4	''Happiness'' is a 1998 BlackComedy film written and directed by Creator/ToddSolondz, considered by many as his greatest and most controversial work.

6	The film follows the lives of three sisters trying to find Happiness in their lives.
7	* Trish Maplewood (Creator/CynthiaStevenson), the eldest sister, is a middle-class housewife who is married to psychiatrist Bill Maplewood (Creator/DylanBaker), who is secretly a pedophile.
8	* Helen Jordan (Creator/LaraFlynnBoyle), the middle sister, is a successful author who is loved and adored by everyone around her, but she is in constant despair over the fact that she feels that no one loves her for herself. She finds a bit of excitement when her neighbor Allen (Creator/PhilipSeymourHoffman) wants to violently have sex with her.
9	* Joy (Creator/JaneAdams), the youngest sister, is overly sensitive and feels that she lacks a purpose in life. She later decides to become a teacher for Russian immigrants, and she starts a relationship with her student Vlad (Creator/JaredHarris).

11	Due to its content, the film was threatened with an NC-17 rating and the film's original distributor October Films dropped the film. Both of these problems were resolved when the film was released unrated and the film's production company Good Machine released the film by themselves. Despite all of that, the film's script was nominated for a UsefulNotes/GoldenGlobe, and the film itself won the FIPRESCI prize at that year's Cannes Film Festival.

The Jordan's parents end up in a loveless marriage despite being together for 40 years and everyone is miserable.
