* AdaptationOverdosed: As of the time of writing, Touken Ranbu has accumulated mixed media in the form of four anime adaptations (''Anime/ToukenRanbuHanamaru'', ''Anime/KatsugekiToukenRanbu'', ''Touken Ranbu Kai'', ''Wanpaku! Touken Ranbu''), three animated movies based on ''Hanamaru'', a CompilationMovie for ''Hanamaru'', two live-action movies, several musicals, several stage plays including a Kabuki stage play, a Hack-and-Slash video game that also received a novel and manga adaptation, and more manga adaptations and anthologies than this TV Tropes page can keep track of. A film adaptation of ''Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu'' is also in the works, although it's been in DevelopmentHell since 2017.

* AscendedFanon:
** The Dategumi[[note]]Tsurumaru Kuninaga, Ookurikara, Shokudaikiri Mitsutada[[/note]] had become so popular as a group in the fanbase that upon Taikogane Sadamune's implementation in 2016, they canonically were given interactions in the game and across the adaptations. There's even a stage play dedicated to their history (with Mikazuki Munechika and Yamanbagiri Kunihiro along for the ride).
** Mikazuki Munechika and Kogitsunemaru being so popularly paired in the fandom and spin-offs likely also contributed to the pair receiving in the browser interactions after Kogitsunemaru's Kiwame.
** White Mikazuki and Black Tsurumaru, {{Palette Swap}}s of the characters representing corrupted verisons of themselves, were present in the fandom via various fanworks for years until becoming incorperated into the official stage play adaptation. May also count as AscendedMeme.
*** In 2020, [[https://twitter.com/orangerouge_pr/status/1308934493265375234 Black Tsurumaru]] got an official Orange Rogue nendoroid. [[https://twitter.com/orangerouge_pr/status/1346788014509469696 White Mikazuki would later follow him in 2021]].
* BackedByThePentagon:
** In the katana exhibit of the Royal Swedish Armory, there are Mikazuki Munechika and Tsurumaru Kuninaga figures displayed alongside various other figurines of katana wielding characters from other {{Anime}}-based franchises.
** The Tokugawa Art Museum in Nagoya City has also [[https://www.tokugawa-art-museum.jp/area/ collaborated with the game for 2021]]--especially as a few of the RealLife swords that served as basis for characters actually reside in the museum.
** In general, museums now frequently collaborate with Touken Ranbu for viewings, often placing standees of the Touken Danshi that correspond with the RealLife sword on display. This has famously drawn in more people to these museums, also increasing tourism in the areas where these viewings take place.
** Kodaiji Temple, founded by Mikazuki Munechika's former owner Kōdai-in and where she was initially laid to rest, supports ''Touken Ranbu'' and owns several pieces of ''Touken Ranbu'' merch, including Mikazuki Munechika and other swords. Nitroplus also donated a replica sword of Mikazuki Munechika to the temple in January 2024, which the temple decided to display for visitors between the end of April and the end of May of that year.
* BadExportForYou: The defunct US version of the game had a few problems. The theme songs of the swords when set as Attendant were notably absent as well the instruments meant to obtain them, and the translation was iffy in some places, at times looking as though it was machine-translated.
* CashCowFranchise: It quickly developed into one for Creator/NitroPlus the year after it's initial release and is still going strong nearly ten years later. Even some of the games adaptations have become major cashcows of their own.
* ColbertBump: Like its [[VideoGame/KanColle sister series]], ''Tourabu'' got thousands of fans interested in the history of the blades featured in the game, as well as the historical figures attached to them. Some of this renewed interest even led to fan funded reforging and reconstructions, as was the case for swords like the ''[[https://nijimen.net/topics/12316 Hotarumaru]]'' and [[https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2017-07-31/touken-ranbu-inspires-yagen-toshiro-tanto-reforging/.119554 Yagen Toushirou]].
** A replica for Mikazuki Munechika had also been made and displayed with the intentions of potentially showing fans what the Tenka Goken may have looked like when it was first was forged.
** Nitro+ is well-known for using the series' popularity to benefit worthy causes. Notably, Sanchoumou was incorporated into ''Touken Ranbu'' in 2020 as a collaborative effort to assist Setouchi City in acquiring ownership of the sword through crowdfunding after years of the city's attempts to raise funds to purchase it fell through. By the end of the crowdfunding campaign, it was purchased for a whopping 4.7 million dollars, and is now now in the care of the Bizen Osafune Japanese Sword Museum.
* CrossDressingVoices: Played straight in the Creator/{{Funimation}} English dub of the anime adaptation where Imanotsurugi, Maeda Toshiro, Namazuo Toshiro, Akita Toshiro, Midare Toshiro, Nakigitsune and Sayo Samonji are voiced by Creator/AnastasiaMunoz, Ryan Reynolds, Creator/RachelRobinson, Creator/JadSaxton, Creator/AlexisTipton, Creator/AlisonViktorin and Creator/MorganBerry respectfully, but averted in the original Japanese version where the entire voice cast is male. They are voiced by Creator/DaikiYamashita, Reona Irie, Creator/SomaSaito, Creator/YoshitakaYamaya, Creator/KazutomiYamamoto, Creator/ShintaroAsanuma and Creator/AyumuMurase respectively.
* DuelingDubs: The anime adaptations have two dub casts: One from Creator/{{Funimation}} for ''Anime/ToukenRanbuHanamaru'' and another from Creator/AniplexUSA for ''Anime/KatsugekiToukenRanbu''.
* FanCommunityNickname: In Japan, female fans of the game are called "Touken Joshi".
* FollowTheLeader: Similarly to ''VideoGame/KanColle'', there have also been several {{Card Battle Game}}s made in an attempt to ride off of the coattails of the game's success as well as a few non-Card Collector games that borrow from the concept. However, again similarly to ''Kancolle'' and the games that came after it, none of them have reached nearly the same level of popularity as ''Touken Ranbu'' has.
** There are ''two'' [[GenderFlip sword girl]] games: the {{Moe}} ''Shinken!!'' (which terminated its service in September 2017) and the [[HotterAndSexier cheesecake]] ''Tenka Hyakken'' (servers were terminated on August 2021).
** ''Senjuushi'' also personified historical weapons as cute boys and handsome men, this time being firearms from all over the world. The effect is something like ''Touken Ranbu'' [[JustForFun/XMeetsY meets]] ''Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers''. Sadly, the game for this one ended service the year after its debut, and its anime adaptation was a critical and commercial flop.
** ''VideoGame/BungoToAlchemist'', where the player is a librarian in a MagicalLibrary reincarnating dead writers from the late-modern period as good-looking men to enter the literature universe to fight enemies. This gives it similarities to ''Manga/BungoStrayDogs'' as well.
** In 2018, DMM announced ''VideoGame/NamuAmidaButsuUtena'' (service terminated in August 2020) as a game about personification of Buddhist figures into handsome men. While the idea is different from ''Touken Ranbu'''s personification of weapons (it's more or less like ''VideoGame/BungoToAlchemist'' above), it is worth mentioning that the gameplay and set-up is remarkably similar while taking several liberties in item equipment, and strengthening upgrades, alongside new features such as two attendants, the Friend feature and furniture decoration. An anime adaptation aired in 2019, which plays rather similarly to ''Anime/ToukenRanbuHanamaru''.
** Chinese mobile game ''VideoGame/TheTaleOfFood'' combines elements from ''Touken Ranbu'' and ''VideoGame/FoodFantasy''. Unlike the games above, it has seen some success in its home country, but not so much Japan.
* FromEntertainmentToEducation: Owing to the game's impact on pop culture, the museum industry, and the resurgence of interest in Japanese swords, ''Touken Ranbu'' and its characters are often utilized in educational settings to teach people about the history of the swords and the owners of them.
* LateExportForYou: Being hosted on a Japanese website meant that for a long time, foreign players had to jump through quite a few hoops to be able to play it. In January 2021, six years after the game's original release, an official EN version was announced for preregistration.
* MeaningfulReleaseDate:
** [[https://twitter.com/tounyan_tkrb The Tounyan Danshi series]], which is a series of merchandise that sees the Touken Danshi turned into cute cat boys, went live on February 22, 2023, which is Cat Day in Japan.
** Touken Danshi Kashagiri was released on January 16th, or 116, the same number that Ookurikara, a fellow Hiromitsu sword, is listed as in the game.
* TheMerch: Being a CashCowFranchise for DMM and Nitro+, ''Touken Ranbu'' receives a bunch of merch regularly ranging from over a dozen Toys/{{Nendoroid}}s, figures, dolls, pens, make-up, teas, perfumes, bags, shoes, plushies, dresses, you name it, there's probably Touken Ranbu merch of it. They've also made a life-sized figure made of Mikazuki Munechika.
* NoDubForYou: Unlike the anime adaptations, no English voice acting was used for the runtime of the US version.
* TheOtherDarrin: Unlike the Touken Danshi, who have the same voice actors in all of their appearances (in the Japanese versions, anyway), Konnosuke's voice actor changes every time he appears in a work. As of the time of writing, he has been voiced by:
** ''Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu'': Creator/TakumaNagatsuka (Second unit Konnosuke), Creator/NoriakiSugiyama (First Unit Konnosuke)
** ''Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru'': Creator/YuukiShin (Zoku, Successor Konnosuke), Creator/NobuoTobita (Original Konnosuke)
** ''Touken Ranbu Musou'': Creator/KappeiYamaguchi
* PortmanteauSeriesNickname: "Tourabu". It doubles as a PunnyName, as the characters that make up the nickname (とうらぶ) can be read aloud as "Sword Love". Though the "Tourabu" name is pretty much official (some characters will actually say "Tourabu" while the screen loads, and the official store for TheMerch is called 'Toulove Store').
* PromotedFanboy:
** Creator/ArinaTanemura, famous for her {{Shojo}} series such as ''Manga/FullMoon'' and ''Manga/PhantomThiefJeanne'', made doujinshi for ''Touken Ranbu'' before being commissioned to make an official HighSchoolAU Manga for the series.
** Yana Toboso ([[JustForFun/OneOfUs famous]] for being the creator of ''Manga/BlackButler'') used to draw and post ''Touken Ranbu'' fanart on some of her social media platforms. She would later draw cover pages for two of the official manga anthologies, illustrate a chapter of one of them, and eventually get to design a character for the game: the tantou Hyuuga Masamune.
** Since his debut as a voice actor, Inoue Yuki had always wanted to voice a Touken Danshi, first making contact professionally with the ''Touken Ranbu'' franchise as a voice actor for Mori Ranmaru in the anime ''Touken Ranbu Kai''. He would later fulfill his dream of playing a Touken Danshi after being cast as Taikei Naotane in the browser game.
* ReferencedBy:
** The live action special of ''Anime/{{Ojarumaru}}'' features thinly-veiled expies of Mikazuki Munechika and Kogitsunemaru as extras.
** The Anime ''Anime/WotakoiLoveIsHardForOtaku'' makes several references to the series, as Narumi is shown to be a fan of Kashuu Kiyomitsu, and has a keychain of him, as well as him set as her phone wallpaper, while Hanako cosplays as Shokudaikiri Mitsutada in episode 3. In the film version, there's also cosplayers of Mikazuki Munechika, Tsurumaru Kuninaga, and Yamatonokami Yasusada dancing in the crowd.
** In the Manga ''Manga/KissHimNotMe'', there is a fake series that is a thinly veiled reference to ''Touken Ranbu'' called Kacchu Ranbu, which has personified armor instead of swords.
** In episode 18 of the Chinese drama series ''Walk Into Your Memory'', one of the characters attends a cosplay party dressed as Mikazuki Munechika.
* StaffCreatedFanWork: Many of the games character designers will post their fan art of them on Twitter. These are often officially endorsed by [[WordOfGod Digitarou]], who retweets them.
* TouristBump: ''Touken Ranbu'' is well known for having boosted tourism in Japan by reviving the culture of visiting museums, increasing the number of people visiting shrines, and even attracting tourists to certain cities where they travel specifically to see their beloved swords in person. Because of this, a lot of shrines and museums have started collaborating with the series, sometimes even adopting the Touken Danshi as the real-life equivalents of these swords to draw more visitors and sustain their businesses.
* WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings: There have been a few incidents where artists have been attacked for not being able to create new art for the characters over the course of the browser games' existence. Most infamously, [=Sata3=], the artist of Mikazuki Munechika and Kogitsunemaru, was unable to draw Anniversary sprites for the characters and was harassed so badly on Twitter that they were forced to write an lengthy apology/explanation just to get fans to calm down. Since then, the official TKRB_HT Twitter account has prefaced tweets about new art admonishing users not to harass or message the artists about these things.
* WordOfGod:
** According to Digitarou, president of DMM, executive producer of ''Touken Ranbu'', there is no set canon in the ''Touken Ranbu'' universe, so anyone's interpretation of Honmaru is valid to them.
** Digitarou once expressed interest in creating a FightingGame for ''Touken Ranbu''. While this game hasn't yet come about, ''Touken Ranbu'' did eventually receive a Warriors game in the form of ''VideoGame/ToukenRanbuWarriors''.
** During a Sakucon panel in 2017, Digitarou clarified a number of setting lore points that aren't fully covered in the game:
*** The events of ''Touken Ranbu'' take place in 2205, during a global crisis that has severely affected the world's population. After learning of the tsukumogami legends, the Government of Time started employing Touken Danshi to make up for the lack of human warriors available.
*** The panel also reveals the goals of the Historical Retrograde Army, which are never explained nor explored in any other work. Their goal is to make the past different so that the current state of the world never happens, thereby bringing peace and happiness back to the present. The Government of Time and Touken Danshi oppose them because they think the past should be preserved and learned from and another way to fix the present should be uncovered.
*** The original Nagasone Kotetsu, which was brought onto the panel, is actually a wakizashi. The game's Nagasone was made into an uchigatana to fit the general legend of Kondou Isami owning a Kotetsu uchigatana, thus being an intentional deviation.
*** ''Touken Ranbu'' is a work that is open to interpretation, so Digitarou decided that it would be best to provide two anime adaptations from the outset. This way, they could prevent the situation where viewers would watch one ''Touken Ranbu'' anime and come away either loving or hating it. While ''Katsugeki'' was meant to be more "exciting," ''Hanamaru'' was meant to be lighter and softer in order to accommodate different interpretations of the characters.
*** He says he that loves all the swords, but that Muramasa has a special place in his heart, likely referencing to his owning a real Muramasa blade.
*** When asked if ''Touken Ranbu'' will have a marriage system like ''VideoGame/KanColle'', he says they'll consider it, as he wants a system like that, too.
*** When asked how many swords to expect, he says there should be at least 100 total. By 2024, the game has exceeded that number.
*** He explains that the reason ''Touken Ranbu'' has so many adaptations and mixed media is because they wanted diversity among the formats.
