''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}''[='=]s music is associated with and released by a small record label, called [[http://www.whatpumpkin.com What Pumpkin]] (named after a popular RunningGag / [[MemeticMutation meme]] from ''Webcomic/MSPaintAdventures'' as a whole). This small group of musicians has created a vast variety of original music in myriad genres and styles, and a similarly large variety of remixes and covers of both their own tracks and [[Film/ConAir external]] [[Film/Armageddon1998 ones]], to the point that there is more than enough music to provide {{leitmotif}}s for everyone and everything in ''Homestuck''. So many remixes and leitmotifs, [[https://hsmusic.wiki/ the fandom has catalogued all of them]].

By and large, the first several albums are composed entirely of music that has been used in the comic, but as the comic has gone on, the artists simply churn out more music than Creator/AndrewHussie could ever possibly use, much to the benefit of the readers. As such, music on this page falls into one of three categories:
* '''Numbered Volumes''': Contain most of the music used in the comic, and pertain most closely to the events of the story.
* '''Side Projects''': Often explore groups or material running parallel to the story. At least two have been [[FakeBand "composed"]] by characters in the comic itself.
* '''Solo Albums''': Beginning with the release of ''Strife'' [[note]]''Alternia'' was also a solo album, but it doesn't fit in with the pattern of the others, being priced at $6.12, and the themes are recurring[[/note]], Andrew has decided to showcase the talents of the individuals of the music team by giving them all a chance to perform solo. Typically, these albums explore genres not normally done on the team albums, and play around with the format more. These albums typically have music that does not appear in the comic at all.

Please note that on October of 2019, many albums on the official Bandcamp were either retired or merged. Thus, what you see does not correlate to the official ''Homestuck'' bandcamp.

The fans have also not been idle, and [[Music/HomestuckFanMusic have made their own musical contributions.]]

Gushing about this stuff, of course, goes on the [[AwesomeMusic/{{Homestuck}} associated Awesome Music page]]. However, it is of note that the Homestuck label is perhaps the ''most'' successful label on Bandcamp, and while Bandcamp does not release direct statistics, many of the Homestuck albums are top sellers long after their releases.

Artists on the music team with their own pages:
* Music/MichaelGuyBowman
* Creator/TobyFox

%% Do not post an album, until it is either available through What Pumpkin or Andrew himself mentions it in a newspost.
%% Additionally, please list all featured songs like so "Song Name (featured [[URLHERE here]])" Additional comments for things like Act enders and openers and days of note are fine, but please don't list things like it being a remix or anything like that. If you are so compelled, list them as notes/labelnotes, but probably only for noteworthy pieces of info.
%% Do not list a song that's not yet available on an album. A catchall folder for songs used in the comic but unreleased period can be made after Homestuck's completion, but until then we have no idea if a song is or is not going to be released.

[[folder:Volume 5]]
* ''Homestuck Vol. 5'' is the sixth official release of ''Homestuck'' music for download. While not the first album to contain music not used in the comic, it takes the idea and runs wild with it. Despite the fact that it is called an "album", it has ''65 songs'' [[note]]it used to have 71, but someone was caught accidentally plagiarizing a song and had their submissions removed[[/note]] . It covers music from the middle of Act 4 to partially through Act 5 Act 2, as well as replacing a few removed songs in Act 3. It was released June 13, 2010. It contains:

[[folder:Alternia]]
* ''Alternia'' is the seventh official album. It is a solo album by Toby "Radiation" Fox, composed specifically with the trolls in mind, and is the first of the solo albums. It was released less than halfway through the ''Hivebent'' story arc of ''Homestuck'', so it contains some themes that fit less than perfectly with the trolls they were intended to evoke. It also contains six bonus tracks[[note]]The last three songs are bonuses with the purchase of the album while the first three are still part of the album.[[/note]], which are not listed as official because they are largely incomplete, inappropriate entirely for the characters, or remixes. It was released on July 18, 2010. It contains:

[[folder:Strife!]]
* ''[[https://tenseimusic.bandcamp.com/album/homestuck-strife Strife!]]'' is another solo album, this time by Joren "Tensei" de Bruin, consisting of seven new songs. It's primarily composed of HardRock songs, focusing on the original main cast of the kids, and interspersing each of their songs with their signature instrument. Notably, unlike most of the songs on this page, Tensei actually played and recorded all of the guitars and bass guitars on the album, rather than using samples. It was released on February 16, 2011. An unofficial sequel, ''[[https://tenseimusic.bandcamp.com/album/strife-2 Strife 2]]'' (stylized as "STR'''II'''FE"), was released on March 13, 2017.\

* ''Homestuck Vol. 7: At the Price of Oblivion'' is the fourteenth official album, released on May 31, 2011. Compared to some of the previous Volumes, it is a much darker album overall, reflecting the darker tone the story had taken at the time. It contains:

* ''[[https://bowman.bandcamp.com/album/mobius-trip-and-hadron-kaleido Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido]]'' is the fifteenth official released on May 31, 2011. It's the fourth solo album, this time from Michael Bowman. It's a themed album, unlike the others in that it is set during Sburb proper.[[labelnote:backstory]]To quote the Bandcamp site: "Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido, agents of Prospit and Derse. They once fought on the battlefield as their respective nemeses, only to be united by a common epiphany - the truth behind the Ultimate Riddle. Gazing upon the Skaian clouds, the secrets of the past, present, and future are now well guarded by these strange sentinels who spread enlightenment through their cryptic music and dance. Together, they hope their songs may be a beacon to all those who undertake the Riddle". However according to Andrew's newspost, it is about a separate session and doesn't correspond to the events in the story.[[/labelnote]] It is unlike many of the ''Homestuck'' albums in that most of the songs are accompanied by vocals. 402* ''[[https://solatrus.bandcamp.com/album/prospit-derse Prospit & Derse]]'' is the eighteenth official album and the sixth solo album, this time from Jeremy "Solatrus" Iamurri. It was released on August 22nd, 2011. It focuses on the planets of Derse and Prospit, themed roughly around the four kids exploring the two planets. It is split between two genres, the first half of the album being upbeat classical pieces while the later half is more dark electrical. The tracks are mostly played with the instruments associated with the kids[[note]]The Prospit half is very lighthearted and full of piano, bass, and flute, whereas the Derse half is a lot darker with more synths and violin solos[[/note]]. It consists of eight tracks, the first four applying to Prospit and the latter four to Derse [[note]]Solatrus has noted that the Derse tracks are more of his forte and believes they are the stronger part of the album, but is proud of Prospit regardless. YMMV completely of course.[[/note]].

[[folder:[=coloUrs=] and mayhem]]
%% Tildes are used as a some sort of formatting, ironically for musical albums, and I can't seem to find a way around it. Hyphens convey the same meaning without breaking the wiki.
* ''coloUrs and mayhem'' is actually two releases, the twenty-first and twenty-second official releases respectively. They are the results of a fan music contest and therefore all songs are from musicians not associated with the Music Team. However, many songs were renamed and some were reassigned to different characters. Because so many songs were selected, it is split into two albums, subtitled Universe A and Universe B. Universe A is primarily ambient and orchestral songs, while Universe B is more energetic and lively. Both albums also display heavy influences of rock, chiptune, and electronic music. They are mostly composed of original songs, though Universe B does include several remixes.
** Universe A was released on April 2, 2012. It focuses on the Troll Session and Alternia and consists of 32 tracks [[note]]One artist's submissions ("Indigo Archer" and "Purple Tyrant") were removed due to plagiarism. Tracks of the same name but different composition were later added to the album in their place, and may be downloaded for free. In 2021, "Indigo Archer" and "Temporal Shenanigans" were removed from the Bandcamp at composer Rachel Rose Mitchell's request.[[/note]].

* ''Homestuck Vol. 9'' is the twenty-third official release and focuses on characters from Act 6. It was released on June 12, 2012, in recognition of Act 5 Act 1 (or Hivebent)'s second anniversary. It hearkens back to Volume 1, and was intended to originally be a parallel to it, but as Act 6 diversified from Act 1, so did Volume 9. 703
!!The What Pumpkin music label contains examples of:

* AwardBaitSong: Michael Guy Bowman covers two of these (specifically "[[Film/ConAir How Do I Live]]" and "[[Film/Armageddon1998 I Don't Want To Miss a Thing]]") and exaggerates them to the point of comedy.
* BalconyWooingScene: "[[Film/ConAir How Do I Live]] (D8 Night Version)" has a track art showing John holding a stereo over his head in a ShoutOut to ''Film/SayAnything''.
* DistinctDoubleAlbum: Both "coloUrs and mayhem" albums feature two main sides, one for the first iteration of a universe in question and one for the scratched iteration of that universe.
* TheElevatorFromIpanema: The sixth volume features a track called Elevatorstuck which remixes the ''Homestuck'' Theme into the style of this trope, though the flashes in which it was ultimately used had nothing to do with elevators. Its usually used as background music, or to infuriate and annoy people who complain [[LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn about the background music.]]
* EpicRocking:
** The most extreme example is "Cascade," a thirteen minute long soundtrack billed as one song that accompanied the end of ''Homestuck'''s fifth act. It consists of four parts combined together by the composition of Toby Fox.
** The longest singular song is "Renewed Return," a choral song that clocks in at nine full minutes and ten seconds.
** Right behind "Renewed Return" is "Overture (Canon Edit)" from ''Act 7'', which is a two minute extension of Clark Powell's "Overture" from ''Symphony Impossible to Play'', a song that's nine minute on the dot and was specifically made to conclude the ''Homestuck'' webcomic.
* EverythingIsAnInstrument: "The March of the Batterwitch" uses a kettle pot boiling and other sounds common in a kitchen to make a fitting theme for the diabolical Betty Crocker, and "Temporal Shenanigans" uses a metronome to imitate a ticking clock.
* FadingIntoTheNextSong: In ''One Year Older'', the song "Negastrife" ends with the first few notes of "Mother," which immediately follows it.
* FakeBand:
** The Midnight Crew, a gang of violent mobsters, are cast as a jazz band with their album The Midnight Crew: Drawing Dead.
** Their rival gang, the Felt, get their own album which reflects their temporal abilities and larger cast size by looping and reversing orchestral music in a genre dubbed "temporelechestral."
** The Wanderers of the album of the same name are a group of aliens exiled to a long dead Earth, and as such there music is more tribal and primitive than the often techno-inspired ''Homestuck'' fair.
* FakeInteractivity: "Michael Bowman Tells You About the Squiddles" from ''Squiddles!'' has Bowman ask his "audience" if they're ready to sing along with him and assumes they answer in the affirmative before going into the chorus.
* HellIsThatNoise: The honks added to "Blackest Hearts" in ''Alterniabound'' serve to unnerve the viewer and add to Gamzee's atmosphere of absurd terror.
* TheHerosJourney: John goes through this throughout [[https://erikscheele.bandcamp.com/album/one-year-older One Year Older]], waking up at sunrise to an ordinary life with his friends only to be pushed into a frantic, beautiful and massive adventure that ends with him reflecting on it all after confronting evil in "Negastrife."
* {{Leitmotif}}: Most characters have not only a song (or several!) associated with them, but also an instrument.
** John has Showtime, Doctor, and nearing the finale, Pipeorgankind (though Pipeorgankind seems to mostly be a remix of Showtime).
** Rose has Aggrieve and Chorale for Jaspers as her main themes, the second having been [[BootstrappedTheme bootstrapped from Jaspers]]. Like with John, Aggrieve stops being a noticeable theme for her sometime around Act 5. Rose is also associated with violins.
** Dave has Beatdown, Atomyk Ebonpyre, and Sunslammer as his themes, the last serving primarily as a RecurringRiff. Dave is also primarily associated with synths (though not to the extent of the Trolls), turntables, and drum kits, as well as guitars to a degree.
** Jade has The Beginning Of Something Really Excellent and Frost as her themes. Much like with John, as of Act 5, her "main" theme is considered ambiguous. Jade is also associated with both bass guitars and flutes.
** The Trolls in general are associated with the track Alternia, and primarily have different varieties of synths as their associated instruments.
*** Karkat has Crustacean, and is primarily associated with chiptune-esque synths.
*** Terezi has The Lemonsnout Turnabout and is primarily associated with harpsicords.
*** Gamzee has Blackest Heart and is primarily associated with honking.
*** Tavros has dESPERADO ROCKET CHAIRS, and is associated with faux-spanish flavored music, primarily trumpet synths.
*** Vriska has Spider's Claw and Crystalanthemums, and is associated with slow paced guitar synths.
*** Kanaya has Virgin Orb, and is associated with ethereal ambient synths.
*** Sollux has The [=La2t=] Frontiier, and is primarily associated with fast paced overdriven guitar synths, in addition to occasional duality themed songs, that alternate pace and style.
*** Aradia has psych0ruins, and is primarily associated with what is best described as a wailing or crying synth riff.
*** Nepeta has Walls Covered In Blood and is associated with ''VideoGame/MarioPaint'' music.
*** Eridan has Eridan's Theme and does not have a an identifiable associated instrument, more often echoing the instruments of other trolls.
*** Equius has Horschestra, and is primarily associated with slow trumpets and beats, which can only be defined as proud.
*** Feferi had Keepers and later, Love You (Feferi's Theme). She is primarily associated with faux-tropical music.
*** Meenah is associated with dubstep style wubs and her theme is Fuschia Ruler.
*** Kankri is associated with devotional music and his theme is Iron Infidel.
*** Latula is associated with harpsicords and orchestral music like Terezi, but with cheesy GamerGirl beats and raps. Her theme is Game Glr (A remix of Teal Seer and Game Grl), an unreleased song.
*** Porrim is associated with etheral ambient synths like Kanaya, only taken in a more cheerful and melodic direction. Her theme is Darling Dolorosa, an unreleased track.
** As his theme Lord English has English. He is associated with [[DarkReprise many instruments associated with the protagonists]], including pianos, violins, and honking.
** The Midnight Crew does not have identifiable themes, though they are all associated with dark jazz. They do however have instruments, seen rather than heard.
*** Spades Slick is associated with pianos.
*** Diamonds Droog is associated with saxophones.
*** Clubs Deuce is associated with oboes.
*** Hearts Boxcars is associated with cellos.
** WV has Vagabounce, which reflects on his sillier antics as the mayor of Can Town.
** PM has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtzNs4pH11Y Litrichean Rioghail]], representing her [[{{Determinator}} dutiful nature]].
** The other Exiles have their own themes though none have been used in the comic itself so far:
*** AR has the bonus track [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqs4yf_Fs4I Tomahawk Head]].
*** Windswept Questant/The White Queen has Questant's Lament.
*** Writ Keeper/The White King has Riches To Ruins.
** Skaia is associated with Skies of Skaia.
** Jack Noir has Liquid Negrocity as his theme. He is also associated with trumpets and heavy guitars.
* MinimalisticCoverArt: The cover for ''Medium'' mostly consists of white space, with a simplified Land of Wind and Shade and some oil in the middle.
* MinisculeRocking: The ''coloUrs and mayhem'' albums contain three tracks each less than twenty second longs to introduce each side of the album.
* {{Not}}: Towards the end of "[=GameGrl=] (Original 1993 Mix)", [=GameGrl=] claims, "I could just keep doing this all day... NOT!" as part of the song's parodying of TotallyRadical 90s culture.
* ProgressiveInstrumentation: [[https://homestuck.bandcamp.com/track/omelette-sandwich-2 "Omelette Sandwich"]] periodically rewinds itself, layering in new instruments and speeding up each time to reflect how Eggs and Biscuits grow more frenzied as they bring in more copies of themselves. At the very end, the instruments cut out in the reverse order as the song slows back down.
* PublicDomainSoundtrack: Coincidentally, the Midnight Crew share a name with a 1909 release called "I'm a Member of the Midnight Crew." In reference to this and thanks to its descent into the public domain, the song was included in ''Homestuck Vol. 8''.
* {{Sampling}}:
** "Black" opens with a pitched-down version of the line "make her a member of the Midnight Crew" from "I'm a Member of the Midnight Crew" by Eddie Morton.
** "Dupliblaze COMAGMA" features snippets of "Drop It Like It's Hot" by Music/SnoopDogg.
** "Mayor Maynot" samples the Mailtime song from ''WesternAnimation/BluesClues'', and ComicBook/JudgeDredd's quote, "I AM THE LAW!"
** "Blackest Heart (With Honks)" samples "Miracles" by Music/InsaneClownPosse as a play on Gamzee's religious devotion to a cult similar to the Posse.
** "The Blind Prophet" samples some of Cyclops' ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom'' quotes with some ''WesternAnimation/KingOfTheHill'' voiceclips in-between.
* ShoutOut:
** "Dawn of Man" from ''Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido'' references the titular Dawn of Man scene from ''Film/TwoThousandOneASpaceOdyssey''. The song also contains the phrase, "[[Theatre/{{Hamlet}} This goodly frame]]," to refer to Earth.
** The title of one of the songs from ''Vol. 10'' is "You Killed My Father (Prepare To Die)", in reference to the famous scene from ''Film/ThePrincessBride''.
** "Humphrey's Lullaby" from ''Felt'' references Professor Mayonaka's[[note]]The creator of the Midnight Crew[[/note]] fanventure [[https://mspfa.com/?s=21&p=1 Felt]], in which Doze owns a teddy bear named Humphrey.
* StylisticSuck: "[=GameGrl=] (Original 1993 Mix)" and and "[=GameBro=] (Original 1990 Mix)" are both cringe-inducing raps done for comedy.
* TakeOurWordForIt: In "[=GameGrl=] (Original 1993 Mix)", the crowd's wave and [=GameGrl=]'s dance moves are not seen; only the in-universe reactions are heard.
-->'''[=GameGrl=]:''' Let's have a dance party RIGHT NOW. Everybody do the wave!\
'''Crowd:''' Whoa-''ohhhh!''\
'''[=GameGrl=]:''' Yeah, that's pretty good. Check it out!\
''[Crowd starts chanting "go, go, go, go"]''\
'''[=GameGrl=]:''' I'm dancing! I'm dancing! Check this move out! Oh man, oh yeah!
* TextlessAlbumCover:
** ''Symphony Impossible To Play'' features a giant violin over a forest under siege by meteors, likely because of how long the title was.
** The cover of ''Act 7'' is an undoctored still from the final animation of ''Homestuck'' and as such features no text over it.
* TickTockTune:
** ''The Felt'', being an album which reflects on the eponymous gang and its time powers, has three songs with clock ticking: "Swing of the Clock", "The Broken Clock" and "Time Paradox".
** ''coloUrs and mayhem'' has "Temporal Shenanigans" that includes ticking clocks as well.
* TitleDrop: One of the few conventional drops of ''Homestuck'''s comes in ''Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido's'' "Chain of Prospit."
-->Hold up, there's data structures you can bone up
-->You might be feeling like you're home stuck
* TotallyRadical: "[=GameBro=] (Original 1990 Mix)" and "[=GameGrl=] (Original 1993 Mix)" emulate stereotypical ideas of what being "cool" meant in the nineties with truly awful rap music.
* UncommonTime: It was confirmed by Erik "Jit" Scheele that the track "The Broken Clock" from The Felt album was written in 13/8. There's also "Judgment Day" from Vol. 8, which is in [[ArcNumber 13/4 with 413 BPM]] (although only the drums sound as fast as this would imply).
* WordPureeTitle: Out of all the song titles, "Crystamanthequins" is probably the most nonsensical, combining "crystal meth", "chrysanthemum", "mannequin" and "harlequin".
