As an adult, Grindelwald terrorized the Wizarding World for many years and, before his defeat, seemed unstoppable outside Dumbledore's personal intervention. Dumbledore would later recount to Harry Potter that he and Grindelwald were "evenly matched" (with the caveat that he was "perhaps a shade more skillful" than Grindelwald). Their duel in 1945 was considered by many the greatest in history. Rita Skeeter, a reporter and historian, regards Grindelwald as one of the most dangerous Dark Wizards of all time, second only to Lord Voldemort. During his debut in the ''Fantastic Beasts'' series, he hands out a CurbStompBattle to anyone but Dumbledore who tries to fight him, including the likes of war hero Theseus Scamander, the protagonist Newt Scamander, who has similarly experienced the First World War like his brother, albeit without the same fame as Theseus had, and Tina Goldstein, and even manages to reach a stalemate with Dumbledore himself in the third film, a feat no one else in the series ever manages to do, not even Voldemort, and that's with Dumbledore at his prime, who is not quite as great of a fighter as he was old even with the Elder Wand.
