* BoxOfficeBomb: Budget, $48 million. Gross, $15 million.
* CreatorBacklash: While director Patrick Read Johnson doesn't completely regret the movie, he has gone on to say that he would've changed certain elements if he could, such as removing the kidnapping plot (as he felt the family was unsympathetic) and simply having the baby get loose from a distracted family.
* {{Defictionalization}}: Literature/LittleGoldenBooks published a real-life version of the fictional ''Baby's Day Out'' book as a tie-in with the film.
* HostilityOnTheSet: Writer Creator/JohnHughes and director Patrick Read Johnson butted heads often while filming, especially with how certain scenes would be portrayed or how the baby would physically move. At one point, Hughes went on a walk with Johnson and simply told him "Patrick, just make the fucking movie". Despite all this, the two got along great later on in production, with Hughes eventually saying to Patrick that he was perfect for the job.
* KidsMealToy: Dairy Queen had a set of four children's books in their kids' meals; a sticker book, an activity book, and two pop-up books.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Music/JerryGoldsmith was originally slated to score the film but, because of scheduling conflicts with ''Film/TheShadow'', he was replaced by Music/BruceBroughton.
** A sequel ''Baby's Trip to China'' was planned, but shelved due to the film's financial failure.
** A video game adaptation was planned for the Platform/SuperNintendoEntertainmentSystem, Platform/SegaGenesis, and Platform/GameBoy (and a trailer for it can be seen on the film's VHS release). This game would have been developed by Designer Software and published by Creator/HiTechExpressions. The game would have had you play as Bink's guardian angel and have levels [[EscortMission where you escort him safely to the goal]] [[TimedMission within the time limit]]. This game was never released due to Hi Tech Expressions going out of business in 1995, but [=ROMs=] of the Genesis and Game Boy versions have been leaked online and can be played through either emulation or reproduction cartridges.
