5	While, on the surface, a funny and family-friendly film about robots, ''Robots'' has some genuinely and surprisingly nightmarish concepts.

7	* Robot City is a strong example of a CrapSaccharineWorld despite its fantastical elements, especially if you're a robot. Ratchet's position as head of Bigweld Industries means the creation of a Robot City populated exclusively by upgraded robots. Their scheme involves conning robots out of their money by convincing them to replace their old bodies in favor of shiny newer ones, and shutting down production of spare parts for older models to make the new parts their only choice. Anyone who can't afford the new parts or find any old ones to use are eventually Out-Moded and eventually left to die off or be sent to the Chop Shop to be recycled by the Sweepers. Worse is Ratchet and his depraved mother are not afraid to melt down anyone who gets in their way as scrap metal for their new parts.
8	* The Chop Shop. Essentially a gigantic corpse factory pulsing in perpetual motion below Robot City, the Chop Shop is the final destination for anyone caught by Madame Gasket's Sweepers, where robots are torn apart and melted down into upgrade parts. Overworked labor-bots work endlessly on conveyor belts lined with the remains of their fellow robots, stabbing, slicing, and smelting Gasket's product down with soulless efficiency. The industry of sheer ''death'' that Madame Gasket has created is underlined by the oppressive baritone of Music/TomWaits and his song "Underground." The lyrics, as recontextualized for the Chop Shop, make every word feel like a stomping boot directly into the face, really sealing in how utterly ''dystopian'' the existence of the Chop Shop is:

13	* Ratchet's father has been reduced to a living metal skeleton and hanging from the ceiling by chains. He seems to not mind though.

15	* Fender's horrifying encounter at to the Chop Shop after a sweeper snatches him, being essentially surrounded by robot corpses set to be melted down.
16	** As Fender's about to be dropped into the Chop Shop by the Sweeper, you can see claw marks on the inner side of the door that Fender's banging on to be let out. This shows that Fender wasn't the first live Robot to be caught by a Sweeper, and tried to claw their way out of said Sweeper before being killed in the Chop Shop.
17	** One part shows Fender brushing past the mutilated corpses of robots suspended by '''''meathooks,''''' further emphasizing the Chop Shop as what is essentially the robot equivalent of a [[HumanResources human slaughterhouse]].
