2	* {{Corpsing}}: Creator/JanetFielding and Creator/SarahSutton suffered an attack of the giggles while they were filming the final scene, in which their characters were supposed to be grieving for Adric. Fortunately, they eventually managed to regain their composure, enabling the scene to be filmed; the incident is recounted in the "making of" documentary on the DVD.

4	** Creator/PeterDavison felt in retrospect that the SilentCredits on the last episode were overly corny, and that it would have been better to have the normal end credits and theme tune.
5	** While his overall opinion of the story was quite positive despite its notoriously unforgiving shooting schedule, director Peter Grimwade absolutely ''hated'' Malcolm Clarke's incidental score for the serial, and tried to get Peter Howell, whom Grimwade had worked with on "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS19E3Kinda Kinda]]" earlier that season, to provide a replacement.[[note]]Which would have been a bizarre case of HistoryRepeats had he actually done so, given that Howell had previously redone parts of Carey Blyton's score for [[Recap/DoctorWhoS12E5RevengeOfTheCybermen the Cybermen's previous story]] when the production team at the time were unhappy with it.[[/note]] Howell wasn't available, however, resulting in the story retaining Clarke's score.
6	* CreatorsFavouriteEpisode: This was a favourite story among the cast.
7	* EnforcedMethodActing: Creator/JanetFielding let out a real scream when the dying Cyber Leader shoots the TARDIS console, as her hair was hit with sparks.
8	* HostilityOnTheSet: The demands of the shooting schedule caused director Peter Grimwade to frequently come into conflict with the cast, leading to writer Eric Saward later joking that if the prop guns given to the actors had been real guns, Grimwade would have been lucky to survive until the end of the first day of shooting.
9	* MissingEpisode: While reviewing the Doctor's history with the Cybermen, the Cyber Leader refers to the events of "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS5E1TheTombOfTheCybermen The Tomb of the Cybermen]]", but the clip of Creator/PatrickTroughton comes from "[[Recap/DoctorWhoS5E7TheWheelInSpace The Wheel in Space]]". At that point, "The Tomb of the Cybermen" had not yet been returned from Hong Kong and was still missing from the BBC Archives.
10	* PropRecycling: The Cyberscope prop had parts taken from the set of ''Film/{{Alien}}''.
11	* StuntCasting: Creator/BerylReid as [[Franchise/{{Alien}} Ellen Ripley]]-esque space freighter captain, a role that was... not quite what you'd expect to see Beryl Reid playing.
12	* UncreditedRole: In addition to writing the story, Creator/EricSaward also served as script editor. However, he went uncredited due to BBC guidelines preventing him from taking credit for more roles than what he had been assigned, and thus Antony Root, who previously acted as script editor for [[Recap/DoctorWhoS19E2FourToDoomsday "Four to Doomsday"]] and Saward's earlier story [[Recap/DoctorWhoS19E4TheVisitation "The Visitation"]], was credited for the position instead.
13	* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
14	** The original serial for the slot was the wonderfully ambitious "The Enemy Within" by [[Creator/ChristopherPriestNovelist Christopher Priest]] (featuring the Doctor facing off with the TARDIS' power source, a tentacled EldritchAbomination!) but an argument over re-write fees led to Creator/JohnNathanTurner rejecting it and Creator/EricSaward had to write the serial to replace it. Traces of the danger-at-the-centre-of-the-TARDIS idea made it into "Castrovalva", where it was intended as foreshadowing of Priest's story to come.
15	** From the outset, Creator/JohnNathanTurner intended to bring back a recurring villain for the story, and the rest of the production team briefly considered the Daleks for this position. However, he was reluctant to use them, and consequently had them swapped out for the Cybermen, a personal favorite of writer Creator/EricSaward. The Daleks would eventually get their clash against the Fifth Doctor in [[Recap/DoctorWhoS21E4ResurrectionOfTheDaleks "Resurrection of the Daleks"]] (also written by Saward).
16	** There was some consideration of redesigning the Cybermen. Dinah Collin wanted to remove the handlebars on the Cybermen costumes, but Nathan-Turner vetoed that idea as he didn't want to lose the distinct iconography. (Plus fan consultant Ian Levine pointed out that only the Cyber-Controllers were meant to lack handles). Another idea was going to have some visible fluids in the tubes.
17	** Considered for Commander Scott were Creator/ColinBaker, Creator/PeterFirth, Creator/MartinJarvis, Creator/MartinShaw, Creator/PatrickStewart and Creator/DavidWarner.
18	** Creator/EricSaward thought about having the Cyber-Leader survive to face the Doctor another day, showing how this new incarnation was more prone to failing, but it was decided against.
