Context Trivia / DragonQuestX

Go To

* AcclaimedFlop: It was well-received, but it became the lowest selling ''VideoGame/DragonQuest'' game in Japan by a wide margin.
** What also didn't help the game was that, due to its implied failure in Japan, as shown below, it never was considered for localization, and in fact, [[ExecutiveMeddling was saddled with an IP block and later it's offline trial was removed.]]
* ExecutiveMeddling: Square Enix seem to be out to sabotage the game's chances of success outside of Japan, after it got a poor reception in Japan.
** The game has an IP block, which means that ''only'' the Japanese player base can play it. The player base rose briefly when the block was dropped for a short period, but they just put it back up again.
*** This is in contrast to many, mostly free-to-play, online games like ''VideoGame/PhantasyStarOnline2'', who apologize to their fanbase when there's ''any'' suggestion of IP blocking except when there is a localized version.
*** Fortunately, the IP block has been lifted in North America, so fans from that region can play the game (albeit in Japanese only). However, unfortunately, the ban still appears to be in place for Europe.
** They effectively skipped it in favor of a protracted localization of ''VideoGame/DragonQuestXI'', which took ''an entire year'' in localization, which would have been easily alleviated by simply releasing this game.
** Another update changed the original offline campaign into a side-quest in the online portion of the game, effectively rendering the fact it was the offline campaign logistically useless, and further incensing the western fanbase who, now, can't even play the game '''''offline''''' any more.
* FanTranslation: There is an ongoing fan-translation for the MMO version of ''X'', which translates the menus and story cutscenes, with the remaining text being machine translated using a custom tool called "[=DQXClarity=]". With this it's now possible to play Versions 1-5 mostly in English.
* MarthDebutedInSmashBros:
** The ''DQ'' Hero's Final Smash in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'' is the first international cameo of the ''Dragon Quest X'' hero.
** Shortly afterward, the Tickington side-quests in ''VideoGame/DragonQuestXI S'' featured the Western debut of the five races, as well as a taste of Nelgel's localized name.
** ''VideoGame/DragonQuestTact'' features the Western debut of various skills and monsters such as Mad Sunder, Slimeshroom, Pickled Slime, [[AdorableEvilMinions Bushy Baby and Acorn Baby]], as well as an event based on the game, which featured the first international debut of Hussar, Mjoll, Maldragora, and Anlucia the Maluminary.
*** The game even gets ANOTHER event based on the game, the True Dragon Quest X event, this time being based on Version 5 of the game, which featured the first international debut of Illusia, Anlucia's Lightning Luminary getup, Valeria, Daviyaga, and the Picky Mole and Old Flame monsters, in addition to Archfiend Shaka and several locations from the Netherworld.
* NoExportForYou: Despite the game being released and re-released on several platforms (including PC and 3DS) after initially debuting on the Wii and Wii U, no news of the game getting an international release was ever made.
** Notably, the PC, Platform/PS4 and Platform/NintendoSwitch versions are effectively region-free, meaning that there is SOME export capability for them, but not much.[[note]]With the [=PS4=] and Switch versions, they released after the removal of the offline trial, never mind that all copies cannot be reverted back to before then.[[/note]]
** And continuing the trend, there are no plans to release the Offline version outside of Japan, either.
* PosthumousCredit: Creator/NorihiroInoue died 3 months before the Version 2 expansion was released, marking it his last voice role in Japanese voice acting.
