->''For example, Loki didn't see the use in destroying the world. While Midgard wasn't anything to write home about, it was a nice enough place that contained hot chocolate, Lady Gaga, his stupid big brother, and acted as an enormous closet in which Loki could keep his stuff.''

An ''[[Film/TheAvengers2012 Avengers]]'' fanfiction series by [=Ao3=] user katsu, in which Loki has grown tired of always being the bad guy.

Of course, this by no means requires him to be the ''good'' guy either, and that's exactly as he likes it- playing other villains and the Avengers against one another in order to keep himself amused and maintaining at least ''the appearance of'' CainAndAbel when really he'd just prefer to stay home with his shiny appliances and the occasional ChaoticNeutral plan of his own. ForScience, of course. The problem is, he's not very good at knowing where to ''stop'' with the meddling, and karma eventually comes to bite him in the butt. Big time. The writing style and general tone of the story (as well as the FootnoteFever it contains) owes a great deal to ''Literature/GoodOmens'', enough so to count as something of a supervillains-and-superheroes themed SpiritualSuccessor.

The series has two main parts, [[http://archiveofourown.org/works/269808 Bunny Slippers]] and ''[[http://archiveofourown.org/chapters/425428 The Calculator]],'' and two more serious and SlashFic-flavored spinoffs of uncertain canonicity to the other stories.

!!This series contains examples of the following tropes:

* AIIsACrapshoot: Make an AI with the help of a WildCard Norse god with a long history of failed villainy behind him and the AI just might decide to take on that god's persona... and ''succeed''.
* AmbiguouslyGay: Who knows what Loki's into? But his interests once he decided to stop trying to take over Midgard definitely have a rather metrosexual leaning, nonetheless:
-->''Between finding a constructive way to express his anger and making some lovely friends that he still had tea with every Wednesday afternoon while they chatted manicures, fashion, and lap dogs, he felt much more comfortable in his own skin these days. All it had really taken was escaping the poisonously macho atmosphere of Asgard, which according to Kevin was something like living in Omaha and not being interested in football.''
* BadassDecay: Loki undergoes this more or less by choice[[spoiler:, leading the Lokibot to try to fill in the gap...]]
%%* BeingEvilSucks: Another reason to move on from the tiresome game of supervillainy.
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler:Loki, after the nascent Lokibot steals his magic.]]
* TheComicallySerious: Thor, whose noble gravitas tends to get in the way of his understanding jokes or sarcasm. And when he ''does'' make a joke, he acts sternly honored that it was recognized as one rather than seeming pleased with himself.
* CompanionCube: Loki's waffle iron. Became something of an AscendedMeme in the MCU fandom for a while.
* DeadpanSnarker: Oh, where to ''begin''. Loki, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff, Tony Stark... basically everyone except Thor and Steve Rogers (and the latter still has his moments).
^^* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler:Loki.]] Twice.
* DramaticWind: Both Thor and Loki prefer capes for this reason. It's noted that, as gods, they are inherently safe from things like accidents with revolving doors.
* EvilLaugh: Loki is mentioned to have one. It's one of the few things Daniel Sorres doesn't miss about him later on.
* EvilTwin: The Lokibot, in a manner of speaking. The ''actual'' Loki isn't exactly what you'd call ''good'', either, but he's no longer interested in going full villain like in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse proper, so it counts.
* HumanityIsInfectious: See the opening page quote.
* IntercontinuityCrossover: Implied when Clint responds to Thor's offer to carry him while flying with "Do I look like [[PrecisionFStrike fucking]] [[{{ComicBook/Superman}} Lois Lane]] to you?" and Thor [[ComicallyMissingThePoint retorts that he's seen pictures of Lois and finds her to be a lovely woman whom Clint is far uglier than]].
%%* InsufferableGenius: Loki.
%%* {{Metaphorgotten}}
* NoodleIncident: For some reason, being surrounded by a pool of his own blood makes Loki's mind drift back to the last time he was in Starbucks.
** He also apparently did something to enrage Queen Elizabeth II herself pretty badly.
%%* NotMeThisTime
%%* LemonyNarrator
%%* LouisCypher: "Laurence Laufson".
* NonSequiturThud: After Thor pulls an arrow from Loki's shoulder:
-->''The result was also Loki cracking one eye open and giving Thor an unfocused, almost drunken sneer. "I," he said, carefully enunciating each word, "asked for cream with my shot." Then his eyes rolled back in his head and he went limp again.'' [[note]]"Loki? Brother? I don't understand. Will cream heal you?"[[/note]]
* SharpDressedMan: Loki. Goes along with the TallDarkAndSnarky territory.
* StraightGay: Daniel Sorres. He's a pretty typical overweight computer hacker character, and the only reference we get to his being attracted to anyone at all is Loki (to the point of possible SingleTargetSexuality).
* ThereAreNoTherapists: Averted; it's a big part of why Loki's doing so much better (in a matter of speaking, anyway) than in the MCU.
-->''[Y]es, he had filled several little leather-bound diaries with childish scrawls of red ink that read things like, "Die Thor" and "You never really accepted me!" And then he'd attended a few sessions of primal scream therapy and taken a modern dance course at the local community college.''
