Dr. Sam Griffith (Creator/SophiaBush) excels in her new leadership role as chief of surgery after her renowned boss falls into a coma. When he wakes up months later demanding to resume his duties, Sam is tasked with supervising the egotistical surgeon who never acknowledged her stellar talent. Matters are complicated further by the fact that the caustic and arrogant [[Creator/JasonIsaacs Dr. Rob "Griff" Griffith]] also happens to be her father. As Griff defies Sam's authority and challenges her medical expertise, the big question becomes whether this father and daughter will ever be able to mend their relationship as expertly as they heal the hearts of their patients.

!!This series contains the tropes:
* BravingTheBlizzard: Despite the scant number of episodes that managed to air, they already got in a classic "snowstorm emergency at the hospital" episode, which most medical dramas eventually do, just not this quickly.
* CallBack: In the words of Dr. Rob Griffith to his daughter, sometimes you just need to call it, referring to not putting in more effort into a case once it's beyond a certain point. At the end of the same episode, she tells him she will proctor him, but "as your daughter, I'm calling it."
* ConvenientComa: Within the opening minute of the show Rob is shot and placed in a medically induced coma, waking up on the exact day that his daughter is named as his replacement.
* DrJerk: Griff is an asshole; no one on the show doubts it. He's called a tyrant, and Dr. Shah even goes as far as to say that they're all happier and sleep more under his daughter Sam.
* FreudianExcuse: Why is Rob such a JerkAss? According to the show, it might be because he never got over the trauma of a car accident that resulted from him drunk driving over the speed limit and required his daughter to get heart surgery.
* HospitalHottie: Literally everyone. There are no plain employees.
* IBangedYourMom:
** Or in this case, I banged your dad, Sam goes to bury the hatchet with her best friend Lex, only to be kept from coming inside. Why? Because it is quickly revealed that prior to her father getting shot the two had been sleeping together.
** Toward the end of season, Sam learns that [[spoiler:her mom and dad had sex]]. How? It happened at the hospital, and within hours, EVERYONE knew about it.
* IllTakeThatAsACompliment: Sam places a T Rex on her father's computer to call him a dinosaur stuck in old ways of thinking. Rob takes it as a compliment saying that the Tyrannosaurus Rex was the Apex predator of its day.
* MarriedToTheJob: The first thing Dr. Rob Griffith asks when he wakes up is how long? His ex-wife and daughter assume he means how long was he in a coma. He later clarifies, no, he wants to know how long until he can work again. Just about exemplifying how important Rob's work is to him. Even going as far as to say that surgery is the only time his mind is quiet.
* OlderIsBetter: Rob seems to prefer older things and ways of doing things, preferring a whiteboard as compared to his daughter's new smart blackboard; even the car he drives is pretty old school.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Sam, her father Rob, her mother Vivian, her best friend/dad's girlfriend Lex, and her mother's new husband ALL work at the hospital. Averted in part by the fact that Rob and Vivian founded the hospital, so it's to be expected that the Griffith family would be heavily involved in its running, but still creates a bit too much closeness at times.
* ToughLove: Or at least that's how Rob sees his behaviour with Sam. He only pushes her because she believes she has so much potential, and that it's his duty as her father to help her achieve it.
* TyrantTakesTheHelm: Or in this case tyrant had the helm, lost it, and is now trying to take it back. Rob is insubordinate, doesn't listen to his daughter's instructions and still acts like he's in charge. The worst part is, the residents listen to him.
* VerbalBackspace: When Sam proceeds to complain about giving a speech to bored rich donors to her companion in an elevator, only to realise the person in the elevator is related to one of the biggest donors, thus being in his words "a bored rich person." The verbal backspacing quickly commences.
