* AscendedFanon: The Nudality was a recurring rumor in the ''Franchise/MortalKombat'' fandom which ultimately made it into this game.
* CreatorBreakdown: According to an anonymous developer's account, at one point everyone lost their willingness to continue the project and worked on it only to get it over with. By the time they finished, [[ShaggyDogStory it was quietly killed]].
** The point everyone gave up was when the QA testers refused to work on it any more. As many people have put it, "You couldn't ''pay'' people to play this game."
* DummiedOut:
** Going through the sound test reveals that many recorded voice clips for specific characters have not been used, to the point that some characters borrow lines from other characters as opposed to things that they would actually say.
** There are slots on the character select for the first three bosses, but there is no known way to unlock them. There is also incomplete data for Mullah Abba as a playable character, as well as a bizarre static image called "Squid Squad".
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: It was canceled when nearly complete. Only two prototype machines owned by the Professional and Amateur Pinball Association (PAPA) in Pittsburgh and the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Brookfield, Illinois are verified to have survived destruction. For this reason, emulation is the only way it can be played unless you have access to their collections.
* OldShame: Some of the people who worked on this game won't even list it on their resumes.
** Averted by designer and former Data East executive Creator/JoeKaminkow, who embraces the game's [[NarmCharm schlocky lowbrow humor,]] comparing it to ''Film/Plan9FromOuterSpace''.
--->“It’s amazing because here we are 20 years later, and people are still talking about the game, and remembering, and playing it. It’s a cult favorite now."
* ThrowItIn: The coders left the "Happy Thanksgiving!" glitch in, because they thought it was too funny to fix.
* TroubledProduction: [[https://web.archive.org/web/20180210185023/http://gameological.com/2013/04/splattered-ink/ This article written in April 2013]] describes virtually every detail of what made it what it was, most of which had to do with Data East's ailing financial situation that its developers were unaware of for years.
