* The scene where Ferid and Arshtat die.
** Also, Ferid's last words, mouthed just before the Sun Rune obliterates him: "I love you".
** Arshtat completely breaking down once she realizes just what she's done. And then it seems like she just gives up and almost willingly succumbs to the Sun Rune's insanity in her grief. Her final words to Georg are touching, too, thanking him for stopping her, and asking him to watch over her children.

* If you get less than sixty Stars of Destiny, by the end of the game, Lyon succumbs to wounds she received earlier on and dies in the Prince's arms, as she tries to comfort him by saying that everything will finally be back to how they were before the war. By the time Georg makes his way to the scene, the Prince turns his back to Lyon's body, facing Georg and raising both his hands, showing that the Twilight Rune went from Lyon to him. He clenches his fists as though he wishes to crush the runes, tears rolling from his eyes, and Georg gives him a CooldownHug. Somewhat brief, but effective. The good ending(s) where she is resurrected by the Sun Rune is also a TearJerker in a good way.
** When you see the scene of Lymsleia in Sol-Falena crying and wondering why the Prince didn't come back. Cut to the Arshtwal Mountains (or somewhere else equally cold and brutal), where the Prince is wandering. It's implied that he either left Falena to wander aimlessly in sort of a permanent HeroicBSOD -- or that he simply wandered around in the mountains until he froze/starved to death.
** What if someone takes up the Sun Rune again at any point in the future? Without the Dawn and Twilight Runes to control its power...

* Once you realize what Sialeeds really has been up to after her FaceHeelTurn and her death, you would want to comfort her.
** On replays, realizing just when Sialeeds has started coming to the decision to take matters into her own hands, especially when you know that she inevitably winds up dead and considered a traitor by most of the country. She can't even be buried with the family she sacrificed her life for.

* Roy's death scene if you choose the option to defend your castle.

* Near the beginning, you have the Prince finding out the hard way You Can't Thwart Stage One and having to escape -- including possibly being decked and dragged away by Lyon if he refuses to leave without his little sister.

* Sagiri revealing why she always smiles.

* The scene preceding the duel vs Miakis, appropriately titled: "A Tear as Friends Battle", which serves as the apex of an extended BreakTheCutie conga line. Miakis's own heartbreak makes it hard enough, but Lyon's reaction twists the knife, and drives it home. If ever there was a scene that tugged at your heartstrings and made you fell like a complete rat bastard, it's this one.

* When Lymsleia finally reunites with her brother. Rushing over to hug and crying for the first time since before her parents died and being forced into a sham marriage.

* After the Godwin coup, the Prince is resting alone in his room at Lunas. He sits down on the floor, sad music starts to play, and he remembers his dad giving him big bear hugs, his mother's gentle encouragement, and Lym's cheerfulness, and now the first two are dead and the last one is held hostage. It's a bit of a downer until the Prince stands up, determined to fight.
** Fail to meet the requirements for Lym's events being nice to her and it still becomes a downer in the end instead of the Prince standing up.
** During the coup, Sialeeds breaking down when Georg tells them Arshtat and Ferid are dead. Up to that point, she's been fiery, snarky, and dignified. Hearing her near tears is quite jarring.

* After Lym's coronation, Lucretia is alone in the War Room, and asks the Prince a pointed question: Could he raise a sword against his sister? Choose the bottom option, and sad music starts to play as the Prince shakes his head sadly. For a HeroicMime, the Prince's facial expressions are vivid, and heartbreaking.

* Bahram Luger's death. Despite keeping a cool head at first, Raja then burst into tears, saying the greatest sin a student can make is to die before their master does. It doesn't help that Luger was the most sympathetic and human opponent of the prince. He always seemed very uncomfortable with the Godwin's less than savory actions and the player could have hoped that he would do a HeelFaceTurn.

* Finally restoring Lordlake by destroying Hatred Fortress is touching, and very satisfying, especially since you know the true story of the uprising by that point.

* A few characters can die during war battles. This is sad enough on its own, but other characters who were close to the deceased will often leave heartbreaking letters asking why they had to die, and many of them will even leave your army for good out of grief. Perhaps the worst examples are Norma and Ernst, who will both not only leave a letter and depart if the other dies, but the dying character will spend their last moments thinking only of the other.

-->If Norma dies:\
Norma: Oh... No, not yet... Ernst... Who will look after you... now..?\
"Forgive me" (from Ernst): When I lost Norma I wa ted (The rest is illegible.)

-->If Ernst dies:\
Ernst: Grr... rrr... Nor... ma...\
"Goodbye" (from Norma): I'm sorry, Prince. With Ernst gone, I'm afraid I can't stay here anymore...

* Retso and Shun Min. When you look at them, they look like just a pretty normal and happy father-daughter relationship, and especially Shun Min, who usually cried if the fishes were not fully eaten, meaning that they die in vain. Sounds pretty normal... unless you already played VideoGame/SuikodenII and knew that no matter how peaceful the family may be, they're destined to not last, when Retso eventually came in contact with Jinkai, and knowing his evil intentions, Shun Min stole his recipe to prevent its misuse and got killed, turning Retso from a loving goofy dad to a bitter chef who's not even above using dirty tricks to get what he aimed for. Sure, Hai Yo managed to set him straight later, but it didn't take away that the loving family you saw at V is gone.

* Sort of a mix of Fridge Sadness and Fridge Heartwarming, but when you put the clues together and learn that Ferid was Skald Egan's son, it makes a lot of interactions with both him and Bernadette take on new meaning, some of it happy, some of it sad. Saddest of all is that you can never learn this in-universe; the Prince and Lymsleia lose a lot of family over the course of the game, and go the whole time never learning about some of the only family they have left.
