Go To

In the midst of the overwhelming changes to Earth-Prime, a stressed out Barry finds himself the captive of Grodd.
----
* AmbiguousSituation
** Gorilla City becoming part of Earth-Prime raises a few questions about Earth-2 Post-Crisis again: Is Gorilla City the only survivor of the pre-Crisis Earth-2? If Gorilla City survived, then are there other survivors from pre-Crisis Earth-2 and other Earths that we don't know about?
** Barry had a really good reason not to accept Grodd's HeelFaceTurn, since he already tried that trick before. Is this any different?
* ArcWords: "Run Grodd, run!"
* AscendedFanboy: Chester is happy about being accepted as a team member by Barry. The week after the episode aired, it was announced that Chester would be a series regular for the seventh season.
* BetrayalInsurance: ARGUS installed a tracker in Grodd's brain in case he doesn't live up to his promise of a HeelFaceTurn.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Eva is apparently in league with Iris's doppelganger.
* BodyHorror: Eva severely burns her arms when reaching out of the mirror. The injuries are later shown to also affect Mirror-Iris, though Eva can easily heal her.
* BookEnds: The episode began with Barry trying to visit his parents' graves, only to learn that that the cemetery disappeared, then responds to an SOS about a robbery perpetrated by Pied Piper. The episode ends with Barry locating his parents' new cemetery and going after Piper again. Both scenes contrast Barry's attitude to Chester.
* BrainBleach: The thought of Barry and Grodd becoming fused together grosses Kamilla out.
* TheBusCameBack: Solovar returns, as the Gatekeeper of the mental realm Barry and Grodd are trapped in.
* ByTheBookCop: Joe tells the Iris impersonator on no uncertain terms that he is not leaking the information to her as it is CCPD information.
* CallBack: In Grodd's memory, Thawne wonders if Grodd's agitated state is because Caitlin offered him "the b-word"; as we well know, "[[Recap/TheFlash2014S1E21GroddLives Grodd hate banana]]".
* ChekhovsGun: The tweak Chester made to Gideon, which initially put Barry in danger, turns out to be the key to save both him and Grodd from the mental landscape.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: While her advice about talking to Allegra does sink in, Nash's immediate takeaway from Frost's encouraging speech is an incredulous "''Ralph'' is your life coach?".
* TheConfidant: Barry speaks with Kamilla about the overwhelming changes post-Crisis and his problems with who he thinks is Iris.
* ContinuityNod:
** The team use Sherloque's memory machine to check up on Barry's mind.
** In a reference to [[Series/Supergirl2015 Supergirl]] now living on the same Earth as they do, Chester says "Thank Rao!" at one point.
* CosmicRetcon: When Barry asks Gideon to list the changes created by Crisis, the results are in the ''trillions''. These are among those that Barry encountered that warranted the tally in the first place:
** Hartley Rathaway never reconciled with Team Flash, and is now a metahuman.
** The cemetery Henry and Nora Allen were buried in has been moved.
** [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking There’s now a train line where there wasn’t one before]].
* EurekaMoment: Barry realizes what kind of situation he's in when Thawne tells Caitlin, in Barry's earshot, that "Gorillas are no different".
* EvilAllAlong: Implied with Eva, as it turns out her BrokenBird persona is all an act and she's secretly working alongside Mirror Iris.
* FailedASpotCheck: Chester acknowledges that he should have figured out that Barry was the Flash sooner.
* FiveSecondForeshadowing:
** Chester and Kamilla warning Barry not to take a shortcut he mentioned. As soon as Barry arrived there he was nearly ran over by a train, because he was right at the railroad tracks. He barely managed to phase right through at the last second.
** The Sherloque ghost warning Nash that the latter's device is not going to work, a few seconds before it blows up.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: While in Grodd's memory, Barry initially assumes that Thawne somehow brought him to the past. While this isn't the case, TheStinger strongly suggests that Thawne really is up to something that Team Flash will soon be dealing with.
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: Grodd speaks through Caitlin and Thawne when talking to Barry. Later, when Barry returns to the visual of STAR Labs, Grodd has taken the form of Joe, explicitly to show him the face of a friend rather than an old enemy.
* HeelFaceTurn: Grodd of all characters has made one, and while it obviously takes a long time for Barry to believe him, it turns out to be genuine this time.
* HourglassPlot: The episode began with Chester eagerly trying to integrate himself into Team Flash as MissionControl while Barry hesitates. The climax has Barry trying to talk Chester into helping out while Chester is unsure of himself because of his failures.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Mirror Iris calls Joe one when he won't share information on the Carver investigation when he was the one who convinced Barry to trust her with the Mirror Gun. Joe counters that the gun was a Team Flash matter. [=CCPD=] is a different field, and since they were working with [=RICO=], he had to keep quiet about it.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: Barry tries to make short work of the Pied Piper by stealing his sonic gloves, only for Hartley to reveal that he now has powers too.
* IHatePastMe: Grodd feels terrible about his past deeds.
* InternalReveal:
** Chester learns about Barry being the Flash. He also learns of the existence of Nash.
** Allegra learns about Nash having been close with her doppelganger.
* InsistentTerminology: Nash repeatedly insists that Allegra's doppelganger wasn't his daughter, just an employee. Frost neither believes him nor cares enough to stop saying it.
* ISeeDeadPeople: This time, it is Sherloque who haunts Nash.
* ItsAllMyFault: Chester, who made a tweak to Gideon, which allowed Grodd to piggyback on his brain.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Barry isn't particularly moved, and MoralMyopia is in play, but Grodd's argument that taking away his mind is worse than just taking away a weapon isn't invalid.
-->'''Grodd''': You take a weapon from a man, he's still a man. You took Grodd's ''mind''! Grodd's greatest gift! That is not punishment, that is cruelty, pure cruelty!
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: Grodd is Chester's favorite Flash villain.
* {{Leitmotif}}: The Reverse-Flash's theme plays when the vision of Sherloque seems to morph into Thawne.
* LetMeTellYouAStory: Chester tells Frost a story from his past, where he failed at a science fair, asked his teacher for a second chance, who shot him down, telling him that people like themselves don't ever get a second chance, which is why he is so sensitive about screwing up.
* LightningBruiser: Grodd already qualified, but getting the Flash's powers in the mindscape turns the trope up to eleven (and makes it quite a bit more literal to boot).
* MentalFusion: To gain enough strength to get out of his mental prison, Grodd and the Flash fuse together in his mindscape. This is read in the real world as their brainwaves syncing before merging completely. Problem is that they have to defuse the exact moment they leave or else their combined minds will go to one body, the shock destroying its brain and leaving them both dead.
* MoralMyopia: When Grodd begins talking about the cruelty dealt to him in shutting down his mind, Barry tells him that he has no right to talk about such a thing after all he did to Team Flash, Central City and Gorilla City.
* MythologyGag:
** As a result of the CosmicRetcon, Hartley is now a meta. Just like what happened to the Rogues (Hartley included) after ''Flashpoint''.
** Kamilla and Chester tracking Hartley to "52nd" and Palm.
** The merged form of Barry & Grodd, which grants Grodd access to the Speed Force & a [[ChestInsignia lightning bolt painted on his chest]], is one to Grodd’s design following the ''ComicBook/New52'' reboot.
* NoodleIncident:
** Hartley has some beef with Team Flash again.
** Chester tried to build a hovercraft out of his grandmother's car at age 11.
** Everyone in STAR Labs apparently almost killed Barry before. Including [[TheGhost the janitor]].
* OhCrap: Barry, when he realizes that he's trapped in Grodd's mind.
* OverlyLongGag: Barry tasking Gideon with tallying up the post-Crisis changes. "''Calculating...''"
* PlotMandatedFriendshipFailure: Allegra breaks it off with Nash since he's keeping secrets from her, most of all what his relationship with Allegra's doppelganger is supposed to be.
* ReformedButRejected: Barry, for obvious reasons, is at first very distrustful over Grodd's HeelFaceTurn.
* RippleEffectProofMemory:
** Grodd has all of his pre-Crisis memories, unaffected by the event.
** Subverted for Barry, as whilst he retains all of his pre-Crisis memories, he lacks everything he should know from having lived in the post-Crisis timeline - this even extends to the very geography of Central City, as Barry is unable to find the graveyard where his parents were buried.
* ShoutOut:
** The episode title to the CBS series ''Series/GodFriendedMe'', which is also produced by Creator/GregBerlanti. It also happens to be the reason Creator/ViolettBeane no longer appears on ''The Flash''.
** When Frost mentions that if Barry and Grodd's minds would be in one body if they didn't separate before leaving the mindscape, Kamilla referred to the situation as "[[Film/TheFly1986 Brundle-Flash]]".
* SlipperySkid: Apparently, the janitor once overwaxed the floor and Barry ended up slipping on it while running.
* SufferingBuildsCharacter: Grodd's yearlong struggle to regain his intelligence through the coma is what led to his HeelRealization.
* {{Synchronization}}:
** Barry and Grodd's brain waves follow a single pattern following their FusionDance.
** Mirror Iris and Eva turn out to be linked. Her being harmed carries over to Mirror Iris but she can be easily healed.
* SpoilerTitle: Twice over; the title obviously doesn't keep the guest character a secret, but the context itself seems to refer to Grodd's apparent HeelFaceTurn.
* SuddenlyShouting: Iris's doppelganger when Joe refuses to hand over evidence regarding her Carver investigation due to red tape.
* ThrowTheDogABone: One of the post-Crisis changes Barry laments at the beginning of the episode is that he couldn't find the graves of his parents anymore. At the end, he finally finds them, thanks to Chester.
* TookALevelInBadass: Aside from still referring to himself in the third person, Grodd is now capable of speaking in complete, coherent sentences.
* TrailersAlwaysLie: The promo made it look like Grodd was still a villain, which rearranged some of his sentences into "Grodd wants Flash to die!".
* TrailersAlwaysSpoil: The episode's description gave the spoiler that Iris was trapped in the Mirrorverse.
* UnwantedAssistance: Barry initially doesn't want Chester to help him.
* UnwittingPawn: The Mirror Iris lures Joe out of the police station with a lunch date at Big Belly Burger, then pretends to have mixed up the actual meeting time so she can sneak back and get the files on the Carver case.
* VaguenessIsComing: Nash's final vision of Sherloque (who seems to also be a fusion of Eobard Thawne) simply says "[[PunctuatedForEmphasis He..Is...Coming]]".
* WhamShot:
** After Iris leaves Eva to find bandages, she hardens her expression then talks to Iris's mirror doppelganger through the mirror. And both Mirror Iris and Eva have the same burn marks on their forearms, with the latter healing the former with a simple wave.
** Nash’s apparent hallucination of Sherloque Wells ''grabbing'' Nash and pinning him against a wall. ''Then'' he starts vibrating & his eyes begin glowing a [[RedEyesTakeWarning demonic red]], signifying that the Reverse-Flash has returned.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Chester calls out Barry for being cold when he (genuinely) doesn't remember how he and the team wronged Hartley in the past. Though Hartley does take advantage that Barry also apparently forgot that he no longer needs the sonic gloves.
** Frost rebukes Nash for not being honest to Allegra about his relationship with her doppelganger.
* TheWorfEffect: Even with Barry now being strong enough to knock out Grodd in a single punch, he still has major troubles dealing with Solovar. Even after the two do a FusionDance, Solovar almost kills them before Grodd gets a HeroicSecondWind due to Barry's motivational speech.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre:
** Iris still tries to convince Eva to believe in herself and find a way to freedom.
