Animal Inspector is a short indie game created by Tom Astle. There has been a governmental crisis where there are too many animals on Earth and they decided to get rid of them to make space. That's where the Animal Inspection Agency comes in. You take on the job to approve or reject the animals based on their usefulness. You took on the job however, to save your dog from being rejected. As you settle in your new job, you are joined by two co-workers Martha and Alan, along with an unnamed boss. Martha seems nervous about her job while Alan doesn't really care about it.

As mentioned, your goal is to approve or disapprove the animals based on how useful or nice the animal is. However, it's not that easy as your boss and coworkers tell you to do questionable things and the animals you must check may conflict on your morals. As you work through, things get a little weird around here...

Released around November 18, 2015 and it's free, though donations are accepted by the creator. You can find it [[https://tomastle.itch.io/animal-inspector here.]]

!!Join the Tropes Inspection Agency and do something about it!:
* DarkSecret: What might be an ordinary inspection [[spoiler: turns out to be an experiment set up by the boss to transfer human and animal brains to each other. This may be why Alan is acting so strange later in the game and also explains the purpose of the Cages.]]
* DevelopersForesight: The game really does track down everything you do when you assign your animals. Any screw-up you do, the boss will notice.
** If you type the same words repeatedly on the comments for each animals, the boss will ask you to vary your comments as each animals is special and needs unique comments.
** Forgetting to line up your papers (the feather duster icon operates this) and the boss will remind you next time.
** Typing in swears in the comments and the boss will tell you to watch your language.
** Typing in gibberish, make a spelling mistake or use incorrect grammar and the boss will call you out for being unprofessional and suggest you use real words.
** Stamp a form multiple times, the boss will call you out on this and say that ink isn't cheap.
* DisguisedHorrorStory: The game has bright colors, MS Paint drawings to give a simplistic children's book feel and the music sounds soothing. Seems like a relaxing game. However, the game is about accepting and rejecting animals based on usefulness. Then it goes downhill from here...[[spoiler: as Alan is secretly a dog in a human body, the true purpose of the Cages are revealed with one ending of you becoming their next experiment and one of the magazines at the intro implies the culling the animals may secretly a way to kill off animals]].
* EarnYourHappyEnding: If you do your job well, and don't irritate your boss too much, [[spoiler:the boss will agree to pull a few strings so your own dog will be approved, which was the reason your player character took the animal inspector job to begin with.]]
* IllPretendIDidntHearThat: The boss' response if you refuse to clean up your forms with a feather duster.
* IntellectualAnimal: Downplayed for one cat. He's at least smart enough to feed himself.
* KickTheDog: More like reject the dog. More cruel if would reject a "useless" one.
* KindHeartedCatLover: Martha is heavily implied to be this, being the only person who treats you nicely throughout the game. Her dialogues also frequently mention cats, she owns at least one cat [[spoiler:(coincidentally the one you will find in your stack on one of the work days)]], and her speech bubble is shaped like a cat's head.
* LoyalAnimalCompanion: The protagonist (you)'s dog describes his/her this and so are a few pets if the description tells us.
* MultipleEndings: To make up the short time (average playthrough is about 30 minutes), each ending is achieved depending on your actions such as following the boss' orders, saving certain animals or responding certain answers to some questions.
* PuppyDogEyes: Certain pictures of animals do this. Makes you feel guilty if you reject them.
* RuleofThree: Minus from warnings, the boss will give you three strikes if you don't do your job well. Get those, and it's game over.
* SadisticChoice: At one point, your boss will ask you to reject all of the animals in a stack, [[spoiler:but your co-worker Martha's cat is in that stack. If you reject the cat, Martha will be angry at you, but if you approve it, your boss will give you a strike]]. That said, [[spoiler:if you don't have any previous strikes against you, you're probably better off approving Martha's cat. The boss will give you a strike, but if that's your only one you can still get a happy ending later, as you only lose the game if you get three strikes.]]
* ThrowTheDogABone: If you come across any pets that the owners saying that they're "useless" or "bad", you can approve them, hinting them you are giving them a second chance.
* VideoGameCaringPotential: You can approve all the animals and even save ones that supposedly are useless. You may believe that they are still useful in some way. However, the trade-off being you may get a warning or even a strike.
** In one scene, [[spoiler: Your boss wants you to reject all animals in one stack. This stack contains Martha's Cat which she worries it might be rejected. If you approve it, Martha will thank you.]]
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: You can be a massive jerk to everyone and reject every animal in your stack.
** In general, typing mean and horrible comments to the animals. [[spoiler: Worse if it's Martha's cat or Alan.]]
** Martha says she's worried about her cat, hoping it wouldn't be rejected. [[spoiler: You can find her pet in one stack and reject it one the spot.]]
** In one stack, [[spoiler: Alan can be found in one stack. Rejecting Alan will send him to the Cages.]]
* VideoGameCrueltyPunishment: Doing anything from the above trope will result in this.
** Typing in swears and the boss will tell you to watch your language. First a warning and then a strike.
** [[spoiler: Rejecting Martha's cat or rejecting any cat without a good reason]] and Martha will hate you for this, to the point where she wouldn't even look at you.
