Cult alternative pop band formed in London in the mid-1980s and revolving around a creative core of Alex Ayuli and Rudy Tambala. Initially dubbed "the black ''[[Music/TheJesusAndMaryChain Jesus and Mary Chain]]''" by critics, they diversified their sound and became influential on the Shoegazing and DreamPop styles (the latter of which they named as an attempt to describe their own sound). Also part of the [=MARRS=] collective which recorded the 1987 hit "Pump Up The Volume". Tambala now leads a SpiritualSuccessor band, Jübl.

!Trope namer for:
* DreamPop - coined by Alex Ayuli, though it's arguable that they only loosely fitted into the style as it would eventually come to be recognised.

!Other tropes relating to [=A.R.Kane=]:
* GenreRoulette: Their second album ''"i"'' headed off in lots of different directions, from GlamRock to BaroquePop.
* InsistentTerminology: "Dream pop" was originally this. They kept using it in interviews, ads, and even on record sleeves, until it caught on.
* IntentionallyAwkwardTitle: ''"i"'' - yes, it's lowercase, and more confusingly, the quotation marks are part of the title.
