* ArtisticLicenseReligion: Pastor Joe in his sermon states God's IHaveManyNames names among humans include Buddha, Krishna, Gaia, and the Four Winds. Those aren't true (Buddha isn't classified as a god by his religion, Krishna is an avatar of Vishnu, Gaia is a female Earth deity, and the Four Winds are a group of gods).
* BrokenPedestal: Downplayed. Dean tries to reason with Amara, believing her to be different than Chuck, but comes to believe that she's just as manipulative as her brother.
* TheBusCameBack: Amara returns since the events of "Raising Hell".
* DidYouJustScamCthulhu: Sam and Dean track down Amara for her help in subduing Chuck and lie to her that they intend to trap him when in reality they intend to kill both cosmic entities in order to preserve balance. Sam is uncomfortable with it but Dean goes along with it in order to kill Chuck and successfully tricks Amara.
* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: Sam and Dean attempt to track down Amara, but she finds them first. They then proceed to have lunch with another cosmic entity because she wanted to try perogies.
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: Sylvia, the daughter of Pastor Nick, is the mastermind behind the murders of the church congregation.
* EvilBrit: Zack plays this card when Castiel first summons him. When Castiel reveals that he's not looking to make a deal the accent disappears and Zack seems much less threatening.
* Fingore: A contraption cuts off Valerie Jones's fingers at three hour intervals. Castiel's HealingHands reattach them later on.
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: Amara points out that the beautiful woman sitting in front of the Winchesters and the nerdy writer Chuck presents himself as are just avatars they use so they can carry on a conversation; they are light and darkness.
* IHaveManyNames: Pastor Joe preaches that God goes by many names to humans: UsefulNotes/Jesus, Allah, Yahweh, Buddha, Krishna, Gaia, and the Four Winds.
* IfIDoNotReturn: Castiel passes a message to Dean in case he doesn't come back from his search for a way to defeat Chuck without sacrificing Jack.
* NotMeThisTime: The case of the church doesn't involve demons (or any other supernatural malefactors). According to Zack the crossroads demon, Rowena forbade them from making deals with humans because she wants people to go to places where they are meant to be. Possibly subverted in the end when Sylvia is taken by Zack in a police car.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: Dean comes to believe that Amara is just like Chuck when he gets her to explain that her bringing back Mary, his mother, was actually an attempt to teach him a lesson instead of the simple act of gratitude that she originally presented it as. This is what convinces Amara to betray Chuck.
* ParentalNeglect: Pastor Nick realize he's been this way towards his daughter since his wife's passing.
* ParentsAsPeople: Amara tells Dean that she brought Mary back because she wanted him to know that his mother was just as flawed as everybody else and not the perfect woman that he had dreamed beforehand, but also that a real person was better than some idealized version. Dean doesn't take it well, not just because Mary is dead once again, but because the fact that it was a covert attempt to teach him a lesson (when, originally, she presented it as a simple act of gratitude) makes Amara sound a lot like her brother... which Dean notices and calls her out on.
* ReasoningWithGod: Amara at first refuses to betray Chuck when the Winchesters ask for her help, but Dean eventually manages to persuade her otherwise.
* Retcon: It was previously stated that Amara was Chuck's older and stronger sister but now it is stated that the two are twins and their powers are implied to be equal and opposite in strength. Amara claims that Death was lying when he told Dean and Sam that she was older than Chuck, though it's unknown what motivation he would have had to do so.
* TheReveal: It is confirmed that, contrary to what Death claimed, Amara and Chuck are equal and came into existence together. She is his darkness as he is her light and when the two separated, the universe was born (the Big Bang).
