Antarctic Adventure is a game developed by in which the player controls a penguin racing over the ice, jumping over ponds and crevices and collecting flags. It was first released for the in 1983, and subsequently ported to other systems. The Famicom/NES version was one of the first third-party releases for the platform (along with Yie Ar Kung-Fu, also from Konami).

The game got an MSX-only sequel called Penguin Adventure in 1986, which is also known for being supposedly the first game Creator/HideoKojima worked on while being employed by Konami. Another sequel was released titled VideoGame/YumePenguinMonogatari in 1991 for the Famicom.
----
!!Both games contain examples of the following tropes:
* AlliterativeTitle
* AntiPoopSocking: The criteria for the gold ending in Penguin Adventure requires you to pause the game a certain number of times during a single playthrough.
* DownerEnding: Fail to meet the criteria for the good ending in Penguin Adventure and the Penguin Princess will die before Penta can get the golden apple to her.
* EdibleCollectible: The penguin can eat the fish that jump out of holes for 300 points each. Averted in the sequel Penguin Adventure, where fish are used as currency instead.
* EndlessGame: After stage 10, the game starts in the first level again but with added obstacles.
* GameBreakingBug: The Famicom release of the game will not work properly if you have your Zapper (or indeed, just about anything else) hooked up to the expansion port of the Famicom, with Penta locked at a rather low speed. This means you'll need to deal with the bother of unplugging your Famicom BASIC Keyboard or Zapper each time you want to play this game, and plugging them back after.
* GuideDangIt: The criteria for getting the good ending in Penguin Adventure is not hinted anywhere in the game.
* PolarPenguins: How do you know it's an Antarctic Adventure? Because you're playing a penguin, of course.
* PublicDomainSoundtrack: "The Skaters' Waltz" composed in 1882 by Émile Waldteufel. It loops over and over again on every level.
* ScoringPoints: Points are gained by grabbing flags, fish and jumping over holes.
* SlippySlideyIceWorld: Takes place in the South Pole, with every level being ice levels.
* SuperSpeed: As WebVideo/WeirdVideoGames pointed out, if you work out Penta's speed from the distance meter, he travels at Mach 58!
* TimedMission: On Level 1 you have to travel 900 km in 70 seconds average speed of 46286 km/h, on Level 2 you have to travel 1,100 km in 90 seconds and so on, with various time, distances, and amount of turns and obstacles.
