* ActingForTwo: Creator/MarkIvanir portrays Krest and The Doctor.
* CreatorBacklash: Dmitry Glukhovsky, the writer of the books, was ''not'' happy about the game's timed exclusivity fiasco, and spoke out against it on social media. The game's developers similarly issued a statement expressing their frustration, noting that they disagreed with the decision and felt it was unfair to customers who use Steam.
* DummiedOut: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfdM8KQcRUc There is a fully-animated, fully-scripted flamethrower in the game files that didn't make the cut]]. Apart from moderate issues with its fire particles and effects, the flamethrower is entirely usable if modded into a savegame. It officially becomes a usable weapon in the Two Colonels story DLC, wielded by Kiril's father. Similarly, the 15-round magazine and automatic fire system of the Valve, touted in the trailers, did not initially appear in the game.
* ExecutiveMeddling: After accepting pre-orders on Steam for several months, publisher Deep Silver abruptly signed a timed exclusivity deal with the Epic Games Store, pulling the game from Steam until a year after launch (though pre-orders through Steam were still honored at launch). As mentioned above, the developers and even the creator of the franchise were openly opposed to the move.
* SequelGap: The game was released almost six years after the previous game, ''VideoGame/MetroLastLight''.
* UnderageCasting: Creator/AndreSogliuzzo portrays the Baron, who is in his 70s as he was born during the 1960s, while Sogliuzzo was only 51 (born in 1968) during the game's release. [[{{Irony}} Ironically]] Sogliuzzo was born in the 60s.

** Similarly, [[DefeatMeansFriendship Pavel Morozov]] from ''VideoGame/MetroLastLight'' was originally slated to be one of the player's companions for the journey, with his personal mission being to find his grandfather's grave in the Taiga level.
* YouSoundFamiliar: Creator/DaveBMitchell voiced the jokester Ulman in ''2033'' and ''Last Light'', where he voices the BigBad of ''Sam's Story'' Klim.
