!Tropes:
* BackForTheFinale: Garff leads a large swarm of wild dragons in freeing the captive Singetails, under the orders of the Berserker Bewilderbeast. Also in attendance are the allies the Riders have encountered - the Wingmaidens, the Berserkers and the Defenders all help protect the Bewilderbeast from Johann's army. Eruptodon, Screaming Death and what looks like Thornado and Bim, Bang and Boom also show up.
* BladeBrake: When the Bewilderbeast's egg falls off the cliff, Hiccup jumps after it and uses Inferno Mk 2 to hang onto the cliff. The blade is dug into the cliff, so he's forced to snap it off in order to climb back up.
* CallForward: Drago's scene (indicating that he does not yet possess a Bewilderbeast, which is what he was paying Johann to find), the Wingmaidens knowing Valka is the safest person to leave such a rare dragon egg (and not spoiling the reveal if you were watching the series before the [[WesternAnimation/HowToTrainYourDragon2 second film]]), and the reason the team leaves the Edge is that Berk needs their protection. Hiccup also never actually sees the Bewilderbeast, to comply with his not recognizing one in the second film.
** Hiccup even expects in the closing narration that his father will try to hand the reins of chief to Hiccup "very soon" foreshadowing his death, not to mention the opening subplot of the second film where Stoick tries to corner his son to speak to him on that exact topic.
* ContinuityCameo:
** Valka, Hiccup's mother, has a non-speaking one at the end of the episode in her masked form seen at the beginning of the second movie, picking up the Bewilderbeast egg that Hiccup and Toothless rescued, which the Wingmaidens leave for her.
** Drago Bludvist, the BigBad of the second movie, is also shown at the end as Krogan is brought to him. When he learns that Krogan failed to capture the King of Dragons for him, his master orders for him to be executed.
* GondorCallsForAid: The roar of the Bewilderbeast calls in most of the dragons seen through the entire series for the final battle.
* GrandFinale: To the TV series.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Having been hinted at throughout the entire series, this episode finally reveals that Krogan was working for Drago Bludvist.
* HollywoodKiss: Hiccup and Astrid's first kiss of this episode qualifies as this.
* KillItWithIce: The Bewilderbeast to Johann, as Johann's final fate is being frozen solid, while trying to kill Hiccup, by the King of Dragons's ice breath.
* MySisterIsOffLimits: Tuffnut doesn't approve of Snotlout flirting with Ruffnut.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Johann gives Hiccup a brief one before pulling out one of his throwing knives to finish him, but this pause allows Hiccup to get the upper hand.
* NoManShouldHaveThisPower: The Dragon Eye is just too dangerous in the wrong hands to be worth keeping around, so Hiccup decides to destroy it and the Dragon Eye 2.
* PsychicPowers: The Berserkers' Bewilderbeast and its MindControl.
* RapidFireNo: When Krogan manages to use the bolas Hiccup shot at him to knock the Bewilderbeast's egg off the cliff, the latter lets one out chasing after it.
* RoleReprise: Creator/DjimonHounsou returns as Drago when the latter appears in the ending.
* VillainExitStageLeft: After Hiccup retrieves the egg and the others fight off the Hunters, they all realize that Krogan got away. Krogan is then shown being brought to Drago.
* WeddingBellsForSomeoneElse: In the WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue, the riders are all attending Dagur and Mala's wedding, the framing and Hiccup's voice over implying to be his and Astrid's wedding before panning out and proving otherwise. Though by the end of the third film, Hiccup and Astrid do get their wedding.
--> '''Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III:''' As for the lovebirds... [''Shows Hiccup and Astrid kissing with a pair of wedding rings, only to reveal Dagur and Mala putting on the rings instead''] No, ''those'' lovebirds.
* WreckedWeapon: Many of the weapons introduced in the series are destroyed in the battle of Berserker Island, explaining their absence or replacements in the second film. Most notably, Astrid sacrifices her original axe to deflect a fireball, and the blade on Inferno Mk 2 is broken when Hiccup uses it to [[BladeBrake stop his fall in the Bewilderbeast's nest]].
* YouHaveFailedMe: Drago makes an appearance in the epilogue, and promptly has Krogan executed for not being able to bring back the Bewilderbeast's egg.
