* ChannelHop: The [[WesternAnimation/RatchetAndClank2016 2016 film]] was distributed by Universal, whereas ''Life of Pie'' was distributed by Sony Animation through the streaming service Crave.
* DisownedAdaptation: In stark contrast to the [[WesternAnimation/RatchetAndClank feature film]] by the same studio, Insomniac Games has never acknowledged ''Life of Pie'' in any capacity. Meanwhile [=PlayStation=] (who own the ''Ratchet & Clank'' IP) only acknowledged the short once in a [[https://www.ign.com/articles/new-ratchet-and-clank-animated-short-is-unrelated-to-ps5s-rift-apart brief article by IGN]], where they simply state that Mainframe made it and that it's not related to ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankRiftApart Rift Apart]]'' or canon to the video games at all.
* InvisibleAdvertising: The only announcement the short got was a [[https://twitter.com/MainframeAnim/status/1360278044829712389 single tweet]] on Mainframe's Twitter account the day it released, with the account then putting out a few more tweets about it over the following weeks. Neither Insomniac nor Crave promoted it, and [=PlayStation=] only acknowledged it to clarify that it's non-canon to the games.
* NoExportForYou: The short is only available on Crave, a Canada-only streaming service. Seeing as it has been years since it was released and with [=PlayStation=] and Insomniac seemingly trying to ignore it, it's unlikely it'll ever see an official release outside of the service.
* SurpriseRelease: The short was released onto Crave on February 14th, 2021 without any prior announcement.
* WordOfGod: As stated above, [=PlayStation=] has confirmed that the short does not exist in the same continuity as the games.
* TheShelfOfMovieLanguishment: Despite its release in 2021, the short was supposedly completed back in 2019 if the end credits are any indication.
