->'''Dr. Oobleck:''' Mountain Glenn was doomed from the start! As the end drew near, the citizens of the territory made one last attempt at survival: They took up shelter beneath the city! In massive caves that they had cleared out for the subway. And they had cut themselves off from the surface!\
'''Yang:''' An underground village?

Weiss, Blake and Yang discuss their motivations for becoming huntresses. While everyone sleeps, Ruby discovers a White Fang patrol but gets captured while trying to follow them.

!!Tropes in this episode include:
%% * BadassInDistress: Due to an unfortunate fall and the loss of her scythe, Ruby gets captured by White Fang.
* BoringButPractical: While they don't know the exact plan yet, RWBY knows that Torchwick is bringing a train loaded with weapons, Dust and explosives into Vale. With only a few seconds to act, Ruby...pulls out her scroll and tries to call ahead to Beacon and warn them. It's a good idea... but she's unfortunately in a ghost town with no working phone signal.
* CampfireCharacterExploration: Weiss, Blake, and Yang discuss their motivations for becoming huntresses around a campfire.
* CellphonesAreUseless: Because the ruins are outside the city and deep underground, the signal is bad and Ruby can't call her team members (or Vale) for backup.
* DugTooDeep: Vale's attempt at expansion, produced the town of Mountain Glenn, which came to a tragic end because the inhabitants were developing an underground railway system. While tunnelling, they accidentally blew open a cave filled with subterranean Grimm. It's implied that Vale had no choice but to seal the inhabitants and Grimm in together to save Vale.
* FigureItOutYourself: Oobleck's interrogation of Weiss, Blake and Yang in the previous episode bears fruit as the three admit that the reasons they ''thought'' they wanted to become huntresses aren't the real reasons. They further realise that ''why'' they chose their path isn't important, but their [[WeHelpTheHelpless responsibility to protect others]] is what matters.
* FreezeFrameBonus: When Blake begins talking about her partner Adam, the camera slowly begins panning up from her. Shortly before it cuts back to her/the girls, the flickering fire reveals a shadow imprint/something else on the ceiling that happens to look ''exactly'' like Adam's rose symbol on the back of his clothes.
* EasilyOverheardConversation: While Doctor Oobleck sleeps, Weiss, Blake, and Yang all clarify their earlier statements regarding their reasons for becoming Huntresses, explaining their doubts over whether or not they could possibly succeed in their goals. They conclude that their intentions mean little if they don't succeed in helping others. The camera then pans up to Oobleck, revealing that he's secretly awake and smiling in approval.
* LiteralMetaphor: It takes a while for Team RWBY to discover that their surface search of Mountain Glenn has revealed no signs of the terrorist group they're looking for because the White Fang are based underneath the ground. As Oobleck notes, they aren't looking for an underground crime network, they are looking for an ''underground'' crime network.
* StandardFemaleGrabArea: DoubleSubverted. Ruby is grabbed on the upper-arm by a White Fang, but shakes him off and tries to attack him. However, without her scythe, she can't put up much of a fight, and gets knocked out and ''dragged'' by her upper arms.
* TitleDrop: When Oobleck tells the tale of the underground city, the episode's title is revealed to be the name of the place they're currently investigating.
* TrappedInContainment: The residents of Mountain Glenn were sealed into their subterranean haven when a blast in the tunnels unleashed Grimm on them.
