To cheer up the ponies of Ponyville, the player collects "smiles" which can be spent to buy new ponies, friendships, and events such as concerts and galas, all of which automatically give smiles at an accelerating rate. There isn't much narrative to the game, beyond the flavor text and the humorous "news" items.
