10	Speaking of this, middle names in many countries are used as patronyms (or matronyms) and serve a purpose more akin to a surname than a first name, this tradition somehow translates in Western countries as giving a middle name in tribute to an ancestor, if not the direct parents. Sometimes, a child may be given their mother's maiden name as a middle one, or NamedAfterSomebodyFamous (such as a president) and have said somebody's surname as their middle name. This tradition of giving more unusual names as the middle ones can be a reason for a character to go on a Middle Name Basis as they find the name much cooler than their first one.
