* {{Abandonware}}: On March 27th, 2023, the Wii U [=eShop=] closed down for good, and bringing the final death of the Wii U itself with it. ''Xenoblade Chronicles X'' is one of the very last remaining system exclusive games on the console that never got ported off the system by that date. While retail discs for the game itself can still be bought second-hand, the closing of the [=eShop=] means it is now impossible to download the game's data packs that most players found essential to enjoy the game to its fullest extent[[note]]The data packs install much of the world data into the Wii U's internal memory, greatly reducing load times[[/note]].
* AscendedMeme:
** In perfect modern Treehouse/8-4 tradition. The "Classic" (Shulk) option (and a couple of others, like the Rebel option) for Rook will, in fact, mention "really feeling it" during combat.
** An early NPC asks you to [[Creator/SatoruIwata "Please understand"]] about the delay in getting the West Gate open.
* AllStarCast: For a J-game that doesn't use all-UsefulNotes/{{union|s in Hollywood}} talent, the English language track features a wide variety of [=VAs=], such as Creator/CaitlinGlass, Creator/CassandraLeeMorris, Creator/CarrieKeranen, Creator/MichaelSinterniklaas, Creator/MatthewMercer, Creator/PatrickSeitz, Creator/CindyRobinson, Creator/KirkThornton, Creator/MelaLee, Creator/KaijiTang, Creator/{{DC Douglas}}, Creator/DougErholtz, Creator/JoshGrelle, Creator/CheramiLeigh, Creator/AlexisTipton, Creator/KiraBuckland, Creator/RobbieDaymond, Creator/BenjaminDiskin, Creator/ErinFitzgerald, Creator/KateHiggins, Creator/YuriLowenthal, Creator/MaryElizabethMcGlynn, Creator/BrycePapenbrook, Creator/TaraPlatt, Creator/KeithSilverstein, Creator/CristinaValenzuela, Creator/DanWoren, Creator/BrianBeacock, Creator/LaurenLanda, Creator/EricaMendez, Creator/ChristopherCoreySmith, Creator/JulieAnnTaylor, Creator/KyleHebert, Creator/StephanieSheh, Creator/ChristineMarieCabanos, Creator/WendeeLee, Creator/AmandaCelineMiller, Creator/MichelleRuff and Creator/SpikeSpencer.
* BadExportForYou: The American Special Edition includes a USB stick, but it only includes ten tracks from the OST and comes with clumsily-implemented UsefulNotes/{{DRM}}, which effectively only allows it to be run on a Windows PC and can corrupt some school or business networks. At least it looks cool.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: Several sites, such as [[http://www.siliconera.com/2015/09/15/xenoblade-chronicles-x-will-include-axana-boze-hb-and-yelve-for-free-in-the-west/ Siliconera]] and [[http://www.dualshockers.com/2015/09/15/xenoblade-chronicles-x-character-dlc-will-be-free-outside-of-japan-strategy-guide-detailed/ Dualshockers]] reported Lynlee's age had been changed to 15 for the western release. This is factually incorrect, since Elma plainly says she's still 13 years old during her introductory scene in the English version ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x76rbrcyjNE @7:14-8:01]]). [[spoiler:The confusion actually stems from a question around the character ''herself'', since it's unclear if she was thirteen at the time of her BrainUploading and is now "eternally 13" as a mim (despite being chronologically fifteen), or if she was ''eleven'' at the time and has been "growing" via mim updates.]]
* {{Defictionalization}}: [[https://frontiernav.net/ FrontierNav]] (an interactive video game map viewer and data repository) takes its name and inspiration from this game, and has since expanded to include the rest of the ''Xenoblade'' series and many other games.
* DuelingWorks:
** Loosely with ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV''; ''Xenoblade Chronicles X'' supporters claim Monolith Soft is stepping in the right direction by enhancing and/or fixing elements from the previous installment, all the while attracting newcomers to the EasternRPG genre, whereas ''Final Fantasy XV'' is alienating its own fanbase and [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks changing its formula too much]]. Regardless of the reasons, FandomRivalry between ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' and ''Xenoblade'' (including [[VideoGame/{{Xenogears}} its]] [[VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}} predecessors]]) are inherent.
** A looser one with ''VideoGame/Fallout4'', due to being a Eastern and Western WideOpenSandbox released around the same time and being sequels to [[VideoGame/Fallout3 critically]] [[VideoGame/XenobladeChronicles1 acclaimed]] titles, and being mutually exclusive releases (''Fallout'' releasing on the PC, [=PS4=], and Xbox One, while ''Xenoblade'' is exclusive to the Wii U).
* FakeBrit: Celica has a British accent in the English dub, but is voiced by American voice actress Creator/MelaLee. Averted with the Classic Avatar voice choices, those being the extremely British Creator/AdamHowden and Carina Reeves of the original ''Xenoblade'' cast.
* OrphanedReference: The lyrics for "Black Tar" still refer Skells as "Dolls" outside of Japan.
%%No citation* TroubledProduction: The development team for this game was relatively inexperienced, and had a great deal of difficulty implementing the multiplayer mode on top of the open world map, with discussions on whether to scrap it altogether because implementing it was proving so troublesome. Reportedly, the game's development was so chaotic that several staff members have admitted to nightmares about it.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The closure of the Wii U [=eShop=] has made purchasing this game digitally impossible. If you had previously purchased it, it can still be re-downloaded, but you'll otherwise need to find a physical copy to play this game.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The game was originally going to have a fixed main character, but was changed halfway through development due to the addition of online play. Concept art of the original protagonist resembles Yelv.
** According to the developers the project got so out of hand, especially after the decision to add multiplayer, that the amount of content cut and changed rivals the entirety of the three ''Xenosaga'' games, the series of which they come from was infamous for its TroubledProduction.
** Concept art of planet Mira shows that it was originally going to be bigger, with more continents, an orbital space station, and an enormous tower located at its north pole. Strangely, it also appears to have dark purple "cracks" in its surface. There's also what appears to be a second human city on the opposite side of the planet, "New Tokyo". Many fans hope that if a sequel emerges, some of these might be made into elements of it.
** The Qlurians were originally going to have a much bigger part in the story, but were almost entirely absent from the game in the end. The only remnants of them are Celica, a brief mention of the Trion Barrier being their technology, and the Neilnail Skells that can be fought in a Time Attack mission.
