* AcclaimedFlop: Not nearly as badly as many other examples, but despite its beautiful animation and well-received story and characters, the film only had middling success at the box office. This was partly due to poor marketing (Ed Catmull, Disney's president, admitted that putting "Princess" in the title [[GirlShowGhetto made it seem as though the movie was only for young girls]]), poor release timing (the film debuted just five days before the release of the box-office shattering ''Film/{{Avatar}}''), and the fact it was a 2D animated film (which were seen as [[AnimationAgeGhetto kiddie trash]] compared to the "edgier" animated films made by Creator/{{Pixar}} and Creator/DreamWorksAnimation, at least in the States).
* ActorInspiredElement: Tiana is left-handed. The left-handed Creator/AnikaNoniRose insisted.
* ActorSharedBackground: Just like his character Eli "Big Daddy" La Bouff, Creator/JohnGoodman is a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana.
* CelebrityVoiceActor:
** The biggest names in the cast are Creator/JohnGoodman, Creator/OprahWinfrey, and Creator/KeithDavid. Emeril Lagasse is in there too, as a crocodile who yells "[[CharacterCatchphrase Bam]]!" a lot.
** In the Mexican Spanish dub, Dr. Facilier is voiced by the comedian VĂctor Trujillo, through Trujillo had previous voice acting experience, being well-known for being the dub voice of Lion-o in ''WesternAnimation/ThunderCats1985''.
* CompletelyDifferentTitle:
** Germany: ''Kiss the Frog''
** Japan: ''The Princess and the Magic Kiss''
** Spain: ''Tiana and the Frog''
* DeletedRole: Composer Music/RandyNewman was originally going to voice the turtle that appears during "When We're Human", and was going to say "You sure 'bout that?" multiple times throughout the song. The dialogue was cut and the turtle ended up being mute. Then the filmmakers created an otter character for him to voice, before Newman ended up having a one-line cameo as Ray's cousin [[TheDanza Randy]].
* DuelingMovies: Disney released ''The Princess and the Frog'' against 20th Century Fox's ''Film/AlvinAndTheChipmunks: The Squeakquel'' and ''Film/{{Avatar}}''. Disney fans, as well as non-Disney animation buffs, question how Disney could have made such a big mistake.
* FanCommunityNicknames: Zealous followers of this movie are called "Froggers".
* FontAnachronism: A newspaper dated 1926 is printed in Times New Roman, which would not be designed until six years later.
* GenreKiller: Not in the literal sense, but Disney banked their interest in returning to do Traditional Animation films by how well ''Princess and the Frog'' performed at the box office. It did ''okay''. ''WesternAnimation/{{Tangled}}'' came out the next year and gave Disney their highest numbers since ''WesternAnimation/{{The Lion King|1994}}.'' The next 2D animated film, ''WesternAnimation/WinnieThePooh2011'', was the real last-ditch attempt before Disney finally gave up on 2D. For now. Their next traditional animation film would be ''WesternAnimation/TheBobsBurgersMovie'' in 2022.
* MilestoneCelebration: The 10th anniversary received a surprisingly large amount of hype, from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences hosting a special screening/cast and crew reunion, to Creator/WaltDisneyHomeVideo releasing an Ultra HD version of the movie (the DAC's first hand-drawn movie outside of the Signature Collection's Renaissance-era entries to receive the latter treatment).
* PopCultureUrbanLegends: That Disney made Tiana less overtly Black by putting her curly hair in a top-knot. The supposed "ConceptArt" is actually fanart by a French artist from before the film even came out.
* ProductionPosse: The movie was directed and co-written by Ron Clements and John Musker, known for their work on movies like ''WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}}'' and ''WesternAnimation/{{Hercules}}'', both of which also have Corey Burton, Jim Cummings, and Frank Welker voicing major and supporting characters, just like this movie.
* ThrowItIn
** Originally, the plan was for Naveen to say "That's new" after his vocal sac inflates suddenly in a surprised tone of voice (i.e. "Whoa, that's new.") However, Bruno Campos said the line in a suave tone of voice, making the scene arguably much funnier (especially since his new tone of voice makes it sound more like "That's a new feature", in other words, that he's trying to pretend he already knew about it).
** When Creator/{{Jim Cummings|1952}} sang Leon Russell's "Cajun Love Song" during his audition, it was so perfectly on-key that the filmmakers used the audio from it for a scene where Ray is randomly humming to himself.
* StuntCasting: The Latin American Spanish dub had a curious example of this: Tiana was voiced by Mexican voice actress Mireya Mendoza, who, at the time, was a fledging voice actress from the Cuernavaca pool of voice actors, rather than using a celebrity or an actor from Mexico City, as traditionally Disney use when dubbing in Mexico, and, at that time, Mendoza only had secondary or minor roles under her belt, mostly on dubbing {{Anime}}, including [[Manga/YuYuHakusho Keiko Yukimura]], [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Hilde Schbeicker]], [[Manga/{{Saikano}} Fuyumi]], and others, being this film the first time she voiced the lead. This caused raised some eyebrowns, as Mendoza being for Cuernavaca, many people were afraid she wasn't qualified enough for dubbing a Disney film in a lead role, as Cuernavaca voice actors had, and still have, a reputation on having an uneven level of acting, compared with those from Mexico City. Luckily, her acting in this film was widely praised by local audiences.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** In the very first version of the story that was released online, the heroine was a chambermaid named Maddy (short for "Madeline") who worked for a SpoiledBrat rich woman who later evolved into [[SpoiledSweet Charlotte]]. Civil rights groups took umbrage with the racist implications of a black girl being a chambermaid and about the name "Maddy", as it sounded too close to the word "mammy".
** In an earlier script, Dr. Facilier wasn't just a dark wizard who wants to conquer New Orleans with the help of his Friends on the Other Side -- he would have been Mama Odie's ''son'', who followed the path of the dark arts unlike his mother. In this same script, there was to be a showdown between the two of them, which would have converged into a major battle during the Mardi Gras. Also, Facilier was originally named Dr. Duvalier after Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier, the Voodoo-practicing genocidal dictator of Haiti.
** In early versions, Louis was a human who had been turned into a bayou alligator by Dr. Facilier after wishing to be a 'sharp-playing party animal'. They decided this made the plot too complicated, so they had him just be a regular alligator who played a trumpet.
** A female saxophone player was among the musicians in the jazz band, according to ConceptArt.
** [[http://www.fibble.net/portfolio/images/artwork/corset.jpg Early concept art]] depicted Charlotte with long hair and a large gut that she kept hidden with a corset.
** Music/AlanMenken was originally tapped to do the music for the film, before being replaced by Music/RandyNewman.
** Disney was originally going to digitally ink and paint the film by once again using their old propietery software CAPS, which had been mothballed after ''WesternAnimation/HomeOnTheRange'', but it was too slow for production, so Disney switched to using Toon Boom instead.
** Alongside actresses such as Music/JenniferHudson, Creator/TyraBanks, and Music/AliciaKeys, Music/{{Beyonce}} was initially considered for the role of Tiana, and she was so convinced that she was going to get the part that she didn't even try to audition. Ultimately, Creator/AnikaNoniRose was given the part instead.
* WordOfGod: Facilier's look was modeled on the voodoo god Baron Samedi: he's lean, he wears a top hat and cutaway coat, his logo is a skull with a top hat, and at one point he sports a skull mask. Bruce Smith even describes Facilier as the love child of the Disney Villains Captain Hook and Cruella De Vil.
* WorkingTitle: ''The Frog Princess''
