Palpatine was strong enough in will that Plagueis couldn't take him over, and Sheev exists as a [[HiveQueen hive king]] of the MindHive. |

It could be that the Lars had radar to detect Sand People, and a well-concealed bunker. So perhaps those bodies belonged to Tusken Raiders that were taken out by an intruder-detection system, causing others to retaliate by burning the place. Or the stormtroopers did away with the Sand People themselves just to get them out of the way. Who knows, maybe there weren't any Imperial troops at the Lars place at all; otherwise, why would they have killed the Jawas and destroyed the crawler if they weren't co-operative? Note that the novelization says that the Jawa language was so variable that linguists gave up on it, so only Jawas could understand each other if they wished. Remember, Luke thought it was Sand People that torched the crawler, so they sure wouldn't be above doing the same to the Lars homestead. |

However because he was at least a healthy clone, [[CantKillYouStillNeedYou the Emperor couldn't get rid of him until he learned how to "improve" on him]]. Whether Dathan got the hell out of dodge before then or Palpatine died before he had his ideal vessel remains to be seen. |
