3These are recommendations made by Tropers for {{Fan Fic}}s, all of which have been signed. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in the 'fic, based on who recommended it. ''No-name recommendations and pre-patched [=ROMs=] will be '''Zapped by the Light of Judgement'''.'' Nobody would back up the rec. Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

5Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexual or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, {{Shipping}} is SeriousBusiness. Also remember if submitting a ROM Hack to link to an IPS or BPS file.

18* Recommended by Tropers/DarkAbomination
19* ''Status'': Complete
20* ''Synopsis:'' The world ends. The world begins. Relm makes her own way.
21* ''Comments:'' A short story taking place seven years after the game, from an older Relm's perspective. An evocative and appropriately colorfully described glimpse of the slowly rebuilding world as Relm copes with the loss of her painting talents and finds a place in it. The story assumes all optional party members joined, featuring scenes with each that give some minor bits of characterization. The returning main characters have changed and grown, giving some added depth while keeping everybody recognizably in-character. The only notable warnings are the use of minor swearing and featuring Relm with a lesbian sexuality. There are implied sexual encounters and relationships, but these are only briefly eluded to and aren't a major focus. An enjoyable story recommended for those wanting to see a more mature Relm's character and development.

26* ''Synopsis'': I haven't done a lot of searching for ''Final Fantasy VI'' novelizations, but that's only because I found a complete novelization in ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/321839/1/Final_Fantasy_VI_The_Novel Final Fantasy VI: The Novel]]''.
27* ''Comments'': It's a good read, and the author nails the characterization perfectly. If you'd like to experience the story of ''Final Fantasy VI'', but don't feel like actually playing the game, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better alternative than this.

31* ''Status'': Complete
32* ''Synopsis'': Just because you are dead doesn't mean you can't have a little fun. Kefka jumps off the Ghost Train and into a wager with Wrexsoul. Our intrepid ghost has a international incident to stave off, and precious little to do it with. But that's part of the fun, isn't it?
33* ''Comments'': Absolutely beautiful rendering of the ''[=FF6=]'' characters, right down to the last detail. Sympathy for Kefka is no mean feat.
34** Seconded. Seconded so hard. I picked this up thinking, 'Hey, a Kefka-centric fic, I bet it'll be [[CrackFic zany.]]' Oh, but lo-and-behold, I discovered the best FF fic I've read to date. And yes, it does make Kefka sympathetic without invoking VillainDecay. {{Tropers/Inferno232}}
35** Thirded. If it wasn't for the above comment, I would've probably brushed it off with a thought along the lines of: "Meh, if you've read one zany Kefka-centric fic you've read them all." Boy, howdy, had I missed out on a nice story.
36** Fourthed! I never would have thought someone could make a Kefka-centric fanfiction that made him sympathetic without serious changes to his back story and a whole lot of VillainDecay. The way that Kefka's outlook on life, err.... after-life evolves is well done and believable. The scene with [[spoiler: the Light of Judgment]] is such a perfect turning point for his character, and the little call-backs (''Crud. What a mess.'') are a nice choice. My only complaints are the use of ZINGER! [[note]]Yes, I know it's from the game. That doesn't make it sound any less narmy.[[/note]] and the woefully inappropriate use of Japanese words. [[note]]Saying 'Omae!' and 'Kusotare!' makes Relm sound like an anime nerd and Shadow saying 'Kawaii.' is so narmful I can't even begin to describe it.[[/note]]

41* ''Synopsis'': Before fighting Kefka, the cast decides to play cards.
42* ''Comments'': My description doesn't do this light piece justice. It's one of the few good ''FFVI'' comedies I've seen. There's a little Sabin/Terra if you squint and hop on one foot.

44''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4xWVYzpA98 SEGA Fantasy VI]]'' by RSF and sikamako, translated by Gabe Glick
45* Recommended by {{Tropers/QuoteMarx}}, Tropers/FishCalledWaldo
46* ''Synopsis'': A rather long flash animation, detailing what ''FFVI'' would be like if the entire cast were video game consoles. Cameos or appearances all through the four major generations -- third to sixth. PSP as the villain, of course. Extremely slight implications of Dreamcast/Saturn shipping.
47* ''Comments'': An amusing and affectionate parody of classic games. Including the entire ending sequence was a good move, and the characterization is done surprisingly well.
48** Tropers/FishCalledWaldo: There are two other ''SEGA Fantasy'' clips on the creators website -- all in Japanese, sadly. ''[[http://sf456.hp.infoseek.co.jp/sf4.html SEGA Fantasy IV]]'' and ''[[http://sf456.hp.infoseek.co.jp/sf5.html SEGA Fantasy V]]'', if you would like to try and watch them.

53* ''Synopsis'': Relm and Interceptor go on a coming of age journey across a post Kefka world. Winner of the 2006 IcyBrian All That Glitters competition. Complete.
54* ''Comments'': Oh my god. This is, without a doubt, among some of the BEST well-written fics I've ever read. I'm talking good grammar, paragraph structure, creative and evocative description of details and setting, character exploration, and all the sad, heart wrenching little moments depicting various, pure and unadultured, sadness tropes [[spoiler:(mostly AngstWhatAngst, [[HeroHarassesHelpers Heroine Harasses Helpers]], BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor, and [[SandInMyEyes sand in their eyes]], among others I haven't the time to look up and list)]] you could ever want to read about. It's just plain good. Literary good in fact. Very well put together story (with perhaps a little fancy free fantastication involved to be able to suspend your disbelief from time to time). Highly, highly recommended. As in, go read it. Now.
55** {{Tropers/Montblanc}}: WOW. You are doing yourself a great disservice if you don't read this fanfic RIGHT NOW. The characterization and interactions between characters are spot-on, Sally [=McDonald=] is an incredibly likable addition to the cast, and the last chapter is a great combination of [[spoiler: SoWhatDoWeDoNow, EndOfAnAge, and BrokenPedestal, with a delightful bit of NarmCharm at the end. (two words: Painting Ninja) It also managed to have the Clyde/Relm dynamic end tragically without an overwrought death or HeroicSacrifice. And the words 'Good boy' at the end ''crushed'' me.]] It's a shame the author never wrote another [=FF6=] story, because they realized the world so ''perfectly.''

65* ''Synopsis'': A family long thought lost is brought back together by a sheer chance of fate...and the ruin of the world. A story about Relm and Shadow and the situations that will define their relationship and will ultimately determine their fate.
66* ''Comments'': One of my favorite [=FF6=] fics, it shows the growing bond between Shadow and Relm, set to the background of the main plot. Full of heartwarming and heartbreaking moments, with great characterization of all the cast members. A brilliant fic altogether.

71* ''Synopsis'': AU. Sometimes, you just can't let go.
72* ''Comments'': This is one of the creepiest one-shots ever written, for all the right reasons. It asks the question: what if Rachel had ''not'' healed the Phoenix magicite, and had instead used its power to remain alive, and what would happen after Kefka's defeat when magic ceased to exist? Undeniably eerie and heartbreaking all at once.
73** Recommendation seconded. The horror aspect doesn't go overboard but the Locke and Rachel's situation is so twistedly tragic it still gives you the shivers. And despite it all you'd still feel for them.

78* ''Synopsis'': In the universe next door, Terra grows up in the Esper World. Everything goes wrong differently.
79* ''Comments'': A most excellently written [[AlternateUniverse AU]], showing how a small change can have a huge impact. By the same author who wrote the hilarious ''VideoGame/{{Shadowgate}}'' story ''Cheers'' (which can be seen on that game's [[FanficRecs/{{Shadowgate}} recommendation page]]).

83* Vanished from the internet. Please post a link if found.
84* ''Synopsis'': Kefka narrates the events of the game from his perspective, which is wildly delusional, insane with pain and power, and pretty lonely.
85* ''Comments'': This is a very tightly written story. Not one wasted word. You might read it in five minutes and then spend the rest of the day unraveling it. Character interpretation may vary from one's mileage, though.

96* ''Synopysis'': "Long ago the War of the Magi reduced the world to a scorched wasteland and magic simply ceased to exist. 1000 years have passed. Iron, gunpowder, and steam engines have been rediscovered and high technology reigns. But there are those who would enslave the world by reviving the dread destructive force known as magic. Can it be that those in power are on the verge of repeating a senseless and deadly mistake?"
97* ''Comments'': An 20-part fandub of the game that not only voices the dialogue but more importantly, extensively expands on the dialogue of the various characters, adding extra in-character dialogue to cutscenes, battles, and even to traversing the various areas of the world, making it almost have the vibe of movie or novel. Extremely well-done, and deserves a lot more attention.

105* ''Synopsis'': Details the events of Final Fantasy VI from Celes' point of view, and also focuses on her growing relationship with Locke.
106* ''Comments'': This story is definitely heavy on the angst, but the author pulls it off well and offers an interesting, though much darker interpretation of Celes. Her eventual relationship with Locke (the term "romance" isn't really appropriate given the story's tone) is incredibly believable and compelling.

119* ''Synopsis:'' How do you go on living, when half of who you are has been ripped away? Takes place AfterTheEnd, but isn't solely Terra-centric.
120* ''Comments:'' Amazingly written fic with lovely prose, this piece goes beyond a shipping fic by making mention of what other characters are doing and exploring how the rest of the world is adjusting to the loss of magic--particularly Terra. Many minor and major characters pop in at least once and I particularly love seventhe's Remy. Shadow/Terra almost seems inevitable, with the way she writes it. Highly recommended.

125* Pairing: Locke/Celes
126* ''Synopsis:'' A retelling of the events of Final Fantasy VI, from the point of view of Locke Cole and Celes Chere, starting from their meeting in South Figaro, as the two of them fight against both the Empire and their own demons.
127* ''Comments:'' Not quite a novelization. More of a reimagining. As much as I love Final Fantasy VI, its narrative can be a bit thin in places. *Darkness and Starlight* fills in the blanks and develops the world and its conflicts more deeply, viewed through the lens of Locke and Celes's relationship. The author loves this game very deeply, and it shows in every word she writes.
