One of the last games developed for the Platform/Atari7800, ''Midnight Mutants'' features [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Lewis_(actor) Al Lewis]] as Grampa, a CaptainErsatz of in his most famous role as [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grandpa_(The_Munsters) Grandpa]] from the television series ''Series/TheMunsters''. It is perhaps the closest the 7800 would ever come to having a Zelda style action adventure game. Also of note is the game was never ported to any other platform, making it one of the 7800's only exclusive titles.

The game opens with a cutscene featuring the main villain, Dr. Evil ([[Film/AustinPowers No, not that one]]) being burned at the stake for witchcraft in 1792. Flash forward 200 years later on Halloween night he comes back from the death and puts Grampa into a pumpkin.

You now take on the role of young Jimmy Harkman in a quest to overthrow Dr. Evil and rescue Gramps presented in an isometric 3D presentation.

Midnight Mutants includes the following tropes.

* BurnTheWitch: Well, warlock technically, in the opening cutscene. He got better.
* CaptainErsatz: Al Lewis is in his Grandpa Munster makeup, but both box art and game label him as "Grampa" with an "m" instead of an "nd".
* CoversAlwaysLie: The game cover shows an Al Lewis with a pale, blue-tinged skin tone that closely resembles Grandpa from ''Series/TheMunsters'', but in the game Grampa has a more standard Caucasian skin tone.
* ObviouslyEvil: The main villain is Dr. Evil, who looks for all the world like the Christopher Lee Dracula. The game predates the Austin Powers movies by 6 years, so it isn't an allusion of any kind.
* PumpkinPerson: The zombies in the "plasmic pumpkin" patch have pumpkin heads which they fire as projectiles.
