''Monster Dash'' is a 2010 iOS game created by Creator/HalfbrickStudios, later released on Android. The game also serves as a prequel to one of Halfbrick's previous games, ''VideoGame/AgeOfZombies'', thus being the second in the ''VideoGame/BarrySteakfries'' series.

The player joins Barry, as he's teleported to another universe full of [[OurMonstersAreDifferent monsters]]. Now, he must complete goals, blast through monsters, and travel [[EndlessRunningGame as far as he can]].

The game has went through three notably different versions:
* ''2010'' - The original, and the simpliest version. In 2023, the game was reverted back to this version and became a part of Halfbrick+ subscription service.
* ''2014'' - A revamped version by Six Foot Kid. Added missions, new soundtrack and leveling system, with old version being revamped into an Arcade mode.
* ''2020'' - Also known as ''Back From The Dead'', a remaster by Creator/KromeStudios. Featured overhauled graphics in style of ''VideoGame/BattleRacingStars'', new dialogue for Barry and costumes. Also introduced [[DistaffCounterpart Betty Beefpies]] to the series.

For simplicity, different versions are referred to by their years of release.

----
!! This game provides examples of:
* AchievementMockery: ''2010'' has an award system for doing something in the run. One of them is for falling in the very first pit is called "Concrete Shoes".
* AwesomeAussie: Since the game was given spoken dialogue in ''2020'', Barry has become this.
* CompanyCrossReferences:
** Fruit Ninja Blade is the sword from ''VideoGame/FruitNinja'', another Halfbrick game.
** In ''2020'', Yeti Heights features a parody of Mount Rushmore with presidents' faces being replaced by Barry, Sensei, {{WebAnimation/Dan|TheMan}}, and [[VideoGame/{{Raskulls}} The King]].
** Offline leaderboards in the ''2023'' version are populated with the names of various characters from Halfbrick games (and some developers), including various ninjas from ''Fruit Ninja'', [[VideoGame/RadicalRappelling Rip]], and [[VideoGame/BearsVsArt Rory]]. The list also includes Frank, Pierre, and Caroline -- characters from ''Yes, Chef!'' and ''Top Farm'', which were published by Halfbrick in mid-2010s.
* CoolBike: The Bad As Hog is one of the collectable weapons, which bowls over enemies.
* {{Crossover}}: With ''Franchise/{{Ghostbusters}}''. ''2014'' featured Peter Venkman as playable character, Slimer as new enemy, New York City background and Proton Pack. Unfortunately, it was completely removed in 2017, with Proton Pack being replaced with [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute Rainbow Cheeks]]. Crossover eventually returned in 2021, which brought back the Proton Pack (now renamed to "Particle Thrower"), added even more locations, enemies, new costumes and Slime Blower weapon.
* DoubleJump:
** Fruit Ninja Blade allows you to do this. Using the attack button in mid-air gives Barry small aerial boost. It can and will save you from falling into BottomlessPits, SpikesOfDoom and some of the monsters immune to a GoombaStomp.
** More straightforward way of double jumping was added in Halloween update for ''2020'', which also means players can do triple jumps with the aforementioned blade.
* EndlessRunningGame: The main game is endless. Alhough ''2014'' added many levels with a variety of goals, they all still have the aspect of running as far as you can.
* {{Fartillery}}: Some levels feature mummies that literally fart out poison gas clouds that you have to dodge.
* FloatingInABubble: Incredibubble, which gives temporary invisibility.
* GoombaStomp: Stomping the monsters is just as effective as shooting them in the face. However, ''2014'' and ''2020'' versions have variations of them that are immune to this.
* GroundPound: Ground Slam in ''2020'', performed by swiping down in mid-air, added during Halloween update.
* HaveANiceDeath: In ''2010'' version Barry will make some kind of a remark, similar to Sensei's Fruit Facts in ''VideoGame/FruitNinja''. Some of them depend on what player just lost to.
--> "Note to self: Next time there is a wall, don't jump into it!"
--> "That fortune teller sucks! There are no [[WeaponizedAnimal sharks with lasers]] involved in my demise!"
--> "You win this round, [The enemy Barry died from]. [[WeWillMeetAgain Next time we meet, you wont be so lucky]]."
--> "[[CatsHaveNineLives Why am I the cat with one life?]]"
--> "[[DeathIsASlapOnTheWrist It's time to start a re-run!]]"
* ICallItVera: Mr. Zappy, equipable LightningGun.
* InstantIceJustAddCold: Snowball Cannon immediately freezes monsters and walking past them in this state scores you a kill.
* LargeHam: From ''2020'', Barry now gives occasional one-liners during the run, with plenty of them being very hammy.
-->"TO THE MAX!"
* MartialArtsHeadband: Equipping Fruit Ninja Blade would give Barry a headband and gi. 2020's overhaul made it into a separate "Ninja" outfit and allowed to use with any weapon, likewise allowing to equip any other costume with the Blade.
* RecoilBoost: Machine Gun Jetpack, propelled by recoil alone.
* RPGElements: 2014's update introduced Leveling system, which makes you pay coins you collect in exchange for more health, Jackpot coins, Bad As Hog fuel and Machinegun Jetpack ammunition. Later update introduced Lucky Charms, the game's SocketedEquipment.
* RuleOfCool: The Bad As Hog comes with a shotgun which you can shoot while riding. While redundant as the bike already kills any enemy in its path, it's still awesome.[[note]]The most likely reason for this inclusion is the game's two-button control scheme. Since Hog's mechanics leave the action button with nothing to do, the shotgun was added in to fill the empty spot.[[/note]]
* SocketedEquipment: Lucky Charms were the equipable gems, up to 20 at a time. Depending on the ones selected, they would grant obstacle resistance (Preventing damage against any type of monsters, spikes, fire or poison), increase coin drop, or decrease acceleration speed.
* StrippedToTheBone: Barry's death animation, mostly consisting of several {{Stock Femur Bone}}s and a skull, before it was changed in 2021 to him falling into the portal.
