However, he realizes he can't bring himself to hold any of the exquisitively beautiful women he spots in the same regard he holds Valerie in.
16-->''Valerie was not the most beautiful of women nor the most erotic, and yet there was something about her that was beautiful in its own way, a wild beauty that was untamed by the laws of society. She was beautiful in the way that she didn't flaunt it, didn't even seem to realise it, so that when she smiled or her eyes sparkled, it was like a piece of the stars had glittered through her. She was arousing in the way that she was so innocent and ''untouched'' and pure, that she was all the more inviting in order to be plundered.''\
17''''His'' Valerie was more then what these silly creatures could ever hope to be because she was all of this, and she was ''his''. None of these women could hope to hold his attention, so long as Valerie belonged to him – which would be for the rest of eternity.''

22** Nat saves Valerie from being killed by Bai Tza and forces the water out of her system while all the while being clearly concerned for the woman she tried to kill a few hours earlier. After the showdown in Embarcadero Station is over, Nat cements her friendship with the Chans and Valerie.

He even tells her that she holds in her hands whatever hope he might have for redemption.

Touched by this, she strokes his statue head with her bleeding hand, inadvertently setting him free.

He agrees to this even though he still intends to let his parents conceive him, albeit only if Valerie consents to Shendu. What's more, the memories he has of the parents of his own timeline reveal that Valerie seemed happy to remember her union with Shendu, and the way Shendu spoke of her convinced Drago he would never force himself on her.
56** When Valerie finds herself in an EroticDream with Shendu without knowing [[SharedDream it's really him]], she has also come to believe that he'd never hurt her.
57* Valerie invites Shendu to sleep in the same mattress as her in the 18th chapter. After they wake up in the middle of the above-mentioned EroticDream, they end up in a heated argument about why she keeps denying she has feelings for him. When he asks if she truly finds him abhorrent when he kisses her, she honestly answers no and lets him kiss her to prove it.
58* When Drago tells Nat how he ended up with his abusive father after losing his mother, she holds his hand and offers him her sympathies. When he encounters Valerie shortly afterwards, she's proud he's making effort to work with the good guys, raising her hopes for his redemption.
59* While Shendu is paraded around at the gala by Hepburn and Stanton, all the guests admire "Mr. Stone" while Valerie is mostly treated like air. When they finally meet the mayor and his mistress Candy, the skeezer openly drools over "Mr. Stone" and even insults Valerie by implying she's unworthy of such a man. Shendu defends Valerie by complimenting her history graduation and telling the mayor that she has traits that make her more worthy than women like Candy.
