And it goes FromBadToWorse when Weena's comment causes him to realize that Filby's warning to "[[IronicEcho Hide until the all clear]]" has become twisted into the means in which the Morlocks have [[MoreThanMindControl conditioned]] the Eloi to walk blissfully to the slaughter. |
| 3 | * George's excitement over his town in 1966 is horribly cut short when the entire town is obliterated in a nuclear war. It's depressing for George, a believer in progress and science, to see so much destruction wrought by modernity. |

He starts with a [[TranquilFury dead]] [[DramaticDeadpan calm]] "Yes, they do tell me all about you" (the Eloi being [[BrainlessBeauty Brainless Beauties]]) and then goes into a screaming tirade at the Eloi about how their world is horrible (from his point of view) and how he would prefer to go back in time and die alongside the rest of humanity "who are MEN! MEN who THINK! MEN who HAVE LIVED BETTER LIVES THAN YOU!". |
| 5 | * Weena and George getting separated when the Morlocks ambush the latter towards the end of the movie. Sure, they do reunite again at the end, but it's quite agonizing to see Weena's and George's really anguished expressions when they get separated by a single steel door. Especially after having just survived and escaped the Morlock's lair. |
| 6 | ** Poor Weena is actually left in tears after a few feeble attempts to get the door open. |
| 7 | * George went through a painful, exhausting, and soul-crushing experience...and none of George's associates, except for Filby, believes his whole time travel story. Despite all his suffering and loss, George solemnly accepts they won't believe him. |
