InSeriesNickname in Anime & Manga.
----
* Momotaro Nobi from Manga/SevenSeeds is called "Nobita" by several people, much to his dislike and frequent corrections.
* Manga/Aruosumente:
** Legna is nicknamed Angel by his peers; it also doubles as a MeaningfulName, and is based on the angel wings Oracles wear on the backs of their cloaks of office. Legna's not particularly happy about the nickname, but doesn't protest too much either.
** Dante is nicknamed "Black Chariot" because of his deeds -- killing 300 enemy soldiers in one battle -- ten years ago.
* In Manga/AsteroidInLove, Mira gives nearly everyone a nickname. Those are main truncations of their family names, but the case of Mari "Monroe" Morino needs special mention. It's not only because the similarity of her name to Creator/MarilynMonroe's, but also because she share some appearance traits with Marilyn: both of them have a beauty mark (at different places), and Mari has the largest cup size in the cast.
* Manga/AttackOnTitan has a few among The 104th Trainee Corps; none of them particularly flattering.
** Eren Yeager was known as "that suicidal bastard" due to his hot-headed temperament and eagerness to fight Titans.
** Sasha Blouse became known as "Potato Girl" because of an incident during the recruits' initiation.
** Jean Kirstein is sometimes called "Horse-Face", even by people he's just met.
* Manga/AzumangaDaioh:
** Ayumu Kasuga gets tagged with the nickname "Osaka" after about five minutes. This proceeds to supplant her actual name, to the point at which she struggles to find it on the class listings, and then has it pointed out that they used her nickname, as well.
** Also, Yukari-sensei's beat-up vehicle is dubbed the "Yukari-guruma", which means the "Yukari-car."
** Speaking of Yukari-sensei, she calls her old friend Kurosawa-sensei "Nyamo" rather than her actual personal name Minamo. Tomo being essentially an adolescent Yukari does the same.
* Manga/Bakuman:
** Nanamine gets the nickname "Usomine" (typically translated as "Liarmine") from his contributors after they suspect, correctly, that he's lying to them about .
** Also Mashiro's middle school colleagues often call him "Saikou", which is an alternate reading of his name "Moritaka". When Takagi starts to use this nickname regularly, Mashiro starts calling Takagi "Shuujin", which is an alternate reading of Takagi's name "Akito". One of Takagi's friends also calls him "Shuuto" in a flashback.
** Azuki, as a voice actress, is often known as "Azukyun" by her fans [[spoiler:and later "Abazurekyun" -- derived from the Japanese word for "bitch" ("Bitch-kyun" in the Viz translation) after her relationship with Mashiro comes to light]].
* In Manga/BlackButler, Grell gives Sebastian the flirtatious nickname of "Sebas-chan" in the Japanese version. In the dub, she goes with "Bassy". Doubles as a PunnyName since Sebas-chan is close to how Sebastian (Se-Basu-Chi-An) is pronounced in Japanese. Grell tends to have a rather punny way of talking in the Japanese version.
* Manga/Bleach:
** Almost everyone receives a nickname off resident TheNicknamer, Yachiru. It's almost potluck as to whether someone ends up with an InSeriesNickname or an AffectionateNickname or an EmbarrassingNickname and she'll often forget a previous nickname she's given and grant a new one.
** Yamamoto is called "Old Man" or "Old Man Yama" by more than a few, including Kyouraku, Kenpachi, and Ichigo.
* Koume Sawaguchi from Manga/BlueSeed was called "The Hurricane" during her time in the Japanese Self-Defense Force, where she worked before she was discharged due to insubordination and then transferred to the TAC without her knowledge.
* In Manga/BoboboboBobobo, Beauty calls Heppokomaru/Gasser "He-kun/Gas Can".
* A few characters in Manga/Bokurano have nicknames, such as Aiko "Anko" Tokiosumi, Chizuru "Chizu" Honda, Masaru "Kodama" Kodaka, Takami "Komo" Komoda, and Mako "Nakama" Nakarai. The manga indicates that the latter suggested this as a way to make friends. Also in the manga, there's Junji Karita, who is dubbed "Katari" by the pilots, .
* In Manga/Brave10, characters tend to refer to each other very informally, using a mix of nicknames, job names, or HeyYou. A few of the more prominent nicknamed characters are:
** Sarutobi Sasuke, whom Saizo calls "monkey"
** Anastasia of the Glacier, who is almost universally called Ana.
** Isanami, who is referred to by the not very delicate Kamanosuke as "the bitch."
* Manga/CaseClosed:
** Kogoro Mouri is widely known as "Sleeping Kogoro," due to the sleeping posture when he solves cases. This is, in fact, the effect of Conan's using InstantSedation needles on him and using a voice changer to imitate Kogoro's voice.
** The main antagonists are called the Black Organisation, even by official organisations like the FBI, due to the black clothing favored by high-ranking members. The actual name of the organisation is unknown.
* In Literature/ACertainMagicalIndex, Toma gives Mikoto Misaka the nickname Biri Biri, which is the Japanese onomatopoeia for an electrical discharge. In the English dub, he calls her "Bug-zapper".
* In Literature/ChromeShelledRegios, Layfon is nicknamed "Layton" by a trio of girls he meets, because it's apparently easier to pronounce. Felli gets jealous when she hears this and decides to call him "Fon-fon". When Layfon objects, she runs through several variations of nicknames ("Lay-kun, Lay-chan, Lay-cchi, Senko no Lay...") before he finally just accepts Fon-fon.
* Manga/ChibiMarukoChan: The main character Momoko Sakura's nickname is "Maruko". She is almost always called by this name or a variant of it in place of her actual first name (i.e. in a situation in Japanese culture where the use of the first name would be called for).
* Anime/CodeGeass:
** Jeremiah is called Orange-kun/Orange Boy. By [=R2=], the "-kun" has been dropped. And the nickname that ruined him has become a mark of badass, because he is the EnsembleDarkHorse.
** Lelouch is dubbed "Lulu" by Shirley and Milly. What's more, among the closer members of her family (and LoveInterest Suzaku) Euphemia goes by "Euphy".
* Tohma is called "Tonma" by Masaru in the original Japanese Anime/DigimonDataSquad.
* Manga/DontMeddleWithMyDaughter: Athena Haruka is canonically known by several nicknames: Her superhero name is "The Eighth Wonder", because of the numerous abilities she possesses. She was later addressed as the "First Generation Eighth", once the public became aware that she's the mother of the current "Eighth Wonder"Athena's 17-year-old daughter, Clara. The latter lead to her third in-series nickname, "The MILF of Steel", because Athena is also a HotGoddess and has retained her figure, despite being a single mom with a 17-year-old daughter.
* In Manga/DragonBall, Goku comes up with the nickname "Eighter" ("Hatchan" in Japan), because apparently "Android Number Eight" (Or "Jinzouningen Hachi-gou" in Japanese) is too hard for him to say.
* In Manga/DragonBallSuper, the evil deity who poses himself as Son Goku is nicknamed "Goku Black" (or just "Black" for short) by Future Bulma because he's a Goku who wears black and she refuses to acknowledge him as her beloved friend Son-kun. The Dragon Team sticks with it and they keep calling their enemy Goku Black or just Black, while Black himself never acknowledges his new nickname. His real name is , but all media label him as Goku Black, which is necessary to differentiate him from .
* Merry Nightmare from Manga/DreamEaterMerry is also known as, well... Yumekui/Dream Eater Merry.
* Manga/FruitsBasket:
** The unfortunate Yuki Sohma gets the nickname of "Yun Yun" (which he points out is longer than his actual name. This does nothing to dissuade the nickname-giver, Manabe, however). Another student council member is branded with the Chibi (or Chibisuke).
** Ayame gave Kyo the nickname "Kyonkitchi" (or "Lucky Kyo", in the English dub).
* Manga/FullmetalAlchemist has a few.
** Alphonse calls Edward "brother" more often than his actual name.
** Roy Mustang refers to his hand-selected subordinates as chess pieces -- the Queen, the Knight, the Bishop, the Rook, and the Pawn. He, of course, is the King. They're really code names, but they're also affectionate nicknames as these people are his FamilyOfChoice.
** Soldiers serving at the northern fortress of Briggs are almost universally known as the Briggs Bears.
* Tamahome from Manga/FushigiYuugi has been known as "Obake-chan" since childhood because of his markings. Don't call him that, though.
* In Anime/FutureGPXCyberFormula, Ryouhei Sumi is called "Pei". Likewise, Miki has been called "Chief" by Ryouhei due to her being the chief mechanic for the first 3 series.
* Manga/GAGeijutsukaArtDesignClass:
** Sasamoto-sensei was known by her students as "Tono-sensei," due to an InUniverse application of MemeticBadass. When a couple of the GA-1 students are looking for her, the Art Club members (for whom Sasamoto is their advisor) can't remember her name, and resort to a brief anecdote which identifies her immediately.
** Miyabi Oomichi, is known as "Professor" (except by Namiko, who calls her "Masa" via alternate reading of the kanji, and teachers, who use her surname); and played up to near-OnlyKnownByTheirNickname levels.
* In Manga/GhostHunt, Mai immediately starts calling TallDarkAndSnarky paranormal investigator Kazuya Shibuya "Naru", because it reminds her of how narcissistic she thinks he is.
* Manga/Gintama: Katsura is often called "Zura" mostly by Gintoki, which also doubles as an EmbarrassingNickname since it's the slang for "wig". This is something he really doesn't appreciate, to the point where he constantly corrects anyone calling him anything other than his real name.
* Anime/GirlsUndPanzer:
** Saori often calls Miho "Miporin" and Yukari "Yukarin". Interestingly enough, she doesn't do the same for Hana, whom she's known before the series, and her ChildhoodFriend Mako.
** The three girls of the Disciplinary Committee[=/=]Mallard team have nicknames- Midoriko "Sodoko" Sono, Moyoko "Gomoyo" Gotou and Nozomi "Pazomi" Konparu"
** Sodoko, irritated by Mako calling her "Sodoko" despite her objections, once tries calling her "Remako", but it doesn't stick, and she goes back to calling her "Reizei-san" shortly afterward.
** Miho is once referred to as "Mihosha" by Katyusha.
* In Anime/GreatPretender, Laurent mishears Makoto's full name, Makoto Edamura, as "Edamame" at first. The name "Edamame" sticks with him, and becomes Makoto's AffectionateNickname among the crew. Laurent himself is known as "the blond bastard" by the crew for his general untrustworthiness and manipulative tendencies.
* In Manga/GreatTeacherOnizuka, Tomoko's classmates call her "Toroko" (Slo-mo-ko in the translation) because she's "slow".
* Manga/HarlemBeat: Mizuki calls Naruse “Narucho”, Sawamura calls Kiriko “Witch” and Kobayashi “Umbrella Guy” (based on the image of aloof umbrella maker during JidaiGeki), Takao nicknamed Kobayashi as “Musashi” for his samurai-esque attitude, Zukeran Tetsuya from Kyan was often called “Kemp” for his resemblance to Shawn Kemp, Those Three Guys from Threemen’s Hoop only known by their nicknames.
* Prussia in Webcomic/HetaliaAxisPowers calls his brother Germany "West". Also, Poland calls his HeterosexualLifePartner Lithuania "Liet" (which is a shortening of "Lietuva", the Lithuanian name for, well, Lithuania) and Switzerland calls his little sister Liechtenstein "Liechten".
* Manga/IGotMyWishAndReincarnatedAsTheVillainessLastBoss: Despite having properly introduced himself, Elizabeth keeps calling her cat-bodied Familiar Luna "Mr. Cat." ("Kuroneko-san", or "Mr. Black Cat" in Japanese).
* Ami and Mami have one for almost everyone on the main cast in the anime version of Anime/TheIdolMaster.
* Every protagonist in Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure is nicknamed "[=JoJo=]". For instance:
** Phantom Blood: Jonathan Joestar, the first and most common recipient of the nickname.
** Battle Tendency: Joseph Joestar. He was called [=JoJo=] pretty often in Part 2, but was generally addressed by his surname in Part 3 and 4 due to being so much older than the rest of the cast save [=DIO=], who only called him Joseph since he probably reserved the [=JoJo=] nickname for Jonathan.
** Stardust Crusaders: Jotaro Kujo (which given Jotaro is Japanese would be stated as "Kujo Jotaro). While he's called [=JoJo=] fairly often by his schoolmates and a few times by the other Crusaders, this part having two [=JoJo's=] meant he's just called Jotaro most of the time.
** Diamond is Unbreakable plays with this; the second kanji in Josuke Higashikata's given name can also be read as "Jo". It's pointed out once at the beginning of the Part and never comes up again.
** Golden Wind also plays with this with Giorno Giovanna, which can be spelled as "[=GioGio=]". In Italian phonetics, the syllable "gio" is pronounced the same way as "jo", not like the English word "geo". As a result, his name spelt out with Japanese phonetics is rendered as "Joruno Jobāna". However, this isn't stated in the Part proper, only in promotional materials.
** Stone Ocean: Jolyne Cujoh. The most prominent user of the nickname since her father, though she only lets certain people such as her mother use it.
** Steel Ball Run: Johnny Joestar. Other than "[=JoJo=]", Johnny has 2 other nicknames, which are "Joe Kid" and "Johnny". The latter is a nickname for his real name "Jonathan".
** JoJolion: The protagonist borrows the name "Josuke Higashikata", which, as previously mentioned, can be shortened to "[=JoJo=]". However, Josuke's name does not use the same kanji as Josuke from Part 4, but .
* Manga/KaguyaSamaLoveIsWar:
** Ishigami refers to Maki as "Tsundere-sempai" because of her feelings towards her crush Tsubasa.
** Karen is known as "Shiptrash" due to her obsession with shipping Kaguya and Shirogane.
** Erika is called "Miso-chan" as a result of being the daughter of the CEO of a Miso production company and being just as obsessed with it as she is with Kaguya.
* In Manga/KOn, Yui refers to her friends as, Azusa; Azunyan (Moe cat ears), Ritsu; Ricchan, and Tsumugi; Mugi. She probably would have given Mio a nickname if her name wasn't already short enough. For Azusa (and the others, in the anime), this becomes a clue when Ui tries to covertly fill in for a sick Yui, as she doesn't use these.
* After Nadeshiko purchased a large amount of Mount Fuji souvenirs in the third episode of Manga/LaidBackCamp, she's being called Fujiko by fellow club members.
* In Anime/LastExile, Dio calls Claus "Immelman" after his trademark piloting maneuver.
* Manga/LuckyStar plays with this one. Tsukasa calls Konata and Miyuki "Kona-chan" and "Yuki-chan" respectively. (Fairly normal.) Also, Konata tries to come up with a nickname for Kagami. Tsukasa mentions that an alternate reading for Kagami's name kanji is "Kyou", so Konata calls Kagami "Kyou-chan". That embarrasses/pisses of Kagami, and when Konata asks what she can call Kagami, Kagami's suggestion is to call her Kagami-sama (roughly translates as "The Great Kagami"). Naturally, this backfires when Konata actually does it. Kagami is so embarrassed that she asks Konata to stop, please, for the love of God.
* Anime/LupinIII and his gang often refer to Inspector Zenigata as "tottsan", which usually gets translated as "Pops". Likewise, in the English dub of the series, Lupin likes to affectionately refer to Fujiko as "Fujicakes".
* Franchise/LyricalNanoha:
** The Liese twins, Lieselotte and Liesearia, are known as Lotte and Aria as well as Liese when both of them are addressed. This has caused a major confusion among the fandom and most fans believe their names are actually written in eastern order in Japanese and think they are called "Lotte Liese" and "Aria Liese" in western order.
** Lotte calls Chrono "Chrosuke"/"Kurosuke".
** Reinforce Zwei's nickname is just "Rein".
** Teana is called "Tea" by the other three Forward members.
** Lutecia is called "Lulu", "Lu", "Lu-ojousama" "Lu-chan" and "Lu-ko" by her friends.
** Zafira is often called "Zaffy" by Vivio and Isis.
** Vita is called "Anego" ("Big Sister" or "Boss") by Agito and Lutecia.
** Olivie's nickname was "Vivi" which explains Vivio's name origin.
** Shario Finienno and Mariel Atenza are mostly known by their nicknames "Shari" and "Mari".
** There's actually an in-universe term for the nicknames granted to devices, "mascot names". Vivio, Einhard, Rio, and Fuka call their Devices Sacred Heart, Asteion, Solfège, and Huracan, "Cris", "Teo", "Sol" and "Hura" respectively. Detonation reveals that this term also extends to humanoid constructs like Terraforming Unit IR-S07 (or as the audience better knows them, ).
** Among the major DSAA Inter-Middle Championship participants, Sieglinde Jeremiah, Victoria Dahlgrün and Micaiah Chevelle are known as "Sieg", "Victor" and "Mica-nee", respectively.
** Sieglinde eventually starts calling Einhard "Har-nyan".
** Thoma calls Subaru and Alto "Su-chan" and "Aa-chan", respectively.
** The Hückebein members Veyron, Arnage, and [=DeVille=] are often called "Vey", "Aru" and "Ville", respectively.
* Anime/MacrossFrontier has a few.
** The most notable one is Alto-hime, or just "Hime" (Japanese for "Princess"). He doesn't like it.
** Sheryl Nome's is "The Galactic Fairy"
** Ranka Lee's is "Super Dimension Cinderella"
* Luna, aka Prez, in VideoGame/MegaManStarForce.
* Manga/MissKobayashisDragonMaid:
** Quetzalcoatl is almost exclusively referred to as "Lucoa".
** Taketo is usually called "Take".
* In the Cosmic Era, none of the mobile suits are officially designated as "Franchise/Gundam." Instead, it's a nickname that Kira and a handful of his friends use to refer to mobile suits that run on the G.U.N.D.A.M. operating system. Even then, it's used rather sparingly.
** Tallgeese in Anime/SDGundamForce has a fan club among the Zako Soldiers, referring to him as Lord T.
* Manga/Naruto:
** Naruto calls Jiraiya "Ero Sennin" (Pervy Sage)
** Rock Lee and Might Guy are nicknamed "Bushy Brows" and "Super Bushy Brows-sensei" respectively.
* Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi:
** Nodoka is known as "Honya"Japanese for Bookstore by most of the class. Chamo also has his own nicknames for most of the girls, but listing them all would take too long.
** Albireo Imma/Ku:nel Sanders loves referring to Evangeline as "Kitty" (based off of her second middle name, "Katherine"), simply because it pisses her off.
** And since won't reveal her name, Negi has taken to referring to her as "Poyo" after her VerbalTic.
* In Anime/NightWizard, Hiiragi Renji is nicknamed "fallen man" because of all the time's he's had to repeat grades, (due to his duties as a Night Wizard).
* Manga/OnePiece:
** The manga has many, most famously "Straw Hat Luffy" since most enemies casually call him "Straw Hat". This may be more NomDeGuerre, though, especially the ones in the form of TheMagnificent.
** Outside of titles, plenty of characters are given genuine nicknames, many by Luffy. This is most notable in Dressrosa, where we get "Doffy" (an AffectionateNickname for Donquixote Doflamingo used by his Executives), "Cabbage" (Cavendish), "Traffy" (Trafalgar Law), and plenty more.
** Still on the subject of the Dressrosa arc, Luffy himself gets a nickname there: most of the citizens call him "Lucy", due to him initially using that nickname to fight in the Corrida Colosseum tournament incognito. Even after his real name becomes public, the citizens continue calling him Lucy, out of habit.
** Sanji occasionally uses nicknames with a few of his crew-mates ("Moss-head" for Zoro, "Nami Swan" for Nami, etc). Likewise, Usopp is sometimes called "long nose" by many characters, even some of his own mates.
* Todomatsu Matsuno from Anime/OsomatsuSan is referred to as "Totty" by his coworkers in Sutabaa. When his brothers pay an unwanted visit to the cafe, they overhear him having a conversation with said coworkers and catch onto his nickname. The other sextuplets use this nickname for him from Episode 7 on (Jyushimatsu especially).
* In Anime/PanzerWorldGalient, everybody refers to Jordy Volder as Jojo. Justified, since his guardian Asbeth is hiding his royal lineage until the time is right to rally up the White Valley's rebels.
* Half the main cast of Manga/ParadiseKiss. Daisuke chooses the name "Isabella", partly to express her gender identity, and also because she apparently has a thing for European names. She imposes the name "Sebastian" on her servant Ueda, she probably inspired Jọuji to spell his name "George" (if not the other way around) and she calls Yukari "Carrie", but that's a nickname for her other nickname "Caroline", given by Miwako for no discernible reason.
* Hachiroto "Hachimaki" Hoshino in Anime/Planetes. Later, it was revealed that his mentor gave everybody (except Hakim) nicknames; Edel was "Hourglass" and Tanabe was "Little Lady" at first, then "Angel".
* In Anime/PonyoOnTheCliffByTheSea, "Ponyo" is just a nickname Sousuke gives to the titular fish. Her real name is Brunhilde. Her dad is none too happy about the fact that she prefers to be called Ponyo.
* Anime/Redline has "Sweet JP," our main character, a racecar driver who looks kinda like Travis Touchdown with even crazier hair. "Sweet JP" is obviously not his real name, it's just been heaped on him because he's the only racer who doesn't mount weapons on his CoolCar.
* Anime/RurouniKenshin: Perhaps as a nod to the author's own liking for UsefulNotes/TheShinsengumi, Yahiko posits "Kenshin-gumi" for Kenshin's TrueCompanions very early in the series.
* On Manga/SailorMoon, Usagi/Serena is called "Odango Atama," "Meatball Head" or "Dumpling Head" in reference to her unusual hairstyle.
* Manga/Saki:
** Several characters start calling Saki "Rinshan-san" after she demonstrates her uncanny ability to win with Rinshan Kaihou.Rinshan Kaihou is when you acquire all 4 copies of any one tile, then draw the winning tile immediately after you complete the set -- a purely LuckBasedMission.
** Momo typically refers to Nodoka as BoobBasedGag"Boobs-san", and has a few other nicknames for certain characters in her internal monologues, such as calling Tomoki "Ryuumonbuchi's glasses girl". Momo herself is often known as "Stealth Momo".
** Kuro is typically referred to as the "Dragon Lord of Achiga", since she attracts Dora tiles.
** Hiroko Funakubo of Senriyama is typically called "[=FunaQ=]" by her older teammates.
** Saki typically calls her long-time friend Kyoutaro "Kyou-chan."
* In Manga/SakuraTrick Kotone calls Haruka "Harupoppo".
* Manga/SchoolLive:
** SenseiChan Megumi Sakura is referred to as "Megu-nee" by the girls. She dislikes it and wishes they would call her "Sakura-sensei".
** Yuuri is almost always referred to as "Rii". [[spoiler:Her little sister (or what she considers her sister)) is called "Ruu".]]
** Yuki refers to Miki as "Mii-kun". Miki doesn't enjoy it and frequently protests its use however as time goes on she seems to get used to it.
* Noriko Kamomebata of Manga/ScumsWish prefers to go by "Moka" (the cutest) as that's how she wants to be perceived as.
* Manga/SpyXFamily: After receiving a Stella Star, in imitation of Loid's own codename, Anya briefly starts referring to herself as "Starlight" Anya.
* Manga/SquidGirl: The titular character is often called "Squid-Girly" by Takeru.
* Literature/SwordArtOnline: During the climax of the Fairy Dance arc, Kirito dubs Sugou Nobuyuki/Oberon "the King of Thieves," since in spite of all his claims that he's AGodAmI the king, creator, and God of ALfheim Online, he actually just stole his power, the lives of 300 SAO survivors, the world someone else completed, and is overall just mooching off Akihiko Kayaba's work and invention.
* In Anime/TigerAndBunny, Kotetsu immediately takes to calling Barnaby "Bunny" after their first outing as a superhero duo. ["Because you hop about and have long ears (referring to the antennae on Barnaby's PoweredArmour) like a cute little rabbit!"] At first he just does it to annoy Barnaby, but it becomes an AffectionateNickname once he starts to acknowledge him as his partner. Only Kotetsu actually calls him Bunny, but the other characters do get in on the fun, such as when they buy him a stuffed bunny for his birthday, or when Saito imprints a little rabbit logo on his supersuit.
* Fay in Manga/TsubasaReservoirChronicle uses a lot of nicknames for Kurogane (Kuro-sama, Kuro-rin, Kuro-tan, Kuro-wanwan, Kuro-daddy and many more), much to the latter's annoyance.
* Every recurring character in Manga/WastefulDaysOfHighSchoolGirls has one, mostly given by Nozomu "Baka" Tanaka. These nicknames were listed next to their names on cast sheets. The sole exception is Lily Someya, probably because her name is name enough -- she is the token lesbian of the cast. Some examples include: Akane "ku" Kikuchi, Shiori "Robo" Saginomiya, Saku "Loli" Momoi, etc.
* In Anime/Witchblade, Masane has the nickname Masamune (big chest) in the original and Melenie ("Melony"?) in the dub. You get three guesses why.
* Manga/TheWorldGodOnlyKnows Keima, while very well-known among gamers as "The Capturing likeGamer/The God of Conquest," was also predictably nicknamed "Otaku otamegane" by his RealLife classmates. Crunchyroll's subs (and apparently the English dub) translated it to "dweeb" which, while lacking in creativity, is culturally accurate.
* Hak in Manga/YonaOfTheDawn is known as the Raijuu or Thunder Beast of the Kouka Kingdom due to his claim as one of the, if not the best, soldiers in the kingdom. He is also a bit of a nicknamer himself: He calls Kija "White Snake" and Jaeha "Droopy Eyes." He also refers to Yona as hime-san, which is usually just translated as "Princess" or "Your Highness," but the correct form would be hime-sama, making it almost a nickname of its own.
* In Manga/Yotsuba, Fuuka's friend Hiwatari is called "Shimauu" (adapted to "Miss Stake" in translation) due to saying "Yoroshiku onegai shimau" ("Nice to miss you") when introducing herself at school.
* Manga/YourLieInApril:
** Kaori "Kao-chan" Miyazono.
** Kousei's nickname, "Human Metronome", also can be counted, but its more like an infamous RedBaron nickname for him.
* Manga/YuGiOh: Pegasus gives several characters the nickname of "____-boy" based on their name (Yugi-boy, Kaiba-boy, Otogi-boy).
** And in the Japanese version of Anime/YuGiOhTheMoviePyramidOfLight, he shows that the nickname has a female variant when he calls Anzu (Téa) "Anzu-girl".
** All the "spirits" have different nicknames of referring to their host. Dark Bakura uses yadonushi (meaning "landlord") while Dark Marik uses shujinkaku-sama (literally meaning "Mister Main Personality"), both used in a mocking or sarcastic tone. This makes Yami's aibou ("partner") nickname stand out as he is the only one whose relationship with his host is genuine friendship with mutual respect.
* In Anime/YuGiOhCapsuleMonsters English dub, Tristan (Honda) nicknames his Thunder Kid (Kaminarikozou) "Little Dude."
* Anime/YuGiOhGX:
** Ryo Marufuji is most commonly called "Kaiser" by other characters.
** As a gag to his CatchPhrase "Manjoume-san da!", Jun Manjoume calls himself "Manjoume Thunder".
* Anime/YuGiOhZexal: Similar like Kaiser, you can count by hand the number of people who do not refer Ryoga Kamishiro by his nickname "Shark".
* Manga/YuiKamioLetsLoose: Everyone in the Academy thinks Yui in White is an angel and Kiito specifically asks if he can call her that, which she denies. Ironically, Yui in Black is known as The Devil.
* Anime/YuriOnIce:
** Yuuri Katsuki is given the nickname "Katsudon" or "Pig" by Yuri Plisetsky, and the slightly more affection version "Piglet" or "Little Piggy" by Viktor. Katsudon is a reference to Yuuri's favorite food, while the other three refer to Yuuri's tendency to gain weight easily.
** Yuri Plisetsky is nicknamed "the Russian Fairy" by fans in-universe due to his small size and skinny, delicate-looking adolescent frame. However, Yuuri Katsuki thinks of him as "the Russian Punk" for his spitfire demeanor. He's also known by in-universe fans for his love of cats, leading Viktor to call him "Kitten"; perhaps partially in retaliation (and partially due to his taste for tiger print), he likes to call himself "the Ice Tiger of Russia."
** Otabek Altin is nicknamed "The Hero of Kazakhstan" due to his breakout success skating for Kazakhstan, which has hardly any figure skating successes other than him (mirroring the situation of his real-life counterpart, the great Kazakh skater Denis Ten).
* In Manga/Yuyushiki, there's the SenseiChan Miss Yoriko "Mom" Matsumoto. It was Yuzuko who first called her that, and she didn't like it much, as she wasn't even 30.
