1	* DisownedAdaptation: With Jeb Bush at least: He personally was critical about how the film portrayed his relationship with Dubya and felt that if Stone wanted to enforce more of the complexities of his family, he should have interviewed them to do so. On the other hand, Brolin did confirm that Dubya did see the film and "liked it very much" and "thought there were sad moments."
2	* DawsonCasting: Both played straight ''and'' inverted by the same actors. At the time of filming, the cast consisted of 40-year old Creator/JoshBrolin playing Bush in college and during the presidency, 34-year old Creator/ElizabethBanks as Laura Bush, 35-year old Creator/ThandiweNewton as Condoleezza Rice and 42-year old Creator/JeffreyWright as UsefulNotes/ColinPowell. The only major actors somewhat close to the age of their characters are Creator/JamesCromwell as Bush Sr. and Creator/RichardDreyfuss as UsefulNotes/DickCheney.
3	* DeletedScene: Creator/MichaelShannon had a scene as the preacher who converted Bush to evangelical Christianity that was deleted in the final cut.
4	* DoingItForTheArt: Both Creator/OliverStone and Creator/JoshBrolin turned down their salaries for the movie (which was understandably difficult to find financing for), and the movie ''still'' ended up having to be made for $5 million less than what was originally projected.
5	* DyeingForYourArt: Creator/JoshBrolin lost about 20 pounds in order to better play Bush as a college student, and then had to gain it all back in order to play him in Middle Age.
6	* FakeAmerican: English Creator/TobyJones ably reproduces Karl Rove's Colorado accent, while English Creator/ThandiweNewton makes an effective, if broadly-drawn, Condoleeza Rice.
7	* HostilityOnTheSet: Creator/RichardDreyfuss and Creator/OliverStone didn't get on. Dreyfuss labeled Stone a fascist, while Stone said that working with Dreyfuss was the worst experience he'd ever had with an actor.
8	* TheOtherMarty: Creator/ChristianBale was supposed to play Bush, and even had makeup tests done, but dropped out at the last minute, saying he was afraid he wouldn't be able to accurately play the President.

11	** Creator/HarrisonFord and Creator/WarrenBeatty were offered the role of George Bush Sr.
