Context Trivia / SHIMMER

* Corpsing
** On Volume 45 the crowd starts chanting at Portia Perez "Die, Portia, Die!". Watch Cheerleader Melissa trying to keep a straight face when the chant starts.
** On Volume 24 Cheerleader Melissa hits Sara Del Rey with a kick right in the face, prompting Dave Prazak and Portia Perez to lose it on commentary laughing. They even replay the spot twice to giggle at it and Portia asks to see it more times.
* DoingItForTheArt: Besides the initially stated goals such as increasing respect for women's wrestling on an international level being cases of this, Prazak has often chosen to run some cards in the Eagles' Club he knows could fill larger venues simply because the guaranteed sellout allows him not to give the whole card away and reward long time attendees with live surprises. This is why SHIMMER stayed there through volumes 41-44, which were the most stacked cards the promotion had ran to that point and was used to great effect on volume 74, where the wrestlers themselves didn't know Dynamite Kansai and Wrestling/AjaKong were debuting for one last go at a retiring Tomoka Nakagawa.
* DuelingWorks: With for a while, as they were the only two major all-women's promotions in America. As more started appearing, this lessened.
* FollowTheLeader: The success of Madison Eagles - a previously unknown Australian wrestler and one of the few from that country to make it in America - led to promoters essentially asking if there were more Australians who were just as good. This led to the likes of Kellie Skater, KC Cassidy, Shazza [=McKenzie=], Tenille Tayla and Evie (who is from New Zealand but often lumped in with the Aussies) eventually being brought in. Madison's student Jessie McKay also benefited from this.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: SHIMMER's funds are devoted to running new shows and producing new [=DVDs=]. Ordering bulks on out of stock copies is cost inefficient. Retail versions of some shows do exist, if you don't mind quirks like ReReleaseSoundtrack, while [=ClickWrestle=] and subscription services like Flo Sports have done a lot to alleviate this.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Ashley Lane appeared on a couple of tapings playing the same PluckyGirl face role she had played before - but this was alongside the time she was playing the AlphaBitch Wrestling/MadisonRayne in TNA.
** Wrestling/MercedesMartinez turned heel on the rookie Athena around the same time she was the top face in WSU - playing the OlderHeroVersusYoungerVillain set-up with Jessicka Havok.
* SerendipityWritesThePlot: The the ROH SHIMMER partnership was born out of ROH really needing a new revenue stream and seeing many people associated with it in the fledgling SHIMMER. SHIMMER in turn didn't have the ability to run as many events in as many places as ROH, so it was good to get their name out. As soon as neither really needed the other, it was done, though the commentators continued to slip in references to the other.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Rebecca Knox was scheduled to have a 60-minute Iron Woman match with Wrestling/DaizeeHaze on Volume 7. But she suffered a severe head injury. She was later booked for an event in 2008 but no-showed, feeling wrestling wasn't the right choice for her at the moment.
