Context Heartwarming / PeakyBlinders

Go To

* In 1.01, Tommy paying for the damage Danny caused at the Garrison during his PTSD episode.
* Freddie showing up at the train station and proposing to Ada. It's [[ForegoneConclusion going to go]] [[FeudingFamilies badly]], but it's sweet.
* In 1.03, the look on Freddie's face when he sees Ada in her wedding dress. He tells her she looks like an angel.
* Finn falling asleep on Polly's lap.
* Polly attempting to get Freddie and Ada out of England multiple times, trying her damnedest to avoid the bloodshed that will occur if Tommy has to deal with the situation.
* Every time Harry gives Tommy a drink on the house (which is every time Tommy comes in to the Garrison for a drink), Tommy pays anyway.
* Tommy buying the Garrison and giving it to Arthur to run. It'll help with Arthur's PTSD and depression over being basically superfluous to the Peaky Blinders (now that Tommy's in charge), and Arthur's apparently always wanted to own a bar.
* Tommy's attack of conscience over whoring Grace out to Billy Kimber. The precise way he gets her out of sleeping with Kimber may be embarrassing for her (he lies and tells Kimber she's got the clap and that's why Kimber can't have sex with her), but the fact remains that he realized Grace shouldn't just be a pawn to him.
* How did Polly track down Freddie Thorne? She went to the graveyard on his mother's birthday, because he always leaves her flowers.
* How panicked Tommy gets when he realizes where the Lees have wired the grenade, and his frantic attempt to get Finn out of the car. Even though the wire gets tripped and the grenade goes off, Tommy scoops Finn up protectively.
* Tommy's way of comforting John after the debacle with Lizzie Stark and the opium:
--> '''John:''' You must think I'm some kind of idiot.
--> '''Tommy:''' I think that you're the first Shelby in history to have a legal license for anything. What would our granddad say? He'd be turning in his grave. (''Imitating grandfather'') Honest bloody money? Eh? In this house? In here?
--> '''John:''' (''laughing'') You always used to do voices when we were kids.
--> '''Tommy:''' Well we're not kids now, John.
--> '''John:''' But we still have to look out for each other, right?
--> '''Tommy:''' Yeah.
* John's wedding, after the arrangement part and before Ada picks a fight with Tommy. Peace is mostly achieved between the Lees and the Shelbys, and everyone's happy and drinking and dancing.
* Ada giving birth to a healthy baby boy with Esme and Polly's help, and Freddie holding his son for the first time.
* Tommy "not hearing the shovels" (a part of his PTSD) while lying in bed with Grace after sex. Sure, they seem kind of doomed, but it's still a sweet moment.
* Polly calming baby Karl for Ada, sharing some mothering tips. Takes a swerve into Tearjerker, though, when Polly tells Ada just what happened to her own kids.
* Ada showing off baby Karl (for Marx, of course) to her family and the rest of the Peaky Blinders, and Arthur racing over to hold the baby. He even puts his cap on the baby's head.
* Freddie deciding to join Tommy and the Peaky Blinders in the battle against Kimber, despite Tommy inadvertently getting him thrown in jail the night his son was born and trying to kill him.
* Grace telling Tommy she loves him and asking him to run away to New York with her.
* The three boys and Polly getting drunk in the Garrison together after the battle with Kimber's men. Polly says it was a good day and that there will be others, and Tommy breaks out the champagne he'd had Grace save, toasting "to the others".
* At the start of Season Two, the Shelby Company is making 150 pounds a day, expanding to London, employing over 200 people, and money is flowing enough for the Shelbys to own four Bugattis and numerous drivers for them. But the money isn't safe from rivals, so what does Tommy do? He buys his sister and nephew a house in London, and Polly a house in Birmingham.
** Made even more heartwarming for the reasons behind it: Ada was attacked and nearly raped because of her connection to him. Even though she's moved to a new flat, she's still living in Sabini's territory and therefore still in danger. The house Tommy buys for her is in a substantially nicer neighborhood and constantly 'watched' by members of the Peaky Blinders-- [[BigBrotherInstinct he's trying to keep her safe.]]
* Ada walking into her own house for the first time, and whispering "silence at last".
* Polly being so overwhelmed by the house, and Tommy sitting her down and telling her the real reason he's bought it.
-->'''Tommy''': I know you haven't been happy for a while, and I know why… I've spoken to our contacts in the police, and they have contacts in the council. Contacts with the people who keep the parish records. Records of adoptions, and of confidential forced removals. Now, with your permission, I'd like to grease a few palms and take a look at the records they never showed you. Pol, I'm going to find your son and daughter, and I'm going to bring them home. That's what this house is for--so that you can bring your family home where they belong. We're moving up, Pol.
* The Shelbys celebrating Michael's 18th birthday in the Garrison, and how ''proud'' Polly looks of him. Also, Tommy being a substitute father-figure and giving Michael a watch.
* Ada worrying over Tommy, reassuring him in episode six, when the shit is about to hit the fan, that she and the rest of the family love him.
* In a strange sort of way, Tommy's completely unfazed reaction to Ada 'outing' James, her gay lodger. Tommy simply introduces himself politely and shakes his hand, even bringing him in on a job as a relatively low-risk decoy when confronting Alfie. For a leader of a backstreet razor gang in 1920s Birmingham he's quite a progressive, open-minded guy and for all his many flaws, homophobia is not one of them.
* One of the pictures on Tommy's desk (as seen in 2.06) shows a woman surrounded by four young children, three boys and a girl--probably the older four Shelby children and their mother.
* Jeremiah presiding over Tommy's and Grace's wedding.
** The sheer enthusiasm and happiness of all the Shelbys during the wedding, despite the bad blood between them and the cavalry officers, as well as between them and Grace.
** Tommy reassuring Arthur that he loves him, even when he's embarrassing Tommy:
-->'''Tommy''': Fuck the speech, okay Arthur? You're my best man every fucking day.
** Arthur's speech, stumbling and awkward as it is, makes it clear how much Tommy means to him.
* Tommy spending a day with Grace and their son Charles, teaching the little boy how to feed horses and goldfish.
* It's implied that Madame Boswell told Tommy the sapphire was cursed so he could place the blame on something else, and finally sleep at night.
* The fact that Ada appears to have basically moved into Arrow House to help Tommy in the aftermath of Grace's death.
** Their conversation surrounding the job offer in Boston, and the fact that Tommy slips in a "love you" near the end, before walking off as if that's something he says on a regular basis.
* Arthur Sr's girlfriend writing to his sons to let them know their father has died, and telling them (truthfully or not) that he asked their forgiveness at the end.
** From the same conversation: [[DomesticAbuse even though the Shelby boys hated their father]], Tommy tells John that it's okay to name his next child after him if he wants--and John immediately refuses.
** This discussion of keeping family names alive also doubles down on the importance of Tommy naming his son "Charles". Charlie Strong has no children but Tommy keeps his name going - made more clear after Grace's death when Charles is more frequently referred to as "Charlie".
* Later, John finds Esme, who has been finding both pregnancy and the business difficult turning to cocaine to cope. Her honesty about how cooped up she feels, and his plans for the future -- which include buying the house she was once kicked out of, one that's big enough for all of their kids and has enough land that she won't feel so trapped -- after his seemingly cold observations in Season 2, is proof that arranged marriage or not, they love each other deeply.
* Arthur's quiet, uncomprehending joy when Linda tells him that she's pregnant -- it's clear that he's beyond thrilled about being a dad.
** Tommy's reaction to Arthur telling him and the rest of the guys is subdued, and the first thing that comes out of his mouth is "Goodbye Arthur." Tommy's taking his plans of having Arthur at his side and locking them away, because he understands that the things he asks Arthur to do aren't exactly conducive to having a newborn at home.
* 3.06 is really, ''really'' bleak, but a bright spot is Tommy finally acknowledging Lizzie's importance in his life.
** Polly admitting to Reuben that she ''wants'' a "normal life, a dull life" with him, and that she'd give up the business for him. His smile just about lights up the room.
* When Polly has an emotional breakdown over nearly getting hanged in the finale of Season Three, Ada arrives at the house and gently comforts Polly - exactly the same way Polly did for her back in Season One when she found out she was pregnant. Aww!
* Tommy going back for the photo of Grace, at Charlie's request, while they're fleeing the house on Christmas Eve.
* When Tommy hears a gunshot coming from Arthur's, he briefly drops his cool and ''runs'' to his brother's house.
* A minor example, but when Esme leaves Birmingham after John's deat], she takes her stepchildren with her alongside her own kids.
* Curly's belief in 4.02 that there's a bright spot in the darkness:
-->'''Curly''': We've got grenades and guns and Polly's back, so everything's going to be okay.
* Tommy allowing Finn a seat at the bosses' table for the first time, chiding Arthur for his "shut up Finn" CatchPhrase.
* Tommy is not amused when Aberama Gold tries to buy Charlie's yard and tells him they'll toss a coin for it - but if Aberama loses the bet, Tommy gets to fuck his daughter. Aberama declines.
** Everyone having a belated Christmas together and toasting in John's memory.
* The look on Tommy's face when he sees May again - things have gotten very grim for him, but seeing her is like a ray of sunlight.
* Polly reminiscing about the days of her youth at the campfire with Aberama Gold. And then seducing him - without any ulterior motive, just because she finds him attractive and feels free to do whatever she pleases. It's very human.
* Alfie feeling remorse and mortification at being unknowingly involved in Tommy's son's kidnapping.
* Aside from some signature teasing and sarcasm, the Shelby ladies (Polly, Ada, and Linda) congratulating Lizzie on her pregnancy and joining the family is a sweet gesture.
* Tommy allows Linda to be in on the fact that Arthur is still alive during the boxing match. Even though he doesn't like her and doesn't trust her, it would be [[EvenEvilHasStandards too cruel even for him]] to let Arthur's wife believe that he's dead.
* Tommy's maid, Frances, being so concerned about Tommy during his "vacation," during which time he suffers flashbacks and reveals how much of a ShellShockedVeteran he is, that she calls Polly. And Polly comes to his aid. Doubly heartwarming if you consider where Tommy and Polly stood at the start of the season.
* In the last episode of season 4, Lizzie holding her baby and smiling happily is so nice to see, considering she has [[ButtMonkey not had an easy]] [[TheWoobie time of it in the show leading up to that point.]]
** Also, Tommy holding his daughter for the very first time. He looks so happy, even if it seemed he was initially ambivalent.
* Tommy taking care of Alfie's dog even though he initially refused.
* During a particularly unpleasant argument with Lizzie in Season Five, she tells Tommy that Ruby is scared of him and that it's her birthday today and she, Charles and Ruby are going to have her party downstairs. And, despite sinking further into paranoia during the episode over what he perceives as Michael betraying him and various other people trying to take him down, he still does go to the party. He might not have the best marriage with Lizzie, but he really does love Ruby.
* Alfie and Tommy referring to each other as friends on a few occasions (they are the closest thing to friends people in their position can be). Tommy even opens up a bit to Alfie in the last episode.
* When a woman goes to Tommy because her drunk husband murdered her birds, Tommy offers to buy her new ones...and adds that they will have "a word" with her abusive husband. The woman claims she doesn't care that he beats her, but Arthur and Tommy [[WifeBasherBasher clearly beg to differ.]]
* Arthur and Tommy going into full BigBrotherInstinct mode when Finn is threatened by a Chinese gangster and his whore:
-->'''Arthur:''' Anything happens to my brother, Chang, you die.
* Aberama proposing to Polly at the ballet.
