A MassiveMultiplayerCrossover story by [=GAvillain=] centered around the Franchise/KingdomHearts series. After the events of ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts3DDreamDropDistance'', Maleficent is looking to reestablish herself as a major power in the multiverse. Deciding to recreate her LegionOfDoom from the first game, she recruits Hades, Ursula, [[VideoGame/MarvelUltimateAlliance Loki, Doctor Doom,]] [[Series/TrueBlood Russell Edgington,]] and [[Series/{{Gotham}} Fish Mooney]] in a search for the ancient Book of Prophecies to rewrite reality in their favor.

Working in the shadows to avoid interference from Organization XIII, the group quickly expands to include villains from multiple different franchises, most notably [[WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}} Jafar]], [[Series/OnceUponATime Captain Hook/Killian Jones]], and [[WesternAnimation/{{SnowWhiteAndTheSevenDwarfs}} Queen Grimhilde]], who all receive main billing. As they build towards their goal of ultimate conquest of reality, they find themselves facing opposition not only from their respective heroic adversaries, but from rival villainous factions as well.

There are 3 completed installments as of May 2022:
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/15267864/chapters/35416329 Quite a Glittering Assemblage]]'', focusing on the formation of the Overtakers and their quest for the Book of Prophecies
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/17235797/chapters/40532171 Villains of a Sort]]'', focusing on the Overtakers as they [[spoiler: recover from their defeat and imprisonment at the end of the original fic]].
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/22248874/chapters/53127742 All the Forces of Evil]]'', in which the Overtakers begin branching out to pursue personal vendettas while securing their power base after [[spoiler: conquering Mount Olympus]].

The trilogy also spawned two ongoing spinoff fanfics set after the events of the main trilogy:
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/39014097/chapters/97588527 The Odious Overtakers: Every Villain Assembled Narrates]]'', a series of one shot standalone adventures focusing on each member of the Overtakers getting ADayInTheLimelight.
** ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/46232791/chapters/116393503 Now Go With A Curse]]'', an adventure focused around the inner circle of the Overtakers concurrent with the events of ''Every Villain Assembled Narrates''.
* ''[[https://archiveofourown.org/works/42023760/chapters/105508425 Reverse the Moon and Sun]]'', an ongoing story in which [[WesternAnimation/CinderellaIIIATwistInTime Lady Tremaine]], [[ComicBook/CaptainMarvelKellyThompson Ove]], and [[VideoGame/MarvelUltimateAlliance Baron Mordo]] use the Book of Cagliostro to form a TimeTravel-focused offshoot of the Overtakers at Maleficent's direction.

----
!! ''Quite a Glittering Assemblage'' and its sequels provide examples of the following tropes:

* ALighterShadeOfBlack: The series manages to keep the Overtakers sympathetic largely by positioning them against enemies who are even worse than they are.
* AbortedArc: The end of the ''Quite a Glittering Assemblage'' set up a major plot point of Neal Cassidy coming back to live as the Dark One. ''Villains of a Sort'' then furthered this arc, by having what seems to be Neal teleporting away Emma & Regina…and then never expanded on again. The only other time it is referenced is in Chapter 9 of ''All The Forces of Evil'', where it's revealed he was cured of the curse in Scala ad Caelum after fighting off the original Dark One.
* AchillesInHisTent: Loki decides that he's done with the Overtakers in ''Villains of a Sort'' Chapter 37 and tries to strike out on his own after Maleficent chastises him for [[spoiler: manipulating Grimhilde for his Judgement of Paris gambit and stranding Amora in hell]]. He returns only four chapters later after they save him following [[spoiler: the failure of his attempt to brainwash Thor and Balder into helping him seize the throne of Asgard]].
* AdaptationExpansion: The fics greatly expand on the backstories of the Disney villains - particularly Hades, Maleficent, Jafar, and the Evil Queen.
* AdvancingWallOfDoom: [[spoiler: The Master recreating the Age of Chaos in Chapter 67 of ''All the Forces of Evil'' triggers one that spreads across the entire universe]].
* AlternateSelf:
** [[spoiler: Zexion's Absent Silhouette from ''Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix'' is brought to life as a separate existence from Ienzo, who had already come back during the events of ''Dream Drop Distance'']].
** [[spoiler: The [[Film/OneHundredAndOneDalmatians1996 1996 version]] of Cruella serves as one for her [[Series/OnceUponATime Once Upon A Time incarnation]].]]
** [[spoiler: A version of Regina from before her HeelFaceTurn is introduced in ''The Odious Overtakers'' when Hook and Maleficent visit an alternate timeline]].
* AndNowYouMustMarryMe: The Sorcerer's Society attempt to force Maleficent into a marriage with Ayam Aghoul during ''All the Forces of Evil'' so that they can use the rules of the Overtakers' charter and Maleficent's position as the Overtakers' leader to seize control of all the Overtakers' assets.
* AndThatLittleGirlWasMe: When discussing the existence of Kalabar's son, Maleficent describes to Loki and Doom how rare Half-Unseelie are, saying that there has only ever been one other within her lifetime. When asked by Doom who that other one was:
-->'''Maleficent:''' "Why, it was ''me'', of course."
* AndTheAdventureContinues: [[spoiler: ''All the Forces of Evil'' ends with the Overtakers having given up their conquered territories to the heroes as part of the terms of their alliance against The Master, and the Organization is still at large, having forced an alliance with the Unseelie. But the Overtakers will continue their efforts to dominate the universe as a team]].
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Discussed by Penguin and Riddler when they arrive at Moonscar Island in ''All the Forces of Evil'' chapter 27.
-->'''Penguin:''' "There's something eerie in the air here."
-->'''Riddler:''' "Logically speaking, it's just cold and you're paranoid because of the stories."
-->'''Penguin:''' "''Logically speaking'', we're on a team with [[SuddenlyShouting WITCHES and DEMONS!]] I think I'll trust my intuition on this."
* BackFromTheDead: Russell and Fish are resurrected following their deaths in their own original shows as part of their recruitment into the Overtakers.
* TheBadGuyWins: ''Villains of a Sort'' ends with [[spoiler: the Overtakers using the Armageddon Key to destroy the [[WesternAnimation/{{Hercules}} Greek gods]] and conquer Olympus. Sora and Riku vanish, and Zeus uses the last of his strength to teleport Hercules to safety before he perishes]].
* TheBartender: Claude the Cauldron-Born serves as a cook and bartender for the Overtakers during ''Villains of A Sort'', ''All the Forces of Evil'', and ''The Odious Overtakers''.
* BetaCouple: Several of the minor Overtakers end up hooking up during the course of the series:
** Kieran and Sid.
** Demyx and Hans.
** Penguin and Riddler.
** Pete and Mary Sanderson.
** Davy Jones and Winnie Sanderson.
** Dark Riku and Vanitas.
** Caleb Covington and Imperious.
* BetterTheDevilYouKnow: Despite previously refusing Hades' request for aid, [[spoiler: the Master destroying their Tapestry of Fate]] prompts the Fates to throw their lot in with the Overtakers, believing that a universe under Maleficent's rule would be preferable to [[spoiler: the Great Old Ones destroying the universe]].
* BigBadWannabe: Mozenrath and the Sorcerer's Society. Though they have several arcs where they're featured prominently, they never are quite in the same league as the Overtakers or the other villain factions.
** Mandarin is this in ''All the Forces of Evil''. He's clearly in over his head with the Great Old Ones, and [[spoiler: his attempt to usurp them ends with his death almost immediately.]]
* BlackComedy: Owing to the fact that the protagonists are all villains, the series is full of this.
* BrilliantButLazy: Demyx is far more observant when it comes to the internal politics and hidden agendas of the Overtakers and Organization XIII than anyone realizes, but is consistently averse to doing any actual work.
* BrownNote: The Armageddon Key, [[spoiler: an extra verse of [[WesternAnimation/TangledTheSeries Rapunzel's moondrop incantation]] that can [[KillTheGod kill gods]] and even ''destroy the tapestry the Fates use to predict the future''.]]
* BumblingHenchmanDuo: Prince Hans and Demyx become this while serving together aboard the Jolly Roger.
* TheBusCameBack:
** In Chapter 56 of ''All The Forces of Evil'', [[spoiler: Sora and Riku return after disappearing into the realm of Darkness during the climax of ''Villains of a Sort.'']]
* CardCarryingVillain: Nearly every member of the Overtakes.
* CasinoEpisode: Hook and Jafar go on a date to [[Film/TheLastJedi Canto Bight]] in ''Villains of a Sort''
* CastFullOfGay: A significant majority of the Overtakers' membership are not straight. This is discussed and lampshaded in Chapter 13 of the first story.
-->'''Russell:''' "So basically no one here is straight."\
'''Fish:''' "Cheers to Maleficent for putting together the gayest team to ever try to rule the universe."
* ChastityCouple: Maleficent states upfront when she and Hades get together that she has no desire for sex in their relationship, and gives her blessing for him to have sex with other people if he wants some, so long as she remains the only one he has romantic feelings for.
* TheComicallySerious: Members of the Overtakers who are not [[LargeHam Large Hams]] have a tendency to be this.
* CompositeCharacter: Many spirits, demons, and other similar characters from various franchises are re-imagined as [[Characters/CthulhuMythos Great Old Ones]].
** Lord Ombra from ''Literature/PeterAndTheStarcatchers'' is both a Great Old One as well as the Phantom Heartless boss battle from the first ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI Kingdom Hearts]]'' game
* CriminalFoundFamily: The Overtakers as a whole, despite the bickering between the different factions within the larger organization, see each other as family.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: After spending most of his appearances being his typical lazy self, Demyx in Chapter 35 of ''All the Forces of Evil'' manages to hold his own against ''Xemnas.''
* ADayInTheLimelight: ''The Odious Overtakers'' gives each member of the organization their own focus chapter.
* DeaderThanDead: A handful of characters are killed off permanently in ways that not even a god can resurrect them from, such as [[spoiler: Talbot]] in ''Quite A Gliterring Assemblage'', or [[spoiler: the original Cruella in ''All The Force of Evil'']].
* DeathIsCheap: Lampshaded, seeing as multiple Overtakers have come back from the dead at one point or another, both before the story begins as well as during it.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Combined with ShutUpHannibal when [[WesternAnimation/TheRescuersDownUnder McLeach]], an ordinary human with no magic whatsoever, interrupts Xemnas' EvilGloating by shooting him in the stomach ''with a shotgun''.
** Happens to Xemnas again in Chapter 30 of ''All the Forces of Evil.'' This time at the hands of the [[WesternAnimation/SpiderManTheAnimatedSeries Kingpin]].
* DisciplinesOfMagic: Ursula explains in ''All the Forces of Evil'' that there are as many different types of magic as there are worlds, but that all varieties of magic have four fundamental elements in common: fire, cold, storm, and spirit.
* TheDogBitesBack: [[Film/HocusPocus Mary Sanderson]] stands up to Winifred in ''The Odious Overtakers''.
* DoubleDate: Doom and Loki go on one with Hook and Jafar to the [[Film/RevengeOfTheSith Galaxy Opera House]] in Chapter 51 of ''All the Forces of Evil''.
* DraggedOffToHell: Since the Overtakers control two afterlife realms through Hades and Blackheart, a few of the Overtakers' opponents are dispatched this way.
* DramaticIrony: [[spoiler: In ''All the Forces of Evil'' chapter 49, Mickey tells the Avengers he wonders if the Overtakers even care about each other at all, and the next scene immediately cuts to the Overtakers mourning Cruella's death]].
* EnemyMine: [[spoiler: The Overtakers and the heroes forge one after the Master destroys the universe to recreate the Age of Chaos in ''All the Forces of Evil.'']]
* EntertaininglyWrong: Thanks to [[spoiler:the Riku Replica deciding to call himself Riku]], Mickey, Donald, and Goofy think that he's the original Riku being controlled by the Overtakers.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Contrary to what Mickey says in ''All the Forces of Evil'', the Overtakers do have people that they love and care about.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Being a multi-racial and multi-species group with a large percentage of non-heterosexual members, the Overtakers have no tolerance for homophobia or racism (both realistic ''and'' [[FantasticRacism fantastic]]).
* EvilIsOneBigHappyFamily: Despite the bickering and power plays, most of the Overtakers genuinely care about each other as family.
* EvilPowerVacuum: At the end of ''Quite A Glittering Assemblage'' [[spoiler: the downfall of the Organization and the initial defeat of the Overtakers results in a power vacuum in the forces of darkness]].
* EvilVsEvil: Between Xehanort, the Cult of Cronus, and the Sorcerers' Society, Maleficent's Overtakers are shown spending more time fighting other villains than they are fighting any heroes.
* EvilVersusOblivion: The conflict against the [[EldritchAbomination Great Old Ones]] in ''All the Forces of Evil'' hinges on this.
* EvilWearsBlack: Lampshaded in Ardyn's chapter of ''The Odious Overtakers'', when he advises the Corinthian to change his outfit to something black because his tan suits clash with the group's aesthetic.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: In Chapter 68 of ''All the Forces of Evil'', [[spoiler: the lower-ranked Overtakers share [[OneLastSmoke a final drink]] in the Eminence Place and discuss [[ItHasBeenAnHonor what an honor it's been to fight alongside each other]] before the AdvancingWallOfDoom from the Master's recreation of the Age of Chaos hits The Overtaken Kingdom]].
* FalseFlagOperation: Ursula and Fish poison the Halloween candy being distributed by Scrooge [=McDuck=] in Radiant Garden so that they and Steve can use access to the antidote as a means of improving the Overtaker's reputation among the public and indoctrinating scared, vulnerable people into their new ScamReligion.
* FamilyOfChoice: Many groups within the ranks of the Overtakers, particularly the original core leadership, come to see their fellow villains as their true family, a fact which is [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] on multiple occasions.
* FriendsWithBenefits: [[Characters/GhostRiderEnemies Blackheart]] and [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV Ardyn]].
* FusionFic: The series incorporates aspects of the different franchises featured into Kingdom Hearts lore. For example:
** The power of the Book of Prophecies in Kingdom Hearts stems from it being written by The Author from Once Upon A Time.
*** The power of the Author's pen stems from using the blood of [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXV Ardyn Izunia]] for ink.
** Grimdhile's backstory is tied to the ''Night on Bald Mountain'' short from [[WesternAnimation/{{Fantasia}} Fantasia]]
** The [[Franchise/PowerRangers Tribunal of Magic]] is an aspect of [[Characters/MarvelComicsCosmicEntities The Living Tribunal]]
* GenreSavvy: A trait shared by many of the Overtakers.
* GirlsNightOutEpisode: Chapter 45 of ''All the Forces of Evil'' features Grimhilde, Cruella, Fish, Ursula, Amora, and Trakeena hunting magical artifacts as a girl's night out that lasts for the next few chapters.
* HenchmenRace: [[WesternAnimation/TheBlackCauldron The Cauldron-Born]], which were originally created from corpses in the world and later from murdered innocents. However the Overtakers cannot always rely on them, such as for instance Maleficent only being able to create one Cauldron-Born when she's in Storybrooke, which is a town located in the [[NoSell Land Without Magic]], which is a World notably hard to reach.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: The adventures of Sora and the other Guardians of light are out of focus for most of the series, to the point where Sora [[spoiler: liberates Twilight Town from the rule of the Sorcerer's Society]] entirely "off-screen".
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: The Overtakers' actions occasionally backfire on them and undo their current schemes.
* HopelessWithTech: Many Overtakers from more medieval worlds lack any understanding of technology from more modern onces. Something which gets [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] in the prologue of ''The Odious Overtakers''.
-->'''Russell (to Doctor Doom):''' "That's what you get for bein' the only technologically literate member of our Inner Circle. You left witches, pirates, and vampires alone with a computer and without clear instructions."
* InSpiteOfANail: ''All the Forces of Evil'' notes that the conclusion of {{WebAnimation/RWBY}} Volume 8 was largely the same despite the events leading up to it diverging as a result of Watts joining the Overtakers and murdering Pietro.
* InteractiveNarrator: Happens for a brief moment in Chapter 33 of ''Quite a Glittering Assemblage'' with the first appearance of the Muses as a call-back to the opening of {{WesternAnimation/Hercules}}.
* InterruptedIntimacy: Chapter 38 of ''Villains of A Sort'' opens with Doom interrupting Winnie and Davy Jones when the pair are about to have sex in order to conscript them for a mission to [[spoiler: retrieve Amora from Hell]].
* JudgementOfParis: Invoked by Loki in ''Villains of A Sort'' where he manipulates Amora, Sarah, and Grimhilde into competing to seduce [[Franchise/DragonAge Empress Celene]] in exchange for an apple carved with the words "for the fairest." Sarah is the only one who understands the reference because it was her favorite bedtime story as a child.
-->'''Sarah:''' "A contest of beauty that incited a horrific and bloody war? T'is the stuff of dreams!"
* KidFromTheFuture: ''All the Forces of Evil'' introduces [[spoiler: Ove, Amora's son with Namor, travelling back in time from a BadFuture]].
* KilledOffForReal: More heroes permanently die than villains, but the series still has a body count.
** The first fic kills off [[spoiler: Master Xehanort and Yen Sid]].
** The second fic kills off [[spoiler: Leon, Cronus, the ''Once Upon a Time'' version of Peter Pan, Xaldin, and the Greek Gods]].
** The third fic kills off [[spoiler: Cruella de Vil]].
* LargeHam: Most, if not all, of the Overtakers are this, as are villains in several other factions. Lampshaded in ''Villains of A Sort'' Chapter 29:
-->'''Ardyn:''' "Is he always this dramatic?"\
'''Amora:''' "Everyone in this faction is. It's part of our charm."
* LegionOfDoom: In addition to the Overtakers and Organization XIII, other villain team ups emerge, including the Cult of Cronus, the Sorcerer's Society, and the Great Old Ones.
* LetsGetDangerous: Demyx in ''All the Forces of Evil'' after he calls out Xemnas' obliviousness toward the motivations and actions of his own underlings.
-->'''Demyx:''' [[WhamLine "Now then, ''let's dance''."]]
* LikableVillain: Most, if not all of the Overtakes.
* LotusEaterMachine: [[spoiler: Loki traps Marluxia in one during chapter 39 of ''Quite A Glittering Assemblage''.]]
* LoveRuinsTheRealm: At various points in the original fic and its sequels, conflicts between the various couples in the Overtaker ranks cause setbacks for the group's larger goals.
** Hades decides to bar the rest of the Overtakers from the Underworld after Maleficent rejects him. [[spoiler: This later leads to the Underworld mansion that had been the Overtakers' original base being destroyed and Morgan Le Fey escaping]].
** Lampshaded by Fish in ''Villains of A Sort'' Chapter 38, when Russell [[spoiler: slaughters the guards of Radiant Garden's maximum security prison, lets all the inmates out to cause as much destruction and death as they can, and gloats about the Overtakers' goal of taking over Radiant Garden on live television]] after he and Steve get into an argument.
--->'''Fish:''' "Unbelievable. Your relationship drama just started a war."
* MassiveMultiplayerCrossover: In addition to villains that have already appeared ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'', the roster of the Overtakers includes characters from ''Series/OnceUponATime'', ''Series/TrueBlood'', ''VideoGame/MarvelUltimateAlliance'', ''Series/{{Gotham}}'', ''Film/HocusPocus'', ''Franchise/PowerRangers'', and more. And that's not even including the franchises present among the ranks of rival villain groups or the worlds that the Overtakers visit.
* MythologyGag: The fic and its sequels are littered with references to the source material that each of the Overtakers originate from, as well as those of the worlds they visit.
* NoodleIncident:
** When bartering with [[Manga/DeathNote Ryuk]] for [[spoiler: the Compass of Lost Souls]] in ''All the Forces of Evil'', Grimhilde mentions that Ryuk attempted to resurrect [[Characters/DeathNoteLightYagami his human friend]] after the ending of Death Note.
** At some point in ''All the Forces of Evil'', Hook, Jafar, and Frollo ended up tripping on seaweed that Grimhilde had acquired from [[Franchise/CthulhuMythos the Lost City of R'lyeh]]. Hook considered it an unpleasant experience, and Frollo was apparently out of commission for a week after a single puff.
** During one of the Interludes in ''Every Villain Assembled Narrates'', Fish mentions an incident where the Inner Circle went out to eat at [[WesternAnimation/TheEmperorsNewGroove Mudka's Meat Hut]]. Fish and Hades indicate that it wasn't a pleasant experience for most of the group, while Russell implies that he killed Kronk and drank his blood, but no other details are spoken of.
* NonHumanHumanoidHybrid: Maleficent is the hybrid offspring of a dragon and [[TheFairFolk an Unseelie Fae]].
* NotUsingTheZWord: Characters never use the term TheMultiverse, but instead use universe or cosmos. Even though each "world" is its own contained dimension, especially with the likes of the Marvel Ulimate Alliance World which contains the Nine Realms and multiple galaxies.
* OffTheRails: Because of the Overtakers' efforts, the stories of various franchises featured go in drastically different directions from their respective canons.
** Season 6 of ''True Blood'' falls apart because the Tru Blood factory is destroyed, not only preventing a plague that would decimate vampires but also forcing vampires to feed on humans to sustain themselves.
** Season 4 of ''Once Upon a Time'' goes off the rails with [[spoiler:Rumplestiltskin being stripped of his powers and Storybrooke being largely destroyed by the Queens of Darkness]]
* OnceASeason: Every story features at least one TitleDrop by the ending of the story.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted. [[spoiler: The Riku Replica simply decides to call himself Riku when he joins the Overtakers in ''All the Forces of Evil'']].
* ParentalSubstitute: Fish Mooney sets herself up as a mother figure to various young villains she mentors including Demyx, Oswald Cobblepot, and [[Series/ScreamTheTVSeries Kieran Wilcox]].
* RapePillageAndBurn:
** In ''Villains of A Sort'', [[spoiler: Russell unleashes the captured Undertakers on the people of Radiant Garden to cause as much chaos and carnage as they can]].
** The latter two are what the lower-ranked Overtakers do to [[spoiler: the countryside of ancient Greece in ''All the Forces of Evil'' after securing Olympus]].
* TheRemnant: Organization XIII is reduced to this after [[spoiler: Master Xehanort's death near the end of the first story]].
* ReplacementGoldfish: [[spoiler: After the death of the Once Upon A Time version of Cruella in ''All The Forces of Evil'', Grimhilde's grief drives her to recruit [[Film/OneHundredAndOneDalmatians1996 the 1996 live action version of her]] out of the belief that the other Cruella is the reincarnation of the one she lost]].
* RunningGag: A few of them pop up throughout the original fic and it's sequels
** Maleficent rushing ahead of her companions by turning herself into a will-o'-the-wisp. Someone always questions whether she's aware that others can't do the same.
** If some unlucky civilian meets with an unfortunate fate, odds are pretty good that he's a former stripper named Joel, a nod to [[Creator/NicholasDAgosto Nicholas D'Agosto's]] character in ''Dirty Girl.''
* ScamReligion: Ursula and Fish set one up in Radiant Garden in order to convince people that Maleficent and the Overtakers are NotEvilJustMisunderstood and get the general public to willingly submit to Overtaker rule.
* SealedEvilInACan: Many of the Great Old Ones in ''All the Forces of Evil''.
* SecretSecretKeeper: Demyx reveals in ''All the Forces of Evil'' that [[spoiler:he figured out ''every'' Organization member's hidden agenda years ago]].
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: [[spoiler: Audrey tries to go back in time and prevent her own StartOfDarkness from ever happening in ''All the Forces of Evil'']].
* SexForServices: [[Series/TheSandman2022 Desire]] offers the Overtakers an amulet to let them avoid detection from Dream while accessing [[DreamLand The Dreaming]] in exchange for a night of sex with Hades.
* ShiftingSituationDuel: [[spoiler: The final battle against the Master in ''All the Forces of Evil'' sees the Overtakers and the Master crashing through multiple fragments of other worlds.]]
* ShutUpHannibal: Demyx gives one to Xemnas in ''All the Forces of Evil'' Chapter 34:
-->'''Demyx:''' "You never ''did'' realize what you had. You were always so caught up in your bigger picture that you never took the time to understand your underlings. For instance, the fact that Marluxia and Larxene were able to stage a coup under your nose, or how Xigbar was planning to sell everyone upstream to finally get a Keyblade, or maybe how your own 'loyal' lieutenant was collaborating with Axel behind your back until Axel went soft on him. No, you never noticed any of that. But ''I'' did. Because that's what ''you'' never noticed about ''me''. You had flowers trying to grow the tallest, fires trying to burn the brightest, and thunder trying to clap the loudest. But you never considered that at the end of the day, ''water'' was taking whatever form was necessary to keep flowing and enduring.
* SinisterMinister: Steve becomes one in Radiant Garden during the later chapters of the first story as part of an effort to reshape public opinion of the Overtakers, and continues in the role throughout most of ''Villains of a Sort''.
* SongFic: Not the fics as a whole, but multiple chapters feature various Overtakers breaking out in a VillainSong. Typically the songs will be ones from one of the franchises represented among the Overtakers' ranks, with lyrics sometimes tweaked to fit a change in context.
* SplitPersonalityMerge: Cruella's chapter of ''The Odious Overtakers'' ends with [[spoiler: the original Cruella from ''Once Upon A Time'' merging with the alternate Cruella in order for both to be whole]].
* TheStinger: The final chapter of ''All the Forces of Evil'' has an epilogue scene in which [[spoiler: Xemnas negotiates an alliance with Nicnevan with the Cronus Stone]].
* SuperMobBoss: Fish works toward setting herself up a criminal empire that operates across multiple worlds, with herself at the head.
* TakeThat: The Loki-centric chapter of ''The Odious Overtakers'', starts with Loki happily taking the souls of a group of fans calling themselves the Coven of Loki, who believe him to be a misunderstood, tragic character and a victim of abuse from Odin & Thor. The mischievous God proudly declares that he is neither a victim nor a trauma survivor, but someone who chose to become evil and seek power for his own greed.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Happens fairly often with different combinations of Overtakers' clashing personalities.
* TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt: [[spoiler:In ''All the Forces of Evil'' when the Master destroys the known universe to recreate the Age of Chaos.]]
* TitleDrop: Happens at least once per fic.
** Xehanort delivers one in ''Quite A Glittering Assemblage'' Chapter 37.
** Hades uses the title for ''Villains of a Sort'' as the last words of the second fic's final chapter.
** Maleficent does it in ''All the Forces of Evil'' Chapter 61 when she grants the other Overtakers their ten rings of power.
* TomeOfEldritchLore: The Darkhold and the Book of Cagliostro
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler: Maleficent offers every single member of the Overtakers the opportunity to leave after the defeat of The Master and gives her blessing for anyone who doesn't want to be involved in the campaign to retake their lost empire to leave without consequence. Every one of them stays]].
* UnholyMatrimony: Many of the villain couples.
** Hades and Maleficent.
** Jafar (''Kingdom Hearts'' version) and Captain Hook (''Once Upon a Time'' version).
** Loki and Doctor Doom.
** Russell Edgington and Steve Newlin.
** Ursula and Fish.
** The Evil Queen (''Kingdom Hearts'' version) and Cruella De Vil (''Once Upon a Time'' version).
* VillainProtagonist: The Overtakers.
* VillainousRescue: Early in ''Quite a Glittering Assemblage'', Doom and Russell attempted to use barrels of gunpowder to kill Sora, Donald and Goofy in the streets of Olympus, but Ultron and Baron Mordo appear to take revenge on Doom just in time to thwart the plan.
* VillainSong: Several appear over the course of both the original fic and its sequels. [[Series/JulieAndThePhantoms Caleb Covington]] in particular is a sucker for a good one.
* TheVillainSucksSong: The Muses sing one in Chapter 33 of ''Quite a Glittering Assemblage'' about Hades and his relationship with Persephone.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Steve, Ursula, and Fish manage to rework the Overtakers' reputation among the citizens of Radiant Garden from villains to saviors, and the effort continues in ''Villains of A Sort''. [[spoiler: It falls apart when Russell impulsively lets all the inmates out of Radiant Garden's prison to RapePillageAndBurn and brags about it on live TV]].
* VillainsActHeroesReact: Since this is a series centered around the villains, most of the heroes' actions are in response to the plans and conquests of the Overtakers.
* VillainsOutShopping: The series contains several scenes of assorted villains engaged in various mundane activities in the midst of all their scheming.
* WeAreStrugglingTogether: While the group as a whole works to limit infighting, conflict among the different members and subfactions of the Overtakers happens often.
