[WMG: KOS-MOS and T-elos are {{Reincarnations}} of themselves from {{VideoGame/Xenosaga}}]]
It is possible that the planet KOS-MOS ver. 4 was drifting towards at the end of the third game was Earth, and her data was taken into a Core Crystal, restoring her and T-elos. They even have a -Re. suffix in the Japanese version.

[[WMG: Pneuma's real weapon should be a Monado]]
* Malos/Logos has one, and it's implied Alvis and his red Monado were Ontos. Pnuema, when firing on all cylinders, should also have a Monado of her own. However, Mythra and Pyra were created as a PowerLimiter, so naturally can't use that sort of power. When Rex unlocks her Pnuema state, she's subconsciously using her Conduit-driven reality-rewriting powers to turn her weapon into a third Aegis Sword, because [[AFormYouAreComfortableWith that's what Rex can use well]] and [[IRejectYourReality her powers]] make up the difference.
** Meyneth's Monado didn't have Arts or glass panels to display symbols either. It may not look or function exactly like the Monados wielded by Malos, Zanza or Shulk, but Pneuma's Aegis Sword is likely a Monado all the same. The same could arguably apply to Pyra's and Mythra's Aegis Swords as well, especially if you consider Malos's current form to be his equivalent of Mythra, not his full potential.

[[WMG: Turters is a larval titan]]
The Tantalese titan, Genbu, also resembles a turtle.

[[WMG: Klaus’s experiment runs on ‘‘Manga/FullmetalAlchemist’’-like ideas of EquivalentExchange]]
* We’ve never really had a clear idea of why Klaus’s experiment to create a new universe destroyed the one of his birth, so this is just a shot in the dark. Simply put, Klaus’s experiment required an equal and opposite reaction, even if he believed otherwise. In order to create a universe, the Conduit had to destroy the one that already existed. And true to ‘‘Fullmetal’’’s interpretation, something or someone was waiting for him when he did…
** Klaus didn't destroy a universe. He badly mangled one planet. The game is quite explicit that Morythia is what's left of old Earth. The visuals for the experiment, for that matter, are quite similar to Aion's self-destruct. Old Earth just ate a Conduit-powered boom.

[[WMG: Related to the above, Klaus’s two forms are his punishment for meddling in God’s domain]]
* In the same vein The Truth from ‘‘Fullmetal’’ has a perchance for ironic punishments when mortals attempt human transmutation, Klaus was cursed with godhood when he attempted to become divine, perhaps by ‘‘the’’ God, a god or just a karmaic universe. As both the Architect and Zanza, Klaus was forced to play god for two universes until their populations eventually outgrew him. He wandered into God’s domain and was forced to play his part as a deity until he could create a world that could go on without him, only then being allowed to die a mortal’s death.

[[WMG: Klaus’s soul wasn’t the only one split in half during his experiment.]]
* Much like how Klaus’s “evil” half was sent to the universe of the first game and became Zanza, Galea’s “good” half was sent to that same universe and became Meyneth. That means that her “evil” half may have been flung into another dimension, and will be the BigBad of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

[[WMG:[[spoiler:Rex is biologically related to Addam]]]]
* [[spoiler: As of Torna: The Golden Country we know that Addam had a pregnant wife to come home to. With the destruction of Torna, it's people moved to their new titan of Genbu to create the kingdom of Tantal. With every Tornan having blue eyes, what are the chances that there would be more than one family that has someone in it with Golden eyes? Not to mention the chances of someone from Leftheria entering Tantal is next to impossible due to Tantal's isolationist nature. We also know Rex is not a native to Leftheria yet has Golden eye and his Mother came into Fonsett wearing clothes from Tantal. I think it's a pretty good guess to assume that Rex and his family are related to Lady Origo's child and therefore Addam. I mean why else would they bring her up after finishing all the sidequest in Torna if it didn't tie back to the main game?]]
** [[spoiler: Rex is also the Latin word for King, and Malos himself takes special note of Rex having the same Golden Eyes as Addam: “How could a nobody like you...?! ...Ah,but with those eyes... I guess I should have been more wary from the start...”]]

[[WMG: The Nopon Archsage from the DLC is Master Hand]]
* Technically a WMG for both ''VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1'' and ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'', but hear me out: what if Master Hand is an entity that can travel between dimensions the select fighters for each ''Smash'' game, but he takes different forms depending on where he is as a disguise. He's taking the appearance of a Nopon in the challenge arena so he doesn't unduly freak out Shulk and Rex. But what's his purpose there? He's looking for new fighters for ''Smash'', and he's basically calling Shulk, Rex, etc. for ''tryouts.''

[[WMG:[[spoiler:The Saviorite Rebels from Klaus's World were a Religious Group who were after the Conduit]]]]
* [[spoiler: Some basic fridge logic seems to imply the Saviorite rebels are actually a recently formed religious group, when the Conduit/Zohar first appeared to the humans on Earth at some point in the 21st century. I use the term "recently" because, with the existence of the Conduit/Zohar allowed mankind to make major scientific advancements, such as military weapons of mass destruction, like the Artifices, and the Core Crystals that were perceived to be a replacement for human brain cells. So therefore, the Saviorites must have been formed sometime after the United States (Who apparently created and owned the first Low Orbit Station according to the signs seen in the elevator room) came out to the world, and announced the newly discovered artifact. I imagine the Core Crystals were most likely only available to the rich and elite, as the Architect states the uses for them, saying "Core Crystals were first conceived as a replacement for human brain cells, a product of mankind's age-old quest for immortality." Something like that would be highly sought for among the upper class, but the poor wouldn't have been able to afford it, even in ten consecutive lifetimes. With the Saviorites seeing how the United States of America (and possibly the rest of the world) abuse the ‘gift’ their God bestowed upon them, it resulted in a world-wide war to take back the Conduit. The word SAVIOR-ite (God's chosen ones) makes the Architect's words "The Conduit is a gift from some divine entity", in the intro of chapter 10 make significantly more sense. During the flashback to the experiment, Klaus says to Galea "What’s the alternative? Do you just want to surrender this place to them?" The word "them" referring to the Saviorite Rebels, and their primary objective, which is to take the Conduit back.]]

[[WMG: The Tornan Titan is a Telethia]]
* The bright feathers on its wings [[spoiler:upon its activation in The Golden Country's climax]] might be a clue.

[[WMG: Some of Alrest's Blade technology ended up in [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword Hyrule]]...]]
* Where it was used by the Goddess Hylia to create Fi [[spoiler:(and by Demise to create Ghirahim)]]. The Master Sword is referred to as the "''[[ExactWords Blade]]'' of Evil's Bane," after all, and has more than a few powers in common with Blades in this game. Fi even appears to have a Core Crystal on her chest, just like Pyra and Mythra. As a bonus, ''Skyward Sword'' was the first Zelda game that Creator/MonolithSoft had a hand in developing, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for parts of one game to end up in another.

[[WMG: "Drifting Soul" is being sung from Jin's perspective]]
* It's admittedly a little bit puzzling as to why this song doesn't play in any scenes featuring Jin, but the melancholic, yet deterministic nature of the song could very well be a reflection of the way Jin views Lora, possibly as a last-ditch cry for help while his [[StrawNihilist morality and ideologies are skewed]].

[[WMG: Rex's first common blade is a reference to or supposed to be [[VideoGame/{{Xenogears}} Fei Fong Wong]].]]
* We have the protagonists (or [[{{Deuteragonist}} deuteragonists]] in [[VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} KOS-MOS]] and Fiora's cases) of every other ''Xeno'' game appearing in this one, but for [[ScrewedByTheLawyers obvious reasons]] Monolith couldn't directly put Fei in the game, so they did the next best thing; give Rex a common blade whose [[BareFistedMonk basic moveset]] matches what Fei-as-a-Blade would have been. Light would be a better fit than Wind for Not-Fei's element, but since common blades can't use Light due to Mythra's monopoly on it, Monolith went with Wind as the closest thing to it.

[[WMG: Mikhail is a {{closet gay}}[=-turned-=][[AmbiguouslyBi bisexual]].]]
* In Torna, Mikhail doesn't think much of people like Lora or Mythra once the village he was enslaved at being destroyed turns him into TheStoic, and the only person he's freely willing to open up to is Milton, the Gormotti boy who accompanies Addam. Meanwhile, in present-day, while Mikhail is a complete CasanovaWannabe for women, his Heart-to-Heart jokingly has him telling his Driver he wants to marry them, regardless of whether they're male or female, and even though he's joking, he's not ashamed to say something like that out loud. It's possible that Mikhail learned to appreciate women more as he grew up, and the only reason why he doesn't show interest in guys upfront is because [[spoiler:the death of Milton, the only boy he freely opened up to, caused him too much mental anguish to afford freely showing interest in guys anymore]].

[[WMG: The next Nintendo console will be [[spoiler:powered by a Slave Generator.]]]]
* [[spoiler: It was recently confirmed that Nintendo's next console will release in the year 20XX. We know this is the year that competitive [[VideoGame/{{SuperSmashBrosMelee}} Melee]] reaches its logical extreme, the original [[VideoGame/{{MegaManClassic}} Mega Man]] series takes place, and of course, the year the Salvator Rebels attack the Rhadamanthus Beanstalk. Considering the Slave Generator technology seems to be popularized at this point (the Artifices use it as a power source and the model of the Salvator ships indicate that they use it as one too) it wouldn't be a surprise that Nintendo would use one to make their hardware more powerful.]]

[[WMG:Everyone except Vess knows that her dumplings are rice balls.]]
No one has the heart to tell Vess that her dumplings are actually rice balls, so they just go along with it.
