A crewmember referred to as Sixpack keeps a bottle of liquor found in the ship but it makes him sick the next day, and everything goes horribly wrong.

In fact, in the early goings, Doc takes the situation FAR more seriously than Beck does, though Beck soon catches up to Doc in the worried factor.
