1Robert Munsch is known as one of the most iconic children's authors, known for his style of goofy, exaggeration, and kid-friendly stories. But this book stands out as one of the most heartbreaking stories ever written by Munsch. Not helping is the more detailed and powerful art style from Sheila [=McGraw=] (a far cry from Michael Martchenko's cartoony style) and the origins of the story will make you cry.

3* ''Love You Forever'' is guaranteed to make ''any'' mother with a heart cry. The mother in the story would sing "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my baby you'll be" to her son. Years later, when she's on her deathbed, the son sings the song with one word changed that makes it more emotional.
4* When the mom is dying at the end, her son picks her up in his arms and sings "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living, my mommy you'll be." This description cannot do justice to how absolutely devastating that is.
5* ''Love You Forever'' is a picture book. The kind you read to children before bedtime. And yet, it is hard to read aloud. You start to find your voice cracking as you try to speak around the growing lump in your throat. Soon the words on the page begin to blur, until you are gasping out the words in between sobs. The older you get, the harder it gets.
