* AmbiguousSituation: Did the baby really save Kelly's life because it wanted to, or because it still needed to? Is Kelly really of the opinion that the baby is good, or is she brainwashed? At the end, does the same apply to Cas? This episode ''really'' did not like stating a clear answer.
* BadBoss: No surprise that Lucifer is this, but the fact that his most loyal and badass supporter Dagon suffers remote torture at his hands underscores the point.
* CharacterDeath: Joshua and Dagon.
* CurbStompBattle: Castiel, Sam, and Dean are no match for Dagon but this changes fast when the Nephilim grants its power to Cas causing him to effortlessly kill Dagon.
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: As Dean points out, Castiel seems desperate for a mission he can win, after all his failures.
* ForcedSleep: Castiel uses his angelic powers to render Sam and Dean unconscious so that he can escape with Kelly.
* HeroicSacrifice: Tried and failed by Kelly.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: Kelly tries to save the world by slitting her wrists in the bathtub. The fact that she comes back convinces her that her baby is good.
* LastOfTheirKind: Although he doesn't appear, Asmodeus is now this due to Dagon's death in this episode, leaving only one Prince of Hell left alive.
* PreMortemOneLiner: When a Nephilim-empowered Castiel blocks Dagon's attack, just before killing her.
-->'''Dagon''': How?
-->'''Castiel''': Call it a miracle.
* SkewedPriorities: Kelly is so in awe of her son's power, that she would rather have no child than one without powers. Atleast, that's what it looks like to the Winchesters. Preferring to let Castiel take her to her death might have had more to do with the vision her son gave her a little while ago.
* TakeAThirdOption: Sam comes up with a third option beyond letting Kelly give birth to Lucifer's son or killing them both. If they extract the angelic grace, he'll just be born a normal child. Unfortunately Kelly, convinced of the baby's utter goodness, rejects the idea.
* TheNthDoctor: Joshua is played by a different actor then back in Season 5. This lasts less than a minute.
* ThisCannotBe: Dagon's response to Castiel blocking her attack is a stunned "How?"
* WhamEpisode: Another Prince of Hell dies, but not before she can kill Joshua and destroy the Colt.
* WreckedWeapon: Dagon breaks Dean's arm and melts the Colt, a weapon that has been an ace in the pocket for the Winchesters for most of the series.
