!!Contains examples of the following tropes:

* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Karen is this to Lucas as she asks him what "Woot" means.
* BeachEpisode: Brooke throws a beach party to commemorate the end of summer.
* CurbStompBattle: Nathan’s victory over Lucas at the River Court is a much more one sided affair than their previous one on one game back in the Pilot.
* TheInformant: Lucas tells Peyton that he saw Ellie - supposedly a currently clean former addict - buying drugs in the park.
* InternalReveal: Dan remembers seeing Lucas during the dealership fire.
* KickTheDog: Peyton plays Haley and Chris Keller’s cover of "When The Stars Go Blue" at the party after Haley tries to talk to Peyton about her troubles, oblivious to Peyton’s current dislike of her.
* PapaWolf: Larry admits to Peyton that he forced Ellie to stay away as when she originally arrived looking to be part of Peyton’s life, it was shortly after Anna’s death and he didn’t want to confuse her.
* PosterGalleryBedroom: Brooke writes two lists of boys on Peyton’s closet doors - one list is of boys that Brooke is claiming for herself, and the other is of boys (And one girl) that Brooke is allocating for Peyton.
* ShoutOut:
** When Brooke creates the lists of potential suitors for herself and Peyton, she claims Music/DaveGrohl for herself whilst giving Peyton the rest of the Music/FooFighters.
** Peyton claims that Lucas’ tell is "the size of [[Creator/JenniferLopez J.Lo]]’s ass."
* SomethingOnlyTheyWouldSay: Peyton realises that Ellie’s telling the truth about wanting to see her earlier but being forced to stay away by Larry, when Ellie recounts how Peyton used to sit under a bridge with "a brunette girl who wore a little too much eye make up for a 10-year-old."
* StacysMom: Brooke includes Peyton’s dad Larry on her list of boys; she also includes Dan on Peyton’s list, much to Peyton’s displeasure.
* TheTell: Peyton claims Lucas has one when she realises he’s holding something back about Ellie.
* TitledAfterTheSong: The episode title is taken from the song "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea" by Music/TheCure.
* TraumaButton: Dan seeing Lucas through the flames of the bonfire prompts him to remember that Lucas was at the dealership during the fire.
* TheWorfEffect: Nathan challenges Lucas to a rematch at the River Court, and it’s a completely one-sided affair this time. It shows how much Nathan has benefited from his time at High Flyers, and how much Lucas’ game has been impeded by his HCM medication.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Part of the reason Nathan and Lucas’ one on one game is so one-sided this time is Lucas’ HCM medication slowing his heart rate.
* WrittenInAbsence: Brooke claims that Mouth’s too busy moping about his break-up with Erica to DJ at the party.
