Context Recap / PhineasAndFerbExcaliferb

1Major Monogram is home sick, so Carl decides to visit and tell him the story of ''Excaliferb'' from a book.²²Thus comes the tale of how Phineas and Ferb go on a quest to defeat Malifishmertz.²²----²!! Tropes:²* AllForNothing: The quest for the sword Excaliferb is ultimately pointless, as [[NegatedMomentOfAwesome it ends up breaking before it can be used]] and contributes nothing to resolve the conflict.²* AllThereInTheScript: Linda's counterpart in this story is named "Linderella", which is only mentioned in the closing credits.²* AntiClimax: How the final battle with Malifishmertz ends. Monogram is in disbelief that [[NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer it actually happens that way]].²* TheCavalry: {{Subverted|Trope}}. Carl tries to have [[HerCodeNameWasMarySue his self-insert appear in the story to save everybody]], but Monogram forces him to tell the tale as it's written.²* ChekhovsGun: The transformation potions Phineas and Ferb were making at the beginning of the story.²* CuttingTheKnot: Instead of answering the Bridge Troll's riddle to earn the right to cross her bridge, Phineas and Ferb's gang just walk through the shallow river that the bridge runs over.²* DidntThinkThisThrough: Malifishmertz tries to use a wicker cage to imprison Parable the Dragonpus. Obviously, Parable just burns his way out.²* FramingDevice: The story of "Excaliferb", the main meat of the episode, is being told by Carl to a sick Major Monogram. The episode occasionally cuts back to the two for some jokes and commentary.²* HerCodeNameWasMarySue: Carl tries to insert himself into the story he's narrating so he can be the hero and save everyone. Major Monogram quickly puts a stop to it.²* HeroOfAnotherStory: While Phineas and Ferb are talking to the Lady of the Puddle, King Arthur is receiving Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake.²* {{Irony}}: Malifishmertz seems to be the inventor of the lawn gnomes, one of the that present day Doofenshmirtz hate most. (although this is just a story, so it's probably not real) ²* {{Ladyella}}: Linda's counterpart in the story is "Linderella".²* PlanBResolution: With Excaliferb having fallen apart, the heroes must rely on Phineas and Ferb's shapeshifting potions.²* RainOfSomethingUnusual: The episode has the two boys' (in the story) Middle-Age adventures by noticing that the rain is fishy by it raining fish.²* ShoutOut:²** Malifishmertz is somewhat modeled after Maleficent from ''WesternAnimation/SleepingBeauty''. Besides the similar names, Malifishmertz also has Maleficent's horns.²** The ending -- which involves Major Monogram asking Carl to come back the next and read the story again -- is a parody of the ending of ''Film/ThePrincessBride''.²* WitchHunt: When Candevere rants to herself about the orders Linderella gives her, one of them is to "accuse the neighbors of witchcraft".²----
