1	At the start of ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog'', following off from ''VideoGame/SonicHeroes'', Shadow still suffers from amnesia and is haunted by distant memories of GUN's occupation of the Space Colony ARK and the death of Maria Robotnik. As he tries to figure out what's going on in his head, however, the Black Arms suddenly drop out of the sky and invade the nearby city of Westopolis. Shadow is initially disinterested in involving himself, but Black Doom suddenly appears before him, telling him that the time of reckoning was nigh and that he is to bring him the Chaos Emeralds, "as promised". With this being the most solid lead in his search for his memories, Shadow immediately departs for the ravaged Westopolis.

3	As Shadow [[GunsDoNotWorkThatWay pumps an SMG like a shotgun]] and steals a CoolBike, Sonic and co run into town to try and help stop the invading aliens. Shadow starts beating up the Black Arms with Chaos Control, and everybody and everything opens fire on him. Enraged, Shadow uses Chaos Blast to knock away human enemies too. Even as he prepares to unleash more destruction, a beaten and exhausted Sonic collapses right in front of him. Shadow realizes it's up to him, and races into Westopolis to fulfil his destiny...

5	Whatever it may be...

7	Over the course of the game, he makes various allies and rivals in his hunt for the truth and the seven Chaos Emeralds. Eventually, once he retrieves the Emeralds, he reaches an epiphany...

12	Shadow defeats Sonic and GUN's Diablon prototype. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow declares that he was created to bring order and justice to humanity, and to that end, he will destroy this damn planet.

16	Shadow defeats Black Doom. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow declares that he will conquer the universe.

20	Shadow defeats Sonic and GUN's Diablon prototype. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow declares his allegiance to Black Doom and his intent to turn the earth into a "dark empire".

24	Shadow defeats Eggman. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow declares his independence, proclaiming that he knows what is best for himself and will not let anyone sway him. With that, he kills Eggman once and for all.

28	Shadow defeats Eggman. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow, believing himself to be an android replica of the real Shadow, vows to become more powerful than the original Shadow. With that, he kills Eggman.

32	Shadow defeats Eggman. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow, believing himself to be an android replica of the real Shadow, declares the beginning of a robot uprising and to create an empire where androids rule. With that, and help from Omega, Shadow kills Eggman.

36	Shadow defeats Eggman. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow declares himself to be the guardian of the Space Colony ARK. With that, he spares Eggman, but warns him never to come near the ARK ever again.

40	Shadow defeats Black Doom. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow realizes that he was an experiment gone horrifically wrong, and that too much destruction had been wrought as a result of him. As he walks away, Vector tries to tell him that things may not be so dire...

44	Shadow defeats Sonic and GUN's Diablon prototype. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow declares himself to be the strongest hedgehog in existence.

48	Shadow defeats Black Doom. With all seven Chaos Emeralds now his, Shadow declares that Doom and the Black Arms are finished.

52	Shadow finally has the seven Chaos Emeralds. Before he can uncover the truth behind his past, though, Black Doom appears and asks for the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic and company also arrive, warning Shadow not to listen to Doom. Doom then reveals the truth of Shadow's creation: Professor Gerald needed a source of power to complete his Ultimate Life Form, so Doom offered his blood in exchange for the Chaos Emeralds.

54	Doom then takes the Chaos Emeralds and uses Chaos Control to warp the Black Comet to the earth's surface, where it takes root and begins to drain the planet of its life force. Sonic and company are rendered paralyzed by a nerve gas on the comet, leaving them vulnerable to being eaten alive by Black Arm spawns. Shadow, however, finds himself unaffected, being part-Black Arms. He proceeds to give chase after Black Doom.

56	At the same time, the Chaotix find a video recording on the ARK of Professor Gerald: realizing the Black Arms intended to destroy the earth, he created both Shadow and the Eclipse Cannon as countermeasures.

58	Once Shadow catches up to Black Doom, the evil alien tyrant transforms into Devil Doom to finish him off. Shadow uses the Chaos Emeralds to assume his super form. He emerges victorious over Doom, then uses Chaos Control to warp the Black Comet back into space, where it is destroyed once and for all by the Eclipse Cannon.

60	As Sonic and his friends celebrate their victory earthside, Shadow stays aboard the ARK. He takes one last look at an old photo of Maria and Professor Gerald. Having now found the answers he sought and ready to leave the past behind and start anew, Shadow tosses the photo aside and walks away with a few final words of parting:

62	"Goodbye forever, Shadow the Hedgehog."
