!! The franchise in general:
* AscendedGlitch: Backdash canceling (in which the animation for something is cancelled by the backdash, whose animation is then cancelled in turn by that move) for speedy movement and/or fast attacking as of ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaSymphonyOfTheNight'', to the point where some fans judge the "purity" of a {{Metroidvania}} based on how well you can pull it off--even SpiritualSuccessor ''VideoGame/BloodstainedRitualOfTheNight'' has it as a feature.
* CashCowFranchise: ''Castlevania'' is one of the guiltiest in Konami for this; some Konami fans are complaining about the other titles cast aside, such as ''VideoGame/{{Contra}}''.
* DummiedOut: Hammer was going to be playable in ''Dawn's'' Julius mode. A few voice clips hidden in ''[[VideoGame/CastlevaniaHarmonyOfDespair Harmony of Despair]]'' hinted that Hammer may have been planned for that game as well. Unfortunately, no such luck.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: While The GBA trilogy got a CompilationRerelease, The DS Trilogy isn't so lucky and has still yet to see one.
* MythologyGag: Being a LongRunner, these pop up all over the place. But ''Lords of Shadow'' is chock full of these, though they are, in fact, shout outs to the ''Castlevania'' series at large. For instance, part way through the game, Zobek has this to say about the Combat Cross, your main weapon: "The Villagers called him 'God's Savior' and his weapon they called 'Vampire Killer'. Ah, Gandolfi, how that would make you smile." Also, before the fight with Carmilla: "Poor, beautiful Carmilla, you will cry bloody tears before this night has ended!" Many of the boss characters (Cornell, Malphas, Brauner, Olrox, Carmilla) are named after characters from other games. Even the song that plays in the Music Box level (Level 9-3) is the (in)famous theme from the original ''Castlevania'', "Vampire Killer." Creator/MercurySteam went out of their way to include many different shout outs for their reboot.
* NoExportForYou:
** ''Vampire Killer'' on the [=MSX2=]. It doesn't help that the MSX is absolutely nonexistent in North America, making VK even more obscure.
** ''Rondo of Blood'' was like this until 2007; ditto the Saturn version of ''Symphony of the Night''.
* TheOtherDarrin: While the cast post-[=DXC=] has remained largely the same, it was quite a different story for the voice casts on both sides of the Pacific:
** Japanese: Simon has jumped between Creator/HideoIshikawa and Creator/KenichiSuzumura in either ''Judgment'' or ''[=SSBU=]''. Dracula has had the most of these to date, as seen on his character page. Same goes with Death. Alucard has also had a similar situation as Simon, jumping from either Creator/RyotaroOkiayu, Creator/MamoruMiyano, or Creator/ShinichiroMiki depending on the work. His contemporate, Maria Renard, has done similar going from either Creator/YokoTeppozuka, Hekiru Shina, Creator/ChisaYokoyama, Sawa Ishige, Creator/MiyuMatsuki, Creator/ChiwaSaito, and Akari Kitō.
** English: Barring their appearances in ''Captain N'', the voice acting in English began on a SoBadItsGood note with ''[=SotN=]'' continuing into the [=N64=] titles with an English cast based in Japan. ''[=LoI=]'' was when the series began using an American cast for the English voice acting, primarily at Animaze. Death got hit hard with this trope as he went from Tom Wyner in both [=PS2=] games and ''[=PoR=]'', then Creator/PatrickSeitz in both ''[=DXC=]'' and ''[=OoE=]'', Douglas Rye in ''Judgment'' and ''Rebirth'', and then back to Wyner as a RoleReprise in ''Harmony of Despair''. The ''Lords of Shadow'' series meanwhile took a different route by using a voicecast from the UK and Ireland, matching with the European-based team working on the games. The Netflix series has done a similar move with numerous voice actors from across the globe, including of Creator/JasonIsaacs from ''Lords of Shadow'' this time not voicing Satan. Come the aborted Android release and Apple Arcade release of ''Grimoire of Souls'', the English voice cast has returned to being based in Japan, although none of them were in the series prior to this title.
* ReferencedBy: Music/DragonForce has a few songs in the discography that are about games in the series. Marc Hudson, the lead singer of the group, also has a ''Castlevania'' inspired song on his solo album.
* RemadeForTheExport:
** ''Akumajou Dracula'' for the Platform/SharpX68000 was introduced to gamers outside of Japan for the first time as ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaChronicles''.
** Similarly, ''[[VideoGame/CastlevaniaRondoOfBlood Castlevania: Rondo of Blood]]'' made its first (functional, playable) trip outside of Japan as ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaTheDraculaXChronicles''. We don't talk about the [[Platform/SuperNintendoEntertainmentSystem SNES]] ''[[VideoGame/CastlevaniaDraculaX Dracula X]]''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Plans for a ''Castlevania'' cartoon date all the way back to 1989 with concept art for DIC showing it as part of what would eventually become ''WesternAnimation/TheSuperMarioBrosSuperShow''. Said concept art however, seems to have been for an InNameOnly adaptation, showing two modern day kids with Dracula and several other monsters, and not a whip in sight.
** Climax Studios (who were behind ''VideoGame/SilentHillOrigins'') pitched a Castlevania game in 2006 titled ''Castlevania: Next Generation''. As detailed in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2qdVjDtr64 this video]], it was to be a radical departure from the rest of the series; an open-world game taking place in contemporary Venice, with the protagonist being a depressed rock star who takes up the Belmont mantle after the city becomes overrun with masked monsters.
** Internal Creator/{{Konami}} documents faxed to [[Magazine/ElectronicGamingMonthly EGM]] were [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkCWw8KzTYA shared]] in 2021. It hints at many elements that did not make it into the game or even the series at large. For example, Elizabeth Bartley holds a grudge against the Austro-Hungarian Empire due to being captured by a Hungarian king, and the Morris clan is an English branch of the Belmont family that immigrated to America during the [[FortyNiner California Gold Rush]] and [[RagsToRiches got very rich]] via Texan mining operations. It also suggests that [[VideoGame/CastlevaniaPortraitOfRuin a game set in the 1940's]] was already being considered, has more direct connections to the original ''Literature/{{Dracula}}'' novel, mentions abandoned story elements such as the presence of ''three'' magical whips (the Belmonts' {{Excalibur}}, the Morris' [[ExactlywhatItSaysOnTheTin Vampire Killer]], and the disappeared "[[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Death mercury]]"), and includes early bios and a family tree mentioning [[Characters/{{Dracula}} Van]] [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Hercing]] and the cut [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Bolt Ericcson]] as Belmont relatives, among other things.
