18* Comments: Forfuturereference has a thoughtful and uniquely crafted writing style. The amount of description he puts into the tiniest detail really makes his stories come alive (it should not come as a surprise that he does his research). This is matched by the amount of effort he puts into filling in the blanks left by the Canon. This is combined with the thrilling plots of his stories. All in all, time reading his stories is time well spent.

23* Comments: Electrumqueen captures the desperate, somber atmosphere of the Hunger Games perfectly. Her writing is very poetic, very poignant, and very beautiful.
24** Seconded by Analiza. All her work is very good (though some is a little too shipping-focused for my taste). I'd like to add a specific recommendation for "The Panem Victors Breakfast Club." One of the best stories detailing the relationship between the Victors (and there are plenty of good ones out there), this story moves between darkly funny and just dark, with a surprisingly poignant (and incredibly sweet in its way) ending.

31* Recommended by Empress Sanaki
32* Comments: Zulera is an author that has written an ongoing extensive collection of character-centric Hunger Games stories that do a great job at developing characters (OC or otherwise) and realistically portraying mental issues that victors suffer from, such as PTSD or depression. All of their Hunger Games stories are connected and based off of a slight AU, and there's even a complete series of oneshots that summarize how each victor won their respective games.

36* Comments: The Pearl Awards is fanfiction and fanart competition where entries have to be nominated to get in, so most of the fics submitted are well-written and worthy of recs. In addition, there are different categories for fics e.g. Best One-Shot, Best Comedy, Best Author etc.

39* Recommended by Obiwanlivesforever
40* Comments: Gethsemane covers a wide range of characters and topics, bringing life and personality to some of the most minor tributes in the series. She has created a vast web of interlocking {{original character}}s and plots referenced throughout her stories, maintaining the authenticity of her fanon universe. In my opinion, "Sponsors," "Game Over," and "The Person He Never Was," are her finest work.

44* Comments: This author specializes in dark, character-focused [[DoorStopper Door Stoppers]], often AU. Most of her writing is focused on Haymitch, fleshing out his character in interesting and often surprising ways. "Nowhere to Stand and Now Nowhere to Hide" is my personal favorite.

48* Comments: lorata's particular area of interest is in exploring of District Two, setting up a background and a culture that seems highly plausible, especially relating to the Careers, Volunteers, Center and mentoring. "Fixed to a Star" (complete) is an exploration of a Career's character, while "Embrace the Fire: The Avenger Games" (complete) is a superb crossover between the Hunger Games and the Avengers that effortlessly blends the aspects of both 'verses.

61* Comments: Mintjellyfish has been inactive for over five years, and only one of their five stories, the least original and innovative of the bunch, was ever finished, but their incomplete world has fascinating looks into the districts, evolution of the games, and tributes from varying [=POV=]s. The FollowTheLeader story to ''Fanfic/TheVictorsProject'' is perhaps strongest in its description of the first ever games, a pre-THG Games which ended with more than one survivor and a furious president, the first non-Career victor, the birth and evolution of the Victor sex trade, and the first Games where a tribute WinsByDoingAbsolutelyNothing in a very literal sense. Perhaps even better is the also-unfinished ''A Deck of 24'', with a chapter about each tribute in a completed (but less novel) story that the author did complete, with the diary of one tribute's son in chapter 10 being one of the most interesting ''The Hunger Games'' fanfiction vignettes I'd read in a while when I first found it.

64* Comments: Seta Suzume (who has a [[Creator/SetaSuzume tropes page]]) is an author who has been inactive since 2014 but is the author of 109 fanfiction stories about a large number of franchises. Most of their uniformly engaging [=THG=] stories come in two equally interesting flavors: one-shots about the communities, tragedies, and triumphs of victors in different districts and the others about groups of victors from different districts sharing the same experiences (most notably the early Games from Mags’ [=POV=] and the 3rd Quarter Quell).

75* ''Status'': Complete
76* ''Characters/pairing(s)'': OC, mentions of Katniss and Peeta
77* ''Summary'': Starlight should be doing her homework, but she really has much more important things to do with her time.
78* ''Comments'': This fic is told from the POV of a teenage Capitol child watching the first games with Katniss and Peeta Games, and manages to be fantastically creepy and ridiculous at the same time, conveying the true CrapsackWorld nature of Panem very well under Starlight's superficial, saccharine monologue.
79* Trigger warning for brief mention of animal death

83* ''Status'': Complete
84* ''Summary'': A story from Beetee's point of view, starting with the day his name is drawn for the Games, going through his years as a mentor, the Quarter Quell, and the rebellion.
85* ''Comments'': This fic stays close to the style of the original trilogy with an interesting portrayal of its narrator, Beetee. It does an excellent job of making its characters and setting seem both true to canon and very original. The friendship between Beetee and Wiress and the portrayal of victors such as Seeder are particularly good.

90* ''Status'': Complete.
91* ''Summary'': Twenty-four short (ranging from a sentence to about a page) pieces of writing about each of the twenty-four victors in the 75th Hunger Games.
92* ''Comments'': This is a perfect snapshot of the lives, thoughts and histories of the victors we see in Catching Fire. Each piece reads like a poem; the narration style is understated, yet dark, lyrical, and intensely personal for each character. Be warned: some parts, particularly the ones devoted to Cashmere, Quoila, Heliquo and Johanna are quite disturbing and/or contain adult themes.

97* ''Summary'': So many tributes died in the Hunger Games, and although we never gave a second thought to most, they all have a story. One-shot about a certain tribute's last day in the arena that proves that things, and people, aren't always the way they seem.
98* ''Comments'': This was a really interesting and well written fan fic; I've never read any fics written from this character's point of view before. It's only a one-shot, but it's still very sastifying. While I was reading this I got out the book and read the scene as it's written from Katniss' point of view, and the two parallel and intertwine very nicely. You won't regret taking the time to read this.

104* ''Comments'': Caisha writes with masterful depth and maturity, transforming the minor villains Cashmere and Gloss into engaging, sympathetic protagonists. This FanFiction blurs the lines between typical views of 'good' and 'evil' in the Hunger Games world and has actually had me rooting for Careers over the other tributes at certain points! Packed with intense character development, a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the world of Panem, and a stunning cast of {{original character}}s, the Freedom Trilogy is a must-read for all Hunger Games fans.

110* ''Comments'': Truly one of the best {{FanFiction}}s I have ever read, The Flaw in the Plan takes a character with several sentences of screen time - the district 3 boy in Katniss' games - and turns him into an engaging, likeable, and sympathetic protagonist. It turned a faceless extra into a personal favorite character, something which takes true talent. I just cannot describe how unbelievably awesome this story is. Read it for yourself. 123* ''Summary'': If someone told me before the war I'd end up where I am now, I'd have said they were mad. I never expected to be more than just another District 8 factory worker. But then I became a rebel who became a president and everything changed **Paylor's story**
124* ''Comments'': This story has just begun, but it already contains the maturity, darkness and detail that have become staples of a Caisha epic. As usual, the protagonist - Commander Paylor - is a minor character whom the author has already breathed life and spirit into. The focus on District 8 introduces the reader to an oft-ignored district, a wealth of interesting [=OCs=], and a battle that went almost unnoticed in the face of Katniss' struggles. If anyone wants to read how the rebellion truly began, take a look at the life of an overlooked but crucial character, or just immerse themselves in the excitement, tragedy and hope of Panem's struggle for freedom, I'd definitely recommend checking this out.

145* ''Status'': Dormant
146* ''Rating'': T (for violence)
147* ''Summary'': "Everyone remembers the tale of Katniss Everdeen. But few recall the story of another sixteen-year-old from Twelve, thrust into the apathetic world of the Games. She wasn't bold or strong; she was hardly even remarkable. All that Vale Whitaker ever wanted was to give her inevitable death some kind of meaning, more than just another pointless brutality in the 44th Hunger Games." Vale is a [[ShrinkingViolet rather timid girl]] who is chosen as the female tribute from District Twelve thirty years before Katniss Everdeen’s Games. The story follows Vale, as well as her district partner, [[NonActionSnarker a small twelve-year-old boy named Kit]], as they are prepared for the Games and eventually go into the arena. There, she struggles, not only to survive, but also to [[{{Protectorate}} protect young Kit]] and [[ChildrenForcedToKill preserve her own humanity]]. As trial after trial arises to put her strength of body and heart to the test, Vale discovers that she is not as powerless as she believes—and learns that there is much meaning to be found in risking everything for the people she loves.
148* ''Comments'': Vale’s story is quite compelling; she is a very relatable protagonist, and the way she grows as the story progresses—from an uncertain, frightened girl who is caught up in a situation beyond her control, into [[BewareTheNiceOnes a heroine capable of bravery and strength when it comes to protecting her loved ones]]—is portrayed believably. The story is very emotional; it contains touches of drama, adventure, angst, humor, friendship, romance, tragedy, and more, with some surprising twists, and the author’s writing style is very descriptive. My favorite part would have to be the characters: other than [[TheHero Vale]] herself, we have [[DeadpanSnarker Kit]], her district partner, who is innocent, sardonic, and grim all at once; [[GenkiGirl Lavinia Gilden]], the pair’s escort and mentor, who comes to care a lot for the children and [[HiddenDepths is much deeper than her bubbly persona might indicate]]; [[FieryRedhead Fen]], an [[DefrostingIceQueen initially cold]] but [[BigSisterInstinct caring]] and courageous archer who is more reminiscent of Katniss than Vale is; [[PrivilegedRival Obsidian Citrine]] (“the boy with the ridiculous name”), a puckish, intuitive tribute from District One, who describes himself as “not the ideal Career” and proves himself to be a formidable contender in the Games—[[JerkWithAHeartOfGold as well as much more human than Vale would like to believe he could be]]; and many more vividly portrayed characters. The conclusion is shaping up to be rather depressing, but even so, this story is definitely worth a look. (It also has a trope page [[Fanfic/SomeSemblanceOfMeaning here]].)

He ties up loose ends from the movies and books, identifying the murdered old man of District 11 or the training film that Katniss was watching on the train. It shows Mags as a tribute, a mentor, and the BigGood of the Rebellion while covering her relationships with the other victors (just about every one of whom receives at leas brief prominence), and various machinations within the Capitol. It is generally a grim, serious work, but with a fair amount of {{Shipping}}, and some LighterAndSofter chapters [[Fanfic/CheckmateAnlashok It now has a page.]]

225* Synopsis: Explicitly described as Kiliflower's replication of the Victors Project, featuring their own head-cannon about Panem and its power plays, as well as the trials and triumphs of the victors inside and outside of the arena. The story (so far) gives a deeper, more philosophical angle to the lives of the victors. The story is interesting due to the author having written over 2/3rds of a similar story, then deleted it due to feeling it wasn't good enough (it was well-read and appreciate, but perhaps less deep) then starting over from scratch, with a largely new cast of victors.

235* Synopsis: To cheat death is to survive in almost impossible odds. Seventy-three tributes did it before Katniss and Peeta ever set foot in the arena. Whether they were brave, scared, vicious, insane or simply got lucky they all have a story to tell and all such tales, one per Victor, can be found within. Let it be shown how they made their mark on Panem in their own unique ways.
236* Comments: CB's take on a certain fanfic all about the Victors before Katniss and Peeta, with its own minor shout-outs to it. Also plays with loopholes in the series in addition to trying to fill in the gaps of canon. Note that this was written before Collins announced the prequel. The story has a decent amount of {{Satire}} and BlackComedy, although it's just as likely to emphasize the gruesomeness and tragedy of the Hunger Games. 240* ''Status'': Complete
241* ''Summary'': The story of Johanna Mason, from her first time as a tribute to the end of the second book, with lots of attention being paid to both her personal life in District 7 and her jobs as a mentor and Rebel.
242* ''Comments'': The story is good at capturing how Johanna means well but can be an abrasive hothead in a way that can alternate being delightfully snarky or just ugly. The supporting cast, other canon and original characters, are interesting and the PerspectiveFlip of the first two books is fun. However, if there is one thing that makes the story stand out from the average fanfic, it is how it avoids following the CommonKnowledge belief that Johanna refuses to let herself be prostituted and Snow kills her family as a result. While Johanna still loses most of her loved ones by the 3rd Quarter Quell, it is due to a gradual series of tragedies, giving the reader more time to see her in a loving family environment. The fanfic illustrates how differently (and often similarly) Peeta view the same conversations, while also shedding some light on his relationships with Haymitch and Portia.

261* ''Pairing(s)'': Katniss Everdeen/Peeta Mellark
262* ''Summary'': Katniss Everdeen-Mellark goes to the woods surrounding New Appalachia, a.k.a the former District Twelve, on the morning of the fiftieth anniversary of the final Reaping of the Hunger Games. There, she is literally waylaid by her own past, and wakes in the past, six weeks before Primrose was first Reaped. Alone, grieving, terrified, and without a clue on how she got there (and then), she realizes that it will be impossible for her- on every level- to simply live through events as they transpired in her personal future. With no way to return her to that future, she is nevertheless determined to get back to her own party - hopefully with a lot less damage and fewer crucial casualties along the way.
263* ''Comments'': Time-travel where an older and politically-savvy Katniss decides she isn’t going to just allow events to play the same way as history did. Changes include Katniss meeting President Snow before the games, taking an active part in the Games narrative, and turning the Caesar Flickerman interview into something else completely.

But when his godmother’s only daughter, Annie, is chosen as District 4’s tribute, Finnick has no choice but to try his best to bring her home. But although Finnick is a national hero in Panem, as a mentor he’s never got a tribute through the Games alive. As Annie and Finnick navigate demanding sponsors, ruthless Gamemakers and deadly tributes, how much will they both have to sacrifice to keep Annie alive? And will their growing feelings for each other put them in even more danger?
270* ''Comments'': This is an absolutely gorgeous fic! It perfectly captures Finnick and Annie's growing relationship against the backdrop of Annie's games. The characters have so much depth and the romance is absolutely swoon-worthy with ALL the angsty slow-burn feels.

But Finnick never thought that he would have to choose between bringing her home and keeping her safe, and he wants both. How Annie Cresta crept up on Finnick Odair.
277* ''Comments'': This fic is amazing--everyone's voices are so clear and so flawlessly characterized, from Finnick to Johanna to Snow and the writing is absolutely wonderful, whether if it's about the desperation and violence in Annie's Games or the relaxed, easygoing atmosphere of Finnick and Annie's families in District 4. The plot and atmosphere of this fic fits in perfectly with Collins' universe, especially on how the worst part about the Games isn't winning it, but living through the aftermath, and the ending just seems to expertly tie the entire story together. She was a hard girl, on first blush, but she was always soft and gentle with Peeta – ever since the cave. She likes the way his fingertips always smell of vanilla and sugar and he knows that, although she'd never admit it. A girl like Katniss – always covered in forest dirt and calluses – was not supposed to want a man who smelled of vanilla and sugar. But Katniss had chosen him over the man who smelled of leather and pine. And Peeta never took that for granted.

AU fic, based on the fairy tale "East of the Sun & West of the Moon." Peeta Mellark, winner of the 74th Hunger Games, returns from his Victory Tour to make the starving Everdeens an offer they can't refuse.
329* ''Synopsis'': In this story, Primrose Everdeen was not chosen as the District 12 female tribute, so, her sister did not volunteer to take her place. Peeta Mellark was, though, and he eventually became the Victor of the 74th Hunger Games. That winter, with the Everdeens struggling for lack of food, Peeta comes to them and makes an offer: if Katniss comes to live with him, none of them will want for anything ever. Katniss accepts, believing she will be just a servant, but as it becomes increasingly clear that Peeta only wants her to be happy, she has to confront not only the enigma Peeta Mellark has presented her with, but her own feelings for him.
330* ''Comments'': This story is great. Fantastic. It works very well, and it shows how much the author has worked in it. Not only did she devise a completely different 74th Hunger Games to fit in with the fairy tale the story is based on, but she also manages to draw in other fairy tales into the story without it looking forced. You can also make a DrinkingGame on how the many clues of Peeta's feelings for her fly over Katniss' head without her realizing the truth, but you will be dying by the end of chapter 10.

339* ''Comments'': A slash fic that focuses on Peeta's perspective if he was the focus of Panem, instead of Katniss, and his love of Cato. Things mostly follow the same story, except for the changes that happen because of Peeta being gay and falling in love with Cato instead of Katniss. 371* ''Comments'': I fell in love with this one-shot right from the start. It has great characterisation, development, and character-based twists throughout (despite the ending largely being a ForegoneConclusion). The story consists of snippets that occur within this shifting tale of the game, yet despite compressing the first book they manage to capture and characterise the players very well. It was heartbreaking, also, to see how this story emphasises Rue's youth, manifesting in her naivety, and it was touching to see something we'd all have loved to see: [[spoiler: Katniss and Peeta being in alliance with Foxface and Thresh]]. The last few lines, in particular, are simply heart-rending. For anyone who wanted a fic where Rue survives the 74th Games, you're looking in the right place.

Now all Katniss can do is watch and hope that the boy with the bread will keep his word and her sister makes it home. That is until the Capitol finds a way to mess everything up.
378* ''Comments'': A long and very-well written story. The style is good. Like in the original trilogy, it's told from Katniss' POV. However, her position as a spectator allows the reader to see the actions of all the other tributes. As a consequence, some characters like Prim, the Carriers (and even very minor ones like the Boys from Districts 3 and 10) are given more screentime and characterization. There is also some world-building, expanding what was told in the books. The author spends time to explain the everyday life in the 12th District, as well as the functioning of the Capitol and the world of the Hunger Games in general. The author has also written short side-stories that expand a little the main fic. ''Tribute'' briefly expands a little on the life of each of the 24 tributes of the 74th Hunger Games, revealing sometimes some HiddenDepths on their actions in the main fic. ''Seeing Red'' narrates the birth of the alliance [[spoiler:between Prim, Peeta, Rue and Foxface]]. ''Forgotten'' tells what happened to Gale after [[spoiler:Katniss is brought to the Capitol for the interviews]]. Good character development for him and it also greatly expands on the functioning of District 12, as well as giving justice and a big role to Madge. All in all, a very-well written "What if?" story.

With the population decimated, the odds of being a tribute go up, so Katniss and Gale decide to escape with what's left of their families. They are caught by Peeta, forcing them to take him along. They attempt to survive in the wilderness before becoming tangled up in the coming revolution.
387* ''Comments:'' This fic is good for both people who like survival and people who like romance. The first 2.5 arcs are about Kat and Crew escaping from D12 and surviving in the wilderness and is written by someone with a background in survival. It is more accurate than the actual Hunger Games. The Romance however is also really well thought out, covering what would happen in the senario of a small group of isolated people. The authors focused heavily on the importance of consent, through Peeta taking the lead. Katniss, Peeta and Gale all discuss their boundaries and what they want which was very refreshing. While there is explict sex scenes, they are skimmable for those who don't like that sort of thing with the romance still flowing. There is also a cute pre teen romance in Prim and Rory Hawthorne. The authors also are the plan and show your work type of writer. One of the writers lives in the area they set D12 and the cave where Kat and crew find and live in, so the environment is actually present in real life and the authors thought alot about the effects of the cataclysm on the out district areas (abandoned towns, overgrown highways, what things are left in the world). They also used randomization for less important plot points, and showed there work in the authors notes, which was fascinating.

425* Pairings: Possibly Richard and Lucrezia, in an odd way. Margaret Anjou and Harry Lancaster.
426* Summary: Nobody talks about the Fifth Annual Hunger Games. There are good reasons for this.
427* ''Comments:'' No canon Hunger Games characters -- this is a fusion of Hunger Games with 15th Century [[RealPersonFic Real People Fic]] ("real people" used loosely -- most of them are more like their Shakespearean counterparts or like their legends than strictly historical). [[MasterPoisoner Lucrezia Borgia]], the daughter of the Mayor of District 1, is called into the games. Other Reapings are also obviously rigged, to punish specific families in specific Districts -- such as when [[Theatre/RichardIII Richard York]] is chosen from District 2 and his older brother Edward is denied the opportunity to volunteer for him. But the personalities and talents of the children Reaped make for a rather... explosive Games.

432* ''Pairing'': Katniss[=/=]Peeta
433* ''Summary'': Katniss Everdeen has never been lucky. But a chance encounter with an old acquaintance and a winning lottery ticket just may change that.
434* ''Synopsis'': Katniss Everdeen is a waitress that works at a coffeeshop, and has never been very lucky in her life. However, one day, she meets Peeta Mellark (who had gone to the same high school as her and is now a successful restaurant owner) at her workplace, and when he cannot pay for his breakfast, he promises to give her part of the lottery prize that is going to happen that night. When his numbers are the winning ones, Katniss' life changes as she deals with her newfound fortune, the loss of her job and her stalker ex-boyfriend, while Peeta deals with his failing marriage with [[AlphaBitch Glimmer]]. When these problems begin to push them together, they realize that, perhaps, they don't have to face their problems alone.
435* ''Comments'': the story starts a bit on a downer, but soon things begin to pick up for Katniss as she finally sees that she does not have to be alone, and also for Peeta as his loveless marriage ends and Katniss and he grow closer. Has a lot of wonderful, heartwarming moments.

443* ''Summary'': AU: Peeta Mellark is Coriolanus Snow's deadliest assassin. But nothing can prepare him for the mark that may finally be his perfect match.
444* ''Synopsis'': it is a Oneshot. Peeta Mellark is an assassin working for Snow, who deals with his objectives (always female) by seducing them and bringing them to a hotel room where he can kill them - always as painlessly as possible. His next objective is a dark-skinned, dark-haired woman about whom he knows nothing, he feels so attracted to her that he has sex with her, discovering that she is actually his crush, Katniss Everdeen, and also an assassin (on Alma Coin's roller) who has been ordered to kill him. The two decide to cut their losses and run away to avoid the problems derived from defaulting on their orders.

451* ''Warnings'' (author's list): Forced prostitution and non-con (short but ugly), people dealing with sexual trauma, rape fantasies, self-hate, canon-typical violence, minor character death (of major canon characters), implied physical abuse of children (in the Mellark household), alcoholism and drug abuse, anorexia, and exercise addiction.
452* ''Pairings'': Finnick/Haymitch, and background Katniss/Peeta of about the same level it was in book one.
453* ''Summary'': When Haymitch Abernathy’s alcoholism makes the prime time news, Finnick Odair is sent to live in District Twelve to pick up the pieces. But it’s hard to save a friend if you can barely stand looking yourself in the eye. And it might become impossible once that friend decides to move hell and high water to bring two of his tributes home at once, even if it should cost him his own life.
454* ''Comments'': Don't let the pairing scare you off. This novel-length fic is a moving look at life in a Panem where there is no rebellion, Finnick never meets Annie, and everybody has to keep on living anyway. This is in my opinion the greatest Finnick character study ever written, full of finely detailed observations about him, Haymitch, and Panem itself. It's also well-written and very readable. Even the comments are often fascinating. Do pay close attention to the warnings, however.

459* ''Summary'': Starts off during the end of "Mockingjay" with Katniss beginning to realize that she's in love with Peeta. The problem is that he has not fallen back in love with her.
460* ''Comments'': The storyline might sound thin but it's an engaging story. A love interest for Peeta is introduced fairly early and the author has said it might not have an Everlark endgame but it doesn't seem to be scaring off the shippers. This might be one of the most discussion-inducing fics around at the moment with a comment section that reads more like a message board, which adds to the reading experience. It's an enjoyable but angsty read that asks a lot of What Ifs.

465* ''Pairings'': Katniss/Gale, Katniss/Peeta
466* ''Summary'': Katniss makes it past her last reaping and gets a job at the bakery. Gale wants them to start a relationship but Peeta begins to creep up on her.
467* ''Comments'': A good "slow burn" story that builds up the Everlark relationship over time and offers an interesting take on the "never reaped" scenario. It's well-written and well-paced and the only big problem with it is that the title seems to be referring to the next update, since the last chapter was posted more than a year ago. However that chapter ends on a good note so you're not left hanging.

Things would have been very different if Katniss and Gale were together: two kids from the Seam who know how to hunt. They play the Games and they play them well but regardless of how well they play, regardless of whether either of them survive, nothing will ever be the same for them or the country.

480* ''Summary'': When she's too late to step in for her sister at the District 12 reaping, Katniss will stop at nothing to enter the Hunger Games and fight beside Prim, even if it means asking Haymitch for help and sneaking into the reaping of District 3. She'll have to let out a few secrets, make a few allies, and defend her sister to the death – if Prim will even allow the sacrifice.
481* ''Comments'': An interesting take on what could have happened if Katniss had been too late to volunteer for Prim...and then found a way to follow her into the Games anyway. It features a more bitter and aggressive Katniss who puts her bond with Prim above all else, even as she struggles to manage her own plans in the face of Prim's pacifism. Foxface has a strong presence, as do Rue, Peeta, and Thresh, and the fight scenes will have you on the edge of your seat.

486* '''Summary:''' Set in an Alternate Universe where a different President than Snow is in power during the 60’s, and tries to use the Hunger Games and the tributes to really get out to the people and enact change, even as assassins lurk in the background. The story gives as much focus as possible to each of the 24 tributes, to keep it from being obvious who will win.
487* '''Comments:''' Overall, there’s not to much novel about the ‘’premise’’, just another example of a story following 24 kids, 23 of them doomed (as well as the aftermath of the games), but there’s a real strength to the characters that added to the stories popularity. The timeline changes aren't terribly substantial, in the end: the games continue, Snow takes power and the story's ending is faithful to the original timeline from the books. 528* ''Comments'': A long, epic crossover that incorporates both fandoms equally (a rarity among crossover fic in general). The characters are spot-on, the story is well-devised, and the writing is top-notch. A sequel was planned but not written, and the final chapter is an in-depth summary of how it would have gone. The ideas are fresh; it isn't just a rewrite of the last two books with ''Portal'' characters written in. Suffice it to say this fic will keep you captivated the whole way through.
