Wha-- of ''course'' you'd find {{Tsundere}} characters in anime, baka! It's from where the language itself came from! Do you even ''think''?!

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Harsh (Tsun)]]
* ''Manga/The100GirlfriendsWhoReallyReallyReallyReallyReallyLoveYou'':
** Karane is the typical harsh type, constantly lying about her feelings type (although she has a better control over her emotions than most tsunderes).
** Kurumi is very sweet-natured unless she's hungry -- unfortunately, due to her HyperactiveMetabolism, she's nearly always hungry, so she's nearly always harsh.
** Mai sees Rentarou as unworthy to be dating her colleague Mei, whom she considers her older sister despite not being blood relatives, but no matter how much she insists that she hates him, it's always apparent that she is in love with him.
** Chapter 144 introduces Karane's family, and ''each and every one of them'' is a tsundere. Karane's grandparents, her parents, her siblings, and her niece and nephew, the latter of whom is an infant, are all introduced in a two-page spread giving some variation of "It's not like we're glad to meet you or anything" upon meeting Rentarou. The volume extras also introduce us to the family's pet tsundere ''hamster''.
* ''Akkun to Kanojo'':
** The titular character Akkun is very tsun around his girlfriend. He acts aloof, calls her names, and appears disinterested in her. However, he thinks she’s adorable and gets flustered when they spend time together.
** Also Akkun's younger sister, Chiho. Unlike her brother, at the front of Non, she's always shows her dere, but hides her tsun. On the other hand, she appears to demonstrate a growing romantic attraction toward Akkun's friend, Matsuo, and to him she consistently shows only her tsun while fighting to hide her dere, though this becomes progressively harder to do.
** Non's father is the same way with her mother. He acts aloof and distant, but he actually loves his wife and also gets embarrassed when they're together. Non even notices the similarities in which her parents act around each other and compares it to her relationship with Akkun.
* ''Manga/{{Amatsuki}}'': Tsuyukusa is pretty much the epitome of an Tsundere; he becomes easily flustered when either Heihachi or Toki is involved, and has used pretty much every stock tsundere expression in the book at least once. Also, his relationship with Bonten strangely resembles that of a tsundere and JerkWithAHeartOfGold. Now that's when Tsuyukusa becomes all snarky, rude and flustered.
* ''Manga/AsteroidInLove'': Due to often seeming to have an unpleasant disposition, but actually being a nice person at heart, Mikage Sakurai has been described as a tsundere InUniverse. In this case, no romance in involved.
* ''Anime/BattleSpiritsShonenToppaBashin'' has several.
** Masako Inogashira, who not only will [[HeIsNotMyBoyfriend vehemently deny any affection]] towards her old flame, Card Sensei, is also one in a platonic sense with her own students. She very much wants to avoid BecomingTheMask, so tries to pretend she has no affection towards them. It doesn't work.
** [[ActionGirl Suiren]] is also one, of the aloof and pessimistic variety. She's much more partial to pounding someone in Battle Spirits, than admitting she's worried about them.
** StudentCouncilPresident Setsuko Kirishima is very harsh, prefering not to show her more caring side.
* ''Anime/BattleSpiritsSwordEyes'' has Haqua Estoc. He has trouble admitting to his crush on Kizakura, and also plays this role in a platonic way with the other Sword Eyes of Light, trying really hard to not be friends with them. Naturally, he's voiced by Creator/RieKugimiya.
* ''Manga/TheBeautifulSkiesOfHououHigh'' is ''Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub'' meets ''Manga/MariaHolic''. [[UnluckyChildhoodFriend Yui]] is very violent towards [[WholesomeCrossdresser Kei]] and often hits her, even as he's blushing and admitting his feelings. Notable in that he has trouble admitting even non-romantic feelings.
* ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'': Casca. At the beginning of the series, she wants nothing to do with Guts, won't even give him the time of day, and doesn't understand what the hell Griffith, who she has something of a thing for, [[WhatDoesSheSeeInHim sees in him]]. She's not too shy about the hostility either, even punching Guts at every opportunity. The deredere comes later on in the saga as the two of them learn more about each other's pasts and they get a bit closer, especially when Guts heroically protects her on the battlefield eventually they become lovers about the time that Griffith gets himself captured and put to the torture Casca even becomes very doting towards Guts sewing up his injuries herself and even becoming pregnant with his baby. And then [[FromBadToWorse the Eclipse goes down]].
* ''Manga/BlackCat'': Rinslet became a Harsh Tsundere in the anime. She is always negative about whatever Sven or Jenos says, frequently screaming things like "That won't work!" or "You idiot!" Unlike in the manga where she was dere about Train, in the anime, she has a few (very, very rare) instances where she is slightly dere towards Sven.
* ''Manga/BlackClover'': Noelle is the harsh-type "tsun-tsun". She keeps her dere side hidden very well, but her concern for her allies is clearly shown in spite of her high-and-lofty demeanor. [[spoiler:It gets taken up a notch when she begins to realize her feelings for Asta alongside Mimosa. She realizes her desperation at Mimosa crushing on Asta is jealousy, and then insists that she feels nothing for him.]]
* ''Manga/BlackLagoon'': Revy is a borderline psychotic version of this. When she's being angry and confrontational she's bad enough, but when she lapses into [[AxCrazy Whitman Fever]] during the Nazi arc, she's even ''worse''. She has even tried to ''shoot'' Rock on two different occasions during the first season, with her "dere-dere" side surfacing during the "Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise" arc from the second season (though there was that time she saved Rock at the end of the first season, something she swore she would never do). Other dere-dere moments include: inviting Rock to join the Lagoon Company at the end of Episode Two, the infamous "Cigarette Kiss" in Episode Seven, threatening to kill Gretel if she ever fucks with Rock again (hey, we did mention that Revy was [[AxCrazy psychotic]]?), and trying to stop Rock from watching [[spoiler:Yukio's]] suicide. She also smiles several times at Rock during the Yakuza Arc.
* ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'':
** Ichigo Kurosaki tries too come off as cold and tough, but deep down, he is very caring and protective of his loved ones.
** Rukia Kuchiki is usually outwardly rough and violent, but she has a weakness for cute things and acts deredere around Ichigo's family and schoolmates. Deep down, she is very caring of all her friends.
** Lisa Yadomaru in appears to be one of these. Specially towards her ex-leader, [[spoiler:Shunsui]], whom she rushes towards when he's laying injured on the ground... and then promptly kicks on the head for pretending to be almost dead.
** Momo Hinamori's Zanpakutou spirit Tobiume seems to be a bit of a {{Tsundere}}. Most of the time she's self-assured, tends to argue with her pal Haineko, and insults Momo over her obsession with Aizen. When she's alone, however, she is fiercely defendant over Haineko's insults over Momo, and proceeds her dere-dere mode.
** Also applicable to Jinta in his relationship to Yuzu, Ichigo's sister. He's more the awkward type and usually doesn't know how to act in her presence.
** Uryu Ishida constantly claims that he has ulterior motives for helping Ichigo or that he was [[IWasJustPassingThrough just passing through]]. After the [[spoiler:TimeSkip]], this becomes such an obvious excuse that he stops even bothering to make it.
** Soifon has a reputation within Soul Society for being the harsh, cold captain of the second division. However, whenever she's in the presence of anything that even ''resembles'' Yoruichi, she turns into little more than a gushing fangirl.
** We also have [[DrillSergeantNasty Kensei]] [[TheBigGuy Muguruma]], who spends most of his time yelling and scowling, but he also saves Hisagi from a Hollow as a child, and there's his ShipTease with Mashiro.
* In ''Manga/BlueExorcist'', Izumo Kamiki is harsh and arrogant, looking down on her classmates. At the start, she only treats her friend Paku nicely and dismisses others' attempts to get closer to her, but she gradually softens and becomes more helpful, especially to Rin and Shiemi.
-->'''Izumo''': I hate you! But... thanks anyway...
* ''Manga/BlueSeed'': Gun girl Koume Sawaguchi: the dere side only comes out in the final few episodes when she's alone with her {{Love Interest|s}}.
* In ''Manga/BoardingSchoolJuliet'', Aby snaps at his [[AmusingInjuries overzealous]] best friend, "Who would fall in love with an idiot like you!" Based on what happens 14 chapters later, the only answer one could give is: "You".
* ''Manga/BoysOverFlowers'': Tsukushi is this to Tsukasa, thanks mainly to Tsukasa's initial {{Jerkass}} behavior toward her. She even [[LoveAtFirstPunch kicks him in the face on one of their first meetings]]!
* In ''Manga/Brave10'', this seems to be an Unno family trait. Rokuro's sharp-tongued and quick-tempered, but occasionally Yukimura catches him off-guard with unexpected praise, which gives rise to brief moments of deredere. Nanakuma is arrogant and haughty, but is covering up an [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex inferiority complex]] and acts like a dog wanting praise around his master, Nobuyuki.
* ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'':
** Li Syaoran is grumpy and tsuntsun towards lots of people, but goes '''''very''''' deredere and red-faced in front of Yukito and later, Sakura.
** Chiharu Mihara alternates between slapping her crush Yamazaki around for his outrageous lies or acting very sweet and awkward when they're in private... only to slap him again when he [[ObliviousToLove completely misses the point of her advances]].
** [[TheStoic Yue]] turns out to be this way towards Sakura. Due to his stubborn UndyingLoyalty towards his first master Clow Reed, he's got issues coming to terms with the fact he's come to care about Sakura enough to accept her as his new master.
--->'''Yukito''': (to Sakura) [Yue] says he's very worried about you.\
'''Yue''': ...I didn't say "[[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial very]]."
** Touya acts like an non-romantic Tsundere towards Sakura. He [[BigBrotherBully loves to tease her]] and doesn't openly show her affection, but is [[BigBrotherInstinct always watching out for her without letting her know]] and won't forgive anyone who even tries to harm her.
* ''Manga/CaseClosed'':
** Kazuha Touyama, thanks to her [[BelligerentSexualTension constant bickering]] with Heiji.
** [[OlderThanTheyLook Ai Haibara]] is accused of being one in a joke by Professor Agasa, who is talking to Conan at the end of Chapter 825.
---> Conan: What part of any of that is 'dere'?
* Asa from ''Manga/ChainsawMan'' was a SourOutsideSadInside loner who ends up falling for IdiotHero Denji as a result of UptightLovesWild. Her first reaction is an outraged and indignant "Excuse me?" while flushing with embarrassment when [[SymbioticPossession Yoru]] reads her mind and determines that she's developed a crush on Denji. Amazingly enough, in the very next chapter she starts acting cold and cranky with Denji in a splitting image of classic tsundere behavior, all on the ''assumption'' that he doesn't actually love her back. She only succeeds at speeding up their date and letting him take her to his house.
* ''Manga/CheekyAngel'': Megumi is deredere towards girls (especially Miki) but usually tsuntsun towards guys, most notably Genzo. This is probably because she used to be male.[[spoiler:Although she was never male at all. Even when she knows this and she kisses Genzo in the last volume she acts rather tsuntsun with him and insists on behaving that way even at the end]].
* ''Manga/CityHunter'': Kaori Makimura is a pretty classic Harsh type, with her wrath most often triggered by Ryo's [[ChivalrousPervert mokkori]] ways. [[HyperspaceMallet Expect hammers labeled "100 tons" or "National Shame"]] to follow. But if Ryo does anything affectionate towards her, blushing ensues.
* ''Anime/CodeGeass'':
** Kallen Stadtfeld/Karen Kouzuki. Tough and badass ActionGirl at one moment, sweet and vulnerable at the other. At first she thinks Lelouch is an arrogant {{Jerkass}}, but [[LovesMyAlterEgo adores his alter ego Zero as a brave freedom fighter]]. After learning his identity, it takes her a while to get adjusted to the concept, but eventually she ends up falling for the man behind the mask. Illustrated perfectly in an official comic that shows Kallen reacting to Lelouch and Zero doing the exact same thing (slashing [[StudentCouncilPresident Milly]][=/=][[TheFool Tamaki]]'s expense accounts for frivolous spending) by calling Lelouch a tightwad and reverently admiring Zero for being meticulous.
** Lelouch himself qualifies as a male example. Normally he's a snarky MagnificentBastard who calls concepts such as "justice" and "honor" jokes (though typically as part of a facade) and talks down to most people. Despite this, he goes out of his way to protect and look after those close to him, even his best friend-turned-[[TheRival rival]] and his MysteriousWaif partner with a SugarAndIcePersonality and frequent rival in snark.
* ''Anime/CowboyBebop'': Faye Valentine starts the series as an angry con artist who continually cheats and insults the people around her. But for most of the series she is a Harsh Tsundere as her tough veneer is punctuated by moments of childlike openness.
* ''Manga/CrimsonSpell'': Halvir Hroptr is an InsufferableGenius with very little consideration for other people. He ''dere''s only for Prince Vald (himself a Sweet type provoked into ''tsun'' behavior by Havi's {{Jerkass}} behavior).
* ''Manga/CroiseeInAForeignLabyrinth'': Claude Claudel has enough {{Berserk Button}}s to fluster him often, but he does have his tender moments with Yune, and with [[ChildhoodFriends Camille]] as a child.
* ''Manga/CrossGame'': Aoba is a tough and somewhat tomboyish {{Tsundere}}. Most of the plot focuses on her [[DefrostingIceQueen shift to Sweet]] over more than six years.
* [[SmallGirlBigGun Rebecca]] in ''Anime/CyberpunkEdgerunners'' is aggressive and insulting to the rest of Maine's crew, especially to her brother, but she does care about all of them no matter how much she denies it. TheProtagonist David's [[HopelessSuitor the one person she acts sweet towards]], with the worst he gets usually being AngerBornOfWorry.
* ''Manga/DearBrother'': Mariko Shinobu starts as a ClingyJealousGirl {{Yandere}} for Nanako. After some episodes where [[spoiler:she almost commits a MurderSuicide with Nanako and then goes [[ImNotHungry on a hunger strike]]]], she becomes more of a ClingyJealousGirl Harsh {{Tsundere}} for Nanako, Kaoru, ''and'' later [[spoiler:Takeshi]].
* In ''Manga/DemonSlayerKimetsuNoYaiba'', Tanjiro’s crow of all things. It always acts bossy towards Tanjiro, even pecking him a lot, and sees Tanjiro as his subordinate; but it will not tolerate other crows not showing proper respect towards Tanjiro, as seen when Muichirou's crow thought Tanjiro was a lesser demon slayer and his crow immediately picked an argument with her.
* The song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JjqyJm198c "Not so Fast, Sexy Girl"]] featured as an SD video clip on the ''Anime/DevilHunterYohko'' music video collection, starts of as a slow-paced ballad describing a sexy girl. A guy makes a move on her, she just shrugs her shoulders and smiles... and then, the music suddenly switches to rock as she decides to kick him in the crotch. Yes, even the ''tune'' is tsundere.
* ''Franchise/{{Digimon}}'':
** Yamato "Matt" Ishida from ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' and ''Anime/DigimonAdventure02'' is a male example. This is confirmed by his voice actor, Creator/YuutoKazama, and Gabumon's voice actress, Creator/MayumiYamaguchi, in an interview included with the Japanese DVD boxset of the series.
--->'''YK''': He's the type that can't express friendship very well. It's hard for him to just come out and say things like thank you.\
'''MY''': He's tsundere.\
'''YK''': Yeah, that's the word we use now to describe people like him. (laughs)
** Rika Nonaka from ''Anime/DigimonTamers'' starts off as an apparent {{Jerkass}} (her "tsun" side), but through the wonders of CharacterDevelopment, we eventually see that she ''does'', in fact, have a "dere" side, shown now and then in her interactions with [[TheHero Takato]]. She actually gives a textbook example near their return to the Real World, when she learns Takato has sent an e-mail to her parents for her, going from mad that he did it in the first place, to embarrassed and appreciative, only to whiplash right back to furious when she learns he stuck hearts and smiley faces in the text.
** Jellymon in ''Anime/DigimonGhostGame'' is this towards her partner Kiyoshiro as she [[{{troll}} messes with]] and berates him, but does care for him and calls him "darling".
* In ''Manga/TheDisastrousLifeOfSaikiK,'' it's done to the extreme by Saiki's ''grandfather,'' of all people. He acts cold, stern, indifferent, and even annoyed towards his family when they visit, then shows the audience how completely overjoyed he is just to have them nearby after he leaves the room, in a way that's obviously meant to parody your typical anime's young girl tsundere. It's (thankfully) completely non-romantic, but that doesn't stop him from squealing and blushing like a schoolgirl at simply brushing past his grandson. Much of his inner monologue is him trying to get himself to confess how he really feels to them, then getting angry at himself for failing to do so.
* Akina, title character of ''Manga/DontBecomeAnOtakuShinozakiSan'', tends to be tsundere towards herself more than anybody. She frequently invoking the Tsundere catch phrase of "It's not like I wanted this or anything" when justifying her developing otaku habits.
--> '''Akina''': ''(regarding her newly purchased book about seducing otaku girls)'' It's not like I wanted this book or anything!\
'''Narration''': She stayed up all night reading it.
* ''Franchise/DragonBall'':
** [=ChiChi=], Goku's VictoriousChildhoodFriend. Originally, [=ChiChi=] is more the Sweet type, prim and proper while having a massive crush on Goku. She would only lash out at Goku when he was rude or did something stupid. After ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' rolls around though, she becomes more Harsh. She then went back to her more sweet personality after the Cell Games.
** Also, Launch in ''Manga/DragonBall''. This is due to a physical split personality disorder, where sneezing would cause her to shift personalities. Dere-dere side is sweet and has blue hair, tsuntsun side is a trigger-happy blonde (unless she's near to Tien, where she acts more deredere)
** Also Videl at the end of ''Anime/DragonBallZ'' and, to a lesser extent, Android #18 after she marries Krillin. More specifically, Videl is always in tsun-tsun mode with Gohan before blackmailing him into training her. Later on, she showed her dere-dere side as she began to develop feelings for Gohan. After marrying Gohan and having Pan, she displays no tsun-tsun traits. Recent depictions of her also show her as much more mellow around everyone but being annoyed or embarrassed by her father's antics.
** Bulma is also somewhat of a tsundere, especially in ''Dragon Ball'', especially when it comes to Yamcha who she's either flirting with or yelling at in the span of the same chapter, but seemed to have mellowed over time.
** Vegeta and other CantCatchUp shonen staple types are proto-tsunderes. "Don't be mistaken, it wasn't my intention to save you. [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou I'm the only one allowed to beat you, Kakarot]]!"
* ''Manga/DungeonFriendsForever'': Ryuuka is quick to vehemently deny any romantic feeling whatsoever for Van, but regularly is shown becoming jealous when he interacts with other girls or blushing at fond memories of their times together, only to vehemently deny doing any such thing. Harpy-san outright calls her a tsundere in chapter 9. In chapter 21, when flat out asked to confirm whether or not there's a boy she likes, Ryuuka denies it in such a half-hearted, wishy-washy, dere-ish way that ''everyone''' except the boy himself, realizes she ''totally'' has a boy she likes.
* The titular “villainess” of ''[[Literature/EndoAndKobayashiLive Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte.]]'' She’s ''so'' far on the harsh side that she has her {{Love Interest|s}} Sieg convinced that she absolutely detests him. She’s even self-aware of the strangeness of her behavior, having several “Why am I like this?!”-type scenes. This leads to her DemonicPossession and death in most of the game routes. It takes “divine intervention” (actually the protagonists speaking through the fourth wall) to get Sieg to recognize the concept of a “tsun de raix” and understand Liese better and try to save her.
* ''Manga/FairyTail'':
** [[MagicKnight Erza]]. With a PlayedForLaughs reputation as TheDreaded and Natsu and Grey terrified of her, she tends to run their team with an iron-clad fist (literally and figuratively), as well as taking things humorously seriously, and admitting to being far more comfortable in armour. However, she has her moments of lightening up and even {{Squee}}.
** "Charle" (or "Carla" as Crunchyroll prefers to call her) is this way towards (mostly) anyone who isn't Wendy. She's haughty, abrasive and has a no-nonsense attitude, especially the "he-cat"[[note]]as she derisively calls him [[/note]] Happy[[note]]ironic considering that Happy (a non-tsundere) is voiced by none other than Creator/RieKugimiya, who is well known for her tsundere roles.[[/note]]. It takes TheReveal about her past for her to mellow out.
** Highlighted by Sherry and Ren in chapter 165, they have obvious crushes on each other... but they're ''both'' tsunderes, and both trying to act like they don't care they'll have to part.
* In the manga ''Flag Capture in the First Move'', one of the four-page chapters has a tsundere mockingly ask if her classmate will be alone for the holidays. He then responds that he won't, which catches her off guard and she panics. Realizing she missed her shot, she then wishes him luck and hopes he'll be happy. He then proclaims he is actually talking about her. She bursts into tears and hugs him, demanding he not let her be bored while she cries into his chest.
* ''Manga/FoodWars'':
** Erina Nakiri is a textbook Harsh type. She has a lot of pride in general, which keeps her openly expressing a lot of her emotions apart from disdain or anger. The only person she openly admits she likes is her assistant/best friend Hisako, [[NoSocialSkills and she finds it hard to relate to other people]]. She often [[ClashingCousins butts heads with her cousin]] Alice despite her being possibly the closest person to her after Hisako. While at first she takes to hate Soma for petty and irrational motives, she gradually grows to respect him after she sees how hard he works despite coming from humble origins (though the revelation of him being the son of her idol definitely helped), and later it becomes obvious that she loves Soma's cooking and later, becomes attached and attracted to Soma himself, but her stubborn pride will never let her admit it in anything other than inner monologue. It's even lampshaded in the final chapter by Soma, who believes she will remain like that for years.
** Ikumi Mito, aka Nikumi [[TheLadette had a bold and aggressive personality]], but her defeat at Soma's hands reveals that deep down she would like to be more feminine. And no matter how much she denies being attracted to Soma, or how often she yells that she doesn't care about the Don RS, she quickly embraces the donburi style, and is usually one of the first to offer help or support for Soma in whatever he asks of her.
** Nene Kinokuni, particularly in regards to Satoshi Isshiki. They were rather close as children, but Nene became envious that Isshiki was able to [[InstantExpert take so easily]] to the arts and crafts that [[HardWorkHardlyWorks she took years of hard work to master]]. During Isshiki's match with Tsukasa, he reveals to her that she was his inspiration for his love of cooking (at a time where he was at odds with his own family and on the verge of giving up on it), an admission that deeply touches her to the point of tears. When he loses the match and notices how intently she's looking at him, she fervently denies any concern she has over him.
* ''Manga/FruitsBasket'':
** Kyo Sohma is a male Harsh type, as shown in his interactions with Tohru. He starts out being grumpy with her, but then he will try to be nice, while being embarrassed about it. Or else he'll do something nice but deliver it in a grumpy manner; a good example of this is [[ThroughHisStomach when he serves her leek porridge]] ([[PickyEater his most loathed food]]) when she's sick.
** There's also a subversion in regards to [[spoiler:Akito Sohma]]. She was ''starting'' to shape up as a Harsh Tsundere, according to [[spoiler:Yuki]]'s testimony (he remembers her yelling at him, then stopping herself and calmly picking up a bowl she had thrown), but at some point [[BreakTheCutie she completely lost it]] (read: [[spoiler:the psychological abuse coming from her mother Ren got to her head]]) and everything got worse. [[spoiler:She actually became a mix of {{Yandere}}, ManipulativeBitch and BrokenBird, and it would take her many years and a ''massive'' BreakTheHaughty to even start to get better]].
* Lan Fan from ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist''. Tsun to those who insult her BodyguardCrush, dere to said crush Ling Yao. She's also pretty insecure without her mask.
* ''Manga/FullMoon'': Takuto Kira is probably the best example of the male Harsh tsundere, having all the traits of your average tsundere characters, showing all the tsuntsun traits 1 through 3, yet shows a very deredere side mostly through physical actions of kindness. He is prone to blushing and changing the subject whenever given a compliment or a "thank-you," especially from Mitsuki, the girl of his affections. His tsun-tsun side gradually fades to the more dere-dere side, especially towards the end of both the manga and the anime.
* A non-romantic ([[HoYay we think]]) version in ''Manga/GameXRush'': Memori is this towards Yuuki, complete with for-the-lulz physical violence, blushing, and "I'm not doing this for you." Yuuki occasionally displays this towards Memori, as when Memori 'fell asleep on guard duty' to let Yuuki leave the hospital; Sayako sometimes displays this towards both boys, blushing and reprimanding them for failing to treat her as their boss (which she technically isn't).
* Mika Seido in ''Anime/{{Geneshaft}}''. Throughout the series she yells at pretty much everyone at one time or another especially when [[spoiler:her captain Hiroto Amagiwa, whom she held personally responsible for the death of her friend, going so far as to punch him in the first episode. However, she's the only one who is always by his bed when he's greatly injured, although claiming it's a ''TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou'']].
* ''Manga/GetBackers'': Ban Mido is extremely ''tsun-tsun''. His ''dere'' is revealed only to his HeterosexualLifePartner Ginji, his Not-Quite Little Sister Himiko, and very very rarely to a couple of other characters...if they do something extremely heartwarming and/or heartbreaking.
* Kirie in ''Manga/GirlsBravo'', who is also his PatientChildhoodLoveInterest. Particularly weird as she may be partly the reason Yukinari is afraid of girls.
* ''Manga/{{Gravitation}}'': Reiji (nicknamed "Rage") is an amazing example, going from shooting Shuichi with a bazooka to declaring her love for him ''all on the same page''.
* ''Anime/HanasakuIroha'': Minko is exceedingly ''tsun'', but towards everyone '''other than''' her love interest: [[IgnoredEnamoredUnderling her mentor]] Tooru. She particularly takes it out on her [[YouNeverDidThatForMe perceived competition]], Ohana, coming to call her "balut" (a [[UsefulNotes/{{Vietnam}} Vietnamese]] street food that consists of chicken embryo boiled within its egg).
* ''Manga/HanaukyoMaidTeam'' ''La Verite''. Ryuuka is harsh and insulting to her intended husband Taro most of the time (e.g. calling him "midget"), but will on rare occasions shows her attraction and liking for him.
* Nagi Sanzen'in of ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'', who loves to use Hayate Ayasaki as her living cosplay doll (as in the WholesomeCrossdresser variety), complete with an excuse that Hayate is her butler, only to gush in private over her assumption that he dotes on her.
* ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'''s very own Integra in the Manga acts highly Tsundere upon the portions of the story that isn't about gore and war, flinging BAKA and URUSAI at Alucard when he pushes her buttons. Or when Seras brings up something that embarrasses her around Alucard or ''about'' Alucard at the end.
** Seras acts like this too towards Pip Bernadotte, dodging his kisses and only respecting him as a superior, [[spoiler:until he saves her from Zorin Blitz and is dying and manages to kiss her fully and she soon gives into the kiss and drinks his blood to [[SuperForm power up]] and has Pip live inside her always as a familiar]].
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'' has ''several'' characters that fit this character type:
** England is the embodiment of this trope. He's heavy on smirking, [[HoYay especially when around France]]. When he's in deredere mode, though, he sometimes shows such vulnerability that he qualifies as TheWoobie.
--->'''England''': D-Don't get the wrong idea, though! I'm just counting because if you don't go to sleep, I can't go home. I'm not doing it for you, or anything...
** Switzerland is a combination of this and [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend He Was Never My Heterosexual Life Partner]] to Austria. TheGunslinger is especially fond of The Violent Approach (duh). As for the dere part, just catch him when together with [[BigBrotherMentor his little sister]] [[MoralityPet Liechtenstein]].
** [[WordOfGod Himaruya]] actually calls Germany a Tsundere [[AllThereInTheManual in the notes]]. He seems to be Harsh and fond of a mix between Cold Shoulder and Smirk (less about merely throwing insults around or having mood swings, more about being grumpy and a DrillSergeantNasty to Italy). He's usually a 'take no guff' guy around everybody, but you can just tell he's making exceptions for Italy. To hammer on the point, the Valentines strip has Germany going pretty much into full-blown deredere mode.
** South Italy is a fierce mix of ''all'' Harsh varieties, partially out of insecurity that Spain only wants him for his inheritance, and partially because he's not a good cook/housekeeper like his younger brother. And yep, Romano's Tsundere side is specially strong [[HoYay when around Spain]].
** Wy was one toward Sealand in ''Manga/{{Hetaween 2011}}'', insisting that it was a "coincidence" that she is wearing the dress he told her to wear. Lampshaded by Seborga, who commented that she must have been influenced by England (mentioned above).
** Molossia. He flips Sealand, Seborga and Wy off when they ask him to be their new friend, but '''runs''' back to join them as soon as they leave. He also shows signs of being very self-conscious about letting [[NiceGuy his other side]] being seen.
** According to WordOfGod, [[TheBigGuy The Netherlands]] is also a Tsundere, his Tsun-tsun especially strong around Spain. His Dere-dere side can be seen when he's interacting with Isolationist!Japan, and there are a few hints of his softer side when around his little sister, [[PerpetualSmiler Belgium]].
** Ladonia is at first hostile to the other micronations, looking down on them and proclaiming that he'd never be friends with them. He changes his tune when Sealand says he likes him and calls him "interesting," and is later shown to have joined their group. He's had friendly moments with Sealand, no matter how much he seems to outwardly dislike him.
** Czech Republic, after she and her former partner Slovakia separate, proclaims how happy she is now that she doesn't have to "listen to his prattling," only for her to muse that "it's not like he doesn't have good traits" when she's alone. She only admits to missing him in a roundabout way.
* ''Manga/HidamariSketch'': Natsume, Sae's UnknownRival, keeps going up to Sae as if trying to pick a fight, then runs off flustered for some reason. Her actions are enough to identify her as a schoolgirl lesbian.
* ''Manga/HonooNoAlpenRose'': While Johann is enamoured with Liesl, she's less willing to admit her feelings for him, and prone to getting angry at him. However, after the train incident, she's more outspoken about her love for him.
* ''Manga/{{Hyakunichikan}}'': Chiho's friend Kanami is one with a PrecociousCrush on Shuuto, getting jealous when the other girls play with him.
* ''Manga/ICantUnderstandWhatMyHusbandIsSaying'': Rino Juse used to be a Tsundere back in college (she is even voiced by Creator/RieKugimiya), but she mellowed out considerably by the present day.
* Nagisa in the manga ''Manga/IfISeeYouInMyDreams'' is Tsundere all the way, her tsun-tsun side suffered by her suitors (specially Masao Fuguno) and her dere-dere exposed to her first love (in the manga) or when Fuguno is genuinely honest with her.
* ''Manga/IketeruFutari'': Akira Koizumi is usually violently Tsundere towards her "boyfriend" Saji Keisuke. Since Saji is a completely over-the-top idiotic pervert this is initially understandable, but she softens up a lot as she comes to appreciate how much he loves her for who she really is, since she's actually quite a lonely girl. He's also apparently pretty good in bed.
* ''Manga/IkkiTousen'': Ryoumou Shimei starts as a SociopathicHero with {{Yandere}} traits, but slowly mellows out as she befriends main character Sonsaku Hakufu and gets into a SlapSlapKiss dynamics (only darker) with the local HandsomeLech, Saji Genpou.
* ''Manga/{{Inumimi}}'': Emina Kusunoki. Let's just say she does ''not'' take lightly the fact that Yuichiro [[SleepCute Sleeps Cute]] with his dogs-turned-human.
* ''Manga/{{Inuyasha}}'':
** Inuyasha is a good example of a male Harsh type. Kinda [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold jerk-ish]] and rather [[BrutalHonesty blunt]], but he also has his moments where he shows genuine concern for his companions, especially Kagome. His consideration remains clumsy but heartfelt.
** The BigBad Naraku is this towards Kikyo. He can't seem to decide whether he wants to kill Kikyo or be with her, though the latter he keeps under wraps most of the time.
* ''Anime/IrresponsibleCaptainTylor'': Yuriko Star is a rare example of a Tsundere whose behavior is due to ''environment'' rather than nature or issues; being as much the StraightMan (well, [[GenderFlip Straight Woman]]) as Yamamoto, yet lacking his reluctance to physically assault a superior officer, it's only natural she acts the way she does around an irritating, flirtatious goofball like Tylor. She's debatably the ''healthier'' one of the two -- poor Yamamoto essentially ends up an addict to tranquilizers and something called a "neuro-cleanser" for quite a while.
* Caesar Zeppeli from ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventureBattleTendency JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency]]'' is a male version of this. He [[https://i.imgur.com/zrCcXHV.png cares deeply about Joseph]] but will always insult him if he's about to notice. It's also very easy to read the [[HomoeroticSubtext subtext]] as implying him to be in love with Joseph.
* ''Manga/JunjouRomantica'' has Hiroki Kamijou who has a huge temper (he likes to throw things at his students) and often flips out over the idea of doing cutsey couple things with his boyfriend Nowaki, especially PDA type stuff. However, his boyfriend seems to think such behavior is cute.
* ''Franchise/KagerouProject'':
** Takane Enomoto is a class-A grump and has a FriendlessBackground, due in part to her illness -- which wrecks her sleep cycle, and therefore her mood. She's shown to be quick to anger with everyone ([[spoiler:except Ayano]]), but has a buttery HiddenHeartOfGold for her love interest Haruka... not that she'll ever tell him. [[spoiler:Especially since they're both technically dead and resurrected -- [[IdentityAmnesia and Haruka is missing his memories]]]].
** Azami. After [[SternChase being chased and attacked by humans for an unspecified amount of time]], she eventually gave up on people and resigned herself to a vow of silence and isolation in a small forest. Understandably, she's annoyed when a human appears and insists on staying with her. Between insulting and threatening him to try and make him go away, she eventually realised that she had fallen for the young man. [[spoiler:[[InterspeciesRomance Their union produced Shion, Mary's mother]]]].
* ''Manga/KaijuNumber8'':
** [[ChildProdigy Kikoru Shinomiya]] has clearly developed a PrecociousCrush on Kafka, but her pride causes her to be dismissive of his compliments and affections no matter how obvious it is that she enjoys them.
** Reno Ishikawa also counts as a tsundere himself. While he tends to be blunt, he does really care for the well being of others and shows gratitude for those who have helped him, Kafka being one of the people he's come to respect. In fact, he even acts like a traditional tsundere when he denies caring if Kafka goes through with trying to join the Corps again after encouraging him.
** Mina Ashiro, as well. It becomes especially blatant after Kafka finally manages to join the Corps that her stoic aloofness towards him is obviously more out of professional discipline than any real malice.
* ''Anime/KaleidoStar'': May Wong mixes this with SpoiledBrat and some traits of TheAce. Mid-way through the second season, though, [[spoiler:she's [[BreakTheHaughty brutally]] BroughtDownToNormal, gradually learning to embrace her deredere side]].
* ''Manga/KamisamaKiss'': Tomoe is a sarcastic asshole towards everybody else 90% of the time but there are several moments were he shows that he really does care for them and that he can be kind when he wants to. Nanami, Tomoe's opposite number is a female Sweet type; normally she is very sweet and caring, but piss her off and the claws will come out.
* ''Manga/{{Karneval}}'': Gareki is a Harsh male version, especially when Yogi teases him. In fact, both Yogi and Tsukumo are awestruck at his surprising [[strike:deredereness]] innocence regarding snow (which he had never seen) at one point in the manga.
* ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple'':
** Kisara Nanjou is an aggressive ActionGirl who practices martial arts, enjoys humiliating her opponents, and one of her major {{Berserk Button}}s is being looked down as weak because she's a girl. Her ''dere'' side tends to [[CutenessProximity come out only]] [[KindheartedCatLover when in the presence of a cat]], and more rarely with her {{Love Interest|s}} Ukita (and even he doesn't get spared from being beaten up by her when she gets mad).
** Natsu Tanimoto, aka Hermit, might count as a male example. He puts up a front so everyone in school believes he's kind and soft-spoken, and everyone not in their inner circles believes he and Kenichi are close friends. While Kenichi does consider him a friend, Natsu remains in denial and constantly mutters that he's gonna kill him one day, despite the numerous time he's come to his aid one way or another [[IWasJustPassingThrough and making]] [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou unbelievable excuses]].
* In ''VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters'' manga and games ''[=KoF=]: KYO'' by Masato Natsumoto, which centers specifically around Kyo Kusanagi's story, Kyo's girlfriend Yuki is re-written as a Sweet Tsundere who can alternate between being genuinely kind to her friends (specially Athena and Shingo), hitting Kyo with schoolbooks for being LateForSchool before smiling sweetly at him, yelling at Iori Yagami for wreacking havoc and [[SheCleansUpNicely dress up very cutely]] for an arranged date with a DoggedNiceGuy...
* {{Deconstructed|trope}} in ''Manga/KotouraSan''. For most of the anime Haruka's mother Kumiko has been very harsh towards Haruka (who the former has [[IHaveNoSon disowned]] for a decade). It is only at the last episode that, after some [[{{telepathy}} mind-reading]], that Haruka noticed Kumiko treated her disowning Haruka--which is also ''very'' [[BreakTheCutie traumatizing]] for Haruka--as [[MyGreatestFailure Her Greatest Failure]].
* ''Manga/{{Lady}}'': Sarah starts as a non-romantic Type A to Lynn, who's just arrived to England. Lynn tries to befriend her, but Sarah ignores her and refuses to acknowledge her as a sister. This just ends up making both sisters miserable - Lynn feels left out by everyone at her new home, and Sarah is reminded that she's not an only child anymore and Lynn can do things she can't because of her illness.
* In ''Manga/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast2005'', Ghanti starts out as a minor antagonist, but begrudgingly finds herself developing feelings for Link.
* ''Manga/LoveHina'':
** Naru Narusegawa is so violent that she's famous for her "[[MegatonPunch Naru punch]]." She's so overly violent that it's almost impossible for her character to even come to terms with the fact that she has a crush and eventual love of Keitaro. Even after she accepts it, she still turns violent at the [[AccidentalPervert drop of a hat]] without giving Keitaro a chance to explain himself. As a contrast, in the manga she is still very hot-tempered, but shows a more sympathetic character development.
** Motoko Aoyama followed down the same road, going from beating up Keitaro because he gets in her way to beating up Keitaro because she doesn't know how to deal with her growing feelings for him.
* ''Manga/LuckyStar'': Kagami Hiiragi is outright designated as one by [[OtakuSurrogate Konata]], complete with the explanation that it's appropriate for twintails. This reference is probably due to the prevalence of tsundere with GirlishPigtails at a time when the term started to come into general usage. However, Kagami's ''dere'' side isn't actually focused on romantic feelings but more on her loneliness; despite her sarcastic outer demeanor, she cares about her friendships with the other main characters more than she'd like to admit and is secretly disappointed that she's never in the same homeroom class as them. The ''[[ShowWithinAShow Lucky Channel]]'' segment of the anime even includes Creator/MinoruShiraishi giving an extended [[YouKeepUsingThatWord rant over the term "tsundere" and how it has evolved over time]], from a [[DefrostingIceQueen transitional personality process]] to someone who switches back and forth constantly; in the end, he wonders if "tsundere" is really the right term to describe Kagami at all.
* ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'':
** Teana (towards [[{{Bokukko}} Subaru]]) in the third season. During their time at the academy, she was often annoyed at her mistakes, and didn't want to become friends with her. However, after meeting her sister and getting to know her better, she starts becoming close to her, but claims that [[FirstNameBasis calling her by her first name]] is merely to distinguish her from Ginga, and has trouble openly admitting how highly she regards her.
** Also, Alisa from the first season. She gets angry at Nanoha for not telling her about the magic-related problems weighing on her mind, but when Nanoha goes off to search for the Jewel Seeds with the Bureau, she's the first to offer to copy notes for her. When Nanoha returns, Alisa is pleased to see her, but doesn't show it as openly as Suzuka does.
** Vita has varying degrees of tsun and dere depending on who you are. She's almost completely dere around Hayate after warming up to her [[ThroughHisStomach by having some of her cooking]]. Around her friends and fellow Wolkenritter, she can often be blunt and temperamental, but is quite protective of them, especially Nanoha after she was injured on a mission with her. She projects a SternTeacher image around her pupils, but is blinking back tears while telling them not to cry over their parting.
** Agito also starts out as this, initially being hostile to everyone except Zest and Lutecia, and eventually warming up to other people, often showing a dere side around [[spoiler:her new Lord, Signum]].
* ''Anime/{{Macross}}'':
** Alto in ''Anime/MacrossFrontier'' is full blown Harsh. He blows hot and cold to both love interests (Sheryl and Ranka). Lampshaded in [[http://kurogane.animeblogger.net/2008/05/24/twintail-alto-hime/ this fan comic]] that depicts him getting a traditional, Tsundere twin tailed hairstyle, from Sheryl no less.
** Mirage from ''Anime/MacrossDelta'' falls a bit on the harsh side as well, especially to love interest Hayate. Naturally, her service uniform involves [[ZettaiRyouiki thigh highs]].
* ''Manga/MaidSama'': Misaki Ayuzawa, main character and aggressive female StudentCouncilPresident is a pretty textbook Harsh example, though having to bully the uncooperative guys of what used to be an all-boys school into line kind of explains it. Still, her interactions with most of the student body (the boys mostly, though there are a few exceptions), and Usui in particular are pretty much by-the-book for the character type.
* The ''Mazinger'' series:
** One of the {{Trope Codifier}}s: Sayaka Yumi from ''Anime/MazingerZ'', Kouji's hot-tempered and often downright [[SlapSlapKiss slap-happy]] [[BattleCouple girlfriend]], and one of the first Tsundere girls given a ''major'' role in almost any anime/manga. Her Type varies: she's Sweet in the original manga, but Harsh in the anime series.
** Justified with Jun Honou from ''Anime/GreatMazinger'', in that being [[ButNotTooForeign half-African]], there are feelings of frustration that make her irritable at times and aren't related to her relationship with [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Tetsuya Tsurugi]]. Of course, it wouldn't be so bad if Tetsuya was not a {{Tsundere}}, too (he is Asuka Langley Soryu's template, in fact).
** Maria Grace Fleed from ''Anime/UFORoboGrendizer'' was another Tsundere. She definitely is Harsh; Kouji has slap marks to prove it.
* ''Manga/MidoriDays'':
** Ayase fits Harsh with the main character, Seiji.
** Seiji fits Harsh with Midori herself as well.
* ''Manga/MissKobayashisDragonMaid'': Saikawa challenges Kanna, only to admit that she just wanted to be friends when the latter starts crying (although friend probably isn't the right word).
-->'''Saikawa''': Those clothes are too cute and you're good at everything. It makes me so angry that I want to give you a hug!!
* Domon Kasshu from ''Anime/MobileFighterGGundam'' develops some Tsundere traits as a part of his CharacterDevelopment in the second part of the series. Some of his later scenes with his partner MsFanservice Rain Mikamura [[TwiceShy mark the point very nicely]].
* ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam00'':
** [[spoiler:Soma/Marie]] could count as a Tsundere, thanks to [[spoiler:a literal split personality. Marie likes Allelujah, Soma... doesn't. For a while, since they end up together]]
** There's also some speculation about [[spoiler:Tieria Erde]] also being a {{Tsundere}}, specially towards [[spoiler:Neil!Lockon]]. In one of the 00 games, when [[spoiler:Lockon and Tieria get caught in an extremely hard mission and Lockon almost dies as a result, Tieria's reaction is textbook tsundere: sounding like he's about to cry or hyperventilate when Lockon comes close, then going tsuntsun and denying it]].
* ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamTheWitchFromMercury'': [[RebelliousPrincess Miorine Rembran]] is a solid example of Classic Tsundere. She is introduced violently headbutting [[TheHero Suletta]] and chewing her out due to an UnwantedRescue. She doesn't soften in their next few encounters, but there are hints of her sweeter, vulnerable HiddenDepths that grow more obvious as her relationship with Suletta deepens. Just watch her ''baka'''s go from annoyed to affectionate to downright emotional over the course of the show. There's even a track of the OST in Episode 3 called "Tsundere" that plays when Miorine flicks Suletta's forehead and accuses her of being sex-crazed.
* ''Manga/MonsterMusume'': Cathyl is a bit of a hothead, often squabbling with her boyfriend, and she's quick to threaten to beat up Kimihito if she gets uncomfortable while he's milking her. But when making up with her boyfriend after their misunderstanding she reveals a softer, shyer side.
* ''Manga/MonthlyGirlsNozakiKun'':
** Mikoshiba tries to put on a cool face and be a suave ladies' man, but secretly has a desire to feel needed and usually ends up blushing in complete embarrassment whenever he actually flirts with a girl.
** Hori is the very strict leader of the Drama Club. He usually hits [[{{Bifauxnen}} Kashima]], the star of the club, really hard when she skips practice to flirt with girls, which is often. However, he praises Kashima's skill like a proud parent when he's not seeing her shirk her duties or do something completely bizarre.
** Seo is like this towards Wakamatsu, but in an equally subtle way. She's rude (apparently unintentionally) to everyone ''except'' Waka, who is the only person Seo is ever directly nice to instead of neutral. She's never exactly rude to Wakamatsu- he's the only person she'll pass the ball to in basketball, even if she does hit him in the face all the time. "Waka" is also the only one she's ever given an AffectionateNickname to.
* ''Mozuya-san Goes on a Rampage'' deconstructs and spoofs the concept with a very harsh tsundere, who here is ''medically diagnosed'' with the trait as a form of bipolar disorder. Mozuya is hypersensitive to compliments, attacks anybody and anything that makes her really happy, and is quick to put down the people she loves in an attempt to push them away, but she melts when people show their true affection for her and craves their attention and love. She's very aware of how she comes off to people, which only makes her self loathing worse. There are other examples of tsunderes in the story, such as her classmate Chizuru and [[spoiler:her grandfather, another clinical case who evolved himself into a {{Kuudere}}]].
* In the ecchi manga ''Manga/MyBalls'', Elise gradually develops a crush on the male protagonist which leads to gradual emergence of her deredere side. She was even revealed to have a conscience that, instead of the traditional Good and Evil, consists of her Tsuntsun and Deredere tendencies.
* ''Manga/MyBrideIsAMermaid'': Maki's attitude towards Nagasumi softens into a harsh-but-caring one, although it's unclear whether she actually ''has'' feelings for him or is just trying to break him and Sun up as usual.
* ''Manga/MyDressUpDarling'': Sajuna "Juju" Inui is a Harsh-type by default, coming across as aloof and somewhat haughty, and even acting aggressively when her buttons are pushed ([[CompensatingForSomething which may be linked to]] [[HeightAngst her physical]] [[OlderThanTheyLook complexes about]] [[ACupAngst her body]]). She tends to show her kinder side only when she's alone with her sister Shinju, or when discussing her personal interests like the cosplay.
* ''Manga/MyHime'':
** Natsuki Kuga fits the description, displaying an abrasive exterior but hiding a sensitive side that loves puppies and collecting lingerie.
** Minor character Akira Okuzaki is also a textbook example, keeping up a rough facade but slowly opening up to her roommate, [[TheCutie Mai's brother Takumi]].
* ''Anime/MyselfYourself'': Nanaka. What is the first thing she does after she meets up with Sana in a long time? Give him a big slap in the face for not even remembering her. Not to mention give him some cold treatment until he finally cools her jets by playing a song that she half-composed as a farewell present on a piano.
* ''Manga/NanaAndKaoru'': Kaoru is a sterling example of a male tsundere -- on the surface, anyway. His reason for giving his childhood friend Nana the cold shoulder isn't because he can't bring himself to admit an attraction to her, but that she ''must not discover'' that he's in love with her, because A) she's destined for greatness and he feels that a loser like him would just slow her down B) it would probably end their "[[BoundAndGagged breathers]]" if he couldn't be a good dom. Yet he keeps slipping up and acting chivalrously, going the extra mile for her, complimenting her and so on -- it's hilarious and adorable. Nana has her tsuntsun moments as well, through she is more Sweet.
* ''Franchise/{{Naruto}}'':
** Temari is very aggressive, especially in her initial appearance, and is definitely ''[[CharacterCatchphrase troublesome]]'', but she also possesses a softer, more gentle side, and even forms a [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend sort-of relationship]] with her Chunin exam opponent, [[BrilliantButLazy Shikamaru]].
** Shikamaru's mother, Yoshino is quite tsundere-ish, acting all bossy to her husband but being actually caring, which just goes to show that [[LikeParentLikeSpouse Nara men have a thing for troublesome women]].
** Karin is tsuntsun toward just about everyone, especially Suigetsu, with whom she keeps picking fights. The only one she's deredere with is Sasuke, acting all cutesy towards him, and even then, only when they're alone -- in public, she's just as tsuntsun towards him as she is towards everyone else.
* ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'':
** Asuna Kagurazaka is a FieryRedhead who's caring and protective towards her friends, especially Negi and Ayaka.
** [[WordOfGod Akamatsu himself]] [[LampshadeHanging describes]] Chisame as a borderline tsundere. She's an extremely grumpy MetaGirl, frustrated with all the weirdness around her and complaining about everything all the time, but when it gets right down to it, she cares for everyone around her a lot (not that she'll admit it).
** Anya is Negi's childhood friend with a crush on him, but is ''extremely'' violent and jealous. She tries to burn Negi with her fire magic when she sees him "flirting" with other girls.
** Evangeline occasionally lapses into this. She treats her apprentices, Negi and Asuna, as her servants and abuses them with TrainingFromHell. Any implications that she cares about them or any of her classmates will be met with unconvincing denials.
** Emily Sevensheep is a bit tsun-tsun towards [[LesYay Yue Ayase]], but she clearly likes her [[spoiler:and even nearly dies protecting her]].
** Back in the tales of Ala Rubra, Princess Arika was ''very'' tsun-tsun towards Nagi, Negi's father. She slapped him at the slightest sign of disrespect towards her and the most positive thing she could say about her feelings for him was she "did not dislike (him)."
** Fate Averruncus sometimes shows signs of this towards Negi. His behavior towards Negi is full of HomoeroticSubtext ''and'' FoeRomanceSubtext, but he's such an EmotionlessBoy that he won't ever do anything that makes it too obvious that he has any positive feelings for Negi.
* ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'':
** {{Deconstructed|Trope}} with Asuka Langley Soryu in the anime. Her anger, haughtiness, and combative attitude make her a bad match for the ExtremeDoormat Shinji. She does have some feelings for him, but both are ''very'' bad at communicating their true feelings. The more time they spend together, Asuka only gets more frustrated with Shinji's passivity, taking it as a sign that he isn't interested in her, and this causes her harsh treatment of him to get ''worse''.
*** It's played straight in the [[Manga/NeonGenesisEvangelion manga]], where Asuka is shown to be capable of being genuinely nice to Shinji, albeit very brief and in rare moments.
** In ''Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion'', Asuka Langley ''Shikinami'' on the other hand is a classic Harsh tsundere. She acts rough, sure, but later shows a genuinely sweet side when she attempts to cook for "''baka-''Shinji." And later [[spoiler:volunteers to pilot Unit 03 so that Rei can bring Shinji and his father closer together]]. She does this for ''Rei'', who in most incarnations she doesn't care for at all. This alone should clue you in that Asuka Shikinami has more in the way of dere-dere than any of her Soryu counterparts.
** Misato acts tsun-tsun towards her OldFlame, Kaji. In her case, it's mostly driven by the fact that she is still in love with him, but there were very good reasons that their previous relationship didn't work out, and most of those haven't changed. Kaji having a fondness for flirting with other women doesn't help either.
* ''Manga/{{Nichijou}}'': Misato is '''heavy''' on the tsun. She attacks her love interest '''''and''''' anyone who makes even the slightest reference to her possibly having feelings for him. And by heavy, we mean '''[[MoreDakka heavy artillery]]'''. She once misinterprets a question about her cooking as a question about her getting married to him. Her HyperspaceArsenal style of tsundere-ness led to many fans calling her a "gundere."
* ''Anime/NinjaScroll'': Kagero the Ninja-Girl is a rare example of this trait played for ''tragedy'', as she could not learn to [[WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove express love and tenderness]] until it was too late.
* ''Manga/OnaniMasterKurosawa'': Sugawa proves herself to be a JerkWithAHeartOfGold and ReformedBully as this [[spoiler:with Kurosawa.]] This also receives LampshadeHanging when the target of her affections struggles to remember being told about this trope.
-->''"Sugawa is so... How's that word Nagoka taught me? Tsun... Tsun... Baka?"''
* ''Manga/OnePiece'':
** [[ClassyCatBurglar Nami]] is notorious for her wild mood swings towards several male characters of the show, the three most clear examples are her relationship with the PowerTrio of the Strawhats pirates Luffy, Zoro and Sanji:
*** Nami is very open towards main character Luffy when he comes crashing into her life, but quickly gets aggressive when he tells her about his [[{{Pirate}} pirate nature]] due to her DarkAndTroubledPast with pirates. Nami continues to dislike Luffy for a while then she after numerous heroic deeds she sees he is a "good" pirate and much nicer to him. Then she seemingly pulls a [[EtTuBrute betrayal]] and her vicious side surfaces again acting all FemmeFatale to Luffy and the boys mocking them for trusting her so easily. Luffy refuses to believe Nami is as cruel as she says and he's right as Nami is just putting on a act to protect and save her village from TheBigBad. When her act fails and Nami is left sobbing helpless she finally gives in and begs Luffy to help her. Luffy naturally agrees and [[CollapsingLair smashes Arlong Park to the ground]] after this Nami has unwavering loyalty to Luffy and is much closer to him. Although she'll still [[OnlySaneMan get frustrated with his stupid antics]], when going gets tough she becomes very doting and nice, hell the majority of the Anime/OnePieceFilmStrongWorld is about their relationship.
*** Nami is also harsh with [[MasterSwordsmen Zoro]] though much of this anger is justified as Zoro doesn't do much on the ship besides lift weights and [[SleepyHead sleep]] though she is quick to get into a heated argument with him, Nami is even quicker to show her soft side when Zoro get injured. Zoro is also very harsh with her calling her a "stupid woman" for running off in the heat of battle but only he's only putting up a front to mask his concern for her safety like on [[FloatingContinent Skypeia]] when she gets swallowed by a giant snake he can't focus on the battle.
*** Nami's attitude to "love-cook" [[ChefOfIron Sanji]] is a strong example; despite casually flirting with him on their first meeting (so she wouldn't have to pay for the food) Nami remains oblivious and uncaring to Sanji [[AllTakeAndNoGive always throwing himself at her]], only beating him up when he gets too grabby. Though she shows the occasional care for his safety in battle, Sanji only gets her annoyed with his antics... ''until he leaves on Zou''. Not only does Nami chase after him in the anime, [[BelatedLoveEpiphany she sulks]] for two days, cries about him in Luffy's arms, won't shut up about Sanji for the rest of the Zou arc, and is the first to volunteer to go with Luffy to save him. [[spoiler:Nami's harsh side quickly returns when she sees Sanji again (even crying out in joy) but is shocked to see him beat down Luffy and indirectly insult her (as an act for his family). Nami buys his ploy and slaps him in the face and bids him goodbye, heartbroken. Despite saying she doesn't care about Sanji after that, Nami becomes very upset when Sanji's bride-to-be, Pudding, plans to murder him]].
** Nami has nothing on Pudding though, who seems to be a direct parody of this trope. [[spoiler:After Sanji compliments the one feature she was always ashamed about, [[SplitPersonality her personality appears to have literally split into "Tsun" and "Dere"]], resulting in a bizarre character that is deeply in love with Sanji (even acting like how Sanji usually acts around beautiful women) and threatens him with an agonizing death in the next second]].
** Dadan constantly states how annoyed she is to be taking care of her three foster children and treats them running away to live in the woods as a blessing. However, she's actually very fond of the boys, she just refuses to admit it to anyone. When they are in danger she will risk her own life to save them and the [[spoiler:death of Ace]] leaves her miserable.
* ''Manga/OnlyTheFlowerKnows'': Misaki starts out this way. He's very reserved, and frequently acts irritated towards Arikawa (understandably, after he embarrasses the poor boy in public by telling him that he loves him in his dreams). He gradually warms up to him, though, acting less irritable over time and getting [[CrushBlush flustered]] in his presence. By the time they [[spoiler:get together]], he's lost most of his ''tsun'', and mostly comes across as shy rather than standoffish.
* Tachibana from ''Manga/{{Otomen}}'' identifies (male) Tonomine as a tsundere/oresama (portmanteau: tsunsama) type (and Tachibana knows his stuff, being himself a mangaka).
* ''Anime/PeterPanNoBouken'''s rendition of Tiger Lily. Specially towards [[ButtMonkey John Darling]].
* ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'':
** Kasumi/Misty is Harsh. She can be violent and furious, complete with wielding a mallet-of-doom (especially in the beginning or when you mention the word "bike" around her) or motherly, caring and romantic (especially after obtaining Togepi). Early seasons seem to hint that this is because of the lead-character of the show, Satoshi/Ash, yet later seasons make it less obvious and let her become more deredere than tsuntsun.
** Musashi/Jessie is a more extreme version of Harsh, as she has pretty intense mood swings.
** Iris's Dragonite in the ''Best Wishes series'' is Harsh as well. Just seeing the way he lets Iris catch him makes it pretty clear.
** Officer Jenny is usually one of these. They vacillate between A and B in their various incarnations, but every one of them has a quick temper and a nice side.
* Blue Oak/Green Okido from ''Anime/PokemonOrigins'', is a male example. An arrogant, condescending jackass who takes every single chance he has to mock and taunt Red's choices and actions throughout the series. He reveals his Dere side after losing his Pokemon Champion title to Red.
* Hayate from ''Manga/{{Pretear}}''. He's a total Tsun to Himeno throughout the early part of the series at least in the anime due to [[spoiler:Takako falling in love with him years before and inadvertently turning her evil when he rejected her]]. Of course he mellows towards the end of the series.
* From ''Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis'', Kaidoh Kaoru and perhaps Shishido Ryou can be considered male versions of this. Both are rather snappish (although Kaidoh sort of grows out of it by the end of the series), but Kaidoh enjoys playing with cats (specifically Ryoma's, when it wanders away) and is much less harsh towards his sempai, especially Inui. Shishido softens up whenever he's around his doubles partner, Ootori.
* In ''Anime/PrincessTutu'', [[spoiler:Fakir]] is typically distrustful and hostile to everyone. He shows a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold soft side]] when he’s kind to duck!Ahiru. Even when he and Ahiru grow closer, he continues to call her an idiot yet blushes furiously when [[PleasePutSomeClothesOn he catches her without her clothing]].
* ''Manga/PsychicSquad'': Kaoru fits exactly, particularly in the flashback when they first meet Minamoto. [[LampshadeHanging To quote Shiho, "What amazing Tsundere powers!"]]
* ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'': Kyoko Sakura acts hostile towards Sayaka because she disapproves of her values, but she [[LesYay develops a soft spot for her]]. Made obvious in episode 7, when she tries to help Sayaka, only to go back to being angry and aloof when her advice is refused. In episode 9, [[spoiler:she sacrifices herself to put witch!Sayaka out of her misery]].
* ''Manga/TheQuintessentialQuintuplets'': Out of the five Nakano sisters, Nino is the one who starts out as the most tsuntsun towards Fuutarou. Unlike Itsuki, whose attempt to be nice was met with a rather rude reply from him, Nino simply takes to hate him because she doesn't want him in their home, without him doing anything to personally slight her. This makes her switch to deredere when she meets "[[LovesMyAlterEgo Kintarou]]" all the more jarring for him. [[spoiler:Once she learns the truth and accepts having fallen in love with Fuutarou, she becomes much nicer while she retrofits her aggressive personality from hostility to her romantic pursuit of him, finally subverting this trope.]]
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'': Ranma Saotome is a non-violent Harsh tsundere. He enjoys teasing and tormenting Akane, and often provokes fights with her through intentional insults as well as [[NoSocialSkills bluntly spoken unpleasant truths]]. However, his harassing Akane is presented as his clumsy way of expressing his attraction to her, akin to a little boy pulling a girl's pigtail because he likes her but doesn't know any better way to show it, and he can express surprisingly tender or romantic feelings on rare occasions.
* Narumi is a harsh type towards Hibiki in ''Manga/ReKan'', largely because she doesn't want to hear about the latter being able to talk to ghosts.
* ''Manga/RoosterFighter'': Elizabeth hates Keiji's guts and can't admit that's what she likes about him.
* ''Manga/RosarioPlusVampire'': Moka Akashiya has [[SplitPersonality two personalities]]; one is the super sweet and loving Outer Moka and the other is the cold and proud Inner Moka. Early on, only Outer Moka loves Tsukune while Inner Moka treats him with detached disinterest, but Inner Moka gradually falls for Tsukune as well. When the other members of the UnwantedHarem call her out on it, Inner Moka blushes and beats them up, telling them to [[CharacterCatchphrase "know their place."]]
* ''Manga/RozenMaiden'' has three.
** Shinku is the first one we meet. She tells Jun that he is her "servant" and physically abuses him when he does something she doesn't like. (Everything from slapping him in the face to shoving her heavy case into his leg.) Her deredere side shows itself more as the Rozen Maiden franchise progresses.
** Suiseseki likes Jun, but generally shows him her Tsun-tsun side. She is haughty, rude, and it takes one season for her to admit she even likes him. Her deredere side is only triggered when [[spoiler:Bara-suishou is well on her way to defeating her in Traumend and she finally asks him to be her medium during The Covenant episode. She is in complete denial until this point, even though she is previously seen looking up ''other'' Sakuradas in the phone book trying to get them to be her medium]]. Suiseseki is the resident [[ThePrankster prankster]] of the bunch on top of that.
** Suigintou in Träumend begins as Harsh. After being awakened by her medium Megu, Suigintou promptly tells her that she doesn't need a medium. She begins to show her deredere side as soon as both girls begin to talk about [[spoiler:their bodies as junk]].
* ''Franchise/SailorMoon'':
** In the [[Manga/SailorMoon manga]], Rei Hino/Sailor Mars is an AloofDarkHairedGirl and a DefrostingIceQueen. In the first [[Anime/SailorMoon anime]], however, she's more outspoken and HotBlooded, fitting as a Harsh Tsundere quite well. She starts out ''very'' tsuntsun, switching a bit more to deredere as time passes; she especially acts like this towards Mamoru (first season only; she backs off as soon as he and Usagi are revealed to be each other's true loves), Yuuichirou, and ''especially'' towards [[LesYay Usagi]].
** Usagi's ''cat'', Luna, acts annoyed or uninterested around Artemis, her DoggedNiceGuy, and even fawns over Yaten ''in front'' of Artemis, but in reality is quite fond of him.
** In the anime, Sailor Lead Crow was this to her partner Sailor Aluminium Siren. Even if you [[LesYay don't ship them together]], you can't ignore how Lead Crow nagged on her partner but ultimately cared for her. [[spoiler:She was heartbreakingly deredere when Siren was killed]].
** When Zoisite became Zoycite in the [=DiC=] dub, her personality shifted to this; where Zoisite was cruel to everyone but Kunzite, Zoycite had moments where she seemed harsh towards Malachite despite loving him deeply.
** An/Natsumi is like this towards Eil/Seijirou until the very end of their arc.
* ''Manga/{{Saiyuki}}'' has Sanzo as the male example. He is short-tempered, has little patience with anyone, a foul mouth and attitude, and constantly shoots people (even those in his party) while spewing death threats over the slightest annoyance. [[spoiler:However, in one episode on Reload, the same pissy monk reluctantly agrees to babysit a stray kitten the party stumbled on after fighting youkai in spite of [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes his crippling fear of triggering his allergies to cats]], and gradually warms up to the cat enough to nap with it and grow heavily concerned over it when it was injured trying to save him from a surprise attack]]. Every once in a while, however, he is a lot calmer in talking with [[TeamMom Hakkai]] without the need of violence, and genuinely cares for [[MoralityPet Goku]] among the others of the group (whether he admits it or not) that he [[BerserkButton gets even more pissed when they're particularly injured or in danger]]. In cases where his party passes by a town in need (where the monster of the episode may be lurking), he also is charismatic and shows a bit of care in the welbeing of whoever the party has to save (namely female one-of characters). [[spoiler:His past incarnation, Konzen, is also the same, but his tsun-tsun is a lot more toned down and he's a lot more willing to show he has a dere-dere side]].
* ''Manga/{{Saki}}'': Kyouko is this to Suzu, her teammate on the Himematsu mahjong team as despite writing on her forehead when she loses, she has great faith in her abilities. 15 months before the nationals, when Ikuno told Kyouko that they were considering putting her on the team, Kyouko declined, arguing that Suzu would be a better choice, as while Suzu doesn't rank well under Himematsu's ranking system, she has great potential when outmatched. Kyouko then asked Ikuno not to tell Suzu that Kyouko recommended her, saying it would be embarrassing.
* ''Manga/SakuraNoIchiban'': Misao is heavy with the tsun as she is hot tempered, almost always in a bad mood and often puts her hands on Asami when the other girl annoys her or does something wreckless. However, there are several instances where it's shown that she cares a lot for Asami even though she vehemently denies it.
* ''Manga/SamuraiDeeperKyo'': Kyo is very heavy on the tsuntsun. Hoo boy. He regularly calls his {{Love Interest|s}} ''dog-face'' and ''Servant #1'', and has a really obnoxious habit of randomly feeling her up, no matter who happens to be watching. But the few moments in which he shows that he cares about her and the way he fights when she's in danger are surprisingly genuine and heartwarming, especially near the end of the manga.
* ''Manga/SamuraiHaremAsuNoYoichi'' has both types. Older sister Ibuki is a very kind, sweet girl who pounds anyone into oblivion when they cross her, specifically Yoichi whenever he shows signs of being an AccidentalPervert. Younger sister Ayame tries to play it cool all the time, but can't always hide her attraction to the samurai.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}} Umino Masachika from ''Manga/SatouKashiNoDanganWaUchinukenai'' fits this at times. When asked why she told her new "good friend" to go to hell in the middle of class, she responded that it was ''"an expression of love!"''
* ''Manga/SayonaraZetsubouSensei'':
** Mayo Mitama is described as a {{Tsundere}} by another character, but parodies the type by having a barely evident "dere" side, and a "tsun" side so outright psychopathic that no amount of "dere" could counterbalance it.
** In episode 5 of the second season, the apologetic Ai Kaga briefly "becomes a tsundere character" for all the wrong reasons... Which prompts Itoshiki to wonder if a tsundere without the dere side is possible nowadays. Manga FanGirl Harumi Fujiyoshi is quick to reply that it is, since the dere side can be "[[AlternateCharacterInterpretation filled in by imagination]]."
* ''VisualNovel/SchoolDays'': The most straight-up Tsundere is the local PatientChildhoodLoveInterest, the bossy and no-nosense AlphaBitch and sportswoman Otome Katou. Her deredere side is more evident in the games.
* Non-romantic example: In ''Manga/ServantXService'', Touko often hangs around the welfare section of the ward office and challenging the staff with welfare laws. Reason is BigBrotherWorship; she just wants to hang out more with her big brother Taishi, who works there.
* ''Manga/ShadowStar'':
** Satomi Ozawa is a quite dark version of this; apart from being one of the main villains, her relationship with her (ex-)boyfriend Bungo Takano is more screwed up than usual. In the manga, she [[spoiler:only softens up to him again after a rather severe case of BreakTheHaughty]].
** Norio Koga, the resident gay character, is a ''possible'' male Tsundere. He's usually a ''very'' grouchy guy who likes to tell [[TheCasanova Takeo Tsurumaru]] that he hates him (though to be fair, Takeo can be [[ManipulativeBastard quite an ass]]) but secretly has romantic feelings for the guy that go as far as [[spoiler:wanting to have his baby]]. His deredere side doesn't show much, and when it does, it's fairly downplayed.
* ''Manga/ShamanKing'': Kyouyama Anna serves as a good example of Tsundere, though more of the tsuntsun than the deredere. In the flashback chapters when we witness Yoh and Anna's first meeting, young Anna is very cold to Yoh, saying he's lame and that she cannot believe he's her future husband. [[spoiler:It is later revealed that Anna is being followed by an oni of her own creation, who attacks anyone who tries to get close to her, which is partly -- but not wholly -- the reason [[ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies why she pushes Yoh away]]]]. When Yoh promises to become the Shaman King for her, Anna begins to warms up to him. However, she never lets herself go very much into deredere, maintaining that tsuntsun with Yoh by forcing him through [[TrainingFromHell incredibly difficult training]] and often refusing to help him out of near-death situations. However, her affections for him are seen now and again, and it's easy to see in those moments how much Yoh means to her, [[spoiler:like when she briefly broke down crying when Yoh was possessed by Tokagerou to save Ryu, her reaction to Yoh's EvilTwin Hao trying an IHaveYouNowMyPretty on her, or her serious HeroicBSOD when Yoh almost dies at the hands of Hao]].
* ''Manga/ShesMyKnight'': Haruma Ichinose, being basically an {{expy}} of Mikoshiba (see ''Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun'' above), is a quintessential male tsundere, putting on a "ladies' man" facade while blushing in embarrassment whenever he tries to flirt (or Mogami seems to be flirting back at him).
-->'''Miyoshi:''' You like her, don't you?
-->'''Ichinose:''' [[BigWhat WHAT?!]] O-o-o-of course not! She barely even looks like a girl!
-->But, I mean, what if she fell for me? That would mean I'm cooler than her, y'know?
-->I guess I could go out with her if she asked. She's not bad looking, and she's nice, and cute...
-->So anyway, [[BlatantLies I don't like her at all]].
* Utau Hoshina of ''Manga/ShugoChara'' -- mainly towards Amu Hinamori (because she refuses to admit she's her friend) and Kukai Souma (because she refuses to admit she may or may not like someone other than her brother).
* ''Anime/SpacePirateMito'': Kafuko is Harsh and usually uses the smirk on Aoi, the protagonist, to try and hide her crush on him. She also tries to discourage another girl that she notices getting close to Aoi by listing off all his faults, but only ends up revealing her crush and encouraging the girl instead.
* An early example would be Kasha Imhof (towards Cosmo Yuki) from ''Anime/SpaceRunawayIdeon'', though she is definitely more on the tsun-tsun side throughout the series. The closest she comes to dere-dere is during the Kitty Kitten arc, [[spoiler:but she finally acknowledges her feelings for Cosmo half-way through the ''Be Invoked'' movie... only to ''die'' shortly afterwards. And then, everyone else dies]].
* ''Manga/SpyXFamily'': While he was showing signs of it before, Damian dives headfirst into this trope after Anya gives a ''very'' tearful apology for punching him. It's mostly because he can't believe that he'd be developing feelings for a lower-class girl.
* ''Manga/StDragonGirl'': Momoka is normally a sweet girl but Ryuga's teasings always manages to draw out her violent side.
* ''Manga/{{Suzuka}}'' from the manga of the same name is ''extremely'' harsh towards Akitsuki, despite having strong feelings for him. Several times, ''while they were officially dating'', she told him that she hated him and to leave her alone, or flat out punching him. Once she [[spoiler:comes back from America]] and even more so after [[spoiler:the unintended pregnancy and their marriage, when she fully realizes how much Akitsuki loves her]], she warms up quite a bit and only acts tsun towards Akitskuki-kun when provoked.
* Male example with [[BadassBookworm Manabizaki]] from ''Manga/{{SWOT}}''. He's usually [[HairTriggerTemper foul-tempered]] and really gruff and dismissive. No, he didn't come to save you -- he was just on his way to the test/class/study-session and the bad guys got in the way. He doesn't like Hasuno. She's a damned ex-delinquent and the people attacking her were making too much noise, so he couldn't study properly. What?! No, he is not [[LuminescentBlush blushing]]!
* ''Manga/TegamiBachiLetterBee'': Niche is a rather extreme one. Default mode: rude and violent. Occupation: Dingo for Letter Bee Lag Seeing. Likes: Lag Seeing. Dislikes: armor bugs, [[ACupAngst when Lag talks to girls with larger chests than her own]], or to [[ClingyJealousGirl almost everyone else, for that matter]], [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and]] [[InnocentFanserviceGirl underpants]], especially the little ones that go "pi" when Niche moves.
* ''Manga/TentaiSenshiSunred'': Sunred is a romantic version of this towards his girlfriend Sayoko, appreciating and loving her but being really bad at expressing it honestly under his very gruff and jerkish personality. On a platonic level he's also this against his 'ArchEnemy' Vamp and the rest of Florsheim -- ever since he retired from being a {{Sentai}} hero he has no friends or colleagues left, and only his former enemies bother to check in on him (even if it is just to fight him to the death and TakeOverTheWorld).
* ''VisualNovel/ToHeart'':
** Shiho Nagaoka qualifies, especially when she develops feelings for Hiroyuki in the last two episodes of the anime.
** As well as Yuma Tonami from ''VisualNovel/ToHeart2'', who finally admits to herself she likes the male lead in the second episode of the 2 part OVA ''To Heart 2: Another Days''.
** Ruri Himeyuri could also be classified as a Tsundere, given the way she treats Takaaki and how overprotective she is of Sango.
* ''Manga/ToLoveRu'': Yui Kotegawa spends much of her time scolding the other cast members for their ([[AccidentalPervert mostly unintentional]]) indecent behavior, but as the series goes on she finds herself in love with Rito.
* ''Anime/TomicaHyperRescueDriveHeadKidouKyuukyuuKeisatsu'': Taiga Yagura is very aloof at first, especially towards Gou, and unwilling to admit he sees Gou as a friend. He does mellow out quite a bit over time.
* ''Manga/TonariNoKashiwagiSan'' has [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Sayaka]]. Yuuto and Kotone even [[DiscussedTrope discuss it]] at one point, trying to figure out her feelings for Kazuki. Once they start dating, Kazuki gets very proficient in pushing her dere buttons, usually to her embarrassment.
* ''Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle'': Kurogane starts out pure tsuntsun (Often easily annoyed by Fai's antics, never calls anyone by name, etc) but eventually reveals a deredere side first when he meets a lookalike of his princess (Tomoyo-hime) in Piffle World (and Fai teases him about this -- but then again, Fai teases him about ''everything''), and then [[spoiler:when he unflinchingly offers to give up his own blood to save Fai -- almost a direct parallel with Syaoran offering to pay Yuuko's price before she even names it in order to save Sakura. A crowning moment for the Kuro/Fai ship, which had until that point looked like [[AllLoveIsUnrequited unrequited love]] on Fai's part]], and a great display of "Kuro-rin"'s "deredere" side.
* ''Manga/TheTyrantFallsInLove'': Souichi is antisocial and ill-tempered to pretty much everyone, but doles out most of his punches, kicks, and verbal abuse to Morinaga. Except for when he accidentally lets slip signs that he cares for Morinaga more than he'd like to admit, upon which he's reduced to furious blushing and stammered-out denials. It certainly doesn't help that Souichi's [[PretendPrejudice supposed]] to be a homophobe, which severely hinders him from accepting the idea of him being in love with another man, much less being affectionate towards one.
* ''Manga/UshioAndTora'':
** Tora is one of the rare clear male examples -- he refuses to admit that he considers Ushio a friend and generally goes ballistic if anyone implies that they like each other. He also consistently threatens and attacks Ushio (Violent Approach, check), insults him (Taunt, check), or tries to simply ignore him. (Cold Shoulder, check.) Nevertheless, he always shows up to help Ushio in tight spots, often with a " Don't get me wrong, I just..." excuse. (Defender, check.) All in all, it's pretty obvious they share a strong trust and respect for each other; [[CanNotSpitItOut they just won't admit it]].
** In later chapters, Tora develops a very similar (but less violent and far more romantic) relationship to Mayuko, whose life he keeps saving. What is his motivation for going out of his way to help these people he claims he doesn't like? He's the only one allowed to eat them. (Which, of course, he never gets around to doing.)
* ''Anime/{{Vandread}}'': Hibiki Tokai, having grown up in a world where men and women were raised separately and conditioned to view each other as mortal enemies, is completely clueless as to how to act around girls. Even once he starts to open up to Dita, he [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend fiercely denies]] becoming close to the opposite gender. ''Definitely'' the "doesn't believe that men should show weakness" variety.
* Zero Kiryu from ''Manga/VampireKnight'' counts as one. He developed this persona towards the Day Class girls excluding Yuki.
* ''Manga/VermeilInGold'': {{Deconstructed}} with Lilia Kudelfelt, [[TheProtagonist Alto Goldfield]]'s ChildhoodFriend. She's blatantly crushing on Alto, but she's so stubborn and unable to speak with him without seeming rude, which makes it impossible for her to actually advance towards ChildhoodFriendRomance. Vermeil's appearance ends up leading to a total collapse of any chance she might have had if she had tried to be more forward with her feelings.
* ''Manga/TheWallflower'':
** Sunako is this towards [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Kyohei]]. At first, their relationship is rather rocky as she's completely turned off by how "radiant" he is, to the point where she becomes distraught and has an urge to kill him. Eventually, the hostility she had towards him gradually fades as she starts to warm up to him in later chapters, though she still can't stand him at times, [[BelligerentSexualTension making it a love-hate relationship between the two]]. It is hinted many times throughout the manga that she developed feelings for him, but [[UnknowinglyInLove doesn't realize this]] until the last chapter. [[MaybeEverAfter Maybe]].
** Kyohei is a male example. He's rough and rude towards Sunako even though he obviously likes her. The most he'll admit is that he likes her [[ThroughHisStomach cooking]], though.
* ''Manga/WanderingSon'': Maho is one of these, mainly towards her younger brother (well, [[UsefulNotes/{{transgender}} sister]]). She was introduced as a normal, if someone mean-spirited and bratty, sibling but got increasingly more tsundere and aggressive with time. Still for all their tussles she does love Shuu.
* ''Manga/TheWorldGodOnlyKnows'':
** Mio puts on a harsh front towards Keima, but has feelings for him deep down. Keima even identifies her as the type of character who puts up a strong and arrogant front to hide her vulnerability. She particularly likes to [[WhipOfDominance use a whip to motivate him]], and it's pointed out by Morita that it looks like she developed a CasualKink for it. She partially loses her tsun side after her arc.
** Haqua becomes this right after a few chapters of interacting with Keima. And considering the scythe she's waving around it's better to steer way clear of her outbursts.
** Diana, the goddess residing inside Keima's friend [[ShrinkingViolet Tenri]]. She says she has no interest in such a disgusting man like Keima and is only trying to help Tenri, but still blushes a lot around him and is a ClingyJealousGirl when Keima pursues or shows interest in anyone not named Tenri.
** Ayumi. Since she's part of the track and field team, that means painful kicks for Keima.
** Chihiro. One of the girls that acts jerkier to Keima in spite of her clear affections for him. She is also one of the few who can actually defeat him verbally.
** Tsukiyo tries to be TheStoic, but tends to get violent and have outbursts around Keima.
* In ''Manga/XxxHolic'', Kimihiro Watanuki is most often this towards [[HoYay Shizuka Doumeki]] (with occasional instances where he shows his dere-dere side). Towards beautiful women, however, he's pure deredere. Except for Yuuko, in which case he's ''also'' a Tsundere.
* Nene Odagiri from ''Manga/YamadaKunAndTheSevenWitches'' who is madly in love with the eponymous Yamada, but spends most of her time trying to bite his head off. She is one of his most supportive and helpful friends (when she isn't trying to steal him away from his girlfriend, that is), but absolutely refuses to admit that she has a soft side to her. And yet, she can't help her more tender emotions from showing now and then.
* ''Manga/YowamushiPedal'' has Arakita Yasutomo, who acts very harshly towards Shinkai Hayato. It may not be romantic, but it's because Arakita and Shinkai's relationship works because Shinkai ignores his angry behavior.
* ''Franchise/YuGiOh'':
** Mai Kujaku/Valentine and Jou/Joey from the original ''Manga/YuGiOh'', often towards each other. Though it takes some [[DefrostingIceQueen defrosting]] following [[BreakTheHaughty her first defeat]] to bring out the former's dere.
** Seto Kaiba from the same series, despite constantly trash-talking them, spends a lot of time helping out Yugi and company while insisting that he doesn't care about them and has ulterior reasons for doing so. He also got very passionately angry when Yugi lost in the FillerArc, as if such a thing was a personal affront to him as a rival, and ''Anime/YuGiOhTheDarkSideOfDimensions'' is driven primarily by his Yugi obsession.
** Aki Izayoi from ''Anime/YuGiOh5Ds'' combines this with DefrostingIceQueen, starting off ([[AllOfTheOtherReindeer quite justifiably]]) tsuntsun and terrifyingly violent toward just about ''everyone'', but eventually seemingly warming up to Yusei. She basically becomes more of a Sweet, {{Moe}} girl by season three.
* ''Anime/YukiYunaIsAHero'': Karin offers a platonic example. After having trained for years to be a MagicalGirlWarrior, she insists that she has no time for frivolous things like friendship. [[BlatantLies She only attends the Hero Club's social events to keep an eye on the other girls.]] [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial It's not like she's enjoying herself or anything.]]
* ''Manga/YuunaAndTheHauntedHotSprings'': Sagiri starts out as a textbook example of a Harsh type, initially having a bad temper, being quick to jump to conclusions, and threatening Kogarashi whenever she thinks he's being a pervert. Once she realizes he's not a bad person like she initially thought, Sagiri's attitude towards Kogarashi softens considerably and she stops threatening him for AccidentalPervert moments.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sweet (Dere)]]
* ''Manga/The100GirlfriendsWhoReallyReallyReallyReallyReallyLoveYou'': Kishika typically presents herself with a chivalrous knightly persona, but will vehemently refuse anything that could cause her to lapse into an infantile state.
* ''Manga/AngelDensetsu'': Ryoko is always sweet to her {{Love Interest|s}} Kitano and pretty nice to normal people, but has a fiery temper when provoked by challengers and people who annoy her.
* ''Manga/ArpeggioOfBlueSteel'': Takao likes to act haughty and aloof, but only when she's trying to impress. The rest of the time she can be quite sweet and downright melts around Gunzou, which is lampshaded by most characters, to her annoyance.
* ''Manga/BGataHKei'': Yamada is an [[LovableSexManiac adorably perverted]] {{Cloudcuckoolander}}, until she gets near Kosuda.
* ''Manga/CaseClosed'':
** Ran Mouri. Since she's a national-ranked karate girl, her violent tendencies come in handy more than once.
** Sumiko Kobayashi exhibits slight {{tsundere}} traits in her and [[spoiler:Shiratori]]'s focus episodes. She's normally the sweetest and kindest CoolTeacher, but when she suspects that [[spoiler:Shiratori is using her to forget about his former love Sato]], she freezes up towards him '''big''' time, and it takes him quite a bit to get to her.
* ''Manga/ChocoMimi'': Mimi is firmly dere. The only character that triggers her tsun side is Mumu.
* ''Manga/CrimsonSpell'': Prince Valdrigr is friendly, noble, and kindhearted to everyone he meets, but InsufferableGenius Halvir and Vald's own mixed feelings about him bring out the ''tsun''.
* ''Manga/DagashiKashi'': Tsaya is of the dere variety as she's overall a nice and pleasant person, but gets flustered when ever her crush on Kokonotsu is brought up.
* ''Manga/{{Doraemon}}'': Shizuka (Sue) is one of the nicer characters, but if Nobita does something stupid or tactless, she won't hesitate to punish him.
* ''Manga/{{Dramacon}}'': The lead protagonist, Christie, is usually a kind person around her friends. However, when she's around Matt, she goes all tsuntsun on him. He kind of deserves it when he acts like a jerk or makes some kind of inappropriate comment about her. She gets better in the other volumes.
** She was also like this to her [[spoiler:ex-]]boyfriend, Derek. To be fair, he flirted with any girl he saw and paid little attention to her at all. [[spoiler:This, along with the AttemptedRape scene, was the reason why she broke up with him]].
* ''Manga/FairyTail'' has several Harsh tsunderes, but they also give us a Sweet one with Levy [=McGarden=]. She's sweet to everyone, but often gets angry at Gajeel Redfox, resident JerkWithAHeartOfGold. We can all see where this ShipTease [[BelligerentSexualTension is going...]].
** There's also Lucy Heartfilia. Although it's mostly PlayedForLaughs (and probably riffing on other anime's use of the trope) and everyone in the guild is... rowdy, the normally cute, [[TheTease flirty]], [[GenkiGirl light-hearted]] celestial wizard can have a [[MegatonPunch violent temper]] at times, especially when finding tresspassers in her house. Which happens every other episode.
* In a BoysLove example, Randy "Ryo" [=Mc=]Lean from ''Manga/{{FAKE}}'' can be seen as Tsundere towards [[BattleCouple his partner and love interest]] Dee Laytner. Doesn't help that Dee is not only an ex-TheCasanova, but quite the HandsomeLech who is often chased around by CrazyJealousGuy JJ.
** [[VictoriousChildhoodFriend Carol]] fits a bit more as the typical Tsundere towards her best friend and later boyfriend, Ryo's adoptive son Bikky.
* ''Manga/FlyMeToTheMoon'': Tsukasa is a NiceGirl but can be cold to people who get on her nerves.
* ''Manga/FruitsBasket'': Kagura Sohma is a rather curious mix of Tsundere and ''{{Yandere}}''. She largely exhibits traits of the Sweet type, as she's normally very nice to other people...but when it comes to Kyo it's a whole other story, as she's openly affectionate towards him but will easily snap and beat him half to death whenever he runs away from her or rebuffs her advances. She's ironically also on friendly terms with her "rival," Tohru.
* ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'': Winry Rockbell is a really sweet and cheerful girl who almost never gets angry, unless Ed breaks the automail she made for him, which usually results in her [[WrenchWhack beating him up with her wrench]].
* ''Anime/FutureGPXCyberFormula'': Asuka Sugo is generally a sweet and caring girl, but her tsun side comes out when somebody/something pushes her buttons. In EP 32, for example, she throws stuff at her friend and teammate Hayato when he [[AccidentalPervert accidentally sees her wearing a towel]]. It has since mellowed out after the end of the TV series.
* ''Manga/HeavensLostProperty'': Sohara is normally quite nice, but Tomoki's perversion triggers her violent side.
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'':
** In the Highschool AU mini-game, ''Gakuen Hetalia'', the main character Seychelles is Sweet. She's mostly sweet and demure, but as soon as England or France get pushy on her, she goes ''very'' tsuntsun.
** Taiwan also has some shades of this. She's more often than not a GenkiGirl, but snaps rather fast when China annoys her.
** There have also been fan interpretations of several characters as Sweet tsunderes; see the Fanfiction section below for more info.
* Two oldschool examples are Honey from ''Manga/HoneyHoney'' and Candy from ''Manga/CandyCandy''. Both are blonde, plucky, cheerful {{Heartwarming Orphan}}s who go grumpy towards GentlemanThief Phoenix and TroubledButCute Terry, respectively. Though Candy is ''pure'' deredere towards her other possible love interests, Anthony [[spoiler:(who dies in an accident)]] and Albert [[spoiler:(Anthony's uncle, who '''''may''''' be more likely to get to her, since Terry stays with DelicateAndSickly Susanna instead.)]]
* Liz Ricarro from ''[[Anime/IGPXImmortalGrandPrix IGPX]]'' is a more muted tsundere -- her arguments with Takeshi don't always extend to violence; most of the time they get along more or less fine, she usually has a concrete reason for berating or attacking him (Takeshi does kind of have an ego), and both are trained martial artists anyway. Takeshi puts it best in episode 2: "If you're not screaming, you're not happy."
* ''Anime/ImGonnaBeAnAngel'': Mikael is Harsh with Raphael and Sweet with anyone else [[spoiler:with a mix of Yangire]]. He usually acts like a nice, kind and polite gentleman [[spoiler:that is until everything goes according to his plans -- if not, he might turn into a full-blown Yangire)]]. And when around Raphael, he's a straight-up Harsh Tsundere [[spoiler:with '''''very''''' occasional dere side popping out in critical moments]].
** Also, Natsumi is mostly Sweet: [[spoiler:she's genuinely sweet and kind, but especially in the first season often acted very tsunderish towards Yuusuke -- slapping him, tearing his love letter and being an overall bitch. She might be more of a DefrostingIceQueen since by the end of the series she almost completely mellowed down]].
* ''Manga/{{Inuyasha}}'':
** Kagome Higurashi. She is sweet and understanding most of the time, but make her mad and she'll unleash her violent side upon you, which is especially bad for [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Inuyasha]] since she has power over a cursed necklace that will slam him into the ground. Note that she warmed up to Inuyasha quite faster than the other [[Creator/RumikoTakahashi Takahashi]] [[AuthorAppeal Tsunderes]] towards their love interests.
** Sango is also a tsundere towards her love interest [[HandsomeLech Miroku]], who she harshly criticizes and hits when he behaves like a pervert, but when not provoked by him she's basically a YamatoNadeshiko.
* ''Manga/KamisamaKiss'': Nanami is usually a sweet person, but the only one who provokes her Tsun-Tsun side is Tomoe. Even with his snarky and rude behavior, she does show her Dere-Dere side.
* ''Manga/TheKindaichiCaseFiles'': Miyuki, mostly towards Kindaichi because he is a lazy jerk at times.
* ''Manga/KotouraSan'': Haruka is usually Sweet -- she's mainly TheIngenue, but can be very tsuntsun when Manabe is being a pervert or an idiot.
* ''Manga/LittleHouseWithAnOrangeRoof'': Natsumi Tachibana is one of these, though her ex-husband's rampant infidelity is more reason than a Tsundere usually has.
* ''Anime/MacrossFrontier'': Sheryl Nome demonstrates this in moderation, though her particularly ''Dere'' moments means she's about to hit you with TheTease. Has a crush on a certain someone in the Harsh list, and some LesYay vibes with her {{Moe}} love rival Ranka.
* ''Manga/MaisonIkkoku'': Kyoko Otonashi expresses Tsundere qualities as a ''subversion'' of the YamatoNadeshiko personality: basically, her outwardly [[YamatoNadeshiko perfect Japanese housewife]] persona hides her childish, almost bipolar bouts of tsundere-ness. She is an interesting case, as in that when the audience meets her parents, it's shown that her mother is a tsundere and in flashbacks, that Kyoko was even more openly a tsundere in her youth. (Interacting with her parents seems to bring this out in her). It's as if Kyoko is the mascot for teenage tsunderes who manage to grow-up and become the YamatoNadeshiko that most of them want to be (and it's been speculated that she became a YN after having been widowed very early, rather than anything else). However, her old tsundere behavior is still there, ready to breakout if she relives old childhood experiences.
-->'''Godai''': The woman I love burns with jealousy, leaps to conclusions, cries, and turns to ice... but when she laughs... the world is mine.
* ''Manga/{{Major}}'': Kaoru Shimizu is generally a very sweet and kind girl, but her ''tsun'' side really flares up when she's around Goro. As the series advances, and especially after [[OfficialCouple they finally begin dating each other]] her ''dere'' side takes over.
** The sequel, ''Manga/MajorSecond'' has Mutsuko Sakura, who is also a ''dere'' type by default, but sometimes Daigo gets on her nerves by being clueless to her feelings and insensitive.
* Since Domon Kasshu evolves into a Harsh Tsundere as ''Anime/MobileFighterGGundam'' advances, his partner Rain Mikamura can't be less than he is. She's the sweetest and most motherly girl around, but Domon is among the few who can push her buttons.
* AnimeChineseGirl Fa Yuiri from ''Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam'' also qualifies as Sweet Tsundere in regards to her neighbor and partner Kamille Vidan, specially when Sarah Zaviaroff or Rosamia Badam are nearby. In the sequel ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamZZ Gundam ZZ]]'', where the more mature Fa is the TeamMom, Elle Vianno and later Roux Rouka (though she's a bit more of a DefrostingIceQueen) become the local Tsundere.
* Rockna from ''Anime/MonColleKnights'' is a mix between this and {{Yandere}}. Mostly sweet and innocent, but becomes violent towards her dad or Mondo when they act rudely or hit on other girls.
* Mamiko, the heroine of Nozaki's ShoujoGenre series in ''Manga/MonthlyGirlsNozakiKun''. Her personality is based on Mikoto's own Sweet tendencies [[spoiler:(though her looks were based on Chiyo Sakura, after her and Nozaki's ForgottenFirstMeeting)]]. Or as Nozaki puts it in chapter 20, while providing some guidance for Hori [[SickEpisode when he's ill]]:
-->"Even though she likes Suzuki, she can't be honest with herself and always ends up saying the wrong thing, so on one hand, she feels depressed, and on the other, she's worried about the other girls' actions, thinking, "Can I trust Suzuki?" Like that."
* ''Anime/MyHime'': Mai Tokiha flips back and forth between "hot" and "cold" around Yuuichi Tate, as she occasionally has to deal with his practical jokes and moments of perversity ([[AccidentalPervert accidental]] and otherwise), and the ClingyJealousGirl who always hangs around him. Being the [[NaiveNewcomer new girl in town]], she still wants to do right by everybody... even him.
* ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'': Natsumi is usually a very nice, unconfident girl, but has troubles coming to terms with her feelings for Kotaro and her budding BelligerentSexualTension with him (mainly due to the fact that he's still a kid).
* ''Manga/OnePiece'': Before we meet Princess Mansherry, she's described as "bitter, selfish, cruel, spoiled and ill-tempered." Later, when we meet her in person, she is very unlike this description. It turns out she's actually sweet by default, but harsh towards Leo (the person who gave that description), because she is in love with him and easily frustrated by his being ObliviousToLove.
* ''Anime/PeterPannoBouken'' has Tiger Lily as a Harsh type... and it makes Wendy Darling a Sweet one. She's the most maternal and sweet girl, like any other of their incarnations, but this one also gives her a HotBlooded side that makes her downright ''terrifying'' in the rare times she when she gets mad, like the time when she went AlmightyMom ''on none other than Captain Hook'' and was THIS close to go TalkingTheMonsterToDeath on him.
* Oddly, the main Shaymin of the 11th movie ''Anime/PokemonGiratinaAndTheSkyWarrior'' was quite {{tsundere}}, not to mention cocky and snobby too. (For people who don't know... [[http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shaymin_(anime) Shaymin]] are a species of Pokémon, not a human.)
** It wouldn't be the first time a Pokémon acted like a tsundere. That award goes to the shiny Celebi from ''VideoGame/PokemonMysteryDungeonExplorers of Time/Darkness/Sky'', towards her [[BodyguardCrush loyal knight Grovyle]]. (Okay, technically Celebi are genderless, but trust me, this one was female.)
** Also from the anime: Haruka/May. ''Seemed'' awfully sweet compared to the aforementioned Harsh tsundere Kasumi/Misty being Satoshi/Ash's previous companion, but had more than enough tsuntsun to go around when [[AnnoyingYoungerSibling certain]] [[IdiotHero other]] [[TheRival people]] annoy her. [[BerserkButton And stay clear of her food. Even Sweet types can become killbots when their buttons are pressed]].
* Seigaku {{Fangirl}} and local {{Tomboy}} Tomoka "Tomo-chan" Osakada from ''Manga/ThePrinceOfTennis'', [[TomboyAndGirlyGirl contrasting with her girly best friend]] [[ShrinkingViolet Sakuno Ryuzaki]]. Tomoka is very open about her crush-like admiration for "Ryoma-sama," acts very sweet and protective of Sakuno, behaves cheerful and tomboyish towards others in general ''and'' has a borderline SlapSlapKiss relationship with another of Ryoma's friends, local ChewToy Satoshi Horio.
** The manga and the anime show Ryoma's mother, Rinko Echizen nee Takeuchi, as being quite the Tsundere towards her boyfriend and later husband Nanjiroh, before their marriage. Nanjiroh seems to like his girls feisty, too, since he teases Rinko a lot about her [[ACupAngst rather flat chest]] in the first stages of their relationship.
** Eiji Kikumaru can also count as this, for at least one instance. He's usually a happy, bouncy sort of character, but when Oishi injures himself and he is forced to play a singles match, he proceeds to put on his serious and totally wreck his opponent.
%%* Katsumi of ''Manga/ProjectARMS''.
* ''Manga/TheQuintessentialQuintuplets'': Itsuki is this. It doesn't help that Fuutarou's quite an ass by himself prior to his CharacterDevelopment in which he and the youngest quintuplet started on wrong foot, which makes Itsuki's harshness to him somehow justified. She is also the second-to-last quintuplet who accepts him as their tutor (much sooner than Nino does) helped by the fact that [[CutenessProximity she quickly grows fond of]] [[AdorablyPrecociousChild his little]] [[TheCutie sister Raiha]], and their shared circumstances regarding to their deceased mothers who they adore even after death, even ''defending him'' from Nino when she goes too far. She's civil most of the time with Fuutarou until he does or says something that turns her into a ball of temper, like making fun of her BigEater tendencies.[[VitriolicBestBuds They seem to get along much better despite their bickering]], and she's the only quintuplet [[TheNotLoveInterest who does not develop feelings for him]], [[BelatedLoveEpiphany at least not until he's already made his choice]].
* In ''Anime/RomeoXJuliet'', whereas Curio's Harsh male Tsundere tendencies are a bit arguable depending on how one sees [[HoYay his]] [[HeterosexualLifePartners relationship]] with Francisco, TeamMom Cordelia is definitely a Sweet Tsundere towards [[spoiler:Benvolio]].
* Both Misao Makimachi and Kaoru Kamiya in ''Manga/RurouniKenshin'', despite the latter having the [[KimonoIsTraditional looks and garb of a]] YamatoNadeshiko.
** In Kaoru's defense, she has to deal with [[BrattyHalfPint Yahiko]] [[KidSamurai Myoujin]] and [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Sanosuke]] [[HotBlooded Sagara]] on a daily basis, and neither of them ever have anything nice to say. Kenshin is genuinely nice to her and is therefore much less of a pain in the ass for her to deal with, but he '''''does''''' has a bad habit of saying the wrong things at the wrong times, which brings out Kaoru's tsuntsun side like nothing else.
** Kaoru even gets an image song titled "It's Not That I Like You or Anything."
* ''Anime/SailorMoon'':
** Usagi started as a mild version of Sweet. She was a CuteClumsyGirl crybaby, but when Mamoru showed up and teased/criticized her, she went all tsuntsun on him. On the other hand, she mellowed out almost immediately after they got together.
** Naru Osaka becomes a Sweet Tsundere [[spoiler:when she falls in love with Umino, after the terrible death of her first love Nephrite]].
* ''Manga/SamuraiHaremAsuNoYoichi'': Female Protagonist Ibuki is kind, treats others well, and admired by most characters. Except when Yoichi does something [[AccidentalPervert perverted]], or ends up in a compromising situation with another woman.
* [[TheOjou Sawachika Eri]] from ''Manga/SchoolRumble''. She only shows her Tsun-Tsun side to her friends, and Harima.
* ''Anime/ScienceNinjaTeamGatchaman'': Jun "The Swan" is a kind and dedicated girl who cares deeply for her teammates, but she has quite a temper on her as well. Odd example in that her temper is usually set off by adopted little brother [[MouthyKid Jinpei]] or DumbMuscle Ryu's wisecracks rather than her crush Ken.
* In {{Yaoi|Genre}} series ''Manga/SekaiIchiHatsukoi'', we have Ritsu. He's normally a nice, friendly, and helpful guy to everyone he meets. However, when it comes to his boss/ex-boyfriend from high school, Takano, he turns tsuntsun on him. This is because Ritsu vowed to never fall in love again and a misunderstood moment that led to the two breaking up.
* ''Anime/SonicX'': Amy Rose will start off as sweet and gentle, but will later become nasty due to her occasional [[MoodSwinger mood swings]] and will use her trademark hammer on anyone who's enraged her the slightest. Particularly the only thing that sets her off is when Sonic does his own thing instead of spending time with her. By the Metarex saga, she [[{{Flanderization}} graduates to Harsh]] where she is abusive to almost every character.
* ''Manga/SoulEater'': If [[LargeHam Black*Star]] does end up with Tsubaki, it would stand to reason that his relationship with her is like this -- he's very nice to her, but a bit of an ass to everyone else in the beginning.
** Arguably, Maka Albarn. She's generally sweet and nice... Until Soul does something stupid. Or you mention her [[BerserkButton lack of chestage]].
* ''Manga/SpecialA'': Hikari Hanazono has shades of Sweet. While usually a GenkiGirl, she has her tsun moments when coming to terms with her feelings for Kei.
* The main character of ''Manga/SukiXSuki'', Touka, is generally kind to all around her, with the exception of Ryoutarou. Touka has sincere feelings for Ryoutarou and her hostility comes from her getting nervous when face to face with him. The manga's plot focuses on Touka's ability to become invisible at will being used primarily to hover over Ryoutarou as much as possible and express the feelings she can't say openly, oblivious to the fact that Ryoutarou's the one person who ''can'' see her.
* ''Anime/TenchiMuyo'':
** Another possible "matured" Tsundere is Princess Ayeka. She attempts to put on a dignified personality, but is certainly suppressing violent tendencies (even in the OVA, where she has a much sweeter personality). The trigger for her adoption of her dere personality? The loss of her {{Love Interest|s}} [[BrotherSisterIncest and half-brother]], Yosho. Of course, she targets her violence out on to her rival rather than her {{Love Interest|s}}.
** This seems to be the main LesYay argument put forward for Ryoko and Ayeka.
** Kiyone sometimes is interpreted as one as well. Particularly in her relationship with Mihoshi (who from Kiyone's perspective might be considered a weird form of TheRival combined with TheLoad). Since Mihoshi is a GeniusDitz, the constant clash is widely interpreted as LesYay.
* In the ''Anime/TigerAndBunny'' drama [=CDs=], we see that Kotetsu's ''wife'' was {{Tsundere}} towards him, at least when they were still in high school. When she [[FirstNameBasis started calling him by his first name]], for example.
-->'''Kotetsu''': Um, uh... did you just call me...\
'''Tomoe''': Ah! Um! I-I-I just thought Kotetsu T. Kaburagi [[BadLiar w-was too long, so I thought I would give you a little nickname!]]\
'''Kotetsu''': But Kotetsu's my ''real'' name...\
'''Tomoe''': [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial I-It's not like it matters or anything!]]
* Kazuki from ''Manga/TonaGura'' is shown in the beginning to be a nice girl who is looking to her childhood friend moving back next door. Her "tsun-tsun" side emerges upon discovering that said childhood friend had grown up to become a pervert. Later, though, she [[spoiler:remembers that he had always been somewhat like this, even as a little boy, which he largely still acts like. She also finds that she has become somewhat more uptight than she was. Mind you, this hardly solves everything. The indication at anime's end is that he will try to be more playful but respectful than perverted, and she will try to be just serious, rather than angrily decrying his nature at every turn]].
* Kosumo from ''Manga/TowaKamoShirenai'' is textbook Sweet. She's kind and gentle, but if you do something she dislikes, she ''won't'' hesitate to call you out.
* Asako from ''Manga/UshioAndTora''. She's nice and friendly to everyone, except Ushio. {{Lampshaded}} by one of her classmates.
* Alicia Melchiott of the ''Anime/ValkyriaChronicles'' anime adaptation has this early on, complete with calling her love interest Welkin "baka"! Of course, she only switches to tsundere mode at specific instances and she definitely mellows out.
** Similarly, whenever we see Edy Nelson, another member of Squad 7, she's beating up on poor Homer. She's definitely more tsuntsun, though.
** Those two characters are also the ones with the most well defined GirlishPigtails. Coincidence?
* ''Manga/{{Vassalord}}'': Charley is normally a very nice person -- religious, kind, considerate...except when it comes to his "master" Rayflo, who brings out the tsun in him big time. Rayflo even comments "Cherry, sweet and kind to everyone...everyone except me that is!" Still, Charley obviously has affection for him, however badly he tries to hide it.
* Ai Amano from ''Manga/VideoGirlAi''. Note that she was ''not'' supposed to be a Tsundere -- until Youta played her video in a broken VCR. Len Momono from ''Video Girl Len'' fits a bit more.
* Kaori Miyazono from ''Anime/YourLieInApril''. She's normally nice and cheerful, but she's still short-tempered and prone to violent mood swings.
* Ayano Sugiura from ''Manga/YuruYuri'', a stereotypical example. She's nice to everyone, but she's always confrontational to and keeps saying stuff like "I'm not doing this for you!" to Kyōko Toshinō. Her most obvious moment is when she bought a pudding for Kyōko (while characteristically denying it), got ice cream from her in return, and just stored it in the fridge so she could look at it every day.
* Keiko Yukimura from ''Manga/YuYuHakusho'', kind and helpful towards everyone unless she's dealing with Yusuke. And even then, the possibility of having Yusuke seriously hurt or dead sends her into tears, if not into an HeroicBSOD.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Unsorted (May have mixed traits)]]
* ''Manga/AhMyGoddess'' has a couple of examples:
** Sayoko is something of a split case [[DependingOnTheWriter depending on the medium]].
*** In the manga, she initially tried chiseling in on [[NiceGuy Keiichi]] and [[MagicalGirlfriend Belldandy's]] relationship as one of many ways to spite Belldandy (who became the new "queen of Nekomi Tech," as Sayoko put it). She would later warm up to Keiichi, and stopped interfering in his relationship with Belldandy, but kept trying (and failing) to upstage her.
*** The animated incarnation itself is something of a mixed bag. In the OVA, she had all of ''one'' {{Jerkass}} moment; the rest of the time she's fairly nice, to the point of giving Keiichi advice. In the TV series, she starts out quite rude to Keiichi and goes out of her way to ruin Belldandy. She outright falls for Keiichi after receiving the full force of his NiceGuy personality (and failing to manipulate him). She reluctantly gives up on him when she realizes he'll never return her feelings. She still wants to upstage Belldandy, but she and Keiichi stay friends.
** Skuld, Belldandy's younger sister, is a non-romantic, but probably straighter, version. She's a little ''too'' attached to her older sister, and will usually play dirty to keep her close ('''especially''' where Keiichi is concerned), but has her sweet moments, even when not with Bell or her love interest, Sentaro. Like Sayoko, she varies, from a {{Yandere}} to just a BrattyHalfPint, depending on the incarnation, which is why she's more apt for the "Other" folder.
*** Regardless of incarnation, Skuld tends to have a ''very'' short fuse where Urd is concerned, and their fights are responsible for the majority of collateral damage in the series.
* ''Manga/AiKora'':
** Sakurako is Sweet; she's normally a nice girl, but Maeda's idiocy and perversions tend to bring out the worst in her. Aloof and hot-headed ninja-girl Kirino is a clear example of Harsh; in the [[ValentinesDayEpisodes Valentine's Day chapter]], Kirino [[ThroughHisStomach whips up a veritable feast of confections for Maeda]], but insists that she was making ''giri-choco'' ("duty chocolate" given to co-workers or close male friends) and got carried away. Then she insists he eats it all and not let it go to waste.
** Parodied in chapter 15, where Maeda is baffled as to why one of the most popular waitresses at the [[CosplayCafe maid cafe]] is the grumpy Asagiri, while the suddenly ''moe''-obsessed Shibusawa waxes on her appeal.
* ''Manga/AliceQuartet'': Makino likes Yukino very much, but gets extremely defensive about it whenever it is pointed out.
%%* In ''Manga/{{ARIA}}'', it seems to be a Himeya characteristic: Akira, Aika and Hime all are tsunderes.
* ''Anime/{{Bakugan}}'': Runo is constantly fighting with Dan, to the point that their lovers' quarrels often get in the way of the Battle Brawlers' battles. [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend Of course, neither one of them wants to admit that that's what these fights are]].
* ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'': Farnese starts out as tsuntsun, she's clearly attracted to Guts from the moment they meet but the fact that he saw her in a rare moment of total vulnerability during a demon attack, alongside his status as an enemy of the Holy See, initially fill her with murderous rage. After following him to Albion and having to be rescued by him from the Mock Eclipse she renounces her faith, joins his band and is tacitly appointed as Casca's caretaker, which gradually turns her into a total deredere, as remarked by Serpico, she even seems ready to give Guts up if the way she helped Schierke heal Casca is anything to go by.
* ''Anime/BrainPowerd'':
** Hime Utsumiya is a huge Tsundere to male lead Yuu. The two of them flip-flop quite often around each other, and at first never seem to really get along, leading to Yuu's frustration over not understanding why she takes offense at things like [[spoiler:the stolen kiss during their reunion]]. Later on, however, the two built mutual respect that eventually solidifies in love.
** Higgins Saz from the same series can be considered a Tsundere as well. She usually seems aloof and antisocial, and will pointedly ignore people who haven't earned her respect, while seeming still quite distant to others who did. However, she cares about people a lot, and drops her cold facade when around her beloved or her best friends, especially Kanan.
%%* Meg in ''Anime/BurstAngel''.
* ''Manga/BusoRenkin'': While it [[DownplayedTrope becomes less prominent as the series progresses]], Tokiko can become angry whenever Kazuki does something really stupid, but she still cares for him and can be very sweet when he does well.
%%* ''Manga/ChronoCrusade'':
%%** Rosette is a [[GenkiGirl super-genki]] Tsundere-cum-ActionGirl.
%%** Satella also qualifies.
* ''Manga/TheDangersInMyHeart'': Both on the surface and in his head, Kyōtarō Ichikawa is sour, dismissive and deconstructive about nearly every casual activity. Some of his inner monologues even include classic Tsundere lines. When he actually admits to enjoying something, he’ll either have a matter-a-fact or wishy-washy tone about it. That said, he's too nice and [[ShrinkingViolet too shy]] to be [[FirstPersonSmartass openly "harsh"]], and his actions display how kindhearted he truly is.
* ''Manga/DearS'': Neneko. Though she's a lot more subtle about it than most, preferring to yank Takeya's chain (mainly by making him do stuff for Ren) instead of directly attacking or insulting him.
%%* Both Ami Kurimoto and Karin Aoi from ''Manga/DNA2''.
* ''Manga/DNAngel'':
** Riku. Through the magic of SiblingYinYang, her twin sister Risa is deredere-er than her.
** It's also implied that the main lead's mother, Emiko, was somewhat like this when she was younger: whenever a boy tried to confess his love for her, she would respond that she would go out with him on one condition: "When we're married, we have to have a boy!" When the boys got understandably flustered, she'd angrily insist on the condition.
%%* Nanami and Miz Mishtal in ''Anime/ElHazardTheMagnificentWorld''.
* ''Manga/FlyMeToTheMoon'': Chitose is very hostile towards Nasa, but seems worried about him when she learns that [[spoiler:his apartment burned down]].
* This was originally Ranpha Franboise's personality in ''VideoGame/GalaxyAngel''. This was modified into a general overbearing romantic and gold-digging streak in [[Anime/GalaxyAngel the television series]], probably because tsundere [[ImprobablyFemaleCast need a boy]] to emote at.
* Mika Seido in ''Anime/{{Geneshaft}}'', who throughout the series yells at pretty much everyone at one time or another, especially [[spoiler:her captain Hiroto Amagiwa whom she holds personally responsible for the death of her friend punching him in the first episode only to be the one who is always by his bed when he's greatly injured, although claiming it's a ''TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou'']].
* In one episode of the second series of ''Manga/{{Genshiken}}'', the guys are taking a break together while at a major anime/manga convention and, in the course of discussing erotic games, start figuring out the plot path to Tsundere and fellow club member Chika Ogiue as if she was a character in such a game, even calling her a "Tsundere" explicitly. Said Tsundere is actually listening in all this time, and getting more and more frustrated with her conflicting desires to both confront them and avoid being noticed, because she swore up and down that she had no intention of going to the con.
* ''Manga/{{Gintama}}'': Gintoki is capable of deploying tsundere strategically, such as when he outsmarted other guys in the toilet episode in Kyuubei arc, or when he wooed Kyuubei in a group date.
* ''Manga/GirlfriendGirlfriend'': Saki is uncomfortable about expressing her emotions (especially in public), and because of this she will sometimes fall into stock tsundere behavior.
* ''Manga/GreatTeacherOnizuka'':
** Urumi Kanzaki had a number of these moments... though a bit of a {{Yandere}} streak as well.
** Anko Uehara started to develop into this when she began to fall for Noboru Yoshikawa. Before she was merely a bully jerkass.
* In addition to the aforementioned Nagi, ''Manga/HayateTheCombatButler'' has several others who are or, strangely enough, ''become'' tsundere. Hinagiku is the most prominent, but Sakuya, Athena, and occasionally Maria at least have moments of this. Then the side characters start taking a crack at it... Whenever a character is more on the "tsun" side, their "dere" side is likely to scare Hayate even more since he isn't expecting it, and [[ObliviousToLove has no idea what it means]].
** Hinagiku herself is an interesting mixed case. She is actually "dere" by default and is popular at school for her kindness. But for the first part of the manga she showed her "tsun" side quite often since she was interacting mostly with Hayate and was in complete and utter denial of her feelings for him. Once she realized it for herself she began to mellow out. Lately, she's mostly in a friendly, neutral state and goes into blushing "dere" or flustered "tsun" moments based on Hayate's actions.
* ''Manga/HeavensLostProperty'':
** Tomoki is always going on about how he's annoyed by Ikaros causing trouble and claims he could never develop feelings for a girl with wings, yet he gets depressed when Ikaros tells him she wants to leave him and blushes when she's acting cute.
** Nymph loves Tomoki and wants him to be her new master, but that doesn't stop her from getting angry and violent towards Tomoki when he's being a gross pervert or when she's simply flustered about him.
** The older Harpy twin is a very gruff woman and finds Tomoki's perversion annoying, but develops a soft spot for his kindness.
** Astraea can act abrasive towards Tomoki, calling him stupid and hitting him when he's acting like a sex offender. She eventually does admit she has come to like him for his kindness, although she tries to say it's only friendship despite all the blushing.
* A very ironic case: In ''Anime/HeroicAge'', the Silver Tribe are StrawVulcan[=s=], that handle their emotions to selected individuals. [[spoiler:After she gets better, Yuti La can't handle her emotions to Prome O anymore, and she becomes a Tsundere, perhaps Sweet, over Karkinos]].
* ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers'' has quite a few examples. England and South Italy are very obviously Harsh, and WordOfGod is that Germany is, too. Switzerland also shows definite signs of ([[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend past and vigorously denied]]) Harsh toward Austria, and fans have speculated that America is being [[MasterOfTheMixedMessage subtly tsundere]] toward England. Then there's the aforementioned Sweet Seychelles. As it's a manga about countries, and countries go to war, there are few other Sweets.
%%* Miyabi Johou in ''Manga/HighSchoolDebut''.
* ''Manga/IBelongToTheBaddestGirlAtSchool'': Yukata constantly gets exasperated and violent towards Matsuri, but it's obvious she loves and respects her greatly.
* ''Literature/IsThisAZombie'': Haruna. When it comes to Eu, she's a straightforward example. When it comes to Ayamu though, she's an enigma of emotions. She can and will be harsh, but she has also been nice to him without a hint of embarrassment or the denial that a tsundere often shows when expressing their "dere" side. It almost seems like she lacks the common sense to know how to be tsundere around him.
%%* ''Manga/KaguyaHime'': Mayu.
* Oh boy, ''Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar''. While all the characters clearly have distinct personalities, motives, and traits, one could argue that ''every student council member is a tsundere,'' and even some characters outside the student council as well. Here are the strongest examples:
** The female protagonist, Kaguya Shinomiya, is one of the most distinct, but also kind of played with. Starting off, she would seem like more of the "tsun" type; cold, meticulous, and very closed off. As the series goes on and her crush on Miyuki becomes more blatant, the "dere" side of her becomes more apparent, wanting to make the president as happy as possible while also opening up to other people. Her newfound gentleness clashes with her cold persona so hard, that internal conflicts are represented as arguments between [[AnthropomorphicPersonification personifications of those traits:]] Ice Kaguya (tsun) and Idiot Kaguya (dere).
** The male protagonist, Miyuki Shirogane, is a less straight forward example, but still clearly shows tsundere traits. Like Kaguya, he usually does his best to hide his feelings through a condescending attitude and harsh remarks, but unlike Kaguya, he doesn't do this to everyone; only those he gets competitive with or annoy him. Compared to Kaguya's "tsun" coming from her harsh studies and powerful family, Miyuki's "tsun" comes from his need to show power despite coming from nothing (as he is one of the rare students that was not born into money) and an insecurity of people thinking poorly of him. However, because he isn't as bogged down in family politics or social needs, he is overall more approachable than Kaguya, and is [[MagneticHero able to get along with just about anyone in the cast]] as long as he's not trying to save face.
** Yu Ishigami is another strange example, as he is normally a fairly lax character, not usually wanting to intrude on others' problems. However, if he's even a little agitated, he becomes [[BrutalHonesty the most brutally honest character in the series.]] Ishigami is normally at his most "tsun" when interacting with Fujiwara and Iino, the former of which being borderline despicable with her antics, and the latter of which because his own antics end up anger her, and her harsh personality pisses ''him'' off. On the flipside, his "dere" side shows more often whenever people show him support, most notably with Kaguya, Tsubame, and [[BelligerentSexualTension Iino whenever they manage to get along.]]
** Miko Iino is arguably the most straight forward example in the student council, even when compared to Kaguya. Her strong, rather naive sense of justice makes her act "tsun" with people who are breaking rules, [[ByTheBookCop even the mundane ones]] (which is normally what causes her clashes with Ishigami, who's normally very lax when it comes to minor rules). However, it doesn't take much to get on her "dere" side; just a few light compliments, and she'll become incredibly nice to the compliment giver (given that she doesn't hate them). All of this likely came about because of her [[ParentalNeglect parents' general lack of presence in her life,]] as her sense of justice makes her feel connected with them, but she is also mentally starved for acceptance and comfort.
** Unlike the rest of the student council, Chika Fujiwara is the least likely to be described as a tsundere. In fact, she is by far the most "dere" character of the council in their debut. But as time goes on, she does in fact grow a "tsun" side, and it is [[JerkassToOne exclusively towards Miyuki.]] After Fujiwara trains Miyuki in many, many skills (that he always starts terribly at), [[BrokenPedestal any and all respect for him is lost,]] and she tends to be especially mean to him. [[spoiler:She can't even bring herself to accept him going out with Kaguya (for Kaguya's sake, ironically) and openly announces that she will try to ruin their relationship.]]
** Outside the student council, the most blatant example is Maki Shijo. As Maki [[AscendedExtra appears in the series more regularly,]] it becomes apparent that she is set as a {{Foil}} for Kaguya, so their personalities turn out to be fairly similar. Like Kaguya, she normally acts cold and condescending to most people she meets and carries a prideful aura around her, but unlike Kaguya, she is not as difficult to approach, so she starts with more friends at the beginning of the series [[HopelessSuitor (although she's not so lucky in the love department)]]. Ishigami even calls her "Tsundere-senpai."
%%* Hanazono Karin from ''Manga/KamichamaKarin''.
* ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple'': [[AnimeChineseGirl Ma Renka]] starts out pretty aggressive, beating Kenichi up just because he doesn't "focus in one style" of martial arts. However, she quickly falls for him and begins showing it openly, while acting rather passive-aggressive to her love rival, Miu.
* ''Manga/KimagureOrangeRoad'' has our heroine Madoka Ayukawa who is considered as the root of the tsundere archetype. A thoughtful, deep and emotional MoodSwingingSweetheart, she's an incredibly good-hearted and selfless person, and actually a very NiceGirl, but when others make her angry she's [[GoodIsNotSoft not soft at all]]. It's in her moments of anger that she comes across as abrasive, and pissing her off is sure not a good idea. Madoka is also very reserved, and doesn't trust others very easily. She's more likely to fall into the ''deredere'' category, but she's a complex character and it's hard to say which type she really is. The traits as a tsundere are not extreme, but they're still there.
* ''Manga/KomiCantCommunicate'':
** Manbagi starts becoming one towards Tadano, starting in Chapter 136 when she expresses anger after getting embarrassed when Tadano compliments her appearance without her over the top makeup. Chapter 194 implies that [[spoiler:she drops the act altogether, as she admits to herself that she likes Tadano.]]
** Yamai's groupies think Yamai is one, but is reality, she's a {{Yandere}}. She starts acting Tsundere towards Nakanaka in the second year, however.
** Chocolate the cat is an animal example. She's a cranky PerpetualFrowner, but actually likes coddling up to Komi, although she tells her underling cats that she's only doing it out of pity.
* In a rare male example, Ritsuka from ''Manga/{{Loveless}}'' is something of a {{Tsundere}}, though he certainly leans more toward the tsuntsun than the deredere. There's also female examples in Nagisa, who is conspicuously tsundere for Ritsu-sensei, and maybe Kouya as well.
* ''Manga/LovelyComplex'': Risa Koizumi exhibits this behavior, but that is mostly due to the [[MasterOfTheMixedMessage indecisive and hard-to-read behavior]] of her love interest.
* Akira Kogami from ''Manga/LuckyStar''. Her ''dere'' side is just a facade she puts up on ''[[ShowWithinAShow Lucky Channel]]''. Her ''tsun'' side is TERRIFYING; it's no wonder that [[spoiler:her co-host Minoru completely snaps in episode 21]]. She is definitely no sweet Tsundere as she is a BitchInSheepsClothing.
%%* ''Manga/LudwigRevolution'': Lisette, the Red Riding Hood, combines this with {{Yandere}}-ish traits, but gets better at the end of the manga.
* ''Anime/MartianSuccessorNadesico'': Ryoko Subaru, whose similarities to a more mature and professional [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Asuka Langley Soryuu]] [[{{Expy}} are not entirely coincidental]] (it becomes a full-blown ActorAllusion in the dub). Arguably, Akito acts this way toward Yurika, as a rare male example.
* ''Manga/MermaidMelodyPichiPichiPitch'': Hanon takes the standoffish approach toward DoggedNiceGuy Nagisa.
* Mana from ''Manga/MermaidSaga''. Her type is a bit difficult to place. She swings between being mostly headstrong and stubborn and mostly childish and naive, with moments of the opposite sprinkled in. Probably has something to do with the fact that she was raised like a princess by a group of mermaids who secretly planned to eat her.
* ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED''
** Princess Cagalli Yula Athha has definite Tsundere moments, mostly when around the male leads, although she seems to have grown out of it [[BreakTheHaughty (in a way)]] by ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Gundam SEED Destiny]]''.
** For a male example, there's Yzak. He spends most of ''Seed'' as a {{Jerkass}} who has a chip on his shoulder because Athrun is team leader and not him. However, despite his hostility, he does grow fond of Athrun, and it's learning about Dearker's association with the Archangel that causes Yzak to begin questioning his orders. By the time of ''SEED Destiny'', he's fully embraced this role when it comes to Athrun. When Yzak sees Athrun, he yells at him about not being the one to give orders anymore... but smiles when Athrun takes the leadership role anyway. Similarly, he charges into Athrun's room when he's pulled from his duties to show Athrun around, but expresses his fondness for Athrun when he suggests Athrun rejoin the ZAFT forces after.
* The concept is parodied in ''Manga/MonthlyGirlsNozakiKun'', when SequentialArtist Nozaki sketches a character who switches between sweet and cold between each panel on the same page. The others remark that the character needs to seek help.
** There is a direct example, though. Wakamatsu is...strange. He's normally a [[{{Keet}} very sweet guy]].... except to Seo. He's scared of and annoyed by Seo, but he loves Lorelei. Thing is, Lorelei is Seo's pseudonym. This would normally put him in [[LovesMyAlterEgo another category entirely]], but for some reason, he felt uncomfortable when he thought Seo had a boyfriend... So really, Wakamatsu is a "Soft" tsundere in the sense that he's dere-dere to everyone but Seo brings out his tsun-tsun side, but he's also "Harsh" tsundere towards Seo herself.
* ''Manga/MyBrideIsAMermaid'': Lunar mellows into this in the second half of the series. She'll openly flirt with Nagasumi, but violently deny actually liking him, while she claims to hate Sun despite it being clear that Sun is very important to her.
* ''Manga/MyMonsterSecret'':
** Asahi and Mei have a brother-sister version of this, acting harsh and dismissive to each other when everyone can tell that they really do care about each other.
** Nagisa evolves into one of sorts after her feelings for Asahi awaken, only the "tsun" part isn't her denying her own feelings, but simply being completely unable to keep her composure when she's alone with him. More generally, she's constantly switching between her calm and gentle demeanour and her Hot-Blooded rants.
** Genjirou is this towards his daughter. He keeps on insisting that he doesn't care for what she does, yet flies to her in a hurry if he thinks anything happened to her (or is happening between her and Asahi).
* It's almost difficult to determine which category the title character from ''Anime/NadiaTheSecretOfBlueWater'' falls into, because of the conflicting depictions of her personality. In the canonical episodes (1-22, 31) she is an anti-social loner who distrusts humans, meat, and has a very bad temper. But she mainly has NoSocialSkills--she doesn't know how to act around other people. Even so, she finds herself growing to care for Jean, the boy who demonstratively shows how much he cares for her. Even though there are moments when she loses her temper at him (undeservedly), she often seems to feel guilty and tries to do something reconciliatory (he always forgives her). In fact, when Nadia isn't brooding over her relationship with Jean, she goes out of her way to do something nice for him, although she doesn't feel comfortable about admitting how she feels about him. She is completely transformed by the end of the series into a genuinely caring and trusting young woman [[spoiler:and marries Jean]]. On the flip side, she is ungrateful to Nemo and even openly insults him and his crew for "killing injured people" (who in fact, are her ''enemies'', the Neo-Atlanteans). (We find out that she became like this because of poor parenting and a tragic childhood.) On the other hand, in the island/Africa episodes, Nadia is portrayed as a completely unlikeable JerkAss, losing all of her sympathetic traits and being almost chronically nasty to Jean (especially episodes 24-27 and 29). She even betrays him (cruelly and very [[AssPull inexplicably!]]) in the Africa arc (episodes 32-33) after admitting he's more important to her than the Blue Water. [[CanonDiscontinuity Except that none of this actually happened. These episodes were never supposed to be part of the show in the first place. The final five episodes quickly disregard them]].
* ''Franchise/{{Naruto}}'':
** Sakura Haruno in Part 1 is tsun-tsun towards Naruto, the anime (of both Part 1 and ''Shippuuden'') tend to [[{{Flanderization}} exaggerate]] this. By the end of Part 1 and throughout Part 2, after a bit of CharacterDevelopment, she becomes more gentle, appreciative and caring of Naruto [[TrueCompanions as a friend and teammate]], but still has a short temper with him. In ''Manga/NarutoGaiden'', she is shown to be very sweet, protecting and caring towards hers and Sasuke's daughter, Sarada Uchiha, but she is still prone to rage-fits, like when Sarada asks her if she is indeed married to her father, [[{{Understatement}} she doesn't take it very well]].
** Kushina, Naruto's mother, was very violent as a child, and disliked her future husband, Minato, for assuming he was weak and undependable. She eventually acknowledged him as strong ninja after saving her and would later marry and have a child with him. In meeting her son for the first time, she punched him on the head for making fun of her laugh, and the AlternateUniverse version of her even broke down a door in fury in the ''[[Anime/NarutoTheMovieRoadToNinja Road to Ninja]]'' movie after Naruto [[DisproportionateRetribution refused to eat dinner with him]]. Otherwise, she did seem to mellow out after getting married, but never quite lost her temper.
** Kurama, the Nine-Tails is very tsun-tsun towards Naruto. Same also with Shukaku to Gaara and his predecessor (the Suna Monk).
** From ''Manga/{{Boruto}}'':
*** Naruto and Hinata's eldest son, Boruto Uzumaki, is very tsun-tsun towards his father, due to his resentment for the lack of attention his father gives to him and his family [[WhenYouComingHomeDad because of his duties as Hokage]], but he deeply loves his father and pretends to begrudgingly accept his invitation to eat ramen with him, and on another occasion after learning that his father is coming home for dinner Boruto acts all tough and uncaring, while his mother and younger sister, Himawari, [[FunnyBackgroundEvent share a knowing smile in the background]].
*** Sasuke and Sakura's daughter, Sarada Uchiha, is tsun-tsun towards Boruto, as she easily gets annoyed by him, and they are shown constantly bickering. But at the same time it's shown that she actually enjoys teasing him and keeping him in check, further situations strongly imply that she actually has a crush on him.
*** Chouji and Karui's daughter, Chocho Akimichi, is revealed to be one in the Anime Episode 67, when after using her Butterfly Super Mode, Chocho becomes slimmer and more attractive, and catches the eye of an actor she has a crush on; throughout the episode she acts all aloof and uncaring of him... while constantly tending to his needs.
* ''Manga/{{Nichijou}}'' teacher Kana Nakamura gradually develops a tsundere attitude toward coworker Manabu Takasaki as random events convince her that he has a crush on her. Her thoughts about him are consciously dismissive, but she tends to become flustered when they interact.
* In ''Anime/{{Penguindrum}}'', Ringo Oginome seems to be this for Shouma Takakura. Specially seen when, in the same scene, she expresses relief that [[spoiler:Shouma wasn't seriously hurt when he took a DivingSave for her]], and then beats him herself when he calls her "fool" for [[spoiler:giving up half of her Destiny Diary to save him]], specifically telling him how worried she was for his safety. Her type isn't 100% clear, so we're leaving her among the unsorted examples by now.
* ''Anime/{{Potemayo}}'': Guchuko is completely this for Kyou. Her method of showing appreciation is to leave freshly slaughtered livestock on her desk or front porch.
* ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'':
** Akane Tendo is infamous for this trait, but actually switches ''between'' the Sweet and Harsh archetypes depending on who she's interacting with. When she's interacting with most people, she's polite, soft-spoken, forgiving and generally kindly, only exploding in her iconic fits of rage when truly provoked -- [[PervertRevengeMode usually due to a person acting like a pervert]]. When she's interacting with ''Ranma'', by comparison, she's far more aggressive and temperamental, defaulting to bickering, snarking, teasing and angry outbursts that can range from simply yelling at Ranma to hitting him with a MegatonPunch or [[HyperspaceMallet a convenient random object]]. Only on rare occasions does she express to him her sweeter, gentler side in general, or her love for him in particular.
** The anime gave Shampoo some rare moments that made her come across as a bit of a tsundere towards Mousse, in contrast to the manga where she really seems to just hate him. For the most part, she treats Mousse with naked disdain, but she has done ''some'' nice things for him over the anime series, even if these are often immediately walked back. The most notable example is the second NonSerialMovie where Shampoo looks genuinely worried about Mousse after he defeats one of the EliteMooks to save her.
* ''Manga/RentAGirlfriend'': On the clock, Chizuru is very sweet-natured. Off the clock, she acts pretty coldly towards Kazuya and dismisses his feelings for her, but she does help him when he's in a pinch, tries to give him some heartfelt advice when he's down, and tends to call him stupid whenever she's touched by his actions.
* ''Manga/SayonaraZetsubouSensei'':
** The "returnee" student Kaere Kimura falls into this category, while conflating it with bipolar. She has reconciled her Japanese heritage with her time spent in an ambiguous foreign country by splitting her personality into a stereotype for each -- the perfect Japanese YamatoNadeshiko and the [[BoisterousBruiser loud foreigner]] [[FrivolousLawsuit who threatens to sue over every problem]]. The "dere" side is in love with the teacher, while the "tsun" side threatens him most often.
Manga FanGirl Harumi Fujiyoshi is quick to reply that it is, since the dere side can be "filled in by imagination." So true, indeed.
* Tsukiumi from ''Manga/{{Sekirei}}''. At the start, she refuses to accept Minato as her Ashikabi, or master, going so far as to try to kill him once they meet. After Minato protects her and calls her his Sekirei, Tsukiumi immediately switches over to deredere, accepting Minato and deciding that she is now his wife. Of course, when she finds out that Minato has [[UnwantedHarem three other Sekirei]], who she sees as rivals in love, she flips back to tsuntsun. She's usually more tsun then dere as both the manga and anime go on, usually only going dere when she's alone with Minato.
* In ''Manga/SgtFrog'', Giriro is most definitely ''tsundere'' for Natsumi, trying to always be aloof around her despite his huge crush. Natsumi herself has an odd, platonic sort of ''tsundere'' relationship with, of all people, Keroro. She complains constantly about the chaos caused by "the stupid frog" and his platoon, and bullies and abuses him at the slightest provocation. When Keroro gets in real trouble, however, Natsumi shows she really does think of him as family.
* ''Manga/SlimeLife'': Darul tries so hard to come off as a "tough but fair" style boss, despite only keeping Slime around because he's adorable. Even if we weren't privy to her inner monologue, it would be apparent from her blushing expression and affectionate gestures that all she really wants is to give Slime a big hug.
* ''Manga/SpyXFamily'': Twilight is a tsundere, according to his own adopted daughter Anya.[[note]]Which [[FridgeLogic makes you wonder]] where she learned that word, since she's at most 6 years old and Japan may not even exist in this world. Most likely it's a TranslationConvention.[[/note]] He tries putting on a stoic face, but secretly enjoys being thanked for his work (an unusual thing for a spy).
* ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'': Yoko Littner is tsun-tsun in the early episodes with her behavior towards Kamina -- initially yelling at and chastising him for his reckless behavior. This stops the moment they kiss and establish a relationship. After [[spoiler:his death]], she becomes generally levelheaded, logical, reasonable and kind, but can get hotheaded if provoked, even using the stereotypical "baka" in the original Japanese dub.
* ''Anime/TigerAndBunny'':
** Barnaby is usually very aloof and leans more towards SugarAndIcePersonality than tsundere; his ''tsun'' tendencies are fairly few, but when he ''is'' in that mode his HeterosexualLifePartner Kotetsu has managed to get a smile out of him once or twice (which he, of course, hides).
** Kotetsu (yes, the same guy who was mentioned both in the previous example and the ''dere'' folder above) has something of a knack for drawing out the tsundere in those who're fond of him; proven by the fact that Karina [[SmittenTeenageGirl (who has a huge crush on him)]] has also displayed such tendencies solely where he's concerned. Because she's equal parts tsun and dere, she can't really be classified.
%%* ''Manga/{{Trigun}}'': Meryl.
* As implied by the title, the ''Tsuyokiss - Cool x Sweet'' anime and game take this to the natural extreme, giving the ''whole'' cast this personality type.
%%* ''Anime/TwinPrincessOfWonderPlanet'': Altezza.
* Karin and Soyogi from ''Manga/UmiNoMisaki''... though, if you'd been brought up to sleep with some dude you don't know, you might develop a cranky side too.
* ''Manga/UruseiYatsura'' has two prominent ones:
** Lum is credited as the first tsundere[[note]]She isn't, that's [[Anime/MazingerZ Sayaka Yumi]][[/note]] even though [[UnbuiltTrope she exhibits less of its archetypical characteristics]]. It should be noted that, unlike most tsunderes, Lum's problem is '''less''' with Ataru being a pervert and more with him being ''unfaithful'' -- perhaps because she's similar, she understands his desires to see girls naked or go on dates, she just wants him to do all that with ''her'', rather then chasing after random women in the street. She is still a bit bad-tempered and [[ClingyJealousGirl *very* possessive of him]], zapping him with electricity whenever he hits on other girls.
** Ataru is probably the first ''male'' tsundere, towards Lum. In addition to being a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, he does actually love Lum, but hates to show it — he's still 17 and [[CommitmentIssues does not want to be tied down just yet]]. The fact he does is seen most clearly in the episode where Lum has to return home for several days to renew her passport and in the ''[[Recap/UruseiYatsuraBeautifulDreamer Beautiful Dreamer]]'' movie. Lum herself is actually aware of this thanks to a listening device in a doll of herself from the aforementioned episode.
* ''Manga/ValXLove'': Natsuki is brash and rude towards Takuma, and won't stop reminding Takuma of how mediocre he is as an Einherjar, but never hesitates to save his skin when she needs to.
* ''Manga/WanderingSon'': Chiba has swayed between the two. She was originally Sweet, a sweet but blunt elementary student who had somewhat of a temper. After a few volumes, she evolved into a Harsh type. Currently she's somewhere in the middle.
* ''Manga/YuunaAndTheHauntedHotSprings'': While Kogarashi normally averts this, his de-aged 11-year-old self acts unfriendly towards Yuuna because he still thinks all ghosts are evil and suspects Yuuna only wants to possess him. When he finds himself getting concerned about her, he reminds himself he shouldn't trust a ghost and pretends to not care about her.
